So! Today I went logging with my horse. ^_^ I dunno if anyone is interested in seeing, but ... here are pics anyway. I kinda couldn't take pics while it was actively happening cause I was the one with the lines, and running for all I was worth to keep up with my horse... This is her walking behind the tractor to the site. Yes, we had a tractor with a loader bucket, and all that ... the reason we're using the horse is the tractor can't get where the logs are. Uneven ground, too much forest, etc, all that. Just not safe. So, here horsey! This is her with the first log (there were three), the smallest of the lot. That square looking thingy at the front is our ... um ... log sled. Obviously, it didn't work. We didn't bother to use it the other times. On the way home I tied her to the end of the 16 ft trailer that we had the logs on, hauling with the tractor. She ... not to sure about this idea, here. On the way home, though, she's cool. She walked most of the way with her snout resting on one of the logs. It only took her a few steps to get comfortable with the idea, and we didn't have a single incident on the way home. I dunno if you can see, but she didn't even keep at rope length. One more on the way home pic.

Soooo!! Next step!! Today my brother and I started sawing the logs. Well ... he sawed the logs, and I debarked the ones that weren't sawn yet. Orrr ... I tried to. I got one about 3/4 done before he got the first log all sawn up. I don't exactly have the right tool for the job, ended up doing it with a glorified machete. Anyway, after that first log was all sawn up we decided ... enough sawing for today. let's hang these things! Esp since it looked like it might rain ... dun wanna ruin or warp our brand new lumber! Soooo ... we busted but hanging the planks on the side of the frame the sawmill itself is inside. Cause these boards are supposed to be the walls of that shed. I tell ya what those things are heavy, and I had to hold em up while he screwed them down. Well ... the top ones anyway. Mostly cause I was too short to reach where the screws were supposed to go. I got to drive the screws in the bottom ones. Mwa ha ha ha ha. Anyway! After we were all done and stood back ... we were all ... That ... Is some mega honking side of bacon ... Those planks are about 18 inches wide, on average. Some wider, some narrower. Anyway, I had pics of the sawing and the debarking too, but I can't convince my phone to email em to me so I can get em on the computer .... this was the only one that went!
