J’on looked over at Rinagth and bit his lip. The bright green was sleeping on the weyrledge, proudly displaying her glowing hide to all and sundry as she basked in the late morning sun. There was no denying her first Flight was near, that glow that had grown over the past few days could probably be seen by every male dragon around now, just what Rinagth no doubt wanted and probably why she had positioned herself in the sun: for maximum effect. Her behaviour since she started glowing had been abominable, more abominable, far more flirty and far worse tempered with other greens, she was even rude to Emerith and she normally saw the heavier set green to be no competition to her.
His instincts screamed at him that she would Fly when she woke from this unusual nap, but J’on ignored them, mostly because he could do nothing to prevent it, greens Flew, that was how it went and at least with Rinagth he had no chance of ending up anywhere near greenrider Ciara, the bonded of the salamandyr Chatti, who, sadly for J’on was the love of his little Wraith’s life. Well that was a blessing and a curse, he was terrified of Ciara but at least Rinagth wasn’t pulling him into a totally unknown situation.
Thinking of Wraith where was the little- Oh no…
Rinagth’s eyes snapped open, swirling a brilliant combination of violet and ruby hues. She stood and stretched out her glowing body slowly and sensuously, letting sunlight ripple over the golden yellow filaments of colour in her hide. Then, as abruptly as she had woken she threw back her head and roared, springing off the ledge but instead of darting off to start her maiden Flight Rinagth turned and drifted down the canyon, hissing in warning. They weren’t to chase her yet, she wasn’t ready.
J’on paused in his journey to the flightrooms, was it possible he was mistaken? But no Rinagth had something else in mind first. The green dropped abruptly over the feeding grounds and only then did J’on realise what his green was about. But greens didn’t need to blood…
Rinagth circled low over the herd, taking pleasure in the rightful fear that these poor beasts had of her then she dropped and struck, binding her talons into a tender young bull and bearng him downward without killing him, yet. For a moment Rinagth paused, jaws open and ready to strike, watching her lowing struggling captive, then with a swift motion tore the beast apart with talons and teeth before blooding what was left. Now they could chase her! Rinagth leapt skyward, this time not with a roar but with an inviting, playful warble. Where were they then, her males, hadn’t they seen her?

Luckily for J'on, Wraith was no where to be seen unless you happened to be in Ciara's weyr, but what was not lucky for the poor boy was the dragon that has decided to Chase the lovely Rina was none other then Triniath whose rider was a good friend of Ciara. Such as small world.
As it was, Triniath had been watching Rinagth from afar for the last few days, and Sk'ler knew it. Unlike another rider who might of taken his dragon else where, Sk'ler simply accepted defeat before there was even a fight. His Brown was a determined dragon, and not even distance would force the Brown to ignore the shining Green. He had the ability to between places in the blink of an eye, so there was no bother to attempt stopping the Brown, and here Sk'ler had thought that having a Brown with a similar temperament would have meant very few Flights. Not so much.
Triniath shifted his body quiet, but Sk'ler still looked up to watch him from his desk. As always, the Brown was staring off in to the Green's direction, and the man had to fight the urge to chuck something at him and see what happens. Most likely Triniath would ignore it and continue staring in the soon-to-Rise Green's direction. Why can't you pick a Green we both agree on? I Chase that which is beautiful. Triniath replied sagely, and Sk'ler glared mutinously at the male. "And I thought having a dragon would be nice." Soltun rubbed his head vigorously against Sk'ler's cheek, and the man smiled.
"At least you and Joolree aren't that bad." He turned to glance at the sea foam green fire-lizard sleeping soundly on his bed. Nearby, on his dresser, a very small pile of eggs lay in a big mound of cloth. Sk'ler hadn't bothered getting any sand for the little things, and Joolree hadn't been upset with that. Her eggs never Hatched anyways, and a drudge would come by and collect them later. Then, the sudden burst of lust in his body and a Green's roar in the distance caused Sk'ler to stumble to his feet and race towards his dragon's ledge. The Brown had already launched himself into the weyrledge and was soaring towards.... The Feeding Grounds? Sk'ler muttered darkly and threw himself into the Flight.
Triniath chuckled as his rider didn't resist, and with the backing of his Chosen, the Brown pushed himself a little more. He came to Catch the lovely Rinagth, to open her eyes to the beauty of a mate. Like the times he had Chased before, Triniath didn't utter anything to the lovely Green that was now the center of his universe, but he did begin to quiet hum a love song, not the one for Phremath for that one was special, but a different one His had begun to favor lately, and with the tune fresh in his mind, the Brown landed near the Feeding Grounds, and watched with admiration as Rinagth dared Blood like a Queen. When she finally finished, and while the Brown ignored any who might have appeared to Chase her, Triniath ran a few steps before launching himself after her. He would win!

Kaaoloth’s head lifted at the green's call and he bugled a response before throwing himself off his ledge and pumping his wings hard. Sel’n was walking to his weyr when the lust hit. He winced and touched Kaaoloth’s mind. Who is it? He was not surprised the brown had decided to chase. It had been a long time since Kaaoloth had won and the brown craved satisfaction. In fact the rider fully expected him to chase until he won.
The three legged dragon rumbled and said one word Rinagth. Sel’n's blood froze. Kaao that is one of the recently graduated weyrlings. His mind mate however refrained from answering and Sel’n pushed the thought from his mind. Nothing he could do about it now anyway. The older rider headed for the flight rooms and Vanity, utterly confused as to what was happening, leapt from her bonded and landed in the dust. Giving a hiss she scampered into a nearby weyr. What was happening?
Kaaoloth crooned to Rinagth as he approached her from behind, not wishing to startle her. The other brown he paid no attention to. May the best man or in this case dragon win.

Shard that idiotic boy for going and getting himself killed! She was supposed to go running with him, but how could she run with a dead guy!? Savagely kicking a close by bucket so that it soared a good distance from her, Saraina snarled in grief, hidden under the guise of frustration. It was how the Bluerider dealt with the foreign emotion, she turned it into anger and did whatever she could to drain all of her energy so she could sleep well at night. "Shard T'kal... go and get yerself poisoned... great plan!" Each pause in her words were permeated by another spiteful kick of the wooden bucket, a rather ironic way to release her anger. The Bluerider slumped forward so her hands rested on her knees, taking breathing deeply to recover the rest of the air she needed. Saraina had decided to stay within the boundaries of the Weyr, not wanting to have her weekly run interrupted by an attack of one sort or another. She now stood at the top of the drumheights. "Gah... I didn't even get to say... good... BYE." The last kick sent the water bucket over the edge of the cliff and hurdling down toward the ground below, hopefully there wouldn't be anyone in the way. Growling to herself, Saraina quickly began to descend the steps, only to have to grasp at the wall in shock.
/Rinagth rises.../ Spreading his wings as the roar hit his senses, Hokth leaped nimbly to his feet with a quiet hiss. A Green was Rising, and it had been so long since he had tried his hand at wooing a female, it was certainly time to try it again. Spreading his long wings as he dropped off of his ledge, the Teal colored Blue angled himself upward, so he could breach the canyon walls. He would watch and wait for Rinagth to drink her fill of blood, Blooding Greens were always an exhilarating spectacle, it made them seem more wild in Hokth's eyes. Returning the Green's warble as she leapt into the sky, the Blue whipped his tail in agitation as he finally spotted his competition so far. No, no he would not busy himself in the petty matters. Rinagth was the biggest piece to the puzzle, and if Hokth wanted to be the one to finish it, he would have to concentrate on only the Queen of the Skies. Otherwise... he'd fail again.
Reaching out with his mind to brush the Green's, just to let her know he was there for her, the Blue tucked his wings in slightly so he could move faster. Happily taking his place behind the Green in all of her Maiden Glory. He would follow her to Rukbat and back if he had to, just to prove himself worthy of her attentions. He was a handsome Male after all!
No! She wasn't ready for the effects of a Flight, especially not at this very moment! But it was too late and the sooner she accepted that the sooner she could get off the stairs without killing herself. Skipping every other stair in her haste to get down, the Bluerider jumped off of the last few stairs and slammed onto the ground, tucking into a shoulder roll to reduce the damage of hitting the solid earth. It wasn't fair that she was always so far away from the Flightrooms when Hokth decided to up and Chase a female without warning. Now it would take her precious time to catch up to the rest of the contenders. But by being a Blue, she was faster than some of the Browns... maybe she'd make it before both of them got there.

Yes, Rinagth exulted, there they were, they knew how wonderful she was, how deserving of the devotion of their every breath. But they were not worthy! No indeed, no male could be worthy of her. Rinagth lashed her tail and spun about to face her males hissing spitefully, unworthy, unworthy, unworthy! With a cry of rage she flew right at her chasers, talons at the ready only to change her mind and pull up before actually colliding with anyone, she didn’t want to break them quite yet.
Rising at a near vertical angle Rinagth called mockingly, could any of them follow her? She didn’t think so, they were big stupid clumsy males, no grace in any of them. None at all. Up and up she went, as far as she could despite the burn of effort in her flight muscles, even sustained as she was by blooding this steep climb was tiring. How would her males weather it? They were not as agile as she and nowhere near as wonderful.
Feeling she had proved her strength well enough for now Rinagth levelled out and glanced behind her. Were they still with her? Good! They had Rinagth now, and she was better than any queen!
J’on smiled predatorily at the arriving riders, seeing handsome dragons rather than humans, and they were all his! He looked coyly at them from behind lowered lashes, oh they were wonderful, he adored having such power over them… Now what to do with it…
((urgh, urgh Kisha sucks.))

Kaaoloth’s eyes widened as the green suddenly turned aggressive. He folded his wings and dropped below her, monitoring her movements carefully. A rough one this queen was. The large brown bugled in response to her challenge. He would win this vicious sky queen. He pumped his large wings hard as he ascended, finding it rather easy to keep with her. For now.. Pulling up to her left, a few dragon lengths away, he flexed his own talons and rolled to display his battle torn hide. He could teach her all about fury if she would take him. He kept her close but still kept distance between them in case she turned again.
Sel’n/Kaaoloth circled his lovely green a low lusty growl coming from his throat. How lovely and vicious she was. It made him want her even more. He stepped back after circling her once and watched her carefully. Once such as this bared watching closely. If he let her leave his sight he may have the scars to regret it. It was a game of cat and mouse and she, she was the lovely feline.

He did not acknowledge the other males, mostly ignoring them except for occasionally noting how they were doing in the Chase. Triniath did not attempt any complicated or strenuous tricks, staying with his dogged determination not to fall behind. Which happened to be easier in this Flight because of the Green's inexperience, but that was no excuse to not fly his best, and that was not what Triniath planned. He would prove his worth to this lovely Queen of Greens and show her the beauty of Flight. Even as he soared after Rinagth, Triniath continued to hum his song quietly, beginning again every time he came to the end.
When the Green suddenly turned on her Chasers, Triniath faltered for a moment, but he steadied and simply slowed slightly so he wouldn't collide with Rinagth. Her unexpected switch from lust to rage was unnerving, but the Brown refused to be dissuaded from the Chase because of it. Rinagth was young, and it was her first Flight. She would not be used to the emotions, the Brown was sure, so he kept flying although a tad slower until the Green turned away and began a near vertical climb.
While he may not have been a very agile Green, Triniath was built for difficult climbs in the sky. He pulled upwards swiftly and beat his wings heavily for a few moments as he forced his large bulk upward. The Brown corkscrewed for several seconds, pulling himself to the side because of the sudden movement. He may not have the largest Brown or the strongest ever, but he was strong and Trin would follow Rinagth wherever she went no matter the cost. As the lovely Green leveled out, Triniath began to do so also. Now what would the tricky vixen do this time to test her Chasers?
As for Sk'ler, he too saw those around him as dragons, but his main focus was the beautiful green lovely in the center of the room. Her pose was teasing, taunting, and Sk'ler wanted more then anything to reach out and pull the creature close. Shaking his head for a moment, the Brownrider forced himself to remain where he was, but he did begin to quietly hum the same song Triniath sang for Rinagth. It was considerably better then the Brown's, but Sk'er had hummed the tune before while Triniath had. Oh well. What really mattered was the lovely J'on/Rinagth, and the Brownpair would not either of the lovely Greens escape their grasp.

Oh, look at Kaaoloth, he was handsome with that battle scarred hide, Rinagth kept her eye on the brown as he rolled and flexed those wicked talons. But the others were also fine dragons in their different ways, Hokth was agile and a wonderful colour, and Triniath sang a beautiful song for her. Rinagth considered all her suitors, not willing yet to dismiss any one dragon from consideration.
The green’s sharp accent had taken her above the waterfall, putting her in mind of a trick she had often seen performed. With another of her sudden changes of direction Rinagth headed for the falls at her best speed and folded her wings as she flew out over the edge of the falls. However instead of diving for the lower level of the river Rinagth flicked her wings out after only a few seconds of falling and sped away from the falls rumbling with laughter.
Without even glancing to see who followed she climbed again, taking amore convoluted path than a straight climb, zigzagging this way and that. Then she did dive, head first for the ground, once again with her talons outstretched as if to strike at anything in her way. Were her dragons brave enough to fall like this, to lose control? Oh they had better be if they wanted her! Rinagth pulled up sharply, so low that her tail brushed through a tree or two, stripping off leaves and vexing the green greatly. Inconvenient vegetation!
J’on stalked and wove around his dragons, bestowing a light touch here, a hiss there, promising everything and bestowing nothing. Suddenly he stepped sideways and pressed against S’len/Kaaoloth, but before the brown could take any action J’on skipped away with the speed of a green, circling Saraina/Hokth, now there was a fine looking blue, and moving off again to ran a teasing hand over Sk’ler/Triniath’s shoulders. All wonderful but were they worthy?

Tucking his wings in even further, Hokth angled to the side as Rinagth went into a surprising offensive. But as with all Greens, this one was as tricky as ever, pulling up at the last moment before breaking first Ichor. Up she went, and so did he, extending his unusually long wings. Hokth's wings had always been a tricky thing to deal with, beautiful, but tricky. Climbing certainly wasn't his forte, but what he lacked there he made up for quick maneuvers in flight. He was also quite handsome, so that had to make up for something too... didn't it?
Grateful to the current Queen of his Affections as she leveled off, Hokth folded his wings in carefully. Dipping down as Rinagth dropped over the edge of the falls, Hokth rumbled more to himself than anything. What was it with Greens and doing precision maneuvers over the waterfall? It seemed like every time he rose to Chase, the beautiful female decided to take them over the lip of the canyon and straight at the water.
Instantly he breached the layer of mist letting himself drop down from the mouth of the falls, but it was only a quick glimmer of green that prevented him from going the whole way. Oh crafty, crafty! Maybe this Queen of the Sky was far superior to the others that had tried to claim her place. Opening his wings wider so as to maximize his use of the air currents around the Falls, Hokth did a small roll to the side. It wouldn't hurt to show that he was deft at controlling his body... but he had to immediately change direction once more, for they were climbing again. Again, Hokth had to twist his body into another direction, doing his best to follow all of Rinagth's zigs and zags.
He felt himself angling for a dive even before his mind told him too, instinctively bringing his wings in close to his body. Following in the Queen of the Sky's wing beats, Hokth pulled up from the dive, his tail hitting on the top branches of the canopy. Sure he wasn't as powerful as a Brown, but he was (for the most part) as fluid as water. Can't Rinagth see he was far better than those lumbering Browns?
---
The Green. All Saraina/Hokth could think about was the flitting creature before them. She had been late, and had been ashamed, but all other emotions faded when the need took their place. Rinagth was beautiful, sleek and pretty. Hokth didn't care if the Green teased her, as long as she had his attention, it was perfectly fine.
Tensing slightly as Rinagth circled her, Hokth crooned slightly, her voice higher than the others in the room. She was special, couldn't the ethereal one see that? She was sleek and agile, not bulky or over muscular. Reaching out, only to have the Green dance away, Hokth rumbled with appreciation. Yes, this was not the time to choose. She wanted to play more... there was plenty of time to choose. The pretty gem didn't want to pick the wrong suitor, so Hokth would oblige. The Blue liked gazing on him anyways.

Kaaoloth watched her dive and he crowed in adoration for her. Such a crafty clever young thing. He dropped after her letting the rising mist cool his wings. The brown pulled up below his lovely, angling his wings to catch the rising steam from the waterfall. He coasted below her for a bit marveling at her mastery of the air and when she rose, he beat his wings to follow.
The large brown widened her zigzags and leveled out just as the green dove. He executed a side roll and dropped after her in a controlled dive pulling up safely at the level of the treetops. He was not as agile as the blue, or the sky queen of his affections but he was strong. He used that strength to keep her close powering after her but always keeping a few respectable dragon lengths behind.
She would be the one to choose. He was not the type to push her into choosing early. Let her enjoy her glorious flight for it was hers and they just mere witnesses to it. Until of course she choose which to share herself with.
Sel’n/Kaaoloth groaned low as the lovely green chose to touch him. Was he chosen? He blinked and whimpered as she suddenly pulled away to flirt with her other suitors. No she was not ready to choose yet. The brown longed to touch her but held back. She was feisty and he had no desire to be on the receiving end of her claws. Not unless he asked for it.

If he was a lumbering Brown, then Hokth must have been a stick thin Blue. He may not possess the gracefulness his Blue and Green brethren called their own, but he was still a very competent flier and he had a vast store of stamina because of his larger size. As it was, Triniath wasn't paying any attention to his fellow Chasers except for the occasional cursory glance, but he was always watching Rinagth at least out of the corner of his dark purple eye.
Her hide rippled with life, or really, normally not-as-noticeable golden filaments. The unusual beauty could be compared to veins of color in a normally standard gem, and that would make the lovely gem even more precious. Along with the glow of a Mating Flight, her coloring was outstanding, a beacon even in the light of the sun. A small croon bubbled up past Triniath's melody and out into the open air where it was ripped away as the Brown switched directions moments after Rinagth dove down the waterfall.
Because of his unfortunately larger bulk, the Brown found it much more difficult to change his momentum on the fly, but he somehow managed to even though the move was sadly without any grace. His song was momentarily cut short as he struggled to balance himself, and the moment he did so, the little tune returned where he had left off. It was difficult to hum his song and navigate through the obstacles the Green threw up in their path, and yet he managed. Luckily.
While his Brown companion could Chase and try to Impress the (green) apple of their eye, Sk'ler was reluctantly forced to remain earth-bound. Sure, he was only half-conscious of his limitations, but it did severely limit what he could do to Impress the tantalizing Green in front of him. The lovely lady in the sky did make the final choice, but Her gorgeous counterpart did have a say in it. His eyes narrowed, and a silent growl built up in his chest as they received the attention, but the anger quickly turned to unadulterated joy as the precious lady appeared at his side.

Rinagth risked glance behind and was well pleased to see all of her dragons still faithfully following her, all eyes, whirling in shades of purple glory, fixed on her. As it should be! Was she not the most beautiful dragon ever to grace Pern’s skies? Of course she was!
With that thought Ringath spun off in a new direction, as fast as she could manage, which was not as fast as she hoped, even with blooding the green was coming to the end of her strength. She pushed herself at top speed all the way back along the river’s course, climbing steadily as she did so. It was clear that the time for her choice had come, all her fancy flying had only worn her down more quickly.
With her eyes on her males Rinagth sideslipped and caught a rising thermal, spiralling upward. Which of them would she bestow her favour on? Agile Hokth? Handsome Trinath? Scarred Kaaoloth? For a long moment she considered, then flew at a male. Kaaoloth. Her Kaaoloth, so handsome, so brave looking… The green twined herself around the brown with an admiring croon and perhaps a little more strength than was really needed.
In the same instant as Rinagth made her choice J’on, totally comsumed by his dragon’s Flight, threw himself on S’len with a low feral growl. His brown…

Kaaoloth followed the green as she backtracked up the river climbing higher into the sky. Her speed was faltering and the large brown could tell she would make her choice soon. As he drew closer to the stunning beauty she suddenly dropped and turned to fly….straight to him! He had been chosen! He crooned lovingly to her as she twined with him. Kaaoloth flung his wings wide as he twined his neck and tail tightly with hers. His sky queen. His ferocious mistress of the clouds. He would carry her true. She would never need any other.
Sel’n growled back at J’on as he threw himself at him. His mouth lowered to claim the other riders in a fierce display of possessiveness. She was his and he would show her the adoration he felt for his wild queen. The older rider picked the smaller man up, albeit a bit awkwardly with having only one arm to work with, and began to stride towards the bed.
