You’re an idiot. But you still love me. Because I am forced to. Liar. I’m surprised she didn’t skin you. Lucky I am. Okay so operation steal Kalierre’s cane hadn’t been a success. In fact all Sel’n seemed to have managed to do was piss her off royally. Well maybe with any luck she would be over it by the time he limped in for the night shift he was assigned. Not that he was much help as a gimp. All he did was stand around and annoy her. More fun for him than her he supposed. Ah well at least Kali still remained pretty much his one and only friend it seemed. Besides me. Hey you're stuck with me remember? Oh yeah right.
Leaning heavily on the cane he had borrowed from he infirmary the brownrider stared out over the weyrling training field, Vanity perched on his shoulder. “What do you think harpy? Can we do this?” Can do anything. Picked best. Silly cripplemine. Should know this. Chuckling Sel’n reached up to trail one finger down her emerald back. “Yes you need to remind me more often it seems. We’ll show them all won’t we pet.” Yesssss. I hope you know what you are doing. These new wing members will be children. You can’t treat them like they are not. Says you. None of them are that young. Besides. They have to learn one way or another. Fighting is something they won’t be able to avoid forever. And Feyrianth? Craivaruth? I have a plan for those pairs. I see. And you are positive of this? All of it? Yes. You know I am behind you no matter what you choose to do Selarin my love. Still even I am worried. Don’t be. It will be fine. Trust me.
Upon his ledge the large brown rumbled and looked out over the canyon. Bizarre it was. Like his had been suddenly possessed by this confidence that had for turns been lacking. Conviction he called it. Kaaoloth was trying not to get his hopes up. Just in case. It had been awhile since his had led a wing. Not a real wing and not since Fort. Perhaps. Perhaps this was what he needed.
With a snort of determination Sel’n pounded his cane into the ground and ended up leaning a bit to far right. With Vanity’s shriek as his only warning Sel’n flailed and, unable to keep his balance with his injured knee, ended up on the ground cane falling useless at his side. “Sharding Faranth.” Chirping the green mandyr sat upon his chest frilling at him as the man starting laughing. Just his luck. Nice to know Faranth still had a sense of humor.

There is a man outside...I don't think he's trying to hide, An almost white blue commented in his typical rhyming speech. "Good one Dhav. I wonder if I couldn't find someone to teach you actual good rhyming," she told her dragon, mentally flicking him. He grumbled at her as she shoved a couple more things in her bags. That's not very nice, to make fun of my vice. The blue's tone was amused and poking fun at the both of them. Jazz laughed and slung the bag over her shoulder.
It was time to move out of the barracks. It was kind of odd for the blueweyrling to have her own place. She had never lived completely alone. Well, not that the weyr would be all that lonely with a bunch of other weyrs nearby but she'd gotten used to having a roommate. Especially as cool a roommate as Tenlie. Glasscrafting? Totally awesome. She knew she couldn't room in the barracks forever though. Dhavalth was getting too big for their room. Just before leaving their room the blue spoke again from where he was lounging outside, The man is laughing now, it really is enough to wow...
Jazz snorted as she got outside and saw a man collapsed on the ground at the nearest training field. "Wow...." What did I say you'd do? And you did so! "That so doesn't work Dhav." He didn't grace her with an answer. Perhaps thinking it over? Hmm. She ended up shaking her head and wandering over to the collapsed man out of curiosity. "Well, if it isn't Sel'n!" She caleld out loud enough for him to hear. She still remembered him being their first teacher though he hadn't lasted long.

Eyes turned up towards the clouds above Sel’n examined them thoughtfully while Vanity continued to frill at him from her perch on his chest. Insane be now. Need meds. Oh woe me. Stuck to cripple and insane. Fall break something then be useless. Already broke. Kaaoloth declined comment but his amusement at the situation came in waves. It only served to strengthen the older rider’s laughter. “Yes that’s it harpy. I am insane. Must be. Of course that is the answer. Why hadn’t I thought of that before?” Told you broke. Need fixed. “I’m afraid it might take more than just you to ‘fix’ me darling.” All lords runners and all lords men? Her reference to an old children’s rhyme had the brownrider laughing. At least until he heard his name.
His laughter interrupted Sel’n quickly sat up his blue eyes narrowing on the figure who hailed him and then softening a bit. “Ah Jazheera!” Reaching for his cane and cupping a hand around Vanity who had begun to frill he struggled to his feet. With a slight smile he looked her up and down. “Suppose I should have come see you all before now. How are lessons going?” The older rider’s voice was friendly enough even with Vanity spitting from upon his shoulder. Nasty. Go away. The green mandyr was not friendly to most females and small or not this one was definitely a female. Plus she had taken her bonded’s attention away from her. Two very big and unforgivable mistakes. With a hiss Vanity made to lunge only to be snatched out of the air by the brownrider. With a hiss she sank her tiny teeth into his thumb.
Almost lazily the older man pinched the mandyr behind her head and worked her teeth out of his skin. All the while he smiled almost lazily at the young bluerider. “Moving out finally eh? You’ll find the weyrs a lot better. Roomier to. I trust Dhavalth is excited?” How old where this particular bunch now? At least nine months if they where beginning to move out. How time flew. In truth Sel’n missed being a Weyrlingmaster. It was a shame that it had ended how it had. No one to blame but himself though. Like normal. It was alright though. This time there would be no fuck ups. The brownrider was determined that this time he would succeed. If only to prove to the nay sayers that there was still some use left in him.

Jazheera was curious about what Sel'n had been laughing about and would have asked about it (Privacy? Who cares!) if not for the fact that her ex-Weyrlingmaster launched immediately into conversation. It was a pleasant change of pace from some of the people at the weyr. She tsked softly as she got closer and he stood up. Him sitting down was just fine. Now she had to look up! Sel'n wasn't short either. She smiled up at him all the same and nodded. "Yes, you should have," she said mock severely.
"And lessons are going...okay. We just recently lost some...during the first between lesson." She frowned and looked down briefly, remembering the fear of those moments. She snorted and looked back up. "We got through okay I suppose." There wasn't any use dwelling on it. Instead she preferred to count herself lucky that Ruliana and Tenlie - her two friends from her class - were still alive and well. As for Sel'n's 'mandyr she flashed it a quick smile and said, "Hell to you too, gorgeous." She was completely unphased by the open hostility.
Subconsciously she shifted her bags as moving out was mentioned and she grinned impishly. "Yeah. A place all my own. Kinda hard to wrap my head around though. As for Dhav...he's ecstatic. Although I think he's going to miss cuddling up with Rajnith as often as he can in the barracks." Cue grumbling in her mind. "Would you like to see him? He's just lounging around at the moment." She wouldn't take offense if he didn't want to see him. Dhavalth had no problems talking directly to people other than her. If spoken to he would speak back pretty much without fail. A bit like Jazz herself.

Sel’n offered the short bluerider a light smile. Teasing him she was. In truth he did feel a little bad about not even coming to see how his previous class was doing. But that couldn’t be helped now could it? Almost lazily he smiled down at Jazheera as the girl continued. As she continued on about lessons the smile turned into a mild frown his eyes reflecting a quiet sadness. He had heard about those that had been lost between. Hard not to.
Privately he had mourned for each and every one of those lost as had Kaaoloth. They hadn’t had the class long no but all the same both parts of the brownpair cared. Sad blue eyes looked down at the young bluerider before him. Sel’n privately glad that M’ta’s sister was not counted among those who had perished. “I’m sorry. I had heard. Those of you who made it are to be congratulated. It’s hard, but these things do happen. Perhaps as a class it will bring you closer. Everything they say happens for a reason. Even if at times we find ourselves doubting.” Flashing her a warmer smile he gave Vanity a silent warning.
The warning however was not needed. The compliment directed towards her mollified the mandyr a bit and she crooned to Jazz flicking her frill outwards. Smart this female was to see her beauty. Perhaps she wasn’t so bad after all. Slowly and demurely Vanity began to preen eyes still on the bluerider. Smart this one. See beauty. Acceptable. she commented to hers privately. As long as this female did not steal her bonded’s attention for too long Vanity could tolerate her presence. Chuckling Sel’n stroked a finger lightly down the mandyr’s back. “You’ve met her approval congratulations. She normally flings insults but you’ve seem to know the right way to handle her.” He gave the girl a conspiratorial wink and rubbed one of the mandyr's eyelids softly before dropping his hand.
Eyes shifting automatically to try and catch a glimpse of the blue the brownrider’s gaze returned to Jazheera. “I’d love to see him again. He’s probably gotten quite big.” Smiling down at the young woman he tapped his cane on the ground and silently warned Vanity to behave herself. “Kaaoloth says that one day Dhavalth and he will have to go flying together. He‘d come himself I am sure, but he is currently being quite the lazy ass.” I am not. The sun just feels very good currently. Like I said. Lazy ass. “How old is he now?” Sel’n queried politely. If there was one thing he knew about weyrlings it was that almost all of them loved a chance to talk about their dragons.

Jazheera realized belatedly that Sel'n could have chosen to take offence at her joking and she was glad he hadn't. For the most part she didn't care to sugar-coat the truth but joking was a different matter. She could and sometimes did cross the line. She didn't necessarily mean to but it did happen. His frown at her words made her smile weakly. He probably - hopefully - felt something for her lost classmates. She'd be a little troubled if he didn't. His words wiped any doubt from her mind.
She could well have been reading into his words or expression too much but she preferred to believe otherwise. Why offer any comforting words if he didn't care? "Perhaps so. I like to believe that since we made it through that it won't happen to anyone else from my class." To think of more of her class lost in between...she didn't like it. How many bodies littered that transitory place? She shuddered slightly at her morbid thoughts and tried to bring her brain back to present day. The warm sunshine on a somewhat chilly day helped warm her thoughts.
The croon from Sel'n's green let Jazz know that she had picked her words well...even if she hadn't expected it to work. Flattery wasn't needed on her own 'mandyr so she was constantly learning by experiences with other peoples' 'mandyrs. She did know that it worked on some, if not most, 'mandyrs though. She grinned back at the brownrider innocently. Wasn't deliberate at all~! Nope, nope. "My own is curiously unlike all the rumours about 'mandyrs," she commented off-handedly. "So I'm learning about others as I go along."
As soon as the word 'love' came out of Sel'n's mouth Jazz's eyes got the far-away look people got when speaking mentally to a mindmate. She had always been able to pay attention to more than one thing at once though. Dhav, love, would you please come say hi? Even as she said that she was lsitening to her ex-Weyrlingmaster and was able to easily respond. "Oh yes, he's gotten big alright. Thankfully not as big as Kaaoloth - too much hide to oil for my tastes - but big enough." She smiled fondly and counted back the months to answer Sel'n's question. "Nine months now."
A rush of air and the shadow on the ground announced the arrival of Dhavalth if his almost white form did not. He landed neatly and crooned pleasantly. I am glad to see you old master, though I wish the time between had gone faster. "He's as friendly as ever," she commented dryly. That he was still up to his rhymes went unsaid; Sel'n had heard that first hand. And..."By old he doesn't mean your age." Dhavalth sometimes put his feet in his mouth too.

Sel’n chuckled briefly as Kaaoloth was mentioned. “Yes Kaaoloth is rather large for a brown.” Small bronze sized actually, which was enormous for a brown and yes it was a horribly large amount to hide to deal with. Luckily the weyrbrats where always willing to help for the simple chance of touching a dragon and the brown was beyond patient with children and the like. So really in all actuality it wasn’t that bad. It was the bronze riders he felt sorry for. So much hide and most bronzes where to prideful to allow any but theirs to deal with them. Pity for them. Just left Kaaoloth and the others with more admirers for their tolerance.
Almost idly Sel’n leaned on his cane as he watched the pale blue approach. Right pretty beast he was and well formed. Hepaticath and Ciceroth had turned out a quite lovely clutch. A smile lit up his features as he limped over to the almost white blue. Reaching up he placed a hand on the soft muzzle and stroked down it. “Hello to you to Dhavalth. It has been far to long. My apologies friend.” Still smiling he looked down at Jazheera. “Believe me he’s better off being friendly. Might be an annoyance at times but it makes things much easier in the long run.”
Vanity upon his shoulder frilled at the blue dragon. Hello bluebeast. Leaping off Sel’n she glided to the dragon’s muzzle and from there scampered up to a head knob. Perching there she crooned. Oh look at her! Didn’t his pale hide make hers look even more vibrant? Pretty~ Was her only comment it was up to the interrupter to decide just who she was talking about.
Rolling his eyes up at Vanity and giving a snort the older rider winked at Jazz. “Well even if he did call me old it’s not like it isn’t a bit true. May be older but I’m not that old yet.” Although the knee was taking longer to heal than it would have turns ago. Right pain that was. Hand leaving the blue’s muzzle Sel’n cleared his throat. “Bet he’s a right beauty in the air. Took Kaaoloth turns to learn how to move his bulk around properly I almost envy you riders with smaller dragons.” Almost. The brownrider still wouldn’t trade Kaaoloth for anything. No even with three legs his brown was still perfect. And you call me biased~

"'Rather large'? He's huge," Jazz commented with a soft chuckle. "Then again, everything seems just that much bigger to me." She had no problems with her height as it was. There were some things only she could do, just as there were only some things that tall people could do. Didn't make her any less glad that Dhavalth was not a ginormous dragon. He seemed to agree as well...though she'd caught him lamenting that blues couldn't catch queens. She didn't remember when he got the strange fascination with siring young but it had become a bit of an issue.
Jazheera smiled at the interaction between Sel'n and Dhavalth. So far, so good. The blue was behaving and the blueweyrling always liked it when others were friendly with her dragon. He liked the attention and she was happy if he was. Well, most of the time. Despite agreeing on most things the two were still each their own 'person.' Dhavalth exhaled softly and nodded slightly to indicate that he either agreed or was accepting the apology. Jazz's smile grew as she said, "I suppose so. And friendly is better than him trying to eat people."
It was a fear she had prior to Impressing. Holdbred are naturally afraid of dragons, Northerners especially. She felt guilty every now and again when she remembered she used to think dragons were dumb beasts. At the very least she knew better now. Dhavalth was mildly surprised to be addressed by the salamandyr. As it scampered up to one of his headknobs he tilted his head slowly, curiously. Hello my little fellow. He crooned at the compliment. It didn't much matter who it was directed to. Both ways it was true, no?
Jazz grinned and shook her head. Draconids in general were funny creatures. What Sel'n admitted was...true enough she supposed. A few turns ago and she'd have thought him old. She was a bit older and mature now though. The topic came back to her dragon and she sighed. "He's a beauty alright but he's having a bit of trouble with those wings of his. We're working on it though, and when we get it to work...I don't know, he's gonna test my courage with some of his stunts." Dhavalth was flexible to say the least. Jazz worried about some of the things he'd be capable of if he could get those wings to work the way he wanted.
Dhavalth rumbled slightly at His' worry. If you ever fell, that would mean I cannot fly well, he said confidently. Evidently the fact that he did fly well didn't need to be said. Or perhaps he just couldn't think of a rhyme. Hmm. He lowered his head slightly to gaze at Sel'n a little closer. Since you are quite fine, would you like to Fly Mine? "Dhavalth!" Jazz exclaimed in surprised embarrassment. The blue wasn't even old enough for such things! But if he was asking about it...that meant he'd found out how human babies were made. Faranth help her.

Sel’n smiled softly at Jazheera as she made a comment about her height. His blue eyes danced with a small bit of mirth as he responded. “Size wasn’t everything. Despite what some people will have you believe.” Chuckling softly at some private thought he brought his hand back up to scratch gently at a pale eye ridge. “Yes eating people is not recommended. Not only do we taste nasty but we are certain to give you indigestion. You will remember that won’t you Dhavalth?” Eyeing Vanity he gave her a silent warning to behave the green mandyr turning her eyes towards her bonded and frilling in defiance as per her normal reaction. Ignoring her always worked best and so the older rider simply turned back to the weyrling.
Vanity crooned softly arching her back up against Dhavalth’s head knob much like a feline. Silly blue beast. Is not fellow. Is Greenqueen. Bestest female weyr has. Member this. Scampering to the middle of the pale dragon’s head she stuck a regal pose tail wrapping about her haunches and frill at full extension as she looked down upon the less important humans. Good slaves are they no? She asked her mount privately. Oh she quite liked this one. He was better than the brown beast. This one displayed her hide quite marvelously.
The ex Weyrlingmaster gave Jazheera a bright smile. “Well keep working. I’m sure you two will be an asset to any wing you get drafted into.” Limping around to Dhavalth’s side he took a few steps back to get a better profile on the blue. “Keep working and I’m sure you’ll get into a rhythm. He’s formed beautifully. Not as heavily muscled as some blue’s but he’s got whipcord strength. You’ll be surprised what he can accomplish when he finally get’s a feel for his abilities.” Grinning he winked at Jazheera. “When he does you’ll have to take me for a ride. Kaaoloth can’t pull off some to the stunts these blue’s can and it’s thrill I don’t get to experience often. That is if neither of you object.” Stepping back towards the blueweyrling the older rider watched as Dhavalth lowered his head, his hand coming up to stroke the soft pale muzzle.
The words the blue offered had Sel’n’s eyes widening and he immediately had to bite his tongue to keep from laughing outwardly. He didn’t want to offend Jazheera after all, although at this point she looked more embarrassed than anything else. Chuckling softly the brownrider finally spoke. “From the mouths of babes….” Winking at the small female he continued, speaking directly to the blue. “Fine? That’s probably the first time I’ve been called that in years. Unfortunately my friend, I’ll likely have to take a rain check. You see not only am I terribly busy but you and yours are as well. I think you should get your flying under control before you worry about flight for yours. Believe me later on down the road she will have plenty of time for such things.”
Yes pregnancy while still a weyrling, while not exactly frowned upon, was not exactly encouraged of wanted. Plenty of time for that further down the road after all. Besides Dhavalth really wasn’t even old enough yet. The things some dragons got into their heads…… He couldn’t remember if Kaaoloth had ever been that silly. I would think not. Smiling Sel’n responded. Seems as if we are both plagued by memory loss.
