Lesson 14: Classroom: Easy day, no class! Training Field: Run Choice Obstacle Courses Created During Lesson Thirteen
Sel’n smiled form his perch on Kaaoloth. "Well Kaao today is the last day for this class. All in all I think they will shape up pretty good. At least they have gotten their feet wet in fighting. We will let them choose what they want to do today eh?" The big brown rumbled and turn his head back to regard his bonded his eyes whirling a deep blue. Shall I call the class? At his rider’s nod Kaaoloth raised his head. Attention Blooming Weyrlings. Today is your last day for class. If you want to be considered for graduation it is highly recommended that you attend class today. Please report to the training field. Selmine and I await your arrival. The brown bugled a welcome as the first pair glided in and Sel’n patted the beast’s neck. You got attached didn’t you? Kaaoloth snorted and declined to comment. If you do not hurry, Mine, I will be forced to eat you. Hepaticath declared, turning her head to observe Hers scurrying about their weyr. Hers had had a rare moment of girlish fancy and been lost in daydreams that Hepaticath was thoroughly disinterested in, and it had taken the young gold a moment to stir the young woman from her fantasies. Savitri had blushed upon the realization that her mindmate was listening in, and Hepaticath had proceeded to tease her. The teasing had degenerated into an argument, which Hepaticath was now labelling as 'stalling.' Hers just didn't want to be blushing at lessons, she deduced. Hers did not like to blush. Or I will be forced to tell everyone that you are a ridiculous hatchling that turns red all the time.
That elicited a scoff from the young woman as she secured the rest of her riding gear in place and began to check over the straps she had already attached to Hepaticath's neck. "I do not blush all the time, and you know it. You could probably count on one hand the number of times I've done it in this last Turn," she said crisply, scowling as she realized the dragon was only poking at her for a reaction. "Do you want me to hurry, or do you want to argue some more? Take your pick. We'll be on time either way." The young woman stood and just stared up at her massive mindmate, feet shoulder-width apart, arms folded over her chest. Her expression was impassive, though Hepaticath wanted to insist there was still a little redness to her neck. Perhaps that was the gold's imagination, though. She did so love to tease Hers.
Very well. Let us leave, and I will not tell anyone this time. the gold warned, unable to hide the fact that her eyes were whirling a deep blue-green in her amusement. Savitri noticed and lightly slapped the gold on the neck before putting on her helmet and leaping astride, aided by the foreleg that Hepaticath extended out of habit. We are to go to the training field, Mine. It is our final lesson, and I am very excited. It is a pity some of our class does not attend. They miss all the fun. the queen said before taking one delicate hop toward the edge of her weyrledge and then taking to the sky with massive wingbeats. She was mastering it, this vague notion of coordinating all of her body parts. It would serve her well when she finally got it down to an art.
The weyrlingmaster's brown bugled to them, and Savitri managed to not jump out of her skin when Hepaticath gave her own bugle in response. The gold's was not so deep, given her feminine nature, but it was certainly loud enough that Hers had to restrain herself to keep from clapping her hands over her ears. Sharding loud dragons. Couldn't they just make normal-volume noises?! Of course not, Mine. We would be silly humans if we did that. the gold chided as she plucked that thought from the young woman's mind, backwinging to a somewhat-graceful landing near their instructors. Good day, Kaaoloth... to you and Yours. the gold said in polite greeting, lowering her head and neck to allow Hers to dismount. Are we doing something fun today?
Knowing that 'fun' meant anything acrobatic or slightly dangerous, Savitri pulled off her helmet and took a step away from her dragon, keeping one cautious eye on the enthusiastic gold. She didn't trust Hepaticath to not do something ridiculous for kicks. The gold hadn't thrown her in the river in awhile. "Weyrlingmaster," she greeted Sel'n with a polite nod of her head. She didn't bother to ask what they were doing, though. He would explain soon enough, she hoped.

Kaaoloth’s eyes whirled a peaceful blue green as Hepaticath landed. Good day to you and yours as well Hepaticath. We are indeed going to do something fun today. It looks like the rest of your classmates are to lazy to attend. What a pity. The large brown snorted. Selmine is not happy about it. He says he does not think they should be allowed to graduate.
Sel’n nodded politely to Savitri from his perch on Kaaoloth. “Good morning Savitri. It is a shame the rest of our class doesn’t take lessons more seriously.” He shook his head. “Regardless we will strive to have a good time today. Hepaticath is quite an impressive flyer. What do you say we test her a bit?” The brown rider smiled at the young queen and nudged Kaaoloth. “Go on Kaao show them today’s game.”
The large brown lifted his tail upon which was tied a brightly colored long ribbon. “Your objective is to chase us down and acquire the ribbon for yourselves. If you manage to snatch the ribbon we will then let Hepaticath get her turn at being leader. If she wants too of course.” He amended with a smile at the pair. “It will be fun and serve a double purpose of helping hone maneuverability, speed, and tactics.” He gave a light kick to Kaaoloth and the large brown vaulted into the air with a bellow. Catch me if you can Hepaticath He said playfully as he poured on a bit more speed. Sel’n turned to catch sight of the gold pair and ready himself for their pursuit. Careful Kaaoloth Hepaticath has the wings to out power you.
