Chores had seemed interesting for one half of the bonded pair, the green dragon had been elated at the idea of Alaid getting outside of their weyr for some reason other than lessons. Of course, though, Alaid would get something that she knew absolutely nothing about. The fact the girl knew what a boat was was just a miracle. Given her current choices, she didn't know what to do, so she had waited with patience for someone else to come along, weyrling, candidate, anyone who could either teach her how to handle the boat or anything so she could be done with her chores.
The prospect of being forced into communications frightened her, not to mention trusting someone not to toss her into the river as they taught her what to do. She had been utterly terrified and tempted to try and trade off with someone, even if that meant initiating contact with others, but Aorath had soothed these fears. The green sunned on the beach in the midday light, waiting for someone to make a wrong move, though she personally doubted that anyone would do such a thing.
Aorath trusted their new Weyr with much more vigor than Alaid had ever considered. Yet, until the girl found it within herself to put her faith in these people, Aorath had to at least reassure her that she was there to protect her. The young green had promised to toss anyone off the waterfall who tried to hurt Hers. The image she constantly sent to Alaid, to keep assuring her that she was safe when she doubted at all was, at its most threatening, comical, the turtle-marked green tossing a featureless black figure from the waterfall, their arms flapping wildly to try and sustain flight. Despite Alaid's desperate nervousness, Aorath could still feel the girl's smile from across the distance.
