Jerash dropped the pile of archive books he was holding onto the little space available on a desk, instantly regretting the action.
He punched at his own chest as he hacked away, blinking rapidly, while the large dust cloud he had created began to settle. "Oh man," he spluttered, wiping tearing eyes with the back of his hands, "this can't be good for my health."
The chair creaked ominously as he dropped into it, sighing. "It's not the chore part I hate. It's the dust," he explained to the topmost book while setting it aside and opening its cover. "It's a shame that you're so hard to read. Hopefully I can make it all better," Jerash muttered to it, flipping its pages briefly before returning to the first page and preparing a pen.
"You never know what kinds of stories are in you guys." His eyes widened suddenly, a sly grin of realization spreading over his face. "Hey, maybe they've got the... details of the dragon flights - and all that goes with it - recorded in here!" He chuffed, expressing a look reminiscent of a greedy man winning the lottery.
"Jackpot!" He exclaimed, setting the pen down against the page. "I think I'm gonna enjoy this."
Absorbed with trying to find something even a little risqué, Jerash didn't even notice the cramp starting to build in his writing hand.

Kalia didn't particularly like archive chores, but she supposed doing a diversity of chores would stop her getting bored, and since Huath was dozing, she didn't have anything better to do than to sort the books she found into neat piles before even contemplating attempting to read them. Though she wasn't a snobby person by any means, Kalia wasn't about to approach the other male - she had to assume he was a candidate, and Huath wasn't helping matters - considering he seemed to be having a coughing fit from dropping the books on the small table.
There was no more space on the table Kalia had staked out as her working area, the only difference might have been that the tomes were sorted into neat piles, based first on size, and then what content she could decipher on first glance. The largest tomes were set to the sides, while the smaller volumes were set up in three piles across the middle, leaving the open middle space with writing equipment that she'd need when she finished sorting them.
Kalia would have been content to get to her work, if the comments of the other boy in the room hadn't caught her attention, and very quicky her expression went from confusion to pure bewilderment. "They won't have details. Details are a private affair between the riders of the dragons. Flights will be listed as Rider and dragon names only. Why would you even go looking for that stuff?" Kalia had grown up in the weyr, so she knew about flights as well as any weyr child, but there was no way she'd go looking for details about such things, they were private. Even riders were allowed a small amount of privacy.
With that remark delivered, Kalia turned away from him, settling herself in her own chair and pulled the first volume towards her, more than content to settle to her work as she brushed off the layer of dust on the cover and pages.

His pen slowly went over the first few faded characters, eyes squinting due to how indecipherable they were. He didn't even notice that another person was doing archive chores as well until the girl made her opinion clear that his logic was disrespectful. 'Maybe I shouldn't talk to myself out loud anymore,' Jerash thought as he stared at the tip of his pen, a slight grin spreading across his lips. He half-twirled it and then slid it back into its ink well.
"So much for introductions," he muttered under his breath as he turned his head to look over his shoulder at the female who had put him down.
"You don't know how the male mind works, do you?" If she didn't bother to be polite, then he wouldn't be, either. He just wouldn't be rude. Much. "Guys like me have to think this way to keep themselves amused and on task. Especially for something like archive duty. Plus, you've just got to wonder if there are bizarre things in these books."
One corner of his mouth twitched upwards. "If there was stuff like that, I'm sure this archive would be much better taken care of."
His gaze swept over the entire room. By the looks of it, it sure didn't seem as if anybody had found anything amusing yet.
