Mer sighed. Another day in the heat and torture of the kitchen. She could swear that someone somewhere had done this on purpose. Any chore was better than this. Kitchen work was boring and she was terrible at it. She couldn't stop though. With everyone so sick lately, there was more work than usual. It had her worried. R'wign had nearly died already. It had been too close. If there was one thing she was afraid of it was sickness. Ever since her mother had died of it.
Mer stirred a pot of porridge with hard angry strokes. It wasn't likely to make it taste very good, but most of the people getting it were too sick to notice or complain. Shard it all! She wanted to do something! But she was no healer. This was all she could do. She sighed again and starting filling bowls to take to the infirmary. So much work to be done.

Chopping up tubers and other vegetables was not on Anusha's "I like to do this" list. But chores were important and being in the kitchens beat the Archives any day, right now. Minth had changed her view of life dramatically (how could it not?) and now she didn't know how she survived with the solitude of the musty rooms. Sure, Akos had been company enough before the green had, literally enough, stumbled, into her life.
The blade of the knife slipped and she caught herself before it could do more harm than cut the skin, instead of losing the tip of her finger.
Loss.
So much was going on at Selenitas that made her worry. People disappearing, others falling ill. Before her mind could wander, Anusha walked to grab a damp towel to put on the cut. "Hey Mer," she said, sitting down with said towel. She hadn't been able to actually talk with her friend...aquaintance. Now she simply hoped the new - brownweyrling? - would remember her.
