"Oh my," Mari said as she picked up the little green in her pudgy hands. "Why you silly little thing you don't want me." she said as she groped for the meat at her table blindly. Bringing the meat to the green's mouth, she cradled it in one arm like an infant. The little green accepted the meat chunks quietly, crooning in a whining tone when Mari took to long.
"Sh sh shhhh." Marisina crooned to the hatchling, rocking it gently in her arms as she continued to feed it. Soon it fell asleep. She held the little thing in the crook of her arm as she watched the other eggs rock, surprised and happy at the green's choice. It was hers, another little creature to nurture and care for. "Tami," she whispered the greens name as she caught a drudge, sending them off for more scraps. This was going to be a long afternoon.

Covera muffled laughter as a bronze fire lizard rejected a girl who had tried to tempt him. He flew to the floor and Covera was hit with a wave of concern for the little thing, he had to be careful, people could easily step accidentally on his frail body. Covera stopped paying attention the bronze and turned back to the eggs. Just as she was watching one egg rock, something sharp clawed at her foot. With a gasp Covera looked down to see the same bronze fire lizard she'd been observing earlier claw at her foot impatiently. "You want me?" Covera asked pleased and hurriedly knelt down and presented the bronze with meat. Hungrily the bronze ripped apart the meat, his eyes whirling. "I really should get you out of the way, we're kind of taking space little one," Covera whispered and stroked the bronze's head. "What should I name you?" Covera asked the bronze who had now finished eating and was now observing Covera calmly. "You're a calm one eh?" Covera asked and chuckled and took the bronze so that he could perch on her arm. "I bet you want to sleep now, don't you?" She asked him and with a last glance at the people who were still watching the clutch intently, she left the room with the newly named bronze, Erro.

Nicking a bowl from the table that some woman had set up, Saraina yawned and traversed the edges of the small crowd so that she could get a good look at the flitter clutch.
I'm late... oh well. Not like all the litter buggers have hatched yet...
Scratching the back of her head as she yawned, the young woman counted the number of small eggs upon the sand and how many had hatched.
Lets see... one, two, three... seven, eight, nine... fifteen, and sixteen. Minus the three eggs that no longer resemble eggs, thats thirteen eggs left.
Hissing slightly as the flit who had decided to fly in and out of the crowd trying to find someone it like, almost clipped her in the head. Snaking her way to the front of the crowd, Saraina rustled the meat in her bowl slightly which made a small noise. Every other minute or so after much yawning and sighing, Sara would twitch the bowl of meat making the sound repetitive.

Ciara held her tongue as the young Bronze showed his displeasure. She glanced at him before moving away from the Hatchlings. She would not intrude on them, making them feel forced. Her blue eyes were full of joy to see the Hatching of such beautiful creatures.

A flitter hatching. This had the full potential to be quite interesting. It would at least take the edge of the boredom Paryal had been feeling all day, that was gnawing so insistently away at her so that she wandered about like a restless feline. In addition, she would get to see what new Candidates had arrived in the past few days. More and more were coming, to the point where Paryal was almost overwhelmed. Sometimes two or three seemed to come a day. She didn't envy whoever was in charge of the Candidates. It would be difficult to organize their group, though not impossible. Perhaps Paryal would be stuck doing the ledgers. It would be mind-numbing, but at least it would be difficult, and she could demonstrate her own quick mind. Well, that was a topic for another day.
Stopping by the kitchens first to grab a pitcher of klah and several mugs (they'd probably need it- these sort of events were supposed to be tiring), Paryal strolled confidently to where the Hatching was taking place. "I've brought klah and mugs for those who want it." With those words, she set the platter down ever so carefully on the sand. At least the sand would manage to keep it nice and warm, if not boiling. There were advantages to having such a hot surface. It was a shame she couldn't sit though. Paryal would have liked to fold her eggs and watch the Hatching carefully, but she had to be content with standing. The eggs certainly were beautiful. Did she want a fire lizard? Yes, said one part of her mind, while the sensible part reminded her that soon she would have a dragon and it would be a tremendous responsibility. Confident that she could handle it, Paryal carefully moved her body closer to the clutch. There were plenty of people around, many of them unfamiliar. She offered a grin to those who looked new, before standing somewhat uncomfortably on the burning sands.
***
Partol was full of uncertainty as he entered the Hatching Ground. He was surprised to see Paryal there, but then, he didn't know her very well. The two may have been related, but their interactions had been limited to once or twice a year. She wanted a fire lizard too? Partol wasn't completely confident that he would manage to get a fire lizard's attention, much less a dragon. Did he even belong here? Partol trembled in his thick boots, wanting so badly to have one of these little creatures, if only to prove that he was indeed here for a reason, not a Searchrider's mistake.
Edging his body towards the front of the crowd, surprised at his own daring, Partol waited. He was so dreadfully nervous, trembling like a sick animal. There was a sizable slab of meat in his hand, though it was shaking as badly as the lad himself was. He tried to say hello to everyone, but found that the moisture had left his mouth. "He-hello", he managed to get out, looking for the person in charge of the clutch. Hopefully she wouldn't get too angry that he had brought his miserable self to the hatching.

Robika smiled kindly at Partol. "Hello," she told him, she paused. "You'd better get up front so the flitters see you," she advised, and gave him a gentle push forward. This was probably one of the kinds of candidates that needed a bit of help and were self-conscious, she thought with amusement. Perhaps he'd blossom with a little push- so she did just that.
Just then, the Volcanic Egg gave a final shudder, and the egg broke into several smooth shards- all so extremely different from how the egg exterior appeared. They were so smooth looking as opposed to the rough shades. Nevertheless, it didn't appear to affect the flitter within. The light blue flitter tumbled out of his birthing place, and he looked around wildly. Not wasting time on ceremony, he flew headlong into R'ton, creeling. He was hungry! Hunger took precedence over shyness- he could worry later if he had chosen a nice person.
The Magma Egg then began rocking. The spidery red veins on its edges began to split- yet only along the veins. It was very peculiar to watch, but very interesting. The large fragments soon fell to the sand beneath, and out stepped a sturdy young green. Bugling her triumph at getting rid of that stupid egg, she swung her light head around, regarding everyone balefully. Until... Crooning, she stumbled over to Paryal, hissing at her, demanding food to fill her empty belly.
Seemingly inspired by all these Impressions, the Combustion green straightened herself up. Flapping her wings to dry them, she accidentally raised herself up into the air a little. Alarmed, she squeaked, and toppled down. That was scary! Tentatively, the green tried it again, now raising herself a little higher. Trilling happily, the green slowly made her way over to Lauranna. Could she see? She was actually flying!
As the green flitter had this startling revelation, the Frostbite Egg quietly hatched. It was without fanfare that a sturdy brown dragon of a deep coffee color emerged, quietly surveying the surroundings. He was hungry, but most importantly, he had to see where he was, where he needed to be, and how to get there.

R'ton was startled by the enthusiams of the blue flitt that came straight towards him. Almost a little scared of the whirling wings and voracious hunger that he could not control, he quickly plopped a piece of meat in the hungry mouth and moved his other arm up underneath the creature, slowly steadying him until the blue was resting nicely on his arm. "Well, there now. Now that your out of the air your a little better. What was all that excitement about?" He said feeding the flitt piece after piece. hunger hunger hunger, turned to hunger, appreciation and tiredness from the little fellow. He really was an extrodinary blue color, R'ton noticed. His fingers played along the soft hide and noticed how happy his little flitt was. But a name, what to name this blue beauty...Maybe Rodonth would know? hmmmm, could we name it Rontue?
The bronze answered after much consideration, allowed so that everyone could hear, R'ton restated the name, pushing feelings of warmth and love towards his blue Rontue. "Rontue, I will feed you until you are asleep." He still noticed that not many people had come and the ratio was still almost half and then again to the amount of eggs. Deciding that he could try to attatch more then one, Rodonth not even minding, he settled himself warmly, if a little uncomfortably, back onto the sand. thankfully he had still been wearing riding leathers. Rontue finished the last piece of meat that R'ton had for him and began to claw his way up the mans jacket until he had slithered in and under hair and collar until he was a warm crooning mass near R'ton's neck. Rontue's claws prickled his neck a bit, but that was fine. We did it Rodonth! And you picked a wonderful name great friend! The bronze dragon rumbled pleasantly, eyes whirling bright blue from where he was pleased with both rider, and the new friend.

Blinking slightly as the green impressed, Saraina let her eyes wonder to the dark, rich colored brown. Twitching her nose slightly, the young woman slowly lowered herself into a steady crouching position. Shaking the bowl of sliced up meat infront of her, Sara watched the brown intently, but her other senses were alert for other displays of hatching eggs.
Ever since Brownrider F'rah had brought her here, she had discovered a new found passion for Browns. In fact, she had forced F'rah and his brown Styth to pose for a painting which she gave them for his birthday... but she kept a second painting of Styth for herself. Although she knew there was little chance to impress a large Brown, this flitt hatching might give her a chance to impress a small one.

~Mine? The small dragon things are saying something about a hatching. Yet no dragon-clutch has been laid.~ Sitath murmured softly, looking up at the woman sprawled against his side, covered protectively by a blue wing. She groaned at the sound of his voice, and Sitath realised too late that his lovely mine had been sleeping. ~Oh! I am sorry mine. I did not know you were sleeping.~ Sitath sounded very aggrieved, and as such. Zadari hurried to comfort him.
"No, no love. It's alright, 'bout time your rider was getting up anyway." The red-head laughed, brushing the fiery waves away from her face with a smile for her dragon, and for him alone. She opened one green eye, and then the other, very reluctant to actually get up and move away from her dragons side. Zadari yawned, stretching as she leant against Sitath's side, "Probably a flit hatching then..." She mumbled, still not quite awake. She had Sitath, and did not need one of the flits, most thought them annoying little beasts, but Zadari thought them cute in their own way... Privately of course. She wasn't, however, expecting Sitath to show any more interest in it.
~Oh! Really mine? Do... Do you think... We could get one?~ Though excitement raced through his tones, and in the shifting of his body, Sitath still sounded hesitant of asking anything of his rider, of his Zadari. When she was silent for long moments, Sitath thought she was ignoring him, and then she spoke. "Why do you want one?" The question was soft, inquiring, and it really seemed as though she were thinking about it. ~Well... Trith had one... The little green...~ Sitath moved his wing so he could look at Zadari.
Ah, yes, she figured Trith would come into this. Five sharding turns it had been. And still, neither she or her dragon could forget L'tarn and Trith. She'd do anything, anything for Sitath, and if he'd like a little flit, then she'd try and Impress one for him. She pushed from his side, straightening the wher-hide jacket. She hadn't bothered to change from patrol in the morning, instead collapsing with Sitath. "Alright then Sitath. We'll go see them, and see if I can Impress one." The joy in her dragons mental cheer brought a smile to Zadari's lips and put a sparkle in her eyes.
Kitchens, that's where everything was. At the opposite end of the Weyr to her dragons private Weyr. She cursed softly as she ran into someone, apologising and moving on. How could one not get knocked about. She did notice, that the person followed her. And smiled. Ah, a hopeful Weyrbrat perhaps? No harm in them coming then. ~He is nice mine..~ Sitath told her calmly, still excited as Zadari had promised to tell him the minute she Impressed a baby.
Will had smiled as the rider had run into him, and yes, he knew she was a rider simply from teh glazed look she'd gotten in her eyes. It had taken no convincing to get Rielana to come, Ellanoran... On the other hand... It had taken Rielana's enthusiasum. And the two had then raced ahead. Will for one, was glad. So little time did he have lately to think. Really think about what would happen if he didn't Impress when the dragon eggs hatched. Well, he could go back home, or he could hang around for a few more turns...
Rielana had taken teh younger boys hand and pulled him along, despite any protests. She was endlessly excited at teh prospect of getting a flitter. They were adorable things and rie was pretty much obsessed with them. Anything would be nice, a gereen, a blue. Anything. Just to cuddle that warmth against her. She'd love it, more than anything, she'd love it.
Ellanoran sighed as he looked over the little eggs, so many had hatched, and so many had Impressed... Yet so many reamined still. Was that even possible? Of course it was, yes, it was. That was understandable...

The Dry Ice blue finally decided! Picking himself up, he trilled a funny little tune, and scurried himself over into the direction of the girls, not even sparing them a passing glance. After all, he knew where His was! He may not be a brown, but who needed those stupid things? Crooning, he attempted to climb up Saraina's leg. He was going to get up there, with or without her help!
At that same time, the Frostbite brown looked up. His had just come in! Trumpeting happily, he walked peacefully through the crowd, weaving in and out of the people to make his way toward Ellanoran. Crooning, he sat at the boy's feet, waiting patiently to be picked up and fed. He was looking forward to the attention he would get from this boy.
For a brief moment, there were no hatchlings on the sands, and their was an awkward moment of silence. Fortunately, it didn't last long. The Feverish Egg, which had broken up the egg of its green sister, finally got some thing cracks running down the sides. With a strong, firm push, the fragments of the shell were sent flying in all directions. Still looking like he was in the process of tapping the inside of the shell, a dark blue flitter stood, looking confused. Instantly, he let out a couple curious clicks, flopping onto the ground to stare up at all the people. So many choices, but who to choose...
However, his careless actions were overlooked when the Melted Gold Egg chose this moment to free herself from her prison. Screeching in defiance, she glared in disgust at the pieces that had held her. Of all the nerve, trapping a queen! She looked around at everyone haughtily, the sticky egg fluid on her honey-colored hide making her gleam and look all the more dangerous. Trilling in disapproval at her lazy blue brother, she gazed at the hopeful people. She would take her time to think about this one.

Ellanoran had looked down in surprise, he'd noticed the brown weaving about, but he'd never actually thought that he was comign for him... Well... Yes he had... But that had more been the thought that the brown was so hungry it planned to eat him.
Then he'd only planted himself at his feet and looked up at him, crooning. Of course, Ellanoran did the only sensible thing. He blinked. A nudge at his side made him bend to pick teh brown up, stroking the back and head of the litte creature with an expression akin to adoration on his face. Of course, the little brown cuddle up to those hands, crooning and purring in the manner of a feline. He liked these pets. Yes.
"I like the name Kel for you. Or Kellris, but Kel for short yes?" Ellanoran whispered, still stroking him. Yes, he would feed him... Soon. Enough. Just as soon as he was finished cuddling him.
Rie had been the one to nudge him, her bright eyes sparkling as another flitt hatched, a dark blue that looked about ready to fall asleep and then the gold. The gold however, was the one that made Rie giggle. Ignoring the fact that a rider had stepped up beside her, she turned her face towards Ellanoran and Will. "Hatched on the wrong side of the shell that one. Look at her face." The giggles following that were stiffled, or she attempted to stiffle them with her hand.
Will smiled, yes, the gold did look rather grumpy, but the blue seemed laid back. Rather comfortable and willing to wait for his to show up. Clever things flitts were, perhaps not as magestic as dragons, but certainly prettier than a Watch-Wher. Even Watch-whers though, had their own charm. You just had to be able to look past their appearance and to the heart that beat beneath.
Zadari had laughed as teh brown seemed to have been waiting for a certain boy, one that he latched onto just as seh walked through the door, Sitath attempting to chatter and stay quiet at the same time, a contradiction that was really rather amusing. Rielana's comment though, made her laugh, a sound that was quickly covered up. "I think most golds crack on the wrongs side of the shell... It's like... A part of their hide or something." Both young women dissolved into quiet laughter then, mostly at the golld flitter's expense.

Paryal had time only to blink once when the small, creamy green shape launched itself at her, hissing and carrying on to such an extent that her wishes were very clearly known. "Shush, they can hear you all the way in Keroon." The green didn't seem to listen, still hissing and rustling her wings, looking as imperious as any queen up at Paryal. Why wasn't she feeding her? Quick as a flash, the little green struck forward and gave Paryal hearty nip, though she didn't manage to break the skin. "Ow! Okay, I'll feed you, you little wherry." The next few moments seemed to simply fly by, as Paryal found herself stuffing the little green. How much could she eat? Quite a bit, it seemed. Enough to satisfy her bonded, who had a stomach much larger than the fire lizard's. Finally her hunger tailed off, and the green gave a happy chirp, settling herself into the crook of Paryal's arm. "I suppose I need to name you now." A slow feeling of contentment was spreading across Paryal's mind. It wasn't her own contentment. It was something different... With a start, she realized it was coming from the fire lizard now lying half asleep in her arms. Impression had been made, and Paryal found herself grinning like a madwoman, unable to keep herself from laughing out loud. This was incredible, just incredible. The emotion... It was impossible to describe.
"Fairamay. Your name is Fairamay." The name didn't even need consideration. It just came to Paryal, and the sleepy green, now named Fairamay, trilled once to show that she approved. Now that the green was no longer a raging mass of energy, Paryal was able to examine her closely. She was quite stocky, not the most lovely shape for a green fire lizard. Her color, however, was beautiful- light and creamy, without any dark streaks to mar its perfection. The color more than made up for the build of Fairamay, who Paryal suspected would end up being a large green. The ability to well surpass any of her green siblings was there in this frame, and would show itself with the proper feeding. For now, worrying over such things didn't matter. All that mattered was Fairamay. She wouldn't want a sibling, would she? The only two out on the sands right now were the gold and a blue. Somehow, Paryal couldn't picture Fairamay being happy to share her attention with either, so she made herself content with just standing back and watching, curious to see who would Impress what.
****
Partol shifted uncomfortably, watching the fire lizards that had hatched. They had all Impressed so quickly that it was difficult to see who was left. He would have liked nothing better than to have a little green or blue companion. Anything higher would be considered ranking, almost, and he certainly didn't want that. Seeing that there was a blue that looked as if he hadn't Impressed, Partol crouched down, offering his meat hesitantly. He didn't look like the most friendly fire lizard, but maybe that was because he was hungry. Then again, he might choose someone with a far stronger prescence, someone who was more confident than Partol himself. He was careful to make the distinction between the blue fire lizard and the gold, making it clear that he didn't want the little Queen's attention. Shards no. He couldn't deal with a gold fire lizard. He wasn't even sure he could deal with this blue. Maybe he should just wait for another green. Standing back up quickly, Partol hid his meat behind his back, trying to melt once more into the crowd.

Ciara watched as the Hatchlings impressed, careful not to anger them at all. How delicate these creatures were; so delicate, yet so mighty at once. Ciara tenderly picked up some meat and crouched beside the Hatching Fire-lizards. They were so beautiful and majestic. Her pale blue eyes traveled to where the young Queen was. She dare not approach this beauty in fear of making her angry. Ciara smiled as she saw the lazy Blue. How nice it would be to have two constant companions, but Ciara instantly banished the thought. She was a candidate for the eggs on the Hatching Grounds and there came a big responsibilty for Impressing a Dragon Hatchling.

What was this Silt was sending her? Pictures of eggs rocking in sand? They looked rather strange to Alene, being different colors and paterns. What was going on? Again, Silt sent the picture, getting slightly exhasperated. Oh. A flitt Hatching. Hatching? Not even at the Weyr for a full day and already there was a flitt Hatching. Reminded the Runner of that time at Southern with the whers. She'd just delivered a message from a new Weyrling to his parents when the whers of the Hold began Hatching. Was she a magnet or something? Alene shrugged mentally. Why not go watch? Couldn't hurt.
As she loped into the sands, her long legs eating ground, Silt came to land on her shoulder, humming low in his throat for the little ones cracking their shells. Several had already Impressed and were getting their faces stuffed by their proud new owners. Silt's Hatching hadn't been anything like this one, and his minute scars shone in the glow light against his brown hide. Alene watched as the eggs continued to hatch, distantly interested. Yes, another flitt could be handy, but she had Silt already. She wouldn't turn one away if it happened near her but she wouldn't go searching for one either. Two many Runners on one trace raised the temperature beyond boiling, afterall.

She'd noticed the small red egg, glinting briefly as if it were metal if you looked at it from the corner of your eye, but had paid it little heed as she watched the antics of the newly hatched flitters as they tried to find their Mines. Lauranna had always been fascinated by the process. She wasn't exactly sure how dragons or their smaller cousins managed to pick the best possible match for Impression, but there was no doubt that these choices seemed to be right.
Then the egg exploded, drawing her gaze instantly, and she blinked, bemused, at the tiny, perfect little green that had made such a grand entrance into the world. The flitter cocked her head to one side in curiosity. Lauranna couldn't help but smile at that. Such a cute little thing. She almost moved to go help the green firelizard when the dainty green surprised herself, but stayed still when she saw that the little creature was making another attempt. The flitter was flying to her? Lauranna smiled encouragingly, extending her hand, upon which the firelizard alighted daintily. She cocked her head again, her chirrup questioning.
"That was very lovely, yes," Lauranna responded softly. The green drew herself up happily at the praise, before tearing at the meat still in the greenrider's palm. "That's it, little one." Lauranna ran a finger down the babe's spine, the little green crooning at her touch, before going back to her meal. What is the small one's name? Reysalth could barely contain her excitement, which just made Lauranna smile brighter. Zephyr. Her name is Zephyr.
