General chores duty had placed Raylin in an area she thought she would never have to visit, but here she and Ebolath were in the Creche. She had been assigned to clean the place today. Thankfully all the children had either gone to bed or been taken elsewhere leaving the girl to get to work without interruption. It wasn’t that she didn’t like children ,quite the opposite really, she just wanted to hurry and get done before the old woman that ran the place showed up. Frankly the weyrling was a bit scared of the elderly. They always smelled funny and never talked liked normal people.
Ebolath was amused by the colors of the place and the toys scattered around and had taken to nosing things with a curious muzzle. She snorted at the strange yet not altogether unpleasant smells. “Ebolath dear don’t break anything.” Raylin warned her hatchling firmly but not unkindly. I won’t Raymine. The little green retorted quickly as she pawed at a small stuffed animal. Vega chirped from his position on the top of the cabinet Raylin was dusting. At least she would always have these two for company.
With all the work she had been doing, taking care of both bondeds, classes, and chores she had no time for further socializing and she found her mind drifting to thoughts of what Saeo and Cloar where doing. At least they were in the same rotation. Raylin had no friends in her rotation. The only person she had even talked to although it was only in passing was N’lai and frankly she wasn’t looking forward to meeting his horrible bonded. The little blue terrified most people.

T'ke was not looking forward to his chores. Of all the things he could have been assigned, cleaning up after children did not rate high on his list. Garaeth, of course, thought it was the best assignment, as he would probably have thought anything was. The blue was trotted besides his bonded at a merry gate, clearly looking forward to see what the day had in store. T'ke, meanwhile, was not looking forward to what was likely to be a horrible mess waiting for them. Children were not know for their sense of hygiene.
<Ebolath is here!> Garaeth declared joyfully as they rounded the entrance. T'ke looked up from his musings. Ebolath? That was... He had to think hard for a moment to remember. She was Raylin's dragon, a green. Raylin must be on duty too. Sure enough, he could see her dusty shelves as he came in. He felt nervous. He had never really talked to her before, but he had little choice now. It would be rude to say nothing.
Garaeth solved the problem by prancing happily up to the lovely green dragonet. <Good day, Ebolath. How are you and yours?> he asked pleasantly. T'ke sighed. He had no choice but to follow his dragon. "Hi...um...Raylin," he started uncertainly. He glanced around the room littered with toys and dust. "What would you like me to do?" he asked.

Ebolath spun around from her examination of the stuffed animal and crooned a gretting as Garaeth entered the room with his. Good day Clutchbrother mine! Raymine and I are fine. How is yours? She butted at his neck affectionately, her tail tip twitching in suppressed excitement. Would you like to play tag? It is so boring watching Raymine dust. The green dragon gave a snort and pawed at a ball that lay on the floor rumbling in amusement as it “ran” from her.
Raylin turned around at her dragon’s croon and smiled nervously as the pair entered the room. This was T’ke and his dragon Garaeth. She remembered them from classes. She was relieved it was not N’lai and his blue. She was not looking forward to ever being trapped in a room with that particular pair. “Hello T’ke.” she gave a small smile in his direction. “I was going to try and finish the dusting. So I guess you can start by picking up the toys and putting them away. The stuffed animals go on the shelves and the other toys go into those wooden bins over to the left.” The weyrling motioned to the area and returned to her dusting. T’ke seemed very laid back. That was a relief.

((WHO DARES TRESPASS IN IEHOA'S TERRITORY? >D))
“Also, there is a stain in the floor furs over in the corner from when Jeop had an accident this morning. If one of you… you, young man! Look in that cabinet by the window, there should be a cleaning solution made for just this problem! Yes, the one with the pink herdbeast on it.”
Ieoha stood in the door way, her usual manical grin shaded by a giant reed hat atop her head and her typical hands-on-hips gesture outdone by her flowery bathing garments. All she was missing was the white splotch across the nose and an angular green shoulder accessory. Her hazel eyes were still twinkling despite her incomplete outfit, sizing up the two intruders at the crèche. Weyrlings! Oh, she just loved Weyrlings! And by Weyrlings, she meant unpaid slaves.
Scooting over to one corner of the room, Ieoha pulled out a colorfully-painted, low stool and situated herself onto it with the help of her cane. She then proceeded to reach up onto a high ledge that was, for the most part, hidden out of sight, patting around the surface as if she was looking for something. “Grand timing, you have, darlings, cleaning here on field-trip day. Tell me, did someone tip you off that we were heading to the beach? I’m sure the room will be much easier to clean now then later when the we’ll be up to our asse-“
“Found it!” The crèchewoman cried triumphantly and yanked a sleeping Laef off of her ledge-nest. Usually she put the flitter up there when the children grew bored of her or on particularly busy days. Of course, Laef usually was not conscious enough to care where she was tossed. The real problem was remembering to get her back down, which was the obvious problem now. Inspecting the flitter, Ieoha nodded once or twice to herself. “Nice job dusting, so far. But, you missed a spot.” She held out Laef with one hand and pointed out how her tail had a slightly grey tinge.

Garaeth nudged Ebolath back happily. <I am well!> he declared brightly. <And mine is also well,> he added with a glance in his rider's direction. The other was nervous and still far too easily unhappy, but Garaeth was sure he could fix that soon. He delighted at his green sister suggestion and perked up his head expectantly. <I would love to! Who should start?> He was willing enough to play, no matter who got to be "it." It was fun either way.
T'ke nodded stiffly, somewhat relieved that Raylin was being so polite and reasonable. He was just starting to pick up the ball that Ebolath had pushed, when a new voice barked in his ear. T'ke winced visible and turned slightly to see Ieoha standing in the entrance. He had never actually met her before, but this had to be the crechewoman he had been told about. From her tone, he dared not disobey her and nodded dumbly at her order. He quickly found the cleaning supplies and set to work on the stain in question, glancing at her as she spoke and hunted for her fire lizard. It was almost hard to believe that the little green thing in her hand was alive, but it was a fire lizard nonetheless.

Cleaning the Creche was /not/ something N'lai looked forward to. Weyrbrats were loud, and smelly... And with Kyssith's dislike for anyone touching him, he really thought they should have been assigned to a duty where there were less people. Namely, brats that would want to touch the pretty blue dragon.
|They had better not touch me,| Kyssith warned him, moving along N'lai's side and peering at everything they passed with disinterest. N'lai had been quick to learn his blue's moods, and was happy that he was more content and mellow than usual today. Now if he could get him in to his own corner, he wouldn't have to worry... He was drawn from his thoughts as Kyssith trotted ahead of him, slipping in to the Creche with a disdainful look. This place did /not/ look like a good place. Even the sight of two of his clutchsiblings did not really console him, but as N'lai moved to his side he settled down.
"Hello T'ke, Raylin." He said it rather awkwardly, knowing that impressing Kyssith had not earned him any friends. The blue /had/ mauled Pasine rather badly, and Pasine had a lot more friends than he did. Kyssith snorted, plopping down against the wall to watch the going-ons with a critical eye. |You do not need friends. You have me.| Nice to have him be so understanding...

Ebolath hopped at Garaeth and tapped his flank with her muzzle. You are it clutch brother mine She said teasingly before jumping away and waddling around a table to pear at him, eyes whirling a happy blue. Raylin just shook her head. “Ebolath don’t mess things up too badly. We are supposed to be cleaning love.” Ebolath snorted and continued her game flicking her tail in amusement.
The weyrling opened her mouth to protest Ebolath’s behavior when Ieoha’s voice cut through the air and caused her to jump. She blinked at the old woman trying to understand what was being said when she pulled a sleeping, or so she hoped, green flitter off the ledge she was just dusting. “Oh sorry.” She lamely apologized as Vega flitted down from his perch to land on Ieoha. He stretched his neck out toward the small flitter in her hand. Ah this was his clutch sister! He gave a croon of greeting and cocked his head at Ieoha to give a questioning chirp. Why was she sleeping did she not know it was day?
Raylin turned her head towards the doorway as she heard her hatchling give a welcoming croon. Her blood froze when she saw who had entered, N’lai and Kyssith. Ebolath had already started to trot towards her clutch sibling when Raylin saw them enter. “Ebolath no!” Raylin yelled before jumping the table to grab her hatchling. Raymine what is wrong? The green dragon asked concerned as to why her bonded had suddenly grown so upset. Please Ebolath do not touch him. Why not Raymine? Because love I don’t want you to get hurt. The weyrling noted the confusion emanating from her dragon but again relayed the request to leave Kyssith be.
Raylin nudged her green hatchling towards Garaeth and straightened up to look at N’lai. “Hello N’lai. Ebolath tends to be very physical with her other clutch siblings and I..I just don’t want her getting hurt.” She finished a bit awkwardly. “It’s nothing against you.” She then turned from him to pick up her dust rag. Ok so that hadn’t exactly been the best greeting she ever gave anyone but Ebolath’s safety came before her own comfort.

“Thank you, darling!” she called to the male Weyrling as he went off to clean the stain, “And don’t worry about a little rough-housing. If this room can survive twenty-four candlemarks of a herd of ‘brats, a few hatchlings won’t do much harm!” These Weyrlings were so stiff! She looked down (or up, really) at Raylin as she gave another curt response. Tsk! Sure, it was nice that they were being courteous, but there is such a thing as too much manners! “It’s fine, girl! It’s not like you’ve done it before. And it’s your first time! Here, let me give you a tour of the crèche…”
Before she could begin, however, Laef woke up, much to the surprise of Ieoha. It had been her clutch-brother’s familiar croon that had alerted her to consciousness, along with a bit of hunger. She had to eat sometime, after all. But as she groggily moved her head around in search of edibles, she found none, so the second option was to greet her brother with a small chirp. He was always an early riser, so she imposed a questioning feeling to him, curious to know what time it was. The rest of her body stayed limp, however, since she saw no reason to move quite yet.
Just as her bonded was about to dump the flitter out of the window in disgust at her laziness, another pair entered the room. Ieoha was delighted to notice it was another slave weyrling pair, too boot! This room would be sparkling by the time these three were done with it! Certainly, she already knew this was the boy who had gotten the violent hatching. But Ieoha brushed the panicky feeling off. Children had temper tantrums, whether human, dragon or other. It was unfortunate that the that girl had been either too preoccupied or stupid to get out of the way, but now all they could do was try to help him grow out of it. Though, this shy weyrling wasn’t helping to do that much by such an awkward greeting.
“Oh, such drama!” she snorted, rolling her eyes, “Hello honey, I was just about to show off all the best spots in the crèche for cleaning, while it’s still nice and quiet. Grab a rag from the cabinet by the window? Yes, yes, the one with pink heardbeasts on it. Heol painted it himself! Going to grow up to be a Harper, I swear…”

T'ke turned to waved dismally at N'lai. Not that he didn't like the other weyrling, since he had missed the whole mauling event, but he simply didn't see any reason to be happy about their fate. Garaeth, lucky creature, didn't have to work and bounced happily to greet his clutch sibling. <Good day, Kyssith! Ebolath and I were going to play tag. Want to play?> he asked hopefully. Tag would be more fun with more weyrlings. A pity his bonded had to work at not play. The blue was a little confused by Ebolath's reaction to Kyssith. He didn't see anything wrong with his brother at all. He was quite a fine blue. Still, it wasn't his job to fathom other humans. So long as he had T'ke, all would be well.
