The old gold wher plodded through the woods at dawn, looking around. She had been hiding beneath fallen trees during her journey all these weeks to protect her sensitive eyesight, yet now, none were to be found. She let out a few clicks before stumbling into a clearing. She had already begun to lid her eyes, with the sun rising, and now was desperate. She also felt the clutch inside her begin to make motions. She needed to lay her eggs and protect her eyes. Trying to pick up the pace, she kept to the edge of the clearing. A cave, dead trees, anywhere... She paused in her meanderings. She heard something. A waterfall. Hope was rekindled in the old queen. Sometimes, when her old bonded spoke to her, it was about Selenitas Weyr, a place with dragons on the waterfall. Caves would surely be here. Picking up her pace, her dull golden egg-heavy body pushed on. She needed to find someplace before sunrise to rest and lay her eggs. She doubted that she was well enough to find a new bonded before her time came, but if there were people here, there would be places for her children to do so.
Getting back into the woods, the sound of the waterfall got louder, and the sun got brighter. Breaking into a waddle-run, she darted around the trees toward the source. However, it caused her contractions to start. Howling in pain as she felt an egg break out of her, she keened as the fragile thing smashed on a root. She needed to hurry, before she lost any more...
Finally! The woods were gone! Exhausted, she hobbled over to the first building she saw, and grunted with relief as the door was half open. Pushing it fully open with her snout, she ambled inwards, pausing a moment, to let her eyes readjust to the dark. Sure, there were glows, but there was no heat. This was a relief to the old queen. She was safe. Now, to give her clutch the same protection... Hobbling along the hall, she looked at each door, her instincts taking over to find the best. Now... this one looked very nice. It was clean, perfectly so. The bed was made, it would be easy to get to, and oh, the bed looked so very soft... Room 07. Perfect.
Entering in, she hissed as another contraction hit her. Biting the dresser to keep from crying out, the next egg slid out perfectly. Crooning, she nuzzled the red and white egg. It was small, but perfect. Looking around to the other bed, she wandered over, pulling the blankets and sheet off to come place around the beginnings of her brood. Yet the second bed she would keep to herself. She was ever-so-weary.
--
All of the eggs were out by noon. It was a fast clutching, perhaps induced by so much physical activity. The queen crooned from her position on K'lir's bed, cuddled around a golden egg. She was exhausted. Apart from that egg, six other eggs lie on the floor, surrounded by all the soft things that the old queen could find. Blankets, sheets, clothes stolen from the dresser, from the dresser that she had knocked over and bitten, of course. Closing her eyes, she soon slipped into sleep, not realizing this room belonged to others already.
