Apparently if you found the kitchens too hot you got stuck either bussing tables or sharpening the knives. Considering Nephele just couldn't handle the kitchens and she didn't really want to interact with people while working she chose the latter option. Nothing more off-putting than a girl sharpening already sharp looking knives and looking pleased doing it. It was oddly calming...not that she really needed calming down at the moment. Although if Charming tried to carry off a knife one more time...
Speaking of the chocolate brown he was busy admiring his reflection in the pile of finished knives. He was such a silly little beast. Sensing her thoughts Charming chirped what almost sounded like an affirmative. She spared a moment to give him a little scratch. Happy flit sounds turned the short moment into a long moment. "I have to work now, so stop distracting me," she mock reprimanded him. He chittered some nonsense and lifted off into the air to land squarely on her head. With a good grasp on her dark brown hair the brown leaned down so his face was in front of her face. "Brat." He chirped before licking her nose and flying again.
His human didn't say he couldn't bug someone else. He fluttered over to another table and landed in front of someone eating their breakfast. He trilled sweetly before making a dash for the spoon in their hand and walking away with it. A bit further down the table he stopped and chirped at the spoonless person. They wanted their shiny metal thing right? Well here it was. The brown kept his gaze on the not-his human before looking into the reflective surface of the spoon.
Nephele couldn't decide if Charming's spoon antics were amusing or troubling. She continued to sharpen a particularly dull knife while waiting to see what Charming's current target would do about the brown flit. She hoped he didn't appeal to her to get Charming behave. The candidate girl highly doubted the silly brown would give back the spoon if she told him to.

Yoalla shoved errant strands of dark brown hair out of her face and tried to poke them back into her braid somehow, precipitating a total collapse of one side of her hairstyle, much to her annoyance. Raasheen had people to do hair and make up for her girls, and they made it look far easier than it was. With a snarl she she ripped the tie off the end of the braid and shook it out, and while she was doing that, something tugged her spoon out of her hand.
“I was using that.” She said mildly and with just a hint of a bitran accent in her speech. She turned to look at whoever had taken her spoon; if it was some weyrbrat she’d box his ear and no mistake, only to see a firelizard standing a little way down the table, with her spoon in his mouth. As she looked at him the brown chirped at her, then turned to looking at the spoon.
“Come on firelizard, I need that to eat with.” She said, standing and moving slowly toward the firelizard, she didn’t want to startle him into flight. “You don’t really want the spoon do you? It doesn’t do anything good.” Yoalla had no idea if the creature could understand her or not, she’d not seen many in bitra, but she hoped the soothing tone would lull it into dropping the spoon. Yoalla had no idea that a firelizard would steal a spoon for fun.

Charming fluted happily, pleased he'd gotten a rise out of the dark haired girl he had swiped the spoon from. Her spoon was pretty-shiny. He looked at his reflection admiringly. He looked pretty-shiny, he did. Looking up at her he chirped a query. This human girl thought he was gorgeous right? Of course she did. Too bad for her that he liked this spoon though. She may not get it back anytime soon, no matter how flattering or soothing she tried to be. He wiggled his slightly odd tail in excitement as she got up.
He watched her curiously as she approached before looking in the big round part again. No good? He looked at her again. It showed him. That was good. He chirped again as he sat on his spoon-shiny and wrapped his tail around it. What would silly human girl do now? Try to take it back? That would be amusing! He chittered harshly at her as if trying to egg her on. If she didn't hurry who knew what would happen to her spoon!
Nephele fought down the urge to laugh at Charming's obsession with the girl's spoon. She put down her knife and watched the scene with amusement. The spoon-less girl was trying to get the spoon back without too much trouble? Ooh, so interesting. Charming likely wouldn't give up such a prize easily. Not with al lthe attention he was getting for taking it.

The firelizard fluted at her, the sound would have been rather endearing if it wasn’t a clear taunt about her spoon, Yoalla thought. The creature paused to look at the spoon and then chirped at her in a questioning manner. Yoalla was forced to interpret the brown’s actions as vanity. ‘Well I suppose you are a handsome little brown but that spoon really detracts from your image.’ She chuckled, approaching the firelizard slowly. It seemed to be quite smart so lunging and grabbing it probably wouldn’t work.
The firelizard seemed to be encouraging her to come after her spoon like a child playing finders keepers. Were firelizards that smart? Apparently. Even though she was getting closer and he’d wrapped his tail around the spoon he still had to look at his reflection again. Strange little beastie.
Feeling mischievous Yoalla put her hand palm down on the table and moved it toward the firelizard like a giant crawler, what would he make of that? Yoalla’s hand fingerwalked, skittered and paused before apparently bouncing for the spoon. She smiled, these little beasts were amusing though she was prepared to admit she couldn’t currently see why they were so prized.

Charming preened at the compliment. Yes, he was handsome! He trilled happily and a bit smugly. Evidentally the spoon portion of the comment went totally over his head. he began to give Yoalla more consideration, chittering absently while he looked up at her. Nephele groaned mentally. Great, someone to boost his ego. He was a stunning brown flit though...she could never deny that.
Of course Charming had to look at his reflection over and over again. He was only absolutely stunning. But now Yoalla was too close to look at his reflection safely, no matter how badly he wanted to. He curiously waited to see what the girl would do. Another compliment would be nice...Instead he got some strange reaction. He chirped questioningly as he watched the hand. It was almost like...like a hand doing weird playful things.
That worked to get him interested, sure enough. It was amusing and he was in the mood to be amused. When wasn't he? He stood up, spoon still in tail, and crouched in a mock pounce position. At the bounce of her hand he pounced happily at the target. It was just too tempting to ignore.

Well the hint that he looked silly holding a spoon with his tail had evidently gone right over his pretty little head, as the firelizard just chirped and trilled happily, choosing to acknowledge only the compliment. It was becoming clearer that he was a very vain little creature with every moment.
Yoalla had to smile, and not her sidelong doxie’s smile either, when the firelizard crouched and sprang at her hand, with the spoon still gripped in his tail. She twisted her hand around and made it strike back at the creature a few times, always aiming for his spoon bearing tail.
Finally growing slightly bored of the game, it wasn’t like she couldn’t get another spoon after all, Yoalla looked around, trying to guess who the brown belonged to. The only person even remotely interested seemed to be the short haired girl sharpening knives. ‘Hey, this handsome little demon yours?’ she asked, not bothered by the brisk efficiency with which the other girl was sharpening knives.

Charming was quite willing to play around and defend his spoon. He skittered back and forth, pounced a couple times, and chittered in a scolding manner once when she came awfully close to the shiny thing grasped by his long tail. It was quite fun and the human girl seemed to be having fun too. Suddenly though, the girl turned to her human pet and the game was over. He chirped sadly and leapt off the table.
Nephele stopped her knife sharpening and blinked. The spoonless girl had addressed her? Oh my, it would be fun explaining that she couldn't get Charming to give back the spoon unless he wanted to. She opened her mouth to answer but the little devil landed on her head suddenly and nibbled her hair. With a very slight giggle the girl nodded. There was no way she could say he wasn't. She could swear he did that on purpose....
"Sorry about his spoon-thievery. I suspect he thought it was a very tempting target though. I've been boring him with my task," the young candidate explained, gesturing to the not-much-bigger pile of completed knives. There were still quite a few knives that probably didn't need so much attention but she was still forced to do. Nothing like being pressed into service to keep you from worrying about Impression.

Yoalla shrugged, a mannerism which made her dress ripple in interesting ways. ‘There’s plenty of other spoons. If I was that interesting in getting that one back I’d try compliments or bribery. Also works on humans. Well some of them anyway.’ Yoalla offered a genuine smile and took herself over to the other girl.
‘I’m Yoalla, in case you care.’ She introduced herself with a dismissive sort of tone, there weren’t many who were interested in her name, and folded gracefully down into a seat, uninvited. ‘Do you want a hand. I expect I’ll regret offering tomorrow or somewhen. Whenever they give me chores I guess. I only got in yesterday.’ Yoalla was quite happy to talk, whether or not she actually got answers, and even quite cheerful about helping out. Madam Raasheen hadn’t been the fastest paced place on Pern but compared to this Weyr it was positively speeding along.
‘How did you get enough marks together for your pet then? Are firelizard eggs cheaper around here?’ She suddenly, and eagerly asked, so far as she could remember she hadn’t seen a firelizard out of the hands of a noble, a dragonrider, or master, even Raasheen didn’t have one, but Yoalla might be able to get an egg if they weren’t too expensive. Abruptly Yoalla’s face fell as she realized all her earnings were held in trust by Raasheen and she’d probably never see them again. Well maybe if she Impressed she could get them.

Nephele grinned at the other girl's words. "Compliments would probably work with this one," she remarked, gesturing at the chocolate brown still on her head. He was chittering pleasantly now at Yoalla from his human pet's head. Nephele chose to ignore him for the sake of human company for a bit.
"My name is Nephele,' she offered in turn. She was surprised that the girl offered help. Chores were incredibly boring most of the time. She considered her luck at finding a helpful person before nodding and pulling Charming off her head. "Charming, sweetheart, could you please get another one of these?" Nephele held up the small whetstone she had been given. "I'll give you some tasty treats later." The brown visibly considered this and Nephele saw a vision of the spoon in her mind. She sighed slightly. "No one will take your spoon." He chirped happily before dropping the spoon from his tail. Nephele let him go and he fluttered into the kitchen. "I'm amazed he listened..."
While Charming went on his errand Yoalla asked about the little guy. Nephele blinked in surprise. "Oh, he cost me no marks. I have not a single mark on me anyways. He was from a dragonrider's queen flitt. That was an...interesting Hatching." The brown returned at that moment with another whetstone. He set it on the table and fluttered in front of Yoalla's face. He made a curious little cheep at her expression.

“Compliments hrrrm?” Yoalla leaned forward. “Well I’ll remember that, not that I don’t have absolute heaps of cheap tacky jewellery that I could bribe him with if he had something I really wanted back.” She leaned her elbows on the table and rested her chin on the backs of her hands for a moment as Nephele removed Charming from his perch and sent him off for another whetstone.
“Doesn’t he normally listen?” she asked curiously, she supposed he was only a young firelizard, he didn’t look quite grown yet, but he seemed perfectly willing to obey. Aside from his spoon obsession that was. “I do feel a slight mean urge to hide the spoon though, just to tease him. Aren’t I wicked?” Yoalla cocked her head to one side in a manner she’d been told was winning, and looked at Nephele, tilting her head slightly back to do so.
Yoalla shook her head in disbelief, Nephele didn’t really look the type to sell her bed time, so Yoalla assumed she had actually managed to get the egg completely free of charge somehow. Or at least get the firelizard for free; maybe she’d just been around when he hatched. With that thought the brown returned and cheeped curiously at her. Yoalla dropped her languid pose and swept the whetstone off the table. “Thanks handsome. Don’t worry I’m not regretting offering my help. I was just thinking about how I’d like a firelizard. I’ll have to think of a way to get some marks together.” Yoalla dropped Nephele a cheerful wink and set to work on one of the dull knives, she wasn’t very quick at the task but she worked capably enough.

Nephele considered what Charming would think of jewlery in exhange for a spoon, or anything else. "Hmm, he might like to wear it if it brought out his little hide," she replied with a grin. More likely though he'd just wear it for fun or offer it to one of the women of the weyr. Then again, he could just as well refuse it if it wasn't shiny enough. Faranth, but did he love reflective things.
Nephele shook her head sadly. "Nope. He listens when he wants to. He'd much rather do something else most of the time. Part of the little guy's personality I guess. They really are interesting." She inspected the spoon idly while he was off on his errand. She saw a distorted smile in the spoon. "Then I'm wicked too for wanting to do the same. It's so tempting, isn't it?"
Charming fluted pleasantly back at Yoalla. He landed on her shoulder long enough to give her a cheek rub before realizing his spoon was lonely. He leaped off her shoulder and landed on the table, thankfully away from the knives. Then he crawled along the table to where Nephele put the spoon down again. With her flitter again distracted the candidate took up her chore again. She considered Yoalla's words for a moment while she worked before commenting. "I suppose you could work up the marks until the next Gather but waiting for another clutch in the weyr would be cheaper and morse exciting." She grinned slightly at the wink. Yoalla was a pleasant person. See, she got along well enough with girls. Charming looked up at his human pet and chirped. And draconic males of course.
