Two left? Well, that definitely lowered chances for those remaining. He didn't want to lessen anyone's chances, really. But the firelizards would choose who they chose. He had come into this expecting a fifty-fifty chance and he and some others would walk away from this, only to try next time. He wondered if anyone else would be disappointed by that. There were enough hatchings of those 'mandyrs and firelizards that he knew most people would end up with one or the other--if they wanted them. So far he hadn't bothered attending hatchings much. T'lor kept insisting he start. That he needed to Impress something to keep him company. Well, if T'lor said so...maybe there was a slight chance he was right? Mihkal didn't know. Still, fifty-fifty.
He watched the brown come tumbling out of the blue dragon's mouth. He was close enough to see a green firelizard had latched on to the blue's tongue and almost laughed at the irony of it. The creature inside the mouth, biting the tongue? Well, it seemed to do the trick, anyhow. It had Impressed, after all. He glanced at the girl who had gotten the bronze for a moment before looking back to the brown. Where would he go? Only he seemed to be heading not for anyone there, but looking further...? Where would it go, then? And what about the remaining firelizard?
It answered one question as it darted out of the blue's mouth. The remaining firelizard was a stunning gold. Well, didn't that beat all. Still, whom it would choose was undecided, as of yet.
xXx
Alex watched as the bronze Impressed to the friendly girl she'd met in the barracks common room. Well, she would treat it great and it was a lucky Impression. There went the other green, to another person. Two left, that was it? Shards if that didn't suck. The brown who hatched out was a nice pale shade. Didn't seem to be noticing the people around it though. Leaving only one, if it went to someone near the back. Maybe she'd not gotten here soon enough. But there were only so many eggs and so many people. Sometimes it was almost easier to buy on than to Impress one. She hadn't been here long enough to know how frequently firelizards hatched. Being here made her want one though. She was fascinated by that creature Nabrik had. Lots of people around the Weyrs had one. Salamandyrs, they were called. They seemed very intelligent and yet a handful.
One left. It was a bigger egg, but she'd not gotten a very good look at it. Not before the blue had snatched it and the other three up in its mouth. Then, out shot a streak of gold. Well, someone else would get lucky today. It looked like it was telling off the blue and Alex had to smirk at it. Lots of fire in that little creature. She had to admire it, telling off a dragon much larger than it was. She watched it, and also the brown though it still wasn't paying attention to her or anyone around her. She didn't want to rule it out, but probably it had chosen someone already. The gold was the last one really left then. Didn't hurt to hope--a little--that she wouldn't walk away without a firelizard. But also there were a lot of those who would. So, which way would the little creature go, then?

Yes, Mort decided, the bronze dragon might have been loud, and unwittingly unfair, but he certainly managed to get all the other dragons sorted out into some semblance of order. While he was normally the first advocate of chaos, in this situation he felt that maybe a little clam would be a good thing too, if anything too much chaos might just scare off the very hatchlings it was centred around.
Mort’s eye’s squeezed nearly shut as the egg thief slipped past the multi winged green and flopped down in front of a blonde lady who’d been following him and trying to gain his attention. That was fairly close, Mort had been sure she was going to be squished for sure then.
Oh, ouch, that looked painful. Mort winced in sympathy as the dragon extended his tongue to reveal a green clinging to it by her teeth, and a bronze clinging to him. Fortunately for the poor dragon (he must regret his little trick now with those two hanging onto his tongue) the bronze quickly decided to leave, first screaming at the woman he’d been presented to on the dragon’s tongue, then apparently choosing a different female from the crowd. Eventually the green, too, let go of the dragon and vanished, either to find her new bonded or to go wild. Either way it seemed a dragon tongue was not a satisfactory meal for a newly hatched firelizard.
Just as Mort began to wonder what had become of the other two eggs a bright flash of colour shot out from the blue dragon’s maw. A gold? How adorable! Mort certainly hoped his dragon would be that adorable when he got her. Oh and there was the last hatchling, safe on the ground, what a relief that must be for everyone. As the little brown vanished from his view Mort found himself free to concentrate on the gold hatchling, who was now scolding the egg thief. Adorable!

Ekarth emitted a slight cough as the gold's wings brushed along the inside of his mouth. He was tempted to snap his jaws shut – but Serissa's hand was near his tongue so he refrained. Didn't want to end up with a princess with only one hand. All of them felt gone, except the one that had fallen.. couldn't see him too well against the sand. Ekarth didn't much care either. His interest more on the lovely woman standing between his forelegs. The positioning done with intention in mind..
He tongue swept up over his nose to be rid of the squawking gold. Afterwards he made a show of chewing up the remaining egg shells to grate the nerves on those still worried about possible fire lizard spawn in his mouth. Ildyth earned a small croon, Ekarth looking back at their tails and purposely curling his inward. My tail iss sshorter than yourss. He returned, eyes whirling blue in amusement. His claws came up out of the sand, curling inward to protectively coil legs and neck around Serissa. And I have a rider, you do not.
Ba'sun felt the peculiar drift of touch along his mind, but at the moment he was doing his best to tone out Ekarth's peculiarities to focus his attention on the weyrleader that might try to throttle him where he stood. A pressure lighted on his shoulder, and without thinking about it Ba'sun lifted a hand to brush the green off. Only to have a set of needle-like teeth clamp down on the skin between finger and thumb. "Ah!"
Reaction was just that, his arm trying to pull away or flick the creature aside. Instead the green remained claimed on her prize, dangling from his hand when he held it up for inspection. From around the mouthful and spots of blood she crooned happily to her chosen mindmate. Snorting, Ba'sun held the green up higher to let Miguel see the result. "This is what eats a sand monster!"
Ever so helpfully, Ekarth watched with unbridled amusement, tacking on to Ildyth. And now I have a little one too.

The Bloody Mary Gold shrieked at Ekarth when he tried to lick her and then with a quick flick of her tail flung herself skyward. Eyes whirling in embarrassed tones she blinked at all the people staring at her. To many people. With a demur and yet somehow annoyed chirp she whipped her skinny frame around and made a beeline for S’rei. Buzzing the Weyrleader’s head the Bloody Mary Gold gave a shriek to draw attention to the man. Pay attention to the big angry one not a little thing like her. Instantly before anyone could retaliate she blinked between and hovered behind Mortanyal’s head. There hidden.
The Coriolis Effect Brown took his sweet time making his way down the beach. Every so often he would stop to examine something sticking out of the sand and finding it uninteresting continued on his way. He kept this up until he was in front of Mi’rah and C’zan. Tilting his head he picked up a stone that lay right in front of the bluerider. Chirping in victory the Coriolis Effect Brown thrust the stone at C’zan. Oh looooooook. Loooook He had found the most perfect stone. Did his think it would roll? Oh by the way he was terribly hungry and food would be delightful. In fact his should hurry and get him some.
The Bloody Mary Gold chirped sweetly to Mort as she hovered in place. Look here she was. She tricked them all didn’t she? He should get rid of those horrible things in his hair. They drew far too much attention. This was not a good thing. With a sudden tail flick she looped around his head and then landed on his shoulder. Wings half mantled she crooned. Feed her please? That would be lovely.
Erilena gave a brief glance around and mentally counted each flit. All six remaining seemed to have impressed. A sigh of relief left her, and she gave a small soft smile to Miguel before she turned back to S’rei. Whatever he wanted to talk to her about probably wasn’t good and the greenrider just wanted it over with so she could bury the dead. Someone had to. No way Erilena was going to let them rot in the sun. They deserved a decent burial, wild or not.

Bloody Mary Gold Name- Color- Gold (#ffce14 | #ddb73c | #ffaa1f) Impressed to- Mortanyal
Physical Appearance-
This queen is certainly that – a queen, and her size emphasizes that clearly, for the firelizard is no small presence. Quite possibly the largest queen firelizard at Selenitas, she is, in length, nothing short of impressive. However, instead of being beautifully slender or frighteningly muscular, the gold is…positively emaciated. Skinny to the point of each rib being visible and, indeed, able to be felt, each one an individual bump beneath her hide, no amount of feeding will permanently help this gold gain weight. Oh, temporarily, yes – and indeed, stuffing as much food as is possible into her will result in a very swollen little queen – but never permanently. With huge wings that have a tendency to crumple up and fall all over the place and a slightly too large head, possibly the best way to describe the firelizard is – sickly. Large, but sickly.
In color, however, this queen is nothing short of vibrant. A bright, untarnished liquid gold cascades across her hide, shimmering sparkles dancing down her wings and the line of her spine. A darker bronze shade curls around her eyes like a mask, emphasizing their size and giving the appearance of bags beneath them constantly, before it arches up as if painted to coil around both head knobs. The same bronze touches on each of the ridges on her neck and tail, coloring the very tip with a smear of darkness. On all four paws and in inconspicuous freckles on her muzzle and neck is a bright shade of orange-gold – as if she has stepped in paint and splashed it across herself.
Personality-
A very…strange creature is this gold. It’s rare she chooses to occupy the limelight, regardless of where she goes. Indeed, the only time that she will be happy at the center of attention is when she Rises. All other times, she prefers to lurk just out of sight. Rare is it that she will cling to her Bonded – chances are they will see her only for food and oiling, and sometimes not even that if the queen can find someone else to do it. Fiercely independent is the queen – but call for her and she will invariably come. Simply because she has a mile-wide independent streak by no means indicates that she is anything short of completely attuned to the needs of Hers.
Typically unerringly polite and quiet, the gold does have a temper. She hates those that mistreat their pets or talk badly of them, be they firelizard or even Salamandyr – for the queen actually doesn’t mind Salamandyrs at all and can even find them amusing – and she will scold very loudly at any who abuse (be it verbal, mental, or physical) their pets. Fussy and overprotective of her babies, the firelizard will have a definite emotional connection with all of her offspring; they will find themselves a mother that watches over them quietly and from a distance, and swoops in only when necessary. She recognizes that not all of them will stand for being coddled – she does. But they are her babies, and always will be.
Coriolis Effect Brown Name- Color- Brown D5C76F, 663300 Impressed to- C’zan
Physical Appearance:
This brown isn’t your stereotypical muscled large brown. Large he is. But not in the ways one would expect. Instead this brown is downright chubby. Round even might be an accurate word. A thick layer of fat covers his frame. So much in fact that when he walks he will waddle horribly. Exercise might help this but the brown will certainly never be what you can call skinny. In frame he is large boned and his will be surprised at the power he can show when it is needed. Over large wings help support his weight and while he will never win and prizes for aerial prowess he certainly can show a surprising amount of stamina. His face is also chubby and round and it gives him a cherub like appearance that is surprisingly childlike and endearing.
In coloration he is quite pale. A soft almost tan shade covers him from nose to tip. A few markings break up the uniform color however. Covering his left eye is a perfect chocolate spot. The perfect circle. Like a terran raccoon rings start at the base of his tail and continue on down to the very tip. A spattering of chocolate freckles cover the bridge of his muzzle and one large perfectly round spot can also be found smack dab in the middle of his side. All in all he gives over a very cute and cuddly appearance.
Personality:
Unfortunately this brown isn’t really as cute and cuddly as his appearance suggests. In fact he is downright cold most of the time. He comes to his only when he needs something and for little else. He may tolerate short bursts of affection for awhile but it seems they never last quite long enough. A pat here a treat there. That’s all he really cares to stick around for. There are far too many things to collect you see. This male has an obsession for all things circular in nature. Anything even remotely resembling a circle is looked at turned over, tested for ability to roll and then prompt taken between to a unknown location. Unknown to any other human that is. Humans are thieves you see. Always trying to take his beautiful circular possessions.
In fact this flitter is perfectly content to chatter to other flitters and mandyrs about his ‘collection’. He might even show them it. But woe betide the fool that tires to touch or take anything. Looking only please and thank you. The brown will spend hours playing amongst his collection of round things. Rolling them and bouncing them for hours and hours and having oh so much fun! Strangely this firelizard also makes a habit of flying in a circle. Unfortunately this will make him quite dizzy obviously, and from time to time it will not be uncommon for him to smack into a wall or crash into the back of someone’s head. Chirps of apology always follow such collisions before the brown happily goes on his way. The brown is not mean by any stretch of the imagination. Nope he is just a tad obsessed. In matters of rising he will purposely seek out the chubbiest females to flirt with and chase. They are beautiful you see. The bounce they exhibit lovely to behold. Skinny or slim rising female firelizards will be utterly ignored. Nope only the chubby girls of the weyr gain any attention from him at all.

Mort had to laugh, a soft boyish giggle, at the offence the newly hatched gold took at the dragon’s attempt to lick her off his nose. Not that he could blame her, dragons did have very long tongues and she’d probably had rather too close a look at that particular blue’s. The gold took wing and headed directly for… the apparently furious bronzerider? Whyever would she do that when so many other people would welcome her wholeheartedly? But to Mort’s surprise she shrieked and blinked away somewhere. Was she wild now like her dam?
It seemed the green he’d lost hadn’t gone wild, Mort noticed. She was attached by her teeth to another man, who judging by the look on his face as he approached the moody bronzerider, was probably Ba’sun. Lucky him…
A chirp behind him drew Mort’s attention away from the riders. That sounded very close. That turned out to be because it was very close, the vanishing gold hatchling was right behind his head, and very pleased with herself she seemed too. Well, she was right, she had managed to fool everyone by the look of things. The next thing Mort knew there was a flash of gold and the little queen was settled on his shoulder crooning to him.
Oh. The boy looked at his firelizard, rather stunned. ‘I wonder if Darya has any kind of prophetic powers.’ He commented idly to the gold as he began moving past most of the crowd to claim some of the wherry that was on offer for his queen. ‘Well I can’t keep thinking of you by colour. I think I’ll call you Ghost, you move like a TurnOver ghost, there and gone, and there again. You look skinny enough to be a ghost too. I’d better get some food into you hey?’
Darya whined plainitively and leaned forward to hide her face against Azrath’s neck. He’ll be more annoying than ever now. She told Azrath in a resigned tone. Azrath, wisely, said nothing.
