"Well, here we are." Burena sighed as she opened the door to the records room, sneezing as a puff of dust was forced up. She wasn't happy about being assigned this chores. She would have preferred doing something fun and interesting, but she couldn't always have what she wanted. On her shoulder, Doc chirped sagely, as if he agreed with her. "I know, this suits you just fine," Burena said, chuckling. If Doc was a human, he would probably be an archivist.
The dark blue hopped off of her shoulder and circled around the room, then settled down and curled up on a stack of records. Burena sat down at the desk and looked over the stack the archivist had set aside for the chores. Cracking her knuckles and resigning herself to a few hours of hard but dull work, she got down to business.
She pulled out the first record, which was so faded it would require a full copying over. Taking out a fresh sheet, she began to copy the text of the record, but it was harder than she had expected. Now she remembered the second reason why she didn't want to be assigned to the records room. Burena wasn't a very good reader. It would probably take her twice as long to do this as someone else. She gritted her teeth in frustration and bent her head closer over the record.
Slowly and meticulously, she began to copy. At least she just had to imitate the words, not understand them. Still, she had a headache by the time she was done with the first record.
