Kalina looked at the boats in dismay. Mine? Whats the matter? Uminth had already sunk into the water and was peering at Kalina with just her eyes, nose and wing tips above the water. The cool water and warm sun made a perfect combination to Uminth's day. So why was hers so dismayed? A ripple sent water in her nostrils and she snorts...spraying mist into the air.
"I ummm...don't know much about boats." Kalina admitted. Her eyebrows came together as she thought of her problem. What did she know? She knew they couldn't have gunk on the hull... at least... that was always being cleaned. She knew that a sealant was spread on the wood to keep it from leaks....and that was about it... beyond how to use one. "I guess I should just try to get some of this growth off and check for leaks...."
That's a good idea Mine. If you find anything wrong you can just let some one know. As for me...I think swimming the river is more fun than sitting on some piece of wood. Another light spray of mist indicated Uminth had gotten more water up her nose.
So Kalina picked up the tool she was suppose to use for cleaning the bottoms and began to work. It wasn't long before she was working up a sweat.
"Phew! Uminth.... this stuff ain't easy!" She said as she tried to remove some brown algae. The long thin filaments of brown algae were firmly rooted in clumps on one of the boats. Uminth peered at the stuff. It does look icky...Its a good thing I don't stay in water long enough for that.

(Sorry if you didn't want anyone to jump in, just need to get chores up quick. I can take this out if you like, or add stuff to start a conversation.)
Boats. What was I'fael and Sel'n thinking assigning her to boats? It was like telling a fish to clean the beach! Farryl sighed. There was no use complaining. She wasn't one to whine and ask for reassignment. She didn't have to go near the water if she didn't want to, after all, and cleaning a boat couldn't be much different than cleaning something else. Besides, Peppeth would love the time to go swimming.
Peppeth was indeed thrilled. She splash happily into the water with her large green sister and was soon playing and having a grand time. All the while, Farryl resigned herself to cleaning gunk with Kalina. At least it was in good company. And it could be worse. She could be in the boat.
