Flit flight (not to be confused with A FLIGHT)

Mari walked into the Kitchen with a determined look on her face. Tami looked over her mistresses shoulder in a like manner. Placing her hands on her hips, the woman scanned the almost empty room. It was a good five hours till dinner, and no one wanted to be in the hot room unless they had too. Besides, most often people cooked on the heights, in the open kitchens. But Mari wasn't looking for food, she was looking for a flit. And not just any flit, her flit.

Biri had flown into this room to escape his mistresses ministrations. The growing bronze wanted nothing to do with grooming, he was fully capable of washing himself. So while little Tami lounged in the lap of luxury, he snuck out, intent on finding a nice dark corner to nap in. But Mari would have none of that.

"Biri," she crooned, calling to the little bronze, who cowered back in his hiding place. "Momma just wants to make sure you're good an clean and oiled, thats all." Mari said in her "I love you but you're going to do what I say because I'm your mother and I know best" voice. She'd dealt with problem children, children who hated baths, or being babied. She'd handled them easy and this bronze flit would be no different.

Or so she thought. Biri squawked as Mari uncovered his hiding place and darted past her head out into the Dining Hall, where a few people lounged before mealtime.

"Stop that flit!" Mari commanded, pointing a pudgy finger at the bronze dart that flew towards the exit.

The hallway was nearly empty as the young woman stalked down it as if she had a vengeance to deal with, which in turn caused most of the beings in her way to sidestep out of her way. A royal blue splotch on the Raven headed girl's arm marred the overall black look she had created for herself, but it was apparent that the flit was content to stay where he was. Saraina had been at the Weyr for a long time and was considered an honorary Weyrbrat and was also assumed to have F'rah as her foster father, but in all aspects she wasnt... though she, for the most part, knew all of the long term residents of Selenitas.

Dodging a moving ball, the girl passed in front of an open door although the yell that came from it caught her attention. The girl had only seconds to react before something small and bronze came hurdling at her, reaching forward Sara let the flying thing hit her in the chest before closing her arms around it.

Squeals of protest erupted from her little Blue as he was jostled from his resting place and dropped into the air. Luckily he was able to flutter to the side before what ever his Mine had caught had bowled into him.

Biri squirmed in the girls grasp, forgetting in his want to escape his mistress his ingrained ability. Mari came quickly to the girl and took her flit from her.

"Thank you child. This little one was being to feisty for his own good." she held the disgruntled Biri close to her face and talked to him in a non nonsense tone. "You will get a bath and oiling whether you like it or not. You hear me?" she asked. The bronze flit simply stared at her angrily, defiance and retort in his very stance. Mari tucked him firmly under her arm and grinned at the girl, noticing her blue.

"You got one at the Hatching to I see." she said, motioning to the blue on the raven haired girls shoulder.

"No problem Miss Mari... It was more like a reflex." Opening her hand so her Royal Blue flit could land and then climb into her arms, Saraina let a finger wonder down his back. "...Yes, I was at the hatching also. I assume by your flit that you were there also." Shifting slightly as she felt the Headwoman move her eyes onto her, the veteran candidate twitched her nose.

Flapping his wings in annoyance, Zor waited for a moment before landing on his Mine's arm and settling himself in the nook of her arm once more. Flicking his dark blue eyes to the feisty Bronze, the Blue colored flit puffed out his chest slightly.

"Yes I was. I was there to offer food to help the newly bonded feed their flits, but these two liked me too much to stay away." It was nice to have somehting to care for again. Her oldest was turnign 12 turns this summer, and entering that age where your mother is your worst enemy. She had two foster children from rider friends in the weyr, but it wasn't the same. Tami looked down at her brother and chirped in a "I told you she'd find you" sort of way. Biri simply looked up at the content green flit and snorted angily.

"Ah yes. I believe I attracted Zor with one of your meat bowls..." Glancing down the hall from her position from the door, Saraina twitched her nose before pulling her head back into the room. Suddenly an idea popped into her mind, though piggy backed upon it was the feeling of "I can take you on". Shaking her head slightly, Sara cocked an eyebrow at her Flit before turning back to the friendly woman.

"I wonder... Have you seen F'rah recently? I have a bone to pick with him..."

Being on close terms with the Weyrlingmaster, the young woman always forgot to call him by his respectful title. Those slip ups got her in trouble most of the time, but alas she continues to do it despite its throwbacks.

"Weyrlingmaster F'rah?" Mari said, emphasizing the title. She knew the girl was close to the Weyrlingmaster, but she didn't care if she shared his bed, she would use proper titles when in her domain. "No I haven't seen him. But you can always check his office."

Biri scrambled out of his owners grasp and settled reluctantly on her other shoulder. Tami chirped in a "better to just play along." way and settled down on Mari's other shoulder to nuzzle contentedly against her neck and shoulder.

Clearing her throat slightly as she was caught once again not using F'rah's official tittle, Saraina looking sideways slightly.
"Mnnm. Weyrlingmaster F'rah is not in his office... I have already checked there. Its to bad you don't know where he is..." Absentmindedly scratching Zor's eye-ridges, the young woman twitched her nose before speaking again. "Oh well... back to doing nothing." Normally Sara would spend time in her room painting but recently she had not found any inspiration, neither from dragons or humans...

"You have nothing to do?" Mari asked, her voice suddenly loud and boisterous. Her smile was only slightly malicious. "Why don't we head on up top and see what we can find for a strong young lass like yourself to do huh?" she asked, slinging a pudgy arm about the girls empty shoulder, beginning to guide her to the outdoor kitchen.

Blinking as she was wheeled away almost immediately, Saraiana tried to resist the surprisingly strong grip of the Headwoman. "Did I say nothing? I meant... I need to go... clean my room! Oh boy all those wood shavings and paintdrips...." Trying to weasel her way out of getting put to work by the woman, the candidate weaved a tale of need to do's.

Flapping his wings as the other flits got close to him, Zor puffed out his chest and sand a note or two at the green. Being flirtatious with every female flit he sees, the Royal Blue learned how to sing fairly well.
