Hah! She had gotten a smile. Erilena couldn’t help but smile herself, clearly pleased that she had gotten Dmitri to crack a more pleasant expression. The woman had made a habit of doing that before they had even started dating, attempting through various methods to get the harper out of whatever funk he got himself into and smiling again even if only for a little while. She couldn’t help wrinkling her nose at him when he mentioned she was better at dancing. Tempting it was to pinch him, but instead she just reached over for another piece of fruit and rested against him comfortably. His idle caresses were almost lulling her into a sort of comfortable trance and Erilena had let her gaze fall to watching the rise and fall of his chest with each intake of his breath in the silence. When Dmitri spoke again her eyes flicked back up to his face, her full attention going to him to be better able to hear the almost whispered words.
The softly spoken words caused the greenrider to flinch slightly and she shook her head. Looking back it was one of the events that Erilena was most ashamed of in her life. How she had unraveled so badly when R’ven had broken up with her and then again when Dmitri and her had separated. Privately she thought the second time she had gone through it had been worse. That time she had believed she was literally dying slowly but the blonde didn’t mention that fact to him. Didn’t see really how it would help anything at all. Regardless she liked to think that neither time would she really have killed herself. She had Feyrianth after all. Feyrianth would never have stood for such a thing. She had been young and emotional and well…very, very, stupid. Her eyes flicked back to Dmitri’s face the look apologetic. The thought came that she should apologize and tell him that she wouldn’t have left Feyrianth and her other family but he had already gone on and she didn’t feel right bringing it out again.
Instead Erilena frowned and nibbled on another strawberry gathering her thoughts before she spoke. “I don’t understand it either but I don’t know if it’s just that we’re together. Somehow I think it’s more than that. He…well I wish I could have gotten more out of him then I did but as always it was hard to pry out what I did. That much hasn’t changed. I think he even said more than he wanted.” The brownrider had been so irritated with her that otherwise Erilena knew he would have said even less. She still remembered that about him. How closed he was. That’s part of the reason she had had issues with him. How closed R’ven was bothered her. She was always left second guessing, or just plain outright guessing how he felt sometimes. Just wishing that he would let her in. Only it never happened and then he was pulling away even more and the greenrider just…couldn’t take it.
Her eyes flicked back to her husband and she rested her head on his chest listening to the sudden hard pattering of rain against the window panes. “I wish I could tell you more than I can. He wasn’t very forthcoming with it all. All I know is he’s upset with both of us and that he had started feeling that way even before Wasteland took over. I just, I wish I could give you the answers you want Dmitri but I don’t have them. Only one person does.”
Erilena wasn’t a fool. She knew that that likely meant. Dmitri would want to go and find out for his own. He’d want to know. The blonde frowned at that idea. She didn’t want her husband to get hurt further but somehow she knew he would feel he had to go anyway. It wasn’t right to stop him. She had to support him in it. She just hoped that R’ven would be at least civil. The woman couldn’t believe that the smith wouldn’t be, but if tempers got flared…Dmitri wasn’t a fighter. Not at all. And that worried her just a bit. Maybe it was the baby making her a bit more over anxious then usual but she couldn’t help the feeling of concern. Finally she spoke softly trying not to betray the anxiety she felt. “Take Dmisk with you when you go. Please.” Because honestly he didn’t have to say that he was going to go. Somehow, Erilena just knew.

He was very in his head. That much was apparent. Erilena was used to this. It happened from time to time. Dmitri was a thinker and when he had something on his mind a lot of the time it was best to let him work though it as much as he could himself before asking what was wrong. But in this case she simply knew. It was the thing with R’ven that had him so subdued. He’d mentioned things to her off and on. Teasing about how she had chosen the smith over him. About how he didn’t blame her because he was an awkward kid. But the greenrider knew her husband was self-deprecating. Even if he mostly kept it to himself.
Sometimes Erilena desperately wished Dmitri didn’t feel that way. That she could pull those thoughts out of his head and let him see himself as she saw him. How Eikane, Nautic, Raebeli and so many others who really knew him did. She understood to a point why he felt the way he did. The harper’s childhood hadn’t been easy. Abandoned by his father and mother. Raised pretty much by the hall. Subjected to Camlin. On top of that he had to endure what happened in the hatching sands, the looks that that attack had gained him, and the instant judgment that wasn’t at all deserved. None of that helped Dmitri’s self-esteem or confidence any. Now this whole run in with R’ven. It couldn’t help those issues. Not one bit.
Erilena was silent as Dmitri adjusted her clothing for her, hazel eyes flicking to his own blue ones before he broke the gaze to stare down near her chest. A bit of sadness entered her gaze and for a moment she was glad that he couldn’t meet her eyes. Hated that he couldn’t and was a bit glad for it at the same time. Why should he feel like he couldn’t look at her? “Dmitri…” she began softly and trailed off as he bit his lip and his gaze flicked to the ceiling. He was wrestling with his thoughts. It was painfully obvious. There were doubts swirling in those blue grey depths that she often found herself lost in. His eyes were like a storm without the thunder that would represent anger. It was just darkness swirled with doubt. A storm tossed sea.
The blonde reached out a hand to stroke it across the unscarred side of his face and then propped herself up so that she could place a hand on the other side too stroking his cheeks gently. “Dmitri. Look at me.” Erilena waited for him to comply gently turning his head so that he had to look at her more fully. “It’s fine. I don’t care if you’re being a little selfish. It’s upsetting to both of us. Don’t make this all about me because it’s not.” The woman’s voice was calm but there was an underlying firmness to it. There simply because she wanted him to pay attention. “You’re right friends don’t do that. He had no business doing what he did. If there should be any apologies they should be coming from him. Not you. You have every right to be upset, as do I. He has his own reasons to be upset too I’m sure. But he should have found another way to communicate.”
One hand threaded up into his hair her eyes flicking to his trying to hold his dark stormy ones. “Understand something for me. The kiss doesn’t matter. It was unwanted. It meant nothing. I didn’t want it and I still don’t. The part of me that believed I loved him died so long ago Dmitri. It’s been gone for a long time. There isn’t anything left. I tried to tell him that. That I care for him still as a person, but that’s as far as it goes. It pissed me off that he kissed me. That he would do that to you. To me. To himself even. He had no right.”
Erilena shook her head then her hand still moving in a slow caress over the side of her husband’s face. “I wish that it hadn’t happened at all but it did. I wish I had just let it go and not pursued the issue but I wanted to understand why he stayed away too. Why he never came calling. Part of me knew it was because he was upset and I should have just let it go. Not tried to fix something that probably would have been better left alone. That was my mistake. I’m just sorry I drug us all into this. I just wanted to see if I could understand. Make it better maybe. I’m silly like that I guess.” The greenrider sighed softly. “I really wish I would have had something better to tell you. It just…sucks.” She hated seeing him hurting and doubting and knowing that it was her fault and there was little she could do to fix it. Well partially her fault anyway. Blame was shared all around in truth, but she was the catalyst for it all. That truth Erilena couldn’t escape. Still, she couldn’t go back and change the past and what had happened in it. In truth the woman didn’t know if she would even want to. Things fell into place like they had for a reason and she knew in her heart it had all happened as it was supposed to. That she was with Dmitri because what she felt for him could not be denied. No matter what would have happened had events been different she knew somehow that she would have ended up with him in the end, believed it to be a truth that just was.
Loving him was like loving Fey in ways. It was all encompassing. She told him often how she felt. That she had no regrets about being with him. But getting him to believe it as she did was a whole different story and Erilena wasn’t sure sometimes that Dmitri would ever believe it. Her resolve would just have to be enough. She had no plans to ever leave Dmitri as long as she drew breath. She put up with his issues with his ex because she loved him. Accepted him for all his flaws. He may be broken in ways. But he was hers and he was beautiful to her. Maybe one day he would understand and maybe he wouldn’t. But she couldn’t and wouldn’t stop loving him. That was a truth she knew. Dmitri didn’t believe in things such as soul mates, destiny, and fate. To be honest Erilena didn’t really either for the most part. But she believed in him. In them together. In how she felt. There were no lies there. It was all clear as crystal to her and she wasn’t willing to give that up. Would fight to keep it alive.
Gently she kissed his nose. “Hey you with the saaaaad eyeeeeeees~ Don’t be discouraged~” She sing songed softly knowing that she probably sounded terrible but for the moment not caring. If she could just get him to crack something of a smile it would be worth it.

It wasn’t M’ta who answered the door. Instead it was a girl with dark hazel eyes, a half scowl on her face, and her hair done up in pigtails with a red ribbon tied to each one. “It’s rude to yell and knock on a door you know. Bored or not.” Terilyn quipped her gaze still slightly narrowed on E’rro. Oh look. It was the one who took her brother from her. What did he want? A more pleasant greeting was given Ismaroth. Wasn’t the dragon’s fault his rider was a brother napper after all. Ismaroth I think that there is plenty of room on the ledge right now if you want to be closer to Ruth. Right Ruth?
Putting a hand on her hip she then turned her attention back to E’rro. “If you want me to shut the door again so that you can knock like a normal person, I’ll tell Daddy that you came calling. I think that’s fair don’t you?” The little girl pursed her lips and started to shut the door then. Teach that brownrider to steal her brother and then have the nerve to bang the door down. Wasn’t anyone ever polite anymore?

She really couldn’t help it. Hazel eyes regarded Dmitri with quiet attention as he stripped to don his bedtime shorts. Every pull of muscle and facet to him was taken in with no small amount of appreciation. Her husband didn’t have to act self-conscious around her but she knew he felt that way with other people. Sometimes she wished he didn’t have to feel that way but at least he didn’t have to with her. He could be comfortable in his own skin. Only when he moved to take the piece of cheese from her did Erilena realize that she was still in her day clothes. Whoops. Oh well. Really she should move and change as well but she was reluctant to move now that she’d finally gotten fairly comfortable. Instead she simply slipped her socks off with her feet and allowed Dmitri to pull her close to him. Incredibly close to him. The woman certainly wasn’t going to complain about that.
Instead Erilena snuggled against her husband and reached over his chest to grab for a strawberry, trailing her fingers lightly across his chest before grabbing the fruit. Her eyes flicked to his lips as he spoke and she wrinkled her nose before taking a bite of the fruit. “It’s been something that’s for sure.” She agreed, hoping that she didn’t sound quite as tired as she felt. A soft smile flitted across her lips as he kissed her temple and she offered Dmitri the rest of her strawberry after his apology. “It’s okay. It’s been kind of an emotional day for everyone. You don’t have to apologize. I know you’re happy too.” And the woman did know. He’d wanted another child too after all. A soft kiss was brushed against his jaw before she threaded one hand up into his hair and stroked her fingers gently though it. “I’m sure they’ll be great little helpers. They’re so excited. I don’t think they quite understand how long it’ll take though.” There was a small note of amusement in her tone. “It’s going to be quite the adventure for them too. I haven’t told anyone besides you yet but Emit and Leina blabbed it to Nick when he came to watch them for a little bit. I made him promise not to tell my parents though so that we could do it ourselves.”
Reaching for a grape Erilena popped it into her mouth and tried to think of the best way to bring up the more upsetting topic without completely ruining the comfortable mood. Unfortunately she didn’t think there was a way to temper it and though she didn’t want to bring up an uncomfortable topic at all she knew it was better now than later. And besides that it would help keep her more awake. Otherwise the woman had no doubt that food and being cuddled so close would lull her to sleepiness even with the slight annoyance of still being in her normal clothes, especially the stupid breastband which was just a tad askew and was driving her nuts when she thought about it.
Shifting so she could try to adjust the offending article one handed Erilena debated her opening sentence. Finally she gave up on the breastband and managed an apologetic smile for Dmitri. “I feel like a hot mess. I’m betting you feel similar. I’m sorry. About R’ven…I wish there had been an easier way to tell you.” Or an easier way to make the brownrider understand. But then maybe he did understand. It was hard to say in the end. Things got heated and really she knew it couldn’t be easy for the smith either. It never was when feelings were involved.

Cr’oph did well to keep the irritation from showing on his face, instead he adopted a rather calm expression his grey eyes flicking to each rider and holding as they spoke. E’rro came up with good points. Besides that he sounded like he would make a valuable ally. If he played his cards right. Cr’oph could give and take for that man’s support. It didn’t much matter to him if dragonhealers were dragonriders. It made sense. He also didn’t mind if some could be dual trained. E’rro and Erilena were already dual trained. Granted his old classmate had been shuttled off to a hold. She still visited on occasion and he had the sneaking suspicion that it wasn’t all pleasantries. No. The bronzer could agree on that point. It was some things that the older ones were saying that he found annoying.
S’rei has a smart man. The younger bronzer was fairly certain that he couldn’t contest him. Not because he was afraid of him but because his time was done. He had said it himself. Cr’oph and his peers were the future of Pern. Not the older bronzers like S’rei or M’gnum. They would just have to make way in the end. The man was fairly certain he had a decent chance to win if he played his cards right and if he could gain enough support to sway the votes in his favor. Something he was working on. Ce’thain hadn’t spoken up but then the man was quiet so that didn’t mean much. Cr’oph was fairly sure that the man would compete again and he had a good track record. Hmm. Pushing that thought aside as there was finally a silence he could take advantage of Cr’oph spoke up again.
“I’m sorry if I gave that impression that they all are terrible riders. I’m not saying all I’m saying a majority. I understand that for now we need them to bolster our candidate numbers. I think however that E’rro has a good point. We should be more selective in what holds we take from and who we take from them. Why not take the youngest possible so that we have a better chance to tweak them to understand and accept our ways? Older ones seem like a waste of time except in, as many of you pointed out, special cases.” That should hopefully shut some of them up on that angle and stop them from trying to criminalize him. “I’m just looking out for our future prospects and to that point I do agree on trying to get the healer restrictions loosened. However I do not agree on bringing all those crafters back who have already been settled in holds. I think pushing for allowing the dragonriding healers to decide if they want to come back to simply be on call for the weyr is enough. Also I agree that getting permission to have a set amount of young riders trained for dragonhealing would be beneficial not only to us but to the holds we protect. The dragons are out there protecting them it’s not unreasonable to ask for health benefits for them to help do their duty”
As to the point about the other crafter riders? “I don’t really think knowing the majority opinion at this point would do us any good. We need those riders where they are, as you S’rei pointed out, and if we really want this healer ban lifted we have a better shot of doing that if we don’t ask for too much at one time. Asking for one craft’s restrictions to be lifted is far easier to obtain then asking for multiple favors at one time. Besides I really don’t see this huge outcry from any of them to be accepted back into the weyr. Maybe one or two are having issues but that is hardly a majority. Perhaps we can allow them to plead their cases individually for the summit to listen to but I think that’s as far as we should let that go.”
This finished he turned grey eyes on M’gnum the look cold but not angry. “The holds hold no power over us truly. They just think they do and it’s best to allow them to continue believing such illusions. It keeps us and them safer. They have not imposed anything on us that we were not willing to let happen. It’s hardly made us any weaker either. If anything some of the bans only help us out in the long run. Our riders no longer hold allegiance to various crafts when they should only hold allegiance to the weyr. So I am not sure where you are getting that from. If we wanted to we could take all our riders back at the drop of a hat. We could refuse to fly thread. We could use the dragons against them. They know this too. Holds and weyrs will never be equal in power. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t let that be the illusion for the sake of peace but that’s hardly a truth. I don’t see why holder candidates that fail to impress should be allowed to stay either. They can benefit their respective holds far more by taking up a craft then staying here and doing drudge work. The way you want things to run may work in storybooks M’gnum but the world is not perfect. It is dirty and cruel and will bite you in the ass if you’re not careful.” With that the young bronzer subsided and stroked the Razorclaw on his shoulder, Raven offering a soft whistle before picking at the bronzer’s fingers gently.

Her nose wrinkled as Dmitri kissed it and stepped back and Erilena fought the urge to pout at him. No fair moving off like that just when she was getting all pleasantly cuddly. It didn’t stop her from shadowing her husband to the kitchen though, an amused look being offered him when he started rummaging through cupboards. Ever the bottomless pit. Once it was because of all the shardblasted growing vertically he was doing. Now it was probably because of how active of a lifestyle he led. The harper really was lucky she was a decent cook.
“Fruit sounds nice to me too. Maybe a little cheese?” The blonde responded before moving past him to the ice chest grab a wedge of that too. Cheese and fruit sounded just fine to her. Glancing back at Dmitri she smiled. “We have any grapes? Or strawberries? For some reason I really want strawberries.” With that Erilena neatly sliced the cheese into smaller portions before putting the remainder away. “You know…,” she began in a conversational tone as she picked up the plate, “I was tempted to throw a fit like the twins when you mentioned bed. So don’t be surprised if that actually happens at some point.” Glancing back at him she wrinkled her nose playfully. Erilena was pretty sure she could do a good impression of either twin if it came down to it. Though she doubted she could pull it off with quite the same level of pleading.
It was hard to keep a completely serious look on her face as she finally turned from the counter to face her husband and put one hand on her hip. Regarding him with a mock stern look she gestured to the food with a nod of her head. “If we get crumbs in the bed I am not doing the sheets. Your idea and all.” With that she stuck out her tongue, though the gesture had only playfulness behind it, you know besides the obvious touch of brat. Erilena was happy that Dmitri was in a better mood and though she wasn’t naïve enough believe it would last forever, she was damn well going to enjoy it while it lasted. “Hurry now Puppylove. We have food to stuff in our faces.” She commented with another touch of playfulness as she made a come hither gesture and half swayed to their bedroom. Once there she slipped the plate of cheese onto the bedside table and gracelessly flopped onto the bed. Glancing up at him the woman patted the spot on the bed beside her.
Part of Erilena knew what was to come and, though she couldn’t say she was exactly looking forward to all the talking, she knew it was necessary. She also knew that it would be okay and they’d get through it all together. Love couldn’t be all flowers, rainbows, kisses, and happiness all the time. Sometimes it was grey, uncomfortable, upsetting, and even painful. Dmitri and she had their troubles, worries and rocky areas like any couple but they worked at it. Together. They weren’t just husband and wife, they were partners and the woman was beyond grateful for that fact. Knowing she could lean on him when needed, and that he in turn could lean on her sometimes made all the difference and it made those hard parts more bearable. Honestly by this point she couldn’t imagine her life without him. Hazel eyes regarded her husband before she smiled and reached over to pick up a piece of cheese, offering it to him silently.

“I’ve never gotten to play at the whole joined couple thing.” Elysia purred her dark eyes flicking to K’sel before she teased. “Bedroom eyes and groping hmm? Why K’sel if I didn't know any better I would think that such things are what you are really looking forward to.” But really she did know better. The brownrider was a child of chaos just as she herself was. They were kindred spirits or something all spiritual like that. Sometimes the woman wondered what would have happened had she been a bit younger and not so life jaded and they had taken up together. Or, Faranth forbid, if they had grown up together. She was fairly sure that they may have been able to bring Pern to its knees. That or perhaps destroyed half of it. Alas fate worked in strange ways, and in this case who was to say whether or not it was self-preservation or something like that? After all the instances where they did get together and create havoc were ones for the record books and Elysia herself was willing to bet that this one would top them all. She couldn’t wait.
The older woman barely resisted the urge to snap playfully at his finger as the brownrider poked at her nose. She did have the good grace however to wait until he had finished speaking before opening her mouth herself. “Hitched and rich. I like the sound of that. We really don’t have to worry too much about marks. Thankfully being Weyrleader pays pretty well and my dear weyrmate is something of a miser. I highly doubt he’d just give me the marks if I asked. He’d probably come up with some bullshit about using my own or something but I know where he keeps them and what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him. Besides, if lady luck smiles on us I can just return what I ‘borrowed’ with interest if necessary.” Elysia was well aware that if S’rei did happen to find out he’d likely have a fit but she was willing to bet there were a few favors she could perform to make him more inclined not to throw too big of a fit. And no, not all those favors were sexual in nature. The woman was willing to bet that her weyrmate would get a bigger kick out of making her clean the weyr herself or something equally ridiculous in nature. Warriors did not sweep floors or make beds thank you very much.
Tossing her dark hair back the rider chuckled. “I would say I could help us on the ring bit too but then I remember that the only joined person I know is pretty much not speaking to me currently and I highly doubt Dmitri would loan me his ring anyway. Nor do I think that I could pry Erilena’s off her unless she was already cold and dead so we may have to improvise or something there.” Hmm she was willing to bet that one of the mandyrs who hoarded such shiny bobbles had a ring or two or maybe even twenty lying around. Perhaps she could coerce Amour into finding some for her. The flit often stole from mandyr hoards in order to gift things to the various shiny gold females in the weyr in the hopes of winning their favor. Not that something like Millieth could be bought off with a ring but trying to tell the flitter that was pretty much completely pointless and Elysia had long since given up on breaking him of most of his quirks.
“So I suppose that leaves our story and the all-important alias doesn’t it?” A thoughtful expression crossed Elysia’s face as she debated. She needed something that fit her look. Currently she was debating wearing a dress that she had commissioned for some special event and then never gotten to actually wear it. It had been sitting in her wardrobe unused as not one event she had taken part in seemed to warrant such a dress. It was emerald green and form fitting cut from some shimmery fabric that clung in all the right places when she moved. Low cut enough to show off a decent amount of cleavage without being too over the top, and showed enough leg to turn heads without being trashy. Pair that with a pair of strappy black heels and the rider was fairly sure that she could get enough second looks and drool puddles to last her a lifetime. Yes that would do. Now she needed a name that would fit the look and was distinctly feminine. Hmmm. Suddenly it came to her like a flash of inspiration. “What do you think of Jolene?” She asked her companion with a catlike smile. “I think it sounds holderish?” Hopefully K’sel would find it easier to come up with a name now that she had a possible one.
Honestly Elysia was more worried about the attitude part then the name. The woman wasn’t used to censoring herself like holder women had to. She couldn’t be as upright in your face demanding and bitchy but she supposed that she could work the passive aggressive angle like no other. She was fairly sure she could tame herself down enough to play spoiled rich woman who had never heard the word no pretty well. “I suppose once we have the names and such down we can come up with a backstory when we actually reach Bitra. I find it more exciting to let that kind of stuff take shape on its own anyway. There’s no point in planning it all out now. I think there is a certain excitement to making it up on the fly don’t you?”
Onyth rumbled softly to Pettahth her eyes whirling in a pleasant green shade. I agree. I do not remember the North really, besides what I can glean from Elysiamine of course. I think it will be good to get a change of scenery Indeed the dark female was rather looking forward to exploring a little on her own. The brown was a good flying partner too. Small enough to perform aerial maneuvers well and fast enough to keep up where other larger browns struggled. Being small had its perks. Furthermore she trusted the brown which was actually saying a lot. He was a wingmate (albeit a secret one) and so of course he held a more special place with her then most did.

There was little in the way of protest from either of the pair as Dmitri stood keeping them tucked to him. Erilena smiled slightly and bid the twins each goodnight, giving them a kiss before her husband left with the pair. Really she should have joined him in tucking them in but she was quite worn out herself and she didn’t have the patience to argue right now should they continue their protests about going to bed early. (Which they were bound to.) Instead she stood and collected the mugs from the cocoa taking them to the kitchen to wash them out. Really they could probably wait but the woman wanted something to occupy her mind and hands for the time being and cleaning always served to be a good distraction from unwelcome thoughts. She could zone out and just concentrate on that and that alone.
Emitre and Dileina each pouted when Dmitri tucked them in but they didn’t protest verbally, simply giving him a slightly betrayed look before allowing him to tuck them in. Harper nosed his way into the room sometime during the middle of the process and settled himself on the rug between their beds with a contented sigh. His tail thumped the ground when Dmitri walked past him to each bed but he didn’t move to follow the tall man. The canine was tired and quite content to sleep here curled on the rug for now. His master seemed like he was in a better mood now anyway. “Goodnight Daddy.” “Night Daddy.” The twins echoed each other as he withdrew before snuggling down in their blankets and closing their eyes. Though they didn’t fall asleep immediately, in fact as soon as their father left the room they started whispering to each other softly. After a short time there was silence however, both of them drifting off one after the other.
Erilena had returned to their bedroom after finishing the dishes and had just finished making the bed when Dmitri slipped in. She straightened and turned thinking to ask him how the twins went down but promptly forgot that as he wrapped his arms around her. Smiling brightly up at him the blonde nodded and it was hard not to almost bounce slightly in place. Her previous weariness seemed to leave Erilena in a rush, for the moment, and it was with clear excitement that she spoke. “Yes. I’m late for the second time in a row. So more or less two months.” Slipping her arms around the harper’s waist her lips found his jawline. “That didn’t take all that long. We’re good at this apparently.” The amusement in the woman’s tone was hard to miss. “Practice makes perfect?” This time she chuckled at her own comment and pulled back just enough so she could see Dmitri’s face. “I’m sorry you didn’t get to come with us to Blossom but I thought it would make a nice surprise for later.”
Erilena didn’t ask her husband if he was happy about the news. He was bound to be. Perhaps not as happy as he had been when they had first found out about the twins but that had been her first pregnancy. It was hard to top the first time anything happened. “Poor Emit really wants a brother. I hope he won’t be too disappointed if it ends up being a girl.” A thought came across her mind then and she couldn’t help voicing it aloud. “Who knows, if it is a girl maybe this time you’ll get your mini Lena complete with my eyes. I already got two with your eyes so I suppose it’s only fair if you get at least one.” She teased even as her lips found the pulse point in his neck and brushed against it gently.
Dmitri still smelled like a mixture of the rain, the trees, and himself. It was an intoxicating mixture. Erilena resisted the urge to take a nibble to see if he tasted as good as he smelled. Nibbling was not conductive to talking if he wanted to talk and chances were he had as much on his mind as she did herself. Distractions could wait. She didn’t want her husband to think that whatever he had on his mind wasn’t more important than such distractions. Because it probably was better to talk about it all now rather than later. Even if part of her did really want to give into temptation, the larger part of Erilena wanted to make sure Dmitri was dealing with all of the sudden emotional news okay. It was admittedly a lot to take in. For anyone. Now she remembered why she was feeling so weary just moments ago.

“Daaaaaaddy. He’s not going to have a tail.” Here Emitre hesitated his nose wrinkling as he turned to look up at his father again. “Right?” It was almost as if he wanted to be reassured about it and Erilena couldn’t help the amused smile that flitted across her lips. They really probably should clear it up for the poor boy instead of teasing him about it, but the woman wasn’t completely sure she was ready for the where babies come from talk yet. Maybe it would be better to distract him from it instead? Only Dmitri seemed ahead of her and had squeezed both twins to him commenting about digging pools for baby dolphins to swim in.
Erilena laughed. “Well you have seven or so months to make a really deep one so I’d say you’ve got some time yet.” She commented in return, her hazel eyes clearly reflecting her own amusement with the entire thing. No the dolphins couldn’t tell her exactly how far along she was but she could deduce that much on her own. She had already missed one cycle and was three days late on the one she was supposed to be having now. She skipped on occasion so that wasn’t all that unusual but when this one had been late she decided that a little day trip to Blossom to find out for sure would be fun. With the added benefit that the twins could share in the whole experience too. This was going to be their brother or sister after all and the woman had been glad that they both were so receptive and excited about the idea. Though they seemed to disagree on one point in particular, which they chose to bring up at that moment.
Squeezing his father back Emitre wrinkled his nose at his father. “Definitely brother and Daddy he’s not really gonna be a dolphin. The dolphins swam with us and touched their noses to momma’s belly and then made all these noises that sounded like baaaaaaabbbyyy.” He did his best to mimic it looking a bit displeased with how it came out but proceeding on anyway. “They didn’t say dolphin baby.” But again he looked uncertain until his sister spoke up. “Even if she is a dolphin we can still keep her right? And put lots of ribbons on her? Harper likes ribbons too but he doesn’t like them as much as girls do.” “It’s a boy Leina.” “Is not Emit.” Erilena sighed and cleared her throat giving them each a mild look which they responded to by sticking their tongues out at one another.
Erilena briefly glanced up at the ceiling willing herself for more patience then she felt at the moment. “I think it’s getting close to bedtime. It’s been a really long day for you two and you look sleepy. Plus grandma Len wants to see you two tomorrow.” “Awww mooooomma.” “Just a little longer?” “Five more minutes?” “We just finished our cocoa.” With that they both turned to look up at their father and wrapped their arms around him. “Daddy can we stay up longer?” “Please?” “I’m not that tired.” “Me either.” Erilena wrinkled her nose at them both. “You two should know by now that asking both of us yields you the same answer.” But it seemed they were not willing to concede that point, instead tugging on Dmitri’s shirt before commenting in unison. “Pleeeeease?”

Erilena wrinkled her nose at her husband when instead of asking about their day he went quiet. Well then. Maybe he didn’t want to…But before she could complete the thought he started talking to Emitre and Dileina. Whoops. Seemed she had jumped to conclusions a bit fast there. A hand went up to rub lightly at a temple. She was thinking too much, letting too much get to her. Part of it was the baby but part of it was the whole day in general. It had been draining.
The woman loved her kids to distraction but dealing with two hyperactive young kids and a dragon all day, shopping, and then coming home only to have an emotional fight with an ex-boyfriend who you happen to randomly run into was exhausting. Add in worrying about how your husband would react, since said ex was also his former best friend, and it was no wonder that she was beginning to develop a killer headache and the urge to lock herself in the bathing room and just soak for hours. Dropping her hand Erilena drained the remainder of her cocoa, privately jealous that she couldn’t have mixed herself something similar to what she had given Dmitri. Not that she liked drinking all that much but in this instance she certainly felt like it would help her relax a little at least.
Emitre pounced upon the question at the exact same time his sister did, both of them speaking rapidly one after the other, finishing the other’s sentence a time or two as they spoke in tandem. “We had lots of fun daddy.” “First we made…” “Muffins. And then we got to fly on Fey.” “Did you know Fey can be really fast when she wants to?” “Blossom is pretty daddy. There’s a biiiiig lake there.” “The dolphins like Fey a lot. She got to play with them and we did too.”
Here both twins paused and turned towards Erilena who smiled and gave a little nod at Emitre. “Go on sweetie. What else did we do?” Blue eyes lighting up he turned to look up at his father putting a hand out towards his sister to forestall her speech. “We got to get in the water with the dolphins. Momma came too and then guess what happened?” Only the little blonde plowed on excitedly before even letting his father begin to answer. “The dolphins made momma pregnant! I’m gonna get a baby brother now.”
Erilena tried hard not to laugh she really did but something of a giggle escaped anyway before she covered her mouth with her hand. Yes. Clearly that was what happened. The magic dolphins had made her pregnant. At the time she hadn’t thought that was how her son would have put it all together and really perhaps she should correct him now but Faranth. It was too funny. Only when she was sure she wasn’t going to spontaneously burst into laughter did she lower her hand and finally turn her attention to Dmitri, wondering at his reaction. Not for a moment did she think it would be a bad reaction. She just hoped that maybe it would chase away whatever lingering somberness he had to him, at least for the next couple of minutes. She could be content with that much.
Apparently she was having a mermaid or something. Who couldn’t be excited about that?

“Do you wanna feel alive?” Dark eyes regarded her Legatus wingmate from under even darker lashes, the type most women would murder for. A catlike smile was offered the man who was leaning against his sandy brown so nonchalantly. A loaded question. But surely Tiger already knew her answer. Or he wouldn’t have voiced it in the first place. Being domestic was just…so droll. Elysia did a well enough job in her role as mother and weyrmate but could anyone blame her for the occasional wild run she had? The greenrider liked to think not. Even if it annoyed S’rei he was bound to forgive her. Furthermore she had a sneaking suspicion that such events privately amused the bronzer as long as she didn’t drag his reputation though the mud with her. Tch. Not that she ever worried about that overly much. Men.
A slender eyebrow rose at the word feline and though he had certainly captured her attention already he had it in spades now. Imagine how fun it would be to annoy that man. Furthermore to covertly find out if those rumors were true. Spying, gambling, alcohol, and who knows what else. If Elysia weren’t in she’d be crazy. Besides wasn’t she just looking for a chance to wear something scandalous again? With a winning smile she reached forward to trail a long manicured nail down the brownrider’s chin. “Mental health day? That sounds like just what the doctor ordered. Of course I’m in. I have the best poker face in all the North, though roulette is also something of an addiction.” Mostly because that one was a game of pure luck and chance and sometimes she liked to test her luck. Who didn’t?
Elysia didn’t even bother mentioning Elias. S’rei was perfectly fine playing mister mom and a note would suffice as a clue to where she had gone. He’s be cooped up in his office anyway for the next few candlemarks and he often picked Elias up from the creche himself. Miguel was more than old enough to take care of himself for a few hours. Thoughtfully she tapped her finger against her lips. “Now I have to decide what to wear.” Though that would depend on what impression they wanted to give wouldn’t it? Dark eyes flicked back to his companion. “So what’s the flavor of the night? Tourists without a clue? Rich landholders? Crafters looking for a break from monotony? Newlyweds out to paint the hold in whatever color we fancy?” There were so many different options and Elysia was pretty sure she could come up with the prefect outfit for each. Either way she wanted heels. Nice heels. And something slinky and tight. Pregnancy had done little to ruin the body she had been graced with. She made well sure of that during and after her pregnancy, and what tiny flaws she would never admit to having were easy enough to cover.
“You must remember that I come alive at night.” She purred and glanced up at Onyth. Oh yes. The dragons. I can hide myself just fine. The dark female replied. I am quite sure that Pettahth and I can find plenty to amuse ourselves without your help. She continued allowing the brown in on the conversation as well. Alright then. Seemed it was settled. All they needed to do was hammer out some of the more intricate details. She would have no problems with meeting K’sel in Bitra once that was accomplished.
Her dark eyes flicked back to her companion a certain excitement building in their dark depths. Had been quite a while since she had last indulged herself, she’d have to make the most of this.

Emitre wrinkled his nose, his blue grey eyes were just a touch darker then his father’s but they were just as expressive and they never seemed to miss a thing. “That seems like an icky way to get immune.” Almost as an afterthought he added, “So only momma’s cooties are safe cause she’s my momma.” That actually made sense. He didn’t get the dumb from her cooties. Though he wasn’t so sure his father was completely immune from his mother’s cooties even if he claimed he was. He’d seen his dad get the dumb sometimes after they kissed. Though usually that was when they did the icky type of kissing. Making a face at that thought he went back to his cocoa. It was yummy and a lot better than continuing to talk of cooties.
Dileina listened attentively to her father her head rested against his side while she watched her brother. Silly Emit. Her father’s voice was fun to listen to as it reverberated through his rib cage. It was actually more comforting then the warm cocoa. She disliked seeing anyone in her family sad. She was much like her mother that way. Hugs had seemed to help Daddy for now so that was all Dileina cared about in the moment. The girl really didn’t have anything to add to what her brother had said anyway. She was perfectly content to let the bolder Emitre be her voice, unless she really had something to say. He knew her better than anyone anyway. They had spent almost every waking moment together since they were born after all. Rarely were they ever apart. She liked it that way.
Erilena smiled in slight amusement at Dmitri when he answered Emitre, though she was fairly certain he hadn’t seen it. Trust him to find a way to say the truth without actually voicing why it made it difficult for them to be parents if they were worried about so called cooties. Which in turn reminded her…She still hadn’t told him. Her grip tightened around her cup. Should tell him. But…it still didn’t feel like the right time and she had promised Emitre he could tell his father, wouldn’t be quite right if she went back on that promise. Still...was there ever a right time for these sort of things? Even back when she found out she was pregnant with the twins they were still occupied by wasteland and the future was uncertain. Certainly not the best time to tell your brand new husband you were pregnant despite having been between. This time they had been trying.
A contemplative glance was given her son as Erilena sipped her cocoa. Hmm. Finally when she spoke it was to her husband. “Aren’t you curious as to what we did all day?” It was probably better to tell him sooner rather than later, and maybe it would give him something not R’ven to think about.

He remembers. Is that really surprising? You are very memorable. I know. Don’t let it go to your head. The conversation was over in moments and Er’ani’s dark eyes glittered with mirth in the fading sunset light. “Why swimming naked with dolphins of course.” He really couldn’t really resist the quip. Really though that wasn’t a half bad idea. It might be fun. Would be even more fun if he had someone to swim with. Idly he wondered if Cainith could swim or if the large guy would sink like a very big rock hmmm. A thoughtful glance was given the large man. How likely was it that he could convince the large handler to swim naked with dolphins? Probably not very likely. Challenge accepted.
Lketh rumbled a quiet greeting to the wher as he finally settled to all fours on the sand his pale hide seeing awash with fire for a moment as the sun continued to slip down the horizon and the twin moons started to rise. His eyes would have rolled at his bonded’s thoughts had that been physically capable but as it was not he simply huffed out the breath he had been holding and passed along a feeling of exasperation to his life partner. Really if his rider put half of that enthusiasm into work he’d turn more heads in awe then he did in disapproval. Er’ani ignored him.
“Where are you off to anyway?” The albino rider couldn’t help but ask as he slipped down the white dragon’s shoulder to land heavily on the sands. Straightening he grinned. “You have time to chat with an old friend? You look good!” Be careful you may scare away your quarry if your grin hasn’t already. Shhhh Lketh you’ll scare it you will. “Surely you aren’t so busy as to not have a few moments to let me know how things have been treating you here. Beautiful hold Blossom is.”

There a smile. An actual genuine one. Sure it was in response to the kids but that’s all Erilena had wanted, to see an actual smile on Dmitri’s face. He could be as broody as he wanted, as long as she could be sure that he was going to be okay. That he knew there were people who loved him and needed him right here. She well knew the handler had issues with abandonment and no doubt this whole situation was pricking at those. But she wasn’t going anywhere. Neither were the kids. They adored him. Obviously from the way they were both excitedly hugging him. She could tell they had been a little disappointed when they woke up and he wasn’t there. It was the twin’s favorite things, thundering down the hall to throw themselves at Dmitri when he got home from work or patrol. Sometimes Erilena joined them, if only to force him to juggle them all and because it made her feel not quite so old. He was big enough to handle it and she thought he secretly loved their enthusiasm.
A wrinkle of her nose greeted his comment about the alcohol and she almost added a wink but an expression crossed his face and the woman never completed the expression. Not that it mattered because Emitre’s comment had successfully distracted her husband. For now anyway. Wrinkling his nose at his father the boy tried to fix his hair only really succeeding in making it more messy. “Really? How did you get imm…une. Immune? What does that mean?” Honestly he was curious as to what that meant and how that was possible. Was immune a cure for cooties? How? Unless... “Is it because you sleep naked with momma like grandpa S'rei does with grandma Elysia? Does that make you immune? Cause otherwise grandpa S’rei has lots of cooties.” Dileina giggled and then reached across her father to nudge her brother. “Emit. That was supposed to be a secret. Remember? Grandma said so.” She stage whispered though Erilena wasn’t quite sure her daughter understood that a stage whisper was supposed to be quiet. An amused and slightly exasperated expression crossed her face. “Grandma Elysia and secrets why am I not surprised.”
Slipping down to sit on the edge of the bed she handed the twins their cocoa, reminding them to be careful not to spill, before letting Dmitri answer that question. He was good at these kinds of things. Better then she usually was at in in her opinion. She never knew what to say and he normally came up with something. Even if it was brutally honest he usually found a way to make it kid friendly. Usually. When the kids seemed to have their cocoa well in hand Erilena handed Dmitri his and picked up her own mug. One hand moved to stroke Harper’s head when the dog belly crawled to the end of the bed and eyed her in concern. “You can stay.” She mumbled to the canine, which gently licked her palm and settled there his tail slowly wagging.
The woman’s attention then moved back to her husband and children, her hand moving to rest on Dmitri’s leg. With both kids currently huddled to either side of him there wasn’t much room for her unless Erilena climbed into her husband’s lap or something. Which, though she wouldn’t be opposed to it, she wasn’t quite sure how comfortable that would make him currently. Regardless she would have plenty of time to be close and talk to him later after the kids finished their cocoa. Warm milk always made them sleepy. Maybe it was a little tricky but they fought bedtime way to much sometimes. Especially when their sleep schedule was off after visiting their grandparents.
