Sel’n sat silently by Ba’sun as the bluerider spoke, his free hand idly trialing though the sand at his side. A soft indecipherable grunt emerged from his lips. “Not sure I’ll ever have that particular feeling then. I might have had kids at Fort. But likely not. In all honesty I can’t be sure if I’ve ever sired any children. Didn’t care to find out I guess.” He had almost sired one here. With Dorava, although it was a complete accident and upon finding out he had tried to sever all ties with it. Then while he was off being an experiment to Fort she had lost the babe. Maybe it was fear that made him not want to go that route ever again or maybe it was something else. But all that aside he couldn’t imagine what it would feel like to burry a child. So he would have to take Ba’sun’s word on this one. In the end children are part of you are they not? In a way created by you certainly. It was interesting to ponder but the older rider tried not to think at length about it. It was a topic that he never lingered on after all.
As the silence dragged onward Sel’n busied himself with tossing a few more scrolls into the fire. It dimly occurred to him that maybe he should have mentioned something in the way of Ba’sun’s loss. However in the end he didn’t know the man well enough to comment and be truthful about it. So the brownrider stayed silent. The feel of fingertips ghosting over the back of his neck brought Sel’n’s attention back to the Benden rider. The hairs on the back of his neck rose in response to the feather light touch as his eyes examined the other curiously. A lightly amused smile danced across his features. “True enough. No need to intentionally give ourselves away I guess. Not like we won’t be found out eventually anyway. Should enjoy the time we have left.” His words trialed off into silence and Sel’n made no move to avoid the touch of the man beside him. In all honesty he didn’t mind it. It was almost comforting in a way.
He caught the raising of Ba’sun’s eyebrows but didn’t comment. Instead Sel’n merely gave a soft grunt at the words spoken. In all honesty? No he wasn’t used to it. Normally he was the one pursuing and so this was all a bit out of his realm. Not that he really minded it but as a rule the brownrider erred on the side of caution. He lived as a pessimist. Had for awhile and although improvements had been made old habits died very hard. Still what Ba’sun said was true. In the end he did have little to gain that way. The offer came as a bit of a surprise and for a moment Sel’n simply stared at the rider beside him before smiling lightly. “Better make it worth the trip. Kaaoloth isn’t a morning person.” Reaching forward he playfully tapped the bluerider in the back of the head and grabbing the wine bottle rose to his feet.
A quick check to see which bottle it was before he lightly tossed it into the fire. Was crap anyway. Turning back to grin at Ba’sun he commented. “Bring the good stuff, we can toast everything else upon take off.” After commenting Sel’n picked the riding straps up off the sand, wondering if they where even necessary. Grumbling the brown was before the thought even finished. You drag me here to play guard dog against felines and now I get to be transportation for drunks as well? You don’t even know this one. You’re not a teenager anymore. You are supposed to think before you act now. Rolling his eyes Sel’n lightly smacked the leather straps against his leg . Save it for someone who will listen you overgrown mother hen. Besides if you are going to complain you should learn to mean what you say. I can see through it you know. Snorting the brown raised his head from the sand and then rose awkwardly to all three feet, shaking the sand from his form before hopping awkwardly towards the fire and the two men.
As Sel’n fixed the leather straps to his dragon Kaaoloth regarded Ba’sun with placidly whirling eyes. Kind of scrawny isn’t he? Chuckling softly the brownrider turned back to his companion. “After you.” Patting the neck beside him in silent gesture Sel’n stepped back and the brown awkwardly crouched, flaring wide one wing for balance. Hurry. Was the single word he offered Ba’sun, the tone no nonsense. This wasn’t easy for one with only one front leg.

Elysia ended up focusing on her hands in her lap as Dmitri spoke. Quiet his words where and seemingly almost laced with a particular sadness, and it made her feel….terrible. Like she was some kind of monster. Tch. Well this was new. This particular feeling the greenrider couldn’t say she had had before. It was almost like she felt sick to her stomach and hollow but not? Dark eyes lifted to his face but the harper wasn’t looking at her. It was almost like he couldn’t and that hurt. What hurt more was realizing that what he was feeling had been wrought by her, and here she had been professing to love him. Did you do that to people you loved? No. You shouldn’t. Right? Her nails bit into her palms. “I’m coming to understand why you left yes.” Soft the words where and they held a almost reluctant quality. Why did this all have to be so hard? The last thing Elysia wanted was to feel like she did currently but there was no easy fix to it all. Damn it all if she didn’t want to be like him. Prove him right.
You are not R’sia. You did not hurt him intentionally and with malice. Was all Onyth said in response to the thoughts, her tone soft and final. The green’s eyes opened fully when it became apparent that the harper was looking at her instead of at hers. The dark dragon yawned and uttered a soft croon, more in an attempt to soothe her bonded than the harper of course. Peaceful shades now made up the majority of her gaze although there where the pale shades of sorrow mixed in as overspill from her bonded as well. Didn’t I though? Was Elysia’s retort as Dmitri made his way closer to perch on the arm of the chair she was sitting on. Dark eyes automatically went to the harpers face, noting it was still turned away as her hands raised to pick at the makeshift bandage around his arm. Onyth in turn said nothing her gaze merely staying on the pair of humans.
As she unwound the dressing the greenrider allowed at least one of the tears she had been holding back to fall. There was no witness anyway. “I wish I had an easy answer. I wish I could tell you what I was thinking. But to be honest, I don’t know myself. It started off in play. I never intended for it to go so far and once it got to a certain point it’s like I lost control.” Deftly and carefully Elysia’s fingers examined the wound, noting that the gash would probably need a few stitches at least. Which would be easy enough to do herself if Dmitri didn’t wish to go to the infirmary. She had a field medical kit and that much, at least, was easy to fix. “It’s not like I felt lacking. I have been happy, and this is the first time I’ve lapsed since we had that discussion. I knew him from Benden. You don’t have to believe me.”
Reaching forward Elysia pulled the leather bag from the chair next to her and pulled out some redwort and more bandaging. Quietly and swiftly she cleaned the wound and kept the pressure on. Her mind worked quietly for a moment before she gathered the strength to speak. “I don’t deserve you Dmitri. You don’t deserve to hurt. I don’t want to hurt you. Maybe in the end I’m just to broken to fix.” Trialing off she swallowed the lump in her throat and swiftly changed the subject, increasing the pressure on his wound to stop her fingers from trembling.
“Should probably have stitches. I have numbweed and thread here if you want me to do it. Otherwise there is always the infirmary.” Her eyes flicked back momentarily up to his face. “I can’t blame you for anything and no matter what I say I can’t take back what was done. All the same. At least I know 'why' now.”

Kaaoloth had known for weeks that Rinagth had been close to rising. He had taken her moody personality with the patience of a saint, allowing her the right to snap at or cuddle him as she desired. Each day had brought him closer to this moment and the large brown was perched on his ledge watching her sleep and taking in the brilliant glow of one close to rising. A soft growl rumbled through his chest as his tail lashed over the ledge. He was impatient. Very impatient, and it showed in the tensing of claws the constant pacing and the uplifting of his lip at every other passing dragon. Soon. Very soon.
Against the doorway to the ledge opening Sel’n leaned, watching the brown with exasperation. “Faranth you are making me nervous. Will you settle down already. She’ll go up when she’s damn good and ready and I better not hear you complaining when you lose.” A violent snort answered the older rider. Apparently Kaaoloth wasn’t in the mood to talk. Grinning the brownrider ran a hand though his hair. “Love you to.” Pushing back off the wall Sel’n started on the way to the flight rooms. The brown wouldn’t be this keyed up if it wasn’t close to happening. The hairs on the back of his neck started to prick up as he entered the stone hallway with a final mental warning to his dragon. Don’t you dare cause any trouble either. Again there was merely a brush of cold annoyance. Been too long since Kaaoloth had caught and he wasn’t in the mood for games apparently. Joy.
When Rinagth’s head rose Kaaoloth’s wings snapped open. Every muscle tensed in anticipation and then she was slipping off the ledge and he flung himself off after her. A silent shadow he was. Mirroring her on her way to the feeding pens. The brown allowed a moment of quiet appreciation as she brought down her first buck before he to dropped into the thick of the herd. With quiet precision he grabbed his target by the throat, sucking at it’s life blood without bothering to kill it first. He liked the feeling of it struggling ineffectually between his jaws. Eventually it stilled and the large brown allowed the buck to drop lifelessly from his jaws. Kaaoloth’s tongue flashed out to capture the remnants of blood as he crooned affectionately to the green only a few length’s away. Her hiss caused his eyes to whirl faster and as the echo of her cry died away he raised his voice in a mirror challenge to her own. His Rinagth.
Sel'n in turn had made it to the flight rooms by this point. He chuckled as he entered and examined J'on from his position leaning in the doorway. "Good afternoon J'on. I see you're wasting no time."

Dark eyes watched as Dmitri bandaged the wound her fingers curling into her palms to prevent herself from simply taking over and doing the job herself. It wasn’t like he was doing the best job of it but Elysia supposed it was good enough. Almost absently her gaze left the harper to again travel the room, finally resting on Onyth who was lazily watching the pair through half lidded eyes. A silent warning was given to the green before the harper’s voice brought her back around to face him. Promised? Promised what? Mild confusion flashed across the greenrider’s face for a moment as she backtracked to try and piece together what he was speaking about. A few things came to mind but before she could open her mouth to comment he was continuing and so she fell silent.
Dmitri’s next words cleared the whole matter up for her and Elysia almost flinched, the look on her face apologetic and slightly irritated at the same time. Damn Dementia. The gold hadn’t liked her one bit and the feeling had always been mutual despite the fact that Elysia had tried to appeal to the little menace at every turn. She’d certainly never been nasty to the little thing, despite the nasty names and nips she received from the mandyr in kind. For a moment the woman remained silent.
“I could probably come up with a million excuses at this point. But I’m not going to insult you by voicing them. Nor can I deny that I was with that rider that afternoon.” Quiet the words where and the greenrider again let her hand travel through her messed hair halting at the tangles in it. “I should have told you immediately but it never seemed like the right time. Besides it seems to me that if Dementia was there she told you long before I had any chance to voice anything. So likely by then you had already made up your mind to leave. Even had I voiced anything would you really have listened?”
Dropping her hand from her hair Elysia’s eyes again went to Dmitri’s. “I still wish you would have told me, or given me a chance to explain before you just up and disappeared. It hurt to come back and find you completely gone. I waited up that night for you to come back and say something but you didn’t. I figured I wasn’t worth an explanation.” Despite her best attempts to prevent them the tears built up but the woman blinked them back with a snort. “Unfortunately I can’t blame you for your actions.” Swallowing she sighed and sank down onto the nearby chair. “I never meant to hurt you. It was a lapse and I regret it but regret does not change that it happened.” Dropping her hands into her lap Elysia looked up at the harper. Now what? To be honest she hadn’t the slightest clue. It wasn’t like she could just erase this all and take it back.
Eyes defaulting to the bandage on his arm Elysia bit her bottom lip. “Will you at least let me take a look at that?” If nothing else she wanted to at least repair something. “It meant nothing you know. That afternoon. Not that that changes anything but I want you to at least know that.”

Sel’n gave a return smile to Ba’sun. “Of course your turn. Who else would I be speaking to?” The smile should have been a major clue to the next move the bluerider made. However the older rider had been out of the game for quite awhile. Turns in fact and so rusty might be an accurate term to describe him. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say the next action surprised him. The sudden grip on the back of his neck had Sel’n almost immediately tensing, however the resistance quite quickly left him as his lips where claimed. A soft growl sounded in his chest as the brownrider returned the gesture in kind, his own hand coming up to tangle in Ba’sun’s hair, forcefully holding the other's head still momentarily so he could return the favor. As quickly as it happened however it seemed to end and as the other pulled back Sel’n dropped his own arm to the log behind the bluerider’s head. There the rider left it.
His blue eyes smoldered with something beyond amusement now, but Sel’n swallowed it down despite his desire to continue. Something in the back of his mind held back on continuing, although he wasn’t sure at the precise moment just what it was. Certainly not his slumbering dragon who had twitched momentarily but stilled immediately afterwards. Certainly not the wine. Thoughts on the subject where pushed away as the brownrider strove to capture his muddled thoughts and place them in some semblance of order. It took a moment or two for the brownrider to even remember that he should be listening to the story. Damn Bendenite. Biting the inside of his cheek with the idea that pain would clear his head he managed an amused smile. “Snowball fights always bring about the best memories..” There was an almost wistfulness tacked onto the end of Ba’sun’s tone however and Sel’n couldn’t help but wonder about it.
The son must be the reason. As a prisoner of Selenitas the older rider could guess that family visits weren’t something the bluerider got. Even then this boy might not even still be alive. That certainly explained the sudden almost subdued feeling that had seemed to crop up. “Never had kids so I can’t pretend to know what if feels like to be without them. But I’ve lost good friends before. Never had much in the way of family.” Licking his bottom lip to wet it he leaned over and grabbed the bottle from Ba’sun.
Tipping it up to take a sip he set it back down and chuckled. “Could offer to distract you from such thoughts but I rather think maybe distraction isn’t the best idea with only a slumbering dragon to keep watch. Maybe we should just blow something up instead. That always makes me feel better.” Despite the kiss and the thought that the man beside him was a bit of a loose cannon Sel’n wasn’t willing to let the night turn completely chaotic yet. To much fun to be had still.
“Not that your kiss wasn’t simply spectacular in nature. But I rather think half of it is your desire to play with an old man’s reactions.” A soft chuckle left his lips, the sound almost meditative. “Not that I blame you. I’m fun to play with apparently.” For a lot of people actually but Sel’n wasn’t willing to get into that. A toy was what he often became and really in ways he was getting tired of it. Rubbing the back of his neck he gazed into the fire for a moment. “Question is what the hell could we blow up.”

It was hard to tear his eyes from the movement, something he blamed on the wine and lack of bedroom partners. Flights where his only trysts lately. Sad in a way he supposed. However if he felt lacking in anyway, he was quick to subdue and defend such weakness. Blue eyes flicked back to Ba’sun’s face, the expression in them unreadable. Yes his companion was not undesirable but the older man was not quite fool or desperate enough to let himself be played with. Clearing his throat and pushing aside thoughts of roaming fingers he stretched his leg out trusting the painful pull of muscles around his knee to bring his thoughts back to other things. He was succeeding to until the bluerider seated below him made his comment. Had he been drinking anything he likely would have choked. As it was he gave a half laugh.
As the noise faded Sel’n simply fixed Ba’sun with a patient look. “Real cute.” A smile took any bite out of the words. “Think you’re all clever with your innuendo.” Shaking his head he almost jumped when the other rider’s hand met his knee. Making a small grumbling noise in his throat he took the bottle from the other, purposely lightly brushing fingertips over the other mans. Just to be a brat of course. Bringing the bottle to his lips he took a sip and then clucked his tongue against the top of his mouth. “Join you eh? We’ll have to hope my knee doesn’t keep me trapped there or someone really will be carrying me home.” Nevertheless Sel’n slipped off the log to seat himself next to the Bendenite. Sighing he leaned back against the log. Alright so this was just a tad more comfortable than his previous position. He grunted in acknowledgement. “Alright guess the sand and drink can do your job for you.”
Close enough to touch if he but leaned a little to the right, the older rider reached over to pull his bag of scrolls closer. That done he took a swig of the liquor and handed the bottle back to his companion. “There really isn’t much to tell. Your back in the days stories might be better for fireside tales.” Chuckling Sel’n tossed a few scrolls in the fire in quick succession. “Used to lead my own wing back in the day. Good one to. Although we mainly did a dragon rider’s duty and burned up thread. The occasional battle could never be avoided of course. Those weren’t too bad times. As a weyrling I used to love snowball fights. Can’t say the south is good for those though.” He diplomatically left out just when that was. Ba’sun was from Benden and Kaaoloth had been one of the eggs stolen from Benden. One of the pair born from the stolen clutch that started the whole blasted war. You could say fate had been against the pair since they first bonded.
“Good memories are those I tend to attach more to people than circumstances. I ended up rescuing an old wingmate from dragonless slavery a few turns back. He’s here now. Bonded to a wher. That isn’t a bad memory I suppose.” He trailed off. “Silly but I feel almost like a teenager swapping stories on a first date.” Chuckling Sel’n leaned over and nuzzled the side of Ba’sun’s neck, purely to see what reaction he would get from his amusing company.
“Your turn. Please by all means bore me with a tale from back in the day.” After speaking the brownrider straightened back up and turned a scroll over in his hands, amusement clearly present behind his normally stoic gaze. Fireside mutt indeed. He was actually happy this once decided to slink over to his fire. Even if he was Benden. Good companionship seemed all to hard to find these days.

Sel’n stayed silent for the moment simply smiling at the fire as he tossed the past in to let it become consumed. Kaaoloth had retreated to no more than a drowsy presence in the back of his mind and this caused the older rider to feel a tad more connected with his companion in a way. His brown was not the most trusting anymore. But something about Ba’sun must have passed the dragon’s unspoken scrutiny. Curious it was, and so when the bluerider finally spoke Sel’n found himself giving the other man his undivided attention. Yes it was true, it wasn’t just F’lix. The brownrider himself had met with a good few that seemed to run in different versions of normal. F’lix was only one of them.
Titling his head Sel’n examined the long scar, his fingers twitching in a subconscious desire to run his fingers along it. A desire that, had he had just a little more wine, he might have acted on. As if was he had enough control to prevent embarrassing himself. For now anyway. But all the same the desire to touch the scar was there. Taking his eyes off the old wound he fixed them on Ba’sun instead. The story was taken with a soft smile and a short nod. “Yes you’d be surprised what some of the younger riders count as proper these days. Born in a different world sometimes I think. I rather hope he regretted his actions before his demise.” Those words where soft as the older rider turned his face back towards the flames. He had little toleration for those who didn’t show proper respect when it was needed.
The sound of choking however had his head swiveling back around and back to his companion. Sel’n felt almost bad but he couldn’t quite suppress the laughter that bubbled up from his throat. See even he could be amusing if one gave him the chance. A wide grin greeted Ba’sun as he spoke and plucked at his shirt. “Could always lick it off mutt. That stuff is too precious to waste. Don’t get the good stuff like that until gathers roll around. Have to be careful with it.” He debated waggling his finger at the other but in the end didn’t, instead settling for watching curiously as the bluerider pulled off the wine spattered shirt. Hmmm. Despite himself Sel’n couldn’t help the examination that came next, his eyes automatically defaulting to the other man’s bare chest especially when Ba’sun chose to lean back against the log.
Not bad looking no, and the scars only made him look ‘experienced’, rougher in a way. In truth Sel’n preferred scaring, each told a small story. If one cared to remember that is. Plus they gave fingers something to trace. In fact Ba’sun’s finger’s where doing a nice job of that right now and the brownrider followed the motions for a few moments before he caught himself and his eyes flicked back to the bluerider’s face. The expression in them perhaps a bit sheepish. Here we was ogling the other as if he where a runner up for sale or something.
Tch. Getting to old for that kind of behavior. Running a hand through his short graying hair Sel’n chuckled. “Oh there are good things. Good memories but sadly I find the bad far outweighs the good. Either that or the bad ones just seem to stick in my mind more.” Snorting he grabbed a few scrolls and tossed them in before tossing a few over to B’asun. “So was that a yes or no to cuddling?” He asked, the teasing lit to his voice making it obvious he was kidding. The brownrider just couldn’t quite resist.

Erilena did flinch this time. Doubtful he had seen it though considering in the next moment he was turning away from her. “I’m not a mouse. Damn it R’ven. I was a bit nervous but that was because I half expected you to turn away and not give me the time of day. I half expected you’d hate me by now and I was afraid of that. So yeah. I came to you timid. Because I was unsure of how to begin. Not because I planned on coming here and lying to you.” Fingers fisted into her palms as she struggled to keep her voice from rising anymore. “I don’t want to lie to you. I don’t want to give you cause to avoid me anymore.” The greenrider hadn’t come to yell at him. Hadn’t come to be angry, although she had expected R’ven might be. Only more cause for her to try and remain calm because yelling back and forth wouldn’t help anything.
Taking a long deep breath to calm herself she watched as the smith went back to the log. His words where accepted for what they where and Erilena closed her eyes momentarily against a sudden rush of tears. Blinking them back she spoke. “I don’t think you’re pig-headed. But all the same it couldn’t have been fun to have people prodding at you.” Bringing her head back up to look at R’ven she gave a humorless smile. “In part I guess you’re right. I was miserable and I was convinced I deserved it. I didn’t know if I deserved to be happy. For better or worse I didn’t see why anyone would want to associate with me as I was. I’m a failure R’ven. In all I do and all I’ve done." A soft snort ended that coment. "Watching people look at Feyrianth and me and call us worthless and good for nothing when I know they are right in ways…. It isn’t easy to deal with and I was under the assumption that no one else could understand it. No one else can certainly fix it. Feyrianth was born how she was. She wants to be worth something, to be able to matter, to have a purpose. More than anything. We both do.”
Slowly Erilena stepped forward towards the log. R’ven could turn away if he wanted. That was his choice but she at least wanted to be able to see him, not just his back. “The rest of you have all done so well and come so far. Especially you, and Fey and I have stayed the same. We’ve had the same problems, not for lack of trying to fix them.” A glance was thrown her dragon’s way. “I didn’t want to visit my problems on anyone else. Faranth knows the rest of you had enough as it was. And when we broke up…. You where so upset and looked so lost on everything and damn it if I didn’t want to give you one more thing to worry about. So yes. I lied to you and told you I was fine, but I did it because I didn’t want to give you any more pain. I wanted to save you from it. In the end it ended up backfiring. Majorly. It was a beyond stupid move. I never wanted to give you cause to hate me R’ven. I never meant to piss you off and I never meant to hurt you. I’d never intentionally hurt you. However never meaning to doesn’t change the fact that I did.” Dropping her gaze to the fallen tree she smoothed one hand over the surface of it.
“I didn’t come here to fight. I came to try and clear the air a little bit. I would have come to you before. But... You said you wanted space and I wasn’t sure how much or for how long. All I know is I’ve come to realize a few things and I didn’t want to lose you completely. I don’t want to never see you again. To lose the option of saying hi being able to touch you. Even just a friendly hug.” Hazel eyes fixed on what of R'ven's face Erilena could see. “I’ve never been good about letting people take care of me. I’ve always wanted to take care of them instead, save them from pain and in the end I seem to keep causing it. There are a lot of things I’ve been thinking about in the time I’ve been alone.”
Softy Erilena continued. “It’s your right to dismiss me and you are right. What’s done is done, and I can’t go back. But thank you for at least giving me the chance to apologize and speak.” Whether it was accepted or not. Falling silent she placed one hand on his forearm, the touch light. Erilena was not sure if she should just leave now or stay. The greenrider wanted to stay but well R’ven still had the option of walking away and that would be it. Wouldn’t it?
Feyrianth flared her four wings her whirling eyes fixed on Trilaranth. You know me Trilmine. I like to repeat that which is redundant. Bouncing forward she crooned to him softly. Wherry? I can’t say that I have. I mostly hunt inside the weyr boundaries, at the feeding pen. Although I long to go further.
With an excited bugle she rocked back on her haunches and then leapt after the bigger brown. As Trilaranth skimmed the treetops the green dipped low to brush her tail along the brown’s spine playfully. Then she pulled up to slowly glide above his larger form. Excited Feyrianth was and it showed in the tenseness of her muscles and the adoration and excited colors whirling in her eyes as she flew above the larger male. You’ll have to show me the proper way to hunt like this. I can’t say I have ever had this experience.

Sel’n smiled at Ba’sun and kicked at the bag near his left foot. “Crushing is a nice way to put it. Crawling out at times has seemed impossible.” Tonight however wasn’t the night for somber thoughts and Sel’n simply wouldn’t allow them. No tonight was cleansing, celebration. Funny that he should have a previous enemy sitting at his fireside this night. Seemed almost fitting. In truth the older rider supposed that he could no longer truly be considered Fortian. Maybe. Some of his thought processes still ran along old fort paths. That would never change but since coming here he had grown more accepting he supposed. Strange that. Blue eyes flicked to his bag and he gave a small smile before tossing a few more into the fire. It was almost surprising to the brownrider how good a simple act such as this had him feeling. More like his old self. Before the tragic event that had changed his life forever. Only thing constant in life was change though. That was as true now as it had ever been.
Turning his attention back towards Ba’sun, as he continued on about F’lix, Sel’n laughed. “Oh I agree. The kid’s mind definitely works in ways I don’t think I’ll ever truly understand.” Nor really was he sure he ever wanted to. Leaving him to F’ur seemed safer and best. At least his old fortian friend seemed to have a good enough hold on his kitten. F’lix had certainly been almost de-clawed in a way be supposed. Although the young bluerider certainly did still have teeth. After the return thought the brownrider’s gaze immediately went to his knee before returning to Ba’sun.
The words the ‘toast’ contained had him grinning widely and he shook his head briefly in a gesture of amusement. “Yes. I’ve always liked old mutts. They make quite good fireside companions and they don’t ask for much. Just a scratch behind and ear here and a bit of food there.” Chuckling Sel’n noted the smile and a glint of interest lit up his features before Ba’sun preformed his little slightly perverted stunt. It was hard to keep a straight face really. But somehow he managed if only barely. It probably was quite amusing to watch him struggle to keep his face blank. When the bottle was offered back to him was eyed with an expression close to mock distaste and then grabbed it. Holding it up to the fire light and squinting as if to examine it Sel’n sighed. “This is what I get for inviting an old mutt to my fire…. Just my luck that this one slobbers.” Grinning he took a swing from the bottle not even bothering to wipe it off first. Handing it back to Ba’sun he laughed.
“Well I suppose your ‘keeper’ will come fetch you sooner or later. As for me I suppose Kaaoloth will either drag me back or I’ll pass out next to him and hope he doesn’t roll over on me. Who knows maybe we can cuddle together for warmth towards the end.” Waggling his eyes brows at the other rider he laughed. The thought of curling up with the other wasn’t really undesirable in truth. Ba’sun really wasn’t bad looking after all. “Either way the night holds so much promise.” Chuckling he took another scroll and tossed it to Ba’sun. “Help me burn this shit will you.”

Darmori chuckled at Vix’s explanation. “Not everything but I know what you mean. some of the people here are huge and not just in height either." Nope some of them looked like they could crush him simply with a look. Shivering at that thought the blonde leaned down to get a really close look at this moth. Looking no doubt for some kind of mouth part. Did moth’s have teeth? If so that might be a bit scary.
The rambling of his roommate did not escape notice but the bronze handler was far from complaining. It was nice to keep the other teen speaking. Made it feel like they where finally having an actual conversation. “Huh to be truthful I have no idea what they eat.” Still staring at the large insect he scrunched his nose. “Maybe they eat leaves like a caterpillar?” That didn’t make much sense really but eh. “I think one of the drudges once told me she thought they eat clothes to. But I’m not really sure if that is true or not.”
Drawing closer he grabbed Darmosk’s snout and gently turned the large head to get a better look. The moth didn’t seem to mind either way and continued it’s slow wing fanning. Peering very closely Darmori snorted. ‘It doesn’t look like it has a mouth at all. I don’t know. Maybe they don’t eat anything. But if they don’t eat how do they stay alive? Yes either way none of this made an sense.” Letting go of Darmosk’s nose he shrugged. “I don’t even know who we could ask? Maybe Dmitri? That kid seems like he knows everything.” Okay so maybe the bronze handler still felt a bit of hero worship towards the bronze handler. But well he was cool! All stoic and smart and, and, and. Before he could start to try to rationalize that thought Darmori stopped and turned to Vix. “Maybe examining it closer would help.” with slow precise movements Darmori started to reach towards the large moth.
Darmosk lolled his tongue out and crooned to his sister. His handler for the moment completely ignored. Darmori was neither as pretty or fun as his green sister after all. Oh yes! It tickled horribly. He could only imagine what it would feel like on his nose. Would definitely make him sneeze as well he supposed. As the moth moved he closed one eye again. Oh yes he still very much wanted to see one of these butterfly things. Especially if it was as pretty as his sister said and he had no reason to doubt her. What about dawn? His eyes could stand the light pretty well as could hers. Right before bedtime? Would they be out then? In the bronze’s excitement about planning he forgot about the moth on his eye ridge and sprang to his feet jarring the creature into taking flight just as Darmori reached for it. Whoops. Tongue lolling out Darmosk watched as his made some unsuccessful leaps for the retreating moth and then took off after it on foot. “Hey! Come back. I just wanna examine you!”
Harmony noting Rook’s unease with staying still uncurled from the blue. Sitting back on her haunches she demurely cleaned one forepaw her whiling eyes going from it to the whers below. Despite the running and garbled quality to the blue’s words the gold had no problems in deciphering. Same yes. All ugly. Flaring her over large wings and then tucking them back into position she moved forward to get a better look at the ground below. Satisfied that the moth was leaving she crooned. Ugly leaving now. We go back? Looking back towards Rook she purred. He needn’t stay so still on her account. Although she appreciated the attempt.

Sel’n turned his eyes to Ba’sun the amused light in them far from unreadable. “Hmm she said that? Tell me was your mother blind or just confused? Because to me you look like quite the devil. Then again I think my eyesight might be going a little so maybe it’s my mistake.” With a short chuckle he took another swing of the wine and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. If the brownrider had to have company this night, he couldn’t say he was regretting his current companion. There where far worse people to have to suffer the company of.
Yes this Ba’sun was alright in his book so far. Amusing at least. Although maybe that was the alcohol talking. I doubt it. You haven’t had near enough yet. Instead you have a gift for attracting odd people. If you ever met anyone normal I might keel over dead. We wouldn’t want that. Oh really? I think it might be a blessing. Yes for me. I wouldn’t have this annoying thing picking at the back of my brain and making a comment every time I have a thought. A rumble of amusement was his answer, Kaaoloth stretching out and closing his slow whirling eyes. Awake the brown remained but he preferred to give the illusion that he was not.
The brownrider was aware of the eyes on him but he have no indication of such, instead swirling the wine around in the bottle and gazing into the fire. He was content to leave Ba’sun to his own inner thoughts for the moment as he inwardly turned to his. A chuckle however left Sel’n’s lips as he outstretched his leg, mildly irritated that his knee still wasn’t one hundred percent. The chuckle turned to a short bark of laughter. “Ah words of wisdom. You’re right. Pissing the night away was not really my intention, but this stuff is just laying around so I thought to use it up. I suppose I could always be cheap and gift it way to those I don’t really like.” A spark of amusement lit up his face momentarily as he set the bottle down on the sand. The outstretched scroll in the brownrider’s hand was rolled up when it became apparent that the bluerider was done examining it.
With a simple underhand toss Sel’n threw it towards the fire where it exploded with another audible pop. Before the man reached down for another couple of scrolls he noticed Ba’sun’s attention drift towards the bag and he silently waited for the comment he knew was likely coming. A slow smile spread across the older rider’s face and he nudged the bag with a foot. “Heh. Any wonder I want to offload some of it hmm? I’ve carried it around for far too long. Feel like a damn burden beast. I’m sure it won’t all leave forever but just the actual action of putting it behind me will help. I believe so anyway. Certainly better than the alternative methods I’ve tried.” Sel’n didn’t intend to get into those alternative methods but if the other rider was curious Ba’sun seemed to be the type to likely ask. Looking back towards the fire the brownrider gave a light smile. “I’m not saying I would change all of it. Or even most of it. But certainly going back to it constantly isn’t helping me out any.”
Falling quiet as Ba’sun picked up the conversation his eyes narrowed at the name given. F’lix. A soft snort was given. “Yes I know him. He’s much less cute when he’s busting your knee let me tell you.” Wincing at that memory Sel’n turned his head to catch his companion’s eye. “F’ur is his weyrmate. Right adorable couple aren’t they?” The dry sarcasm in his tone was not even slightly hidden and he gave a snort of irritation before reaching behind the log and pulling out a different bottle.
“Have to feed you to keep you around eh? Like a stray dog.” Grinning to take any unintentional sting out of the comment he tossed the smaller bottle to Ba’sun. “Lucky you’re a cute stray. I don’t share with just anyone. Especially not Benden curs. But I guess you get to be an exception.” Amusement was present behind the brownrider’s as eyes he tossed a few more scrolls into the fire. He watched them burn before checking the status of his ‘past’. “Hmm. This is going to take all night at this rate.” Stretching his arms forward Sel’n tilted his head at Ba’sun. “You don’t slobber do you?” Humor danced behind those words as he waited for a return comment. “If you do I might just have to let you keep that.”

Nodding silently Erilena tightened her arms around X’rx for a moment, not willing to lose the comfort of another’s arm around her, before she slowly pulled away. He hadn’t gotten her unspoken message. Instead he had taken her words at face value it seemed. Yes she could find someone willing to help her with the fall procedures. It was her emotional and life issues in which she had no spotters. No one to look to for support. The greenrider had lost her support there. Almost completely, and who could blame any of them for pulling away?
She certainly couldn’t. It was all her own doing. Erilena’s current exile was self created. But perhaps some of it could be fixed? She hoped so anyway. If not. The greenrider would deal with that when the time came. Hazel eyes flicked up to X’rx as he moved to readjust his ribbon. His flush caused her to smile gently. Sweet man her classmate. Feyrianth echoed that sediment with a soft purr her muzzle softly brushing against the boy’s shoulder before her gaze again turned to the sky.
The greenrider’s attention in turn stayed on X’rx. Again she flashed him a small smile. Funny how just in the past few moments she had given him more actual smiles than she had given anyone all month. “I suppose you are right. Thank you and I’d like to thank Ximera in person sometime. But please tell her I think they are beautiful and I’m thankful. It’s really the best gift I think I have ever gotten.” It was to. The bowls would be have to be perfectly displayed and she would have to be beyond careful with them. Lovely as they where, and as meaningful as the gesture was to her, she would be completely heartbroken if one broke. A short nod was given. “either way. I’m glad you came along.” For whatever reason he had Erilena was beyond grateful to her fellow greenrider. He had given her something that she could never repay him for. Illumination. Yelling, anger, and frustration could only get one so far. Closing her eyes momentarily as X’rx spoke one hand raised to touch Feyrianth’s neck.
“To be completely honest. I don’t know. Maybe I wanted to show myself that we can do anything the other’s can. As untrue as that fact may be. I know Feyrianth is different but I refuse to believe she was born for no purpose.” Tossing her blonde hair back over her shoulder hazel eyes went to her dragon. There had to be something. Maybe it would take awhile to find but it had to be there yes? If she could hold onto that fact… Erilena’s attention went back to X’rx and she nibbled on her bottom lip lost in thought.
“Perhaps. I’ll have to think on that a bit.” Was there something healing wise she could use Feyrianth for? If so what? Perhaps she could approach Kali and ask. Maybe the Dragonhealer would have an idea and if not at least she had exhausted that option. Finger’s smoothed over Feyrianth’s hide lightly as the jungle noises became more pronounced in nature and the light around the pair faded further. “Yes. Not only mine but her’s as well. That would be the ideal. You’re right. Maybe I just have to look harder.” Or maybe she was just looking in all the wrong places.
Either way. Erilena had way to much to think about currently. Rubbing at her temple she flashed X’rx another light smile. "So where you on your way to bed?" Yes she had just noticed his attire. Unobservant she was apparently, or perhaps just previously a little preoccupied.

Cr’oph would be lying if he said he didn’t find M’kai’s particular brand of determination a bit amusing. At the very least it should be interesting. The red head watched his twin brother as he approached the irritated greenrider an amused smiled curling up the corner of one lip. For a moment he expected Erilena to simply brush past him but no. Low and Behold the princess was giving his brother the benefit of her presence. Well now. Color him surprised. M’kai’s triumphant look was given an eye roll in return, the message clear. Don’t count your firelizards dear brother.
Erilena blinked at M’kai the expression in her eyes wary and guarded. It was hard not to lump him in the same category as his twin brother automatically. One thing was for certain she no more trusted M’kai than she did Cr’oph. Perhaps that wasn’t fair but the other red head had not given her reason nor desire to trust him. So M’kai was on a steep slope. He’d have to fight to change the greenrider’s already biased view of him. Hazel eyes examined the bluerider across from her as he sat and offered her the juice.
Immediately Erilena took a small sip more out of a desire to be polite than anything else. She wasn’t hungry nor thirsty. With perhaps mild interest she continued to regard the man as he spoke to her. The bow was noted with a flash of amusement. “Well met M’kai. I am Erilena of Feyrianth but you already know that don’t you. Through your brother more than likely.” Yes she was being very formal but currently she had no reason nor interest in exposing herself in any way and formality was a shield of sorts. Or at least it was for her. A quite convenient and good one at times.
Taking another sip of the juice the greenrider watched as M’kai’s expression changed and became blank, almost haunted. She felt bad about the death of his sister. Truly did. Losing someone was never really easy. The pain never really went away, just grew less severe with time. She had experience in that area due to the loss of her mandyr. Leo was something she would never forget and that pain would never truly leave, although it had faded to something she was better able to manage with the passage of time. Meagan would be like that for M’kai. No it wasn’t exactly the same thing. But loss was similar. Even the loss of friends hurt.
The sudden change of topic onto her had Erilena immediately hardening. She didn’t talk about herself. Even under the best of situations. Her problems, especially now, where her problems. He wouldn’t understand anyway. His dragon wasn’t different like Feyrianth. His blue didn’t have the problems her green had nor did the red head have to worry about becoming a leech to the weyr. Besides his brother was one of the ones who viewed Feyrianth with disgust and it made her want to slap that look off Cr’oph’s face every time she saw him.
Hazel eyes examined M’kai with an unreadable expression before she spoke. “There is nothing to tell you. I am just as uninteresting as you it seems. Just having a bad day is all.” Her voice was light and friendly enough even if her words where pretty dismissive of the topic.

Sel’n smiled softly at Jazheera as she made a comment about her height. His blue eyes danced with a small bit of mirth as he responded. “Size wasn’t everything. Despite what some people will have you believe.” Chuckling softly at some private thought he brought his hand back up to scratch gently at a pale eye ridge. “Yes eating people is not recommended. Not only do we taste nasty but we are certain to give you indigestion. You will remember that won’t you Dhavalth?” Eyeing Vanity he gave her a silent warning to behave the green mandyr turning her eyes towards her bonded and frilling in defiance as per her normal reaction. Ignoring her always worked best and so the older rider simply turned back to the weyrling.
Vanity crooned softly arching her back up against Dhavalth’s head knob much like a feline. Silly blue beast. Is not fellow. Is Greenqueen. Bestest female weyr has. Member this. Scampering to the middle of the pale dragon’s head she stuck a regal pose tail wrapping about her haunches and frill at full extension as she looked down upon the less important humans. Good slaves are they no? She asked her mount privately. Oh she quite liked this one. He was better than the brown beast. This one displayed her hide quite marvelously.
The ex Weyrlingmaster gave Jazheera a bright smile. “Well keep working. I’m sure you two will be an asset to any wing you get drafted into.” Limping around to Dhavalth’s side he took a few steps back to get a better profile on the blue. “Keep working and I’m sure you’ll get into a rhythm. He’s formed beautifully. Not as heavily muscled as some blue’s but he’s got whipcord strength. You’ll be surprised what he can accomplish when he finally get’s a feel for his abilities.” Grinning he winked at Jazheera. “When he does you’ll have to take me for a ride. Kaaoloth can’t pull off some to the stunts these blue’s can and it’s thrill I don’t get to experience often. That is if neither of you object.” Stepping back towards the blueweyrling the older rider watched as Dhavalth lowered his head, his hand coming up to stroke the soft pale muzzle.
The words the blue offered had Sel’n’s eyes widening and he immediately had to bite his tongue to keep from laughing outwardly. He didn’t want to offend Jazheera after all, although at this point she looked more embarrassed than anything else. Chuckling softly the brownrider finally spoke. “From the mouths of babes….” Winking at the small female he continued, speaking directly to the blue. “Fine? That’s probably the first time I’ve been called that in years. Unfortunately my friend, I’ll likely have to take a rain check. You see not only am I terribly busy but you and yours are as well. I think you should get your flying under control before you worry about flight for yours. Believe me later on down the road she will have plenty of time for such things.”
Yes pregnancy while still a weyrling, while not exactly frowned upon, was not exactly encouraged of wanted. Plenty of time for that further down the road after all. Besides Dhavalth really wasn’t even old enough yet. The things some dragons got into their heads…… He couldn’t remember if Kaaoloth had ever been that silly. I would think not. Smiling Sel’n responded. Seems as if we are both plagued by memory loss.

R’ven’s first sentence caused Erilena to bite her lip. Old friends? Yes that was all they ever where wasn’t it? Friends? Maybe for him but certainly not for her. Hazel eyes examined the brownrider before her, minimal irritation present in them for his word choice. “No. Old friends don’t greet each other that way. I wasn’t aware that we where ‘old’ friends. I was trying not to come off as assuming. But obviously I failed.” The words I’m sorry sprung to mind but the greenrider stubbornly bit them back. Instead she merely watched as the smith jerked the blade down the tree violently. Stuck a nerve somewhere along the way it seemed. Well currently the feeling was a tad mutual. Old friends? Really? When did it become old? Was he implying they where not friends?
Movement from R’ven had Erilena’s eyes seeking out his and absolutely refusing to look away she stood her ground even when the brownrider stood to his full height and stepped towards her. Was he seeking to intimidate her now? Fine. Let him try. Tilting her face up towards him she took a deep breath. “What do I think I was being selfish about? A lot of things really. I never stopped to consider how Feyrianth felt about how I was acting. How any of my friends felt. How my actions affected anyone else. I wasn’t thinking about anything but what was bothering me. How upset and hurt I was. Now useless I felt. That is how I was being selfish. I never stopped and thought about how what I was doing was affecting anyone else. What I was putting anyone else through including Feyrianth. I was wrong.” Falling silent she waited again for R’ven to speak letting the sounds of the jungle around them and the dragons fill the silence.
Feyrianth tilted her head to look down at Trilaranth a soft rumbling laugh emerging from her throat as he attempted to dodge her licks. Eyes whirling still in playful shades she snorted and wiggled against the brown beneath her. Oh I can think of many somethings you are good for. Up to and including being my playmate and personal pillow of comfort. Lucky you are Tril. Crooning in amusement she nipped softly at his neck. Hmm. I am very hungry. So hungry that I think I could eat you. But a herdbeast might taste better. Still…I do not know. I quite like your taste. As if to display this fact she licked him again before rolling off the sprawled brown with a soft rumbling laugh and fluttering her four wings. Lunch sounds very good however. You do not have to fetch it if it is too much trouble? I can accompany you.
Erilena almost flinched at the smith’s words although she suppressed the feeling and instead took a step forward towards him. His choices in wording did not escape her notice and she was tempted to comment on his usage of the word ‘fanny’. Really? Brushing that thought aside, childish to pick a fight like that anyway, she kept her eyes focused on his face. “I’m not playing proper and I’m not here to tell you what I think you want to hear. I’m through with telling anyone what I think they want to hear. It doesn’t get me anywhere and it’s no better than lying I’ve come to realize.” Shaking her head she sighed. “All I can tell you is what I think you where, are, angry about. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. I rather think you will anyway.” Giving him a light smile the greenrider stepped forward, again decreasing the distance between them.
“I think you where angry because of the way I was acting. Because people kept coming to you. Bringing you into something you knew you had nothing to do with. I never meant for my actions to reflect anything on you. I don’t know why people thought you had anything to do with the way I was acting. Why they blamed you for anything. I missed you terribly yes. I still do. But you where not the reason for my actions. Nor did I mean to make you worry if you did. I know that even if you didn’t love me you still cared about me and it couldn’t have been easy or fun for you to watch me do that to myself. It wasn’t easy for Fey. It probably wasn’t easy for anyone who cared about me. I’m sorry. I can apologize but I can’t take back what was done. All I can do is mark it down as a mistake and failure and try to move past it. Not let it happen again. Nor do I expect you to forgive me. For anything.” After she had finished Erilena trailed off into silence, hazel eyes still fixed on R’ven’s face. “I’m sorry handsome. I never meant for things to happen the way they did.”
