Well, the Hatching had begun, and nothing interesting had happened... that A'en could see. Not that he could see much; all the people in front of him were taller than him, and he didn't even know which eggs had hatched. He sighed, because there was no chance of him Impressing from back here. Ayisseth's presence in the back of his mind shifted forward somewhat. Mine, you seem... frustrated. Yes, I seem frustrated. Just look at this! I can't see anything.[/i] The presence in A'en's head shifted forward more, to just behind his eyes, and he felt like someone else was looking out. Of course, it was probably his imagination. Hmm, Mine. You are right. Come to the river with me? A'en shrugged. No thanks, Ayisseth.
A'en returned to watching the crowd in front of him, nothing better to do, when someone, one of the other Weyrlings, shifted out of place a little bit. There was a space now! A'en darted forward to get closer, and he could make out the eggs now. He sighed as he saw that more than half had already Hatched. He had missed the entire first part! He groaned, but kept watching the table. If U'un came back, well, he could just watch over A'en's head, not that it would be that hard. There was a green that had Hatched, but it was too far away for A'en to feed. He'd just have to wait until one came over closer his way.

The first thing she noticed was that all the flitters seemed to be going around her. This shook Cezine's usually steadfast confidence in herself, causing her to wonder briefly if there was some sort of defect within her that turned flits--and dragons--away. It would certainly explain why she hadn't Impressed at either of the two Hatchings she'd previously been a part of. She watched as both of the flits who had been present ignored the meat she offered and lunged at other people (she didn't pay any attention to who they went to), then more hatched and still none came to her. The Candidate was somewhat perplexed; was she doing something wrong? Did she need to be closer? Shells, she was practically lying on the table with the clutch! Or maybe she was coming off as too desperate...?
Before she could ponder further, however, something--or someone--darted around her and there was a heavy thud as someone hit a wall. Straightening, Cezine looked toward Marra and Kaliran; what was she doing to him? Words of protest died on her tongue as Marra retreated, however, Cezine edged toward the boy "Are you all right?" He didn't seem hurt; more embarrassed than anything else. But look, he'd Impressed a flitter! It was the little blue. She smiled. "He's adorable." What a silly name! But she wasn't going to say anything like that aloud. Cezine didn't look the least bit bitter or jealous toward her fellow Candidate, but the truth was, the Impression rankled her somewhat. He already had a flit of his own. She didn't blame him, just luck... and whatever it was that apparently made flitters choose one person over another, though she didn't think they were supposed to be that finicky. Well, they were related to dragons, so...
Rather than getting fed up or giving up, it only made Cezine more determined. There were still several eggs left unhatched; surely if she persisted, one of them might hold something for her!

"Yes, I know Z'hin." At the sound of the name, Paryal smiled softly, though she quickly coughed and tried to hide that as much as possible. A Turn from now, she reminded herself. A full Turn from now, and then she could think like this. For now, it simply wasn't safe. Besides, from the sound of the tone of Marra's voice, she held no fondness for the rider. What had he done to her? Likely she had just perceived something he did as incorrect. Perhaps she just didn't like him. Either way, Paryal was incapable of seeing Z'hin in the wrong. She knew him better than that, though her judgment may have been a bit clouded.
When the little bronze had chosen his bonded, Paryal felt absolutely no disappointment in his choice. A bronze would have been too much for her to handle. She had simply wanted him to shut his mouth and stop all his noise and fuss. With that now accomplished, she could go about her business of watching the other new hatchlings. Time after time they went by her, but Paryal didn't find her confidence falling. She had Fairamay (and Aezanth, of course). On top of that, Fairamay would have been furious if Paryal had Impressed to a male fire lizard. Her hatred of males hadn't decreased at all since she had been caught by that little bronze. It hadn't increased either, but it was still there.
Just as Paryal was thinking about what Fairamay would do to her should a male somehow bond to her, something ran into her boot. Bending down, Paryal suddenly found herself staring eye to eye with a fine little brown. He was trilling happily, though that was increasingly turning into trills of hunger. Instantly she felt that sudden jerk that indicated Impression. By now it was almost familiar, amusingly enough. "You... You're mine?" The implications of what her green would do to the brown was lost to Paryal's mind as she gazed at his happy little eyes. He was simply the most beautiful little grown she had ever seen, his hide uniformly dark with egg goo. What would he look like when he was dry? Apparently Paryal had been thinking too much and not feeding the brown fast enough. "Okay, okay!" Laughing at his hungry cries, Paryal scooped up the brown into her arms.
"What shall I name you?" Stuffing the brown's open maw with meat, the Weyrling pondered over what his name would be. Names were important things. They held weight. Fairamay fit her name, strangely enough. Aezanth, though not named by Paryal, could never be anything but Aezanth. But what would he be? "Misrah. Your name is Misrah." He seemed happy with his name, trilling once more, though that could just be attributed to the fact he was full. Now that that was over with, Paryal searched over the sea of heads for Z'hin. When she finally pushed through the crowds to the brown Weyrling, she thrust out the fire lizard for him to examine. What had happened a few days ago was nowhere evident on her face. This was simply the act of a proud 'mother' showing off her newest child. "His name is Misrah." Looking up at the brownrider, Misrah made his own greeting, before struggling back to cling to Paryal's chest.

As soon as Jabari's little belly was full, the brown clawed his way up Muta's tunic, wrapping a strangely strong tail around the small boy's neck as he nestled beneath the fabric. Mutasim stroked the flitter's skull and neck carefully with one finger, feeling the small creature calm against his upper chest. Poor timid Jabari. Timid, but still just a bit curious, as the brown poked his head out just above Muta's collar, watching the insanity with blue-green eyes. As long as he was coiled around Muta, feeling his heat and the strength of his pulse, Jabari was bold enough to look out on the world. His would protect him! All of these big things were so scary, though, and it was loud.
As for the candidate himself...Mutasim just found himself searching the sea of faces around him, both familiar and unfamiliar, trying to tell if all of these people felt the same way he did. It was humbling to be chosen. Humbling and so very exhilarating, and, though there was no emotion in his face anymore, something in his eyes was strangely young at that moment, such that many might not recognize him upon seeing them. His life had seemed so horribly pointless for so long. Now, there was something else that relied on him and only him to care for it. Mutasim had rediscovered his purpose.
Z'hin stared at the two curiously. They looked rather cute, the dark, still wet brown head lingering just beneath the candidate's chin, the rest of his body lost from sight. His coloring was the same as his bonded's eyes. They matched. How...odd. Then he found his attention being drawn toward the front, where things seemed to have gone mad. Frowning slightly, he wondered what could have caused it, hearing Marra's screeching rise above the general rumblings of the crowd and rolling his eyes. Couldn't she just be civil for once? It had surprised him to note that she and Rawign seemed to be comfortable around each other. Last he'd seen of them, they'd been about to rip each other new ones.
Paryal came up out of his blindspot. Z’hin jumped slightly, the little brown having been thrust before his face completely unexpectedly, his wide eyes darting to the goldweyrling before a chuckle escaped him. So. She’d managed to Impress a little brown flitter, too! Unlike Muta’s timid Jabari, Misrah was at least brave enough to face him for a moment, trilling a greeting. “Hi there, Misrah. Whatever possessed you to choose this loon?” His eyes flitted up to her face, seeing if he’d gotten a reaction from his teasing. “Well, I suppose it can’t be helped,” he murmured in mock regret, shrugging expressively. Z’hin’s smile betrayed his genuine happiness for his friends. Both seemed quite enraptured by the new additions to their families.

Chaos... well, Uu'n liked it... if and only if he was the cause. This whole not-knowing business was rather irritating. Backing carefully away from the front, the Hail Egg cradled carefully, Uu'n put one hand on top of the other, forming a little egg-pod, as the tiny white thing seemed perfectly willing to roll right off of his hands and only careful movement had prevented it so far. Well, Adith could taste sweetbreads later. Hopefully the stuff would be filling enough for whatever hatched out... or he could just swipe a bowl of meat from one of the desperates mucking about in the front. Quite pretty.
The blueweyrling noted Z'hin and Mutasim, possibly the only two Candidates he actually had any contact with. His lack of friends didn't bother him, any more than he had been bothered by breaking into the Weyrlingmaster's office... and the Weyrlingsecond's office... repeatedly. Rubbing his nose on his shoulder to rid himself of an itch, Uu'n kept a wary eye on the proceedings. Shards, but everyone was so... so... loud. Used to the quiet of night, this riot scene was an assault on delicately tuned ears, and Uu'n would have left, but for the meat.
Actually... not a bad idea. Sauntering away, Uu'n headed for the kitchen, plopping onto a counter with a good view of the melee over the eggs, and, conveniently enough, the large bin of meat-scraps. Adith would get his new taste after all... Peeking into his hands, he watched with interest as the shell cracked and rolled around madly, keeping tabs on what was going on in the Main Hall while abstaining from any of that mess. Chaos was fun. Injuries... were not. At least, not when it was Uu'n getting injured.

Halyn and Leyan entered, breathless from running to get there in time. Hopefully the firelizard Hatching hadn't ended yet. Leyan glanced down at his oldest sister. He found it ironic and amusing that he one day tower over her by nearly a foot. However, her size was misleading. She was a very intelligent young woman with a strong will and big heart. And he loved her for it.
His dark eyes gleamed as he glanced at the eggs. It would be so wonderful to Impress one of them. For once he didn't mind being later. There would be other firelizard clutches and it wasn't like a dragon Hatching where there was only one right person for the dragonet. There weren't very many eggs left. Still, he smiled and took his place in the gathered crowd, accepting a bowl of meat from a Lower Caverns worker.
Halyn didn't glance at Leyan. All her attention was on the firelizard eggs. This was so exciting! Would it be at all like a dragon Hatching? She had always found firelizards to be beautiful and now she had a chance to get one of her own. It would be nice to have one to keep her company and help deliver messages and other little things like that. And caring for it would be good practice if- no, when- she Impressed.
There weren't too many eggs left. There would be other chances to Impress a firelizard so she didn't mind so much. It would be nice just to see what it was like and maybe meet some more of the Weyr inhabitants. She glanced around, curious about who was there. After a nod and smile to those she recognized, she turned her attention back to the eggs and took a bowl of meat with a murmured "thank you." Now all she could do was wait and watch...

As the Raindrops Green anxiously sat, staring up at the big people around her, out of nowhere tumbled and egg onto this unsuspecting creature. Realizing to late, the poor green shrieked in fear as the Black Seas Egg fell onto her, scaring the living daylights out of the green-yellow hatchling. With a trembling heave, the hatchling shoved the egg off of her, sending it splintering before her. The timid green started shaking, and with good reason. The creature within this egg was not pleased with her rude hatching.
The Black Seas Green rose slowly, giving the Raindrops Green a death glare. Shaking herself free of the shards, the Raindrops Green knew what to do. Turning immediately, the lighter of the greens knew she had to leg it. The Black Seas Green shook herself free of any loose shards, immediately stepping one foot out to follow the flitter she was mad at, only to slip in the process. Hissing in anger, the green righted herself awkwardly and absolutely charged after the terrified Raindrop Green.
Fortunately, she found her savior. Desperately clawing at Marra, she chattered in fright, her dainty little head looking over her shoulder at the green that was chasing her. Realizing her target was out of reach, the Black Seas Green clicked in irritation, proceeding to wrap her tail around Rawign’s leg. He happened to be close by, and she would be able to keep track of the Raindrop Egg in the meantime…
As all of this happened, a slightly less dramatic hatching occurred. The White Waves Egg gracefully fell onto its side, almost by accident. Giving a startled cheep, he extracted himself from his egg, looking at it curiously before facing the crowd. As if he hadn’t noticed them before, he almost toppled back into the shards, but managed to right himself before doing so completely. Doing a little hop-skip (and nearly tripping again) over to the crowd of people he suddenly realized something:
He was very hungry.
Creeling over-dramatically, he made a scene of weakly crawling up to Cezine’s shoe, nuzzling it while letting out a long, supposedly hard-to-make croon. If it wasn’t so obviously theatrics, one might have worried for the little blue. However, it wasn’t so. He simply was a very talented actor… sort of.
On yet another egg, the Wind-Whipped Egg, a chip fell away to the floor, and the rolling egg squashed it moments later. On closer examination, one might notice the extremely bright shading of green beneath, but its time had not yet come. Something else was coming into the world.
In Uu’n’s hands, the rocking egg finally splitting into two pieces, curling into his fingers. What lay there was something so incredible that it would be a wonder if Uu’n did not drop this hatchling to the floor in anxiety. The wet, smooth hatchling stirred, and from the moment she opened her eyes, it was clear that this was not a flitter. An amazingly long tail draped along Uu’n’s hand, and it’s color? Gold.
This odd creature looked up at Uu’n with remarkable lovingness for one so strange. Her round head was nowhere near the dainty bulge of a flitter skull. In addition, two little beady eyes looked out, pink and gold in her love for Uu’n so apparent. She knew that she belonged to Uu’n even before she was fed, though food would be nice. Twining her long tail about Uu’n’s arm tightly, she fluttered the flaps at the top of her head, flaps that could flare into frill in tense moments. Her wings were dainty, too small to hold up her heavyset, round body, but her legs were well made, with sharp little claws carefully not latching into Uu’n’s skin.
Is mine,[/color] she managed to say with tired satisfaction. Is mine own Uu’n. Is Mine has food? Food nice, she told him, fanning her wet frill slightly, letting it flume up, with intricate bronze marking written very carefully into it. Seeming not to notice how strange it was that she could speak, she nuzzled his hand tenderly. She was better than those flitters.
--
Marra had not the faintest idea why Rawign had called her back even as she came back to him. That stupid boy had disrespected their clutch. What was she supposed to do? Just let him get away with it? Surely Rawign knew her better than that! Never would she let a stupid little boy get away with calling attention away from the creatures she had taken care of so carefully! Grimacing, she folded her arms to lean against the wall, ignoring the buzz in her head from all the people in the room. She shifted uncomfortably, feeling sweat form on her forehead.
She nearly jumped as she felt Rawign put a hand on her shoulder. Giving him a measuring look, she thought for a moment. He wasn’t the sort to try and offered comfort, but then again, he cared about her… Changing her look of confusion into one of gratefulness, she looked back down to the clutch, wishing she were better with crowds so Rawign wouldn’t need to save the day any more. For some reason, though, some part of her didn’t mind his touch, rather like the comfort of it. Her breathing was still hard, but it was better knowing that there was a support so close by.
How nice it would be to get to just hole up by herself after this! She could eat, then sleep a lot to try and recover from this thing. Without a doubt, she would be in a horrible mood after this. Food and sleep, she decided, were the perfect treatment to such an ordeal. Of course, she didn’t expect to Impress. She was not worthy of attracting a flitter’s attention, despite how much she desired one. No matter- she could live without them.
To her surprise, however, fate had different plans in store for her. Staring at the flitter that had come to her so fearfully, Marra didn’t hesitate in lifting the frightened creature off the ground. “Oh, sweetie,” she cooed, unwittingly letting a soft side to her be seen. Reaching for some meat from a nearby bowl, she patiently offered some to the little green. With a worried peep, the flitter at first rejected, but with Marra’s insistence, she allowed some food to be inserted into her mouth.
When the flitter saw this food was settling her stomach, the green crooned, wrapping her tail around Marra’s wrist loosely, diving at each handful Marra offered the hatchling. Fascinated, the harper continued doing so, feeling drained with each bite her flitter took. Marra didn’t realize that she was slowly sinking to the floor as she did so, incredulity and love for the green creature in her arms, added to the hustle and bustle of the people around her that had made her anxious to begin with, all completely draining her.
As the creature fell asleep, Marra sighed, leaning her head against the wall as she looked up at Rawign. “You got one, too,” she murmured, closing her eyes. How easy it was to succumb to something that beckoned like sleep did! “I’m calling her Desdemona,” she told him groggily, on a whim. With sweat still in beads along her forehead and clutching Desdemona to her chest, it didn’t take the harper long to slip into dreams.

"Yes he is," Kaliran agreed happily as he continued to feed the little blue in his arms. Little Maris ate contentedly, his eyes whirling in excitement at the food. He flapped his wings animatedly against Kaliran's chest as he was fed, and the boy laughed at him, rubbing the little blue affectionately. No doubt he was going to be a charmer, and Chipper was obviously very excited to see him. The green gave a delighted flute. "Aren't you, Maris? Yes, you're positively wonderful." He agreed completely with the statements as he fed the firelizard, oblivious to Cezine moving off. In fact, he was oblivious to everything else around him as he babbled nonsensically at the firelizard in his arms. It didn't matter if he looked ridiculous, cooing to a little firelizard as he fed him, though once Maris was full, the blue curled up in the bend of his elbow and promptly went to sleep despite the noise. Pfft! He'd sit and coo all he wanted. He was perfect.
---
Keliris knelt down to peer around everyone in front of him's legs as the firelizards continued hatching. He was able to see from that angle when the two greens hatched and his eyebrows raised as the darker coloured one positively chased the lighter green. He almost felt sorry for her, except that his gaze followed the flitters to Marra and Rawign. Ironic that the one doing the chasing latched onto the Healer; from what he'd seen (and that wasn't much), it was usually Marra likely to chase Rawign around screaming threats. He tended to have that effect on people. (Keliris himself was tempted more than once to chase the Journeyman around with one of the kitchen utensils, threatening his life at the top of his lungs for him being so irritating.)
A hint of envy, though, passed through him. There were so few left that he silently accepted that he was unlikely to Impress any of them. Not surprising. Chipper hated him, after all. Maybe he'd just buy a feline cub, they were easier to raise and didn't require something special about the person in order to keep them as pets. That sounded like a worthy plan to him. He crinkled his nose and rested his chin on his knee top. He was so distracted with his musings that he missed the next two firelizard hatchings, though his eyes drew up toward a gold tail winding around Uu'n's wrist. Tilting his head, he stood up, all hostility banished in the face of curiosity, though his height and spot made it hard for him to see anything except the tail. What was that?
---
Smiling weakly, Rawign tilted his head. If they were alone, he might have asked why Marra seemed so snappy - but probably not. She never seemed to appreciate inquiries after her behavior any more than he would have and it wasn't his place. If she wanted him to know, she'd ask. However, the sound of eggs cracking again drew his attention back to the eggs, just in time to see a little yellow-green flitter slam right into Marra in what looked to be raw terror. The poor thing! He was about to ask if it was okay when a weight settled around his leg and the source of the lighter green's terror came into view. Raising an eyebrow at the firelizard wound around his leg as if he were the perfect perch, Rawign smiled; he couldn't help himself. The silly thing had practically flown right into his leg and was chasing the other one, why, because it was angry? He was reminded of a certain Harper who had just thrown a candidate into a wall...
... and sounded suspiciously... nice? He uncurled the darker green firelizard from his leg (nearly getting bitten in response; clearly, she was still upset over her rude hatching) with surprising gentleness and then retrieved some of the meat from one of the bowls nearby. The way Marra spoke almost hinted that maybe there was more to her than the bitter, grouchy exterior. His eyebrows raised and he smiled secretively before holding the little green up for a closer look, as she snapped up some of the meat. Her eyes were so large! It was cute, in a strange way. And she'd drawn more than just Rawign's attention, for Beggar flew over to perch behind them on one of the shelves, bouncing about to look at the two greens curiously. There could be no denying that the blue was excited.
"So I did," he said softly, then looked at Marra. She looked tired, and Rawign glanced around before leaning back next to her. He wouldn't leave with more eggs left to hatch but it was obvious Marra was drifting off. Once the hatching was over, he'd wake her and suggest she go somewhere else to nap, some place... less open. Navigating the boats might be too rough, but it would be her choice -- she could always sleep in the infirmary. He'd pretend she had some weird disease he made up on the spur of the moment or something. They'd work that out later. His eyes were still on the green as he looked her over, then smiled approvingly, "Desdemona for yours... and Roxie for me." Roxie seemed like a disturbingly fitting name for the little green, somehow. Roxie the Starlet.

Mariyelle watched, almost in a daze as egg after egg hatched, flitter after flitter impressed. She had stepped back awhile before, watching the impressions with a smile as she stroked her own Titian’s bronze hide. For some reason, she loved watching impressions – they reminded her of her own. And, actually, the green rider now had two to remember – not only Arvenith’s, but now her flitter’s, as well. That flitter will cause us both trouble, MariMine, the green stated firmly. I thought you said he was cute…? At Arvenith’s silence, the rider continued. Anyways, darling, you know that Titian won’t likely get us into more trouble than you normally do. You jealous, dear, that you’ve got some competition. No reply, although Mariyelle could feel the green give a draconic laugh.
Whoah – as Mariyelle had been talking to her wonderful green, she had been staring off at a new weyrling, who had one of the stranger eggs in his hand. What had hatched out of that egg? It…it was a gold, and not a flitter, those were the only things the weyrling could conclude from this distance. Or was it a flitter. A deformed flitter, possibly? No. The green rider wasn’t sure what it was that made her conclude this, but she was sure it was not. It was smaller, much smaller, than a green flitter, and it was a gold. Strange creature…certainly not a normal gold…and nothing Mariyelle had ever heard of.
Deciding to let the weyrling take care of it now, and then check back through the records later, Mariyelle forcefully switched her attention towards the unhatched eggs. What would hatch from these – surely not another one of those strange creatures, of course…

N'call gently pried the greens hissing body from his thigh and held her firmly in his grasp. She was adamant in her hunger though and dived at the first bowl N'call passed on his way to get her food, hissing at the hands that reached in for meat. It was her food, not theirs. N'call snatched her from the edge of the bowl, and before she could protest stuffed her creeling mouth with food.
"Now what to call you," he said absentmindedly as she continued to creel between his feedings. He pondered as the little greens calls slowly became less annoying, then stopped all together as the little green fell into the post hatching sleep all hatchlings experience. N’call smiled as he ran two fingers down the flits back, earning him a sleepy croon of appreciation. “Kirse,” he muttered to himself. Little Kirse chirped in her sleep, flipping to her belly as she tried to get comfortable.

((Sorry this is so late! Was grounded until the house was clean x.x))
T'ren looked down with surprise as something started hitting his foot. Not that it was painful or anything, just startling. A small grin splitting his face, he knelt down to pick the little green up. She didn't seem to like this move very much. Either that or she was just really hungry, because his finger became the next object of interest to her mouth. Not wanting to make his hand mince-meat, T'ren quickly fed the little bugger until she was crooning in delight of her bulging stomach.
What should we name her? T'ren asked of his bronze, who was sniffing at his arms, curious about the flitt. He sat back, cocking his head in thought, eyes whirling green.
How about Aurora? he said, mouth opening in a hopeful grin. He liked the name, and it seemed perfect for the darling flitter who was now snoring slightly, little bubbles popping out of her mouth with each whistling breath.
"Aurora sounds perfect." T'ren bounced the tiny flitt in his arm. "What do you think? Sound like a good name to you?" Waking slightly--or at least enough to crack her eyes and yawn--the little green confirmed the name to be the right one. Really, she couldn't care less what they called her right then. She was just happy to be fed and warm.
I like her, came the voice of Kas as his nose huffed the flitt lightly. She stirred in protest but quickly quieted again. She's pretty.
T'ren laughed at the bronze, rubbing his head with his free hand. You would, Kas. You would.
((Will post Alene in a bit. Sorry for the poor quality of this one.))

At first when Beka heard about the Flitter Hatching, she hadn't worried, preffering to keep her own company, so when every one else rushed off, she remained. But as she wandered around, the idea of having something to cuddle grew on her, slowly, and hooked it's claws into her mind. To have something to really cuddle, and hold close, something to love and...
Her mind made up, Beka turned, heading instead for the event that held almost every one else captive. She knew she was late, knew it well enough that she was hurrying to join every one else. What if they had all hatched by the time she got there? What if they were all gone? What if= No, that wasn't the way to be thinking, anything could happen. Anything.
Of course she entered adn felt her heart sink at just how many had paired off, letting her breath out in a sigh. Yes, there were un-hatched eggs, and yet even then, there were other people there too... Another sigh as Beka managed a smile for the nearest person, not even seeing the odd little creature that wasn't a fire-lizard. She saw Gold and merely assumed that a Queen had hatched. Simple. It happened.

Uu'n almost fell off of the counter he had perched on when, not green or blue or even white peeked from the small egg, but gold! And then! Certainly not a fire-lizard at all, the creature he held carefully in his hands was rounded and lovely, with prickly claws held carefully up, and delicate wings that probably couldn't hold her in more than a glide. A frill on her neck wafted slowly, the damp membrane clinging to his rough finger for a moment as she gazed adoringly up at him, her long golden tail falling through a chink in his fingers to curl becomingly. She was gorgeous... and then... she spoke.
Is mine. Is mine own Uu’n. Is Mine has food? Food nice, the queenling said, her voice tired but exceedingly hopeful. "Uh-- of course," Uu'n stammered out, moving his top hand and quickly fishing for something in the scrap bowl, coming up with a gobbet of some dark, blood-covered something. The tiny queen took it carefully from his fingers, gulping it down with far more decorum than Adith had ever used. Uu'n noted a couple stares as he fed his lovely hatchling, but just shot glares at them and continued to feed her, trying to think of a name worthy of the beauty.
Do you have a name? he asked, just in case, as she delicately preened her talons clean of blood, checking between each toe before proceeding to lick Uu'n's fingers clean, her green tongue rasping against his fingers. Food nice, she responded with a chirp, fanning her frill and vibrating some sort of purr, her tail curling into a spiral. Is Mine name?[/i] Uu'n blinked, still confused about a talking pet-creature. Well, she wasn't a flitter, certainly... and the indignation he got from her at the mere thought was enough proof of that!
"I'll name you Daeluunya, after my mother. She was golden and beautiful, like you," Uu'n whispered to the sleepy creature, who was searching out some comfortable position. Is Dael, she affirmed before passing out, curled in his palm. She was no bigger than the average green, and small even for that! Carefully, Uu'n moved his hand to rest against his chest, before sliding off of the counter and grabbing a couple meatrolls and a tuber stuffed with something green, his fingers cleaned remarkably well by the baby... whatever-she-was. Of course, his path would take him past the crazy Hatching-madness, but Uu'n was perfectly prepared to ignore them all, especially if they made rude comments. Dael was clearly better than any of those hatchlings.

The Hatching was probably starting to slow down; there were not enough eggs for such a rapid-fire succession of hatchings as usually happened near the start; not that A'en knew how any of it had gone. Only five were left, not counting the one U'un had in his hand. Of course, that one would almost certainly Impress to him, as flitters were not as choosy as dragons. A’en yawned. His chances were almost certainly very small, because though there were still five eggs left, there were many more people than that here who hadn’t Impressed, and, of course, you can get more than one. He’d always wanted a flitter, though that wasn’t nearly as important to him now, because of Ayisseth. A’en sighed.
Then, the unexpected happened. What in the world was that in U’un’s hand? Some sort of… mutation? Except it didn’t look like the mutations in Ayisseth’s clutch. It was more perfectly formed, almost a creature of its own. And it was gold. Did that mean it was female and a queen, or were all of these strange beings gold? Of course, A’en was a master of the unanswerable question, which was certainly what these were. U’un passed right by A’en on his way out, so A’en got a pretty good look at the golden creature. He sent an image to Ai, along with what exactly happened.
Mine, I have no idea what that is. She is very pretty, though. Very pretty. Ai fell asleep, so A’en couldn’t ask him anything else. He didn’t seem very concerned about her, anyway, and U’un was almost out the door, so A’en turned back to the Hatching. Maybe he’d have more of a chance now, if people got distracted by the strange flitter.

The Wind-Whipped Egg rocked quite smoothly, daintily, as if being firmly patient with itself to not mess up its hatching. Small cracks began to run across the surface from where the sliver of green hide was visible, this wider crevice the source of countless smaller ones. With more determination and less fuss as each crack widened, there was a shuddering crunch, and the shards of the egg flew forth as the green within knocked them away in satisfaction and disgust.
The little green looked up and around, hissing at the egg that twitched beside her, the Dust & Debris Egg. Turning her attention onto it, she proceeded to scold the larger egg. Stupid egg! Was it trying to steal her spotlight? As if in retaliation, the Dust & Debris Egg promptly split open, revealing a pale bronze flitter. Surprisingly, he didn’t attack his sister. He had more important things to worry about like… food.
Experimentally, the bronze fanned his wings, rising up ever-so-slightly. Surprised at this, he fluttered down with grace. Daring to do this again, he flapped his wings again, harder, the egg fluid on them chilling the thin matter. Crooning with delight as he gained altitude, he sped forward. Realizing he didn’t know how to break, he creeled in hunger and worry. Halting himself right before A’en’s face, he warbled in what he thought was at first joy, then hissed as he realized that he did not want this one. Snapping at his nose, he flew backwards, only to lose control. Squawking, he descended in a sorry little slope to land at Rawign’s feet. Chirping anxiously, he rubbed his head against the candidate’s shoes. Enough of today’s adventure; he was hungry!
The Wind-Whipped Green was not done. Screeching in anger at the bronze, she turned to glare at the crowd haughtily. Stalking around in what seemed like pacing, her eyes whirled a red-orange, appearing furiously pensive. Abruptly, she halted. Letting loose a battle-cry, she leapt at Beka. She was hungry! She would be fed. Pausing, she nuzzled the girl with a croon. Perhaps if she said “please”…?
The next hatchings were rather interesting to watch. Rocking back and forth in unison, like egg-shaped pendulums, moved the Dark Clouds Egg and the Stormtossed Egg. They even hatched simultaneously, though the cracks in their shells were quite different. The Dark Clouds Egg split horizontally, in an almost perfect crack around the egg, while the Stormtossed Egg dropped its pieces as though it were a jigsaw puzzle coming undone. A miniature trumpet and a screech, from two different sources, alerted the hopeful Impressees of two little ones in the world.
Staggering from the shards of the Dark Clouds Egg was a blue. A deep, midnight blue flitter was the one who had issues the bugle, happily bouncing forward. Looking around with a slightly cocked head, he gave a plaintive chirp, surprised by his own hunger. Broadcasting this feeling to everyone around him, he pushed himself up, flapping his wings carefully. In a rather comical way, his blue body seemed to dangle from his wings, which slowly propelled him forward. Stopping in front of Saraina, he promptly dropped, exhausted. Giving a defeated cheep, he looked up at the girl with his waiting mouth open, wanting to be handfed the food he expected.
The screech came from the other egg, the Stormtossed Egg. Rather than a blue flitter, however, a brown staggered forward, his light brown hide glittering with egg liquid. Giving a dirty look to those around him, he seemed to sniff in indignation. So much for brilliant choices here! Looking around irritably, he tottered up to the crowd. Unfortunately, it was evident he was a very clumsy creature with his short limbs, and he tripped twice on his way over. Deigning not to notice, his whirling eyes locked with Cezine. Giving a grumpy trill, he tripped his way over to her, hissing as he demanded food. When he saw the other flitter with her, he screeched even more loudly, an ear-splitting shriek that was enough to make some people clap there hands over their ears. Pretending that flitter didn’t exist, he looked up at Cezine in determination. He wanted her, so perhaps he could try chasing off the other invader…
Unlike the brothers, the last egg, the Lightning Struck Egg, was a completely silent hatching. With astounding grace, a royal blue flitter shook his shards away, almost shyly, like a maiden fair lowering her fan in flirtation. Hesitantly, he stepped forward, his eyes whirling pink in what could possibly be embarrassment. Stopping here, he looked around, thinking about his choices before going forward. Trying to gather the thoughts from people, he sorted through them awkwardly in his mind, seeing who he would find more welcoming…
Deciding with a decisive, hesitant flicker of his tail, he slowly crept forward, looking behind him to make sure nobody else would take the one he wanted. Satisfied that no one was, he leapt onto Z’hin nervously, nudging the weyrling with a sense of urgency. He was hungry, after all. With his decision, the hatching ended, with all empty shells littering the floor in a messy carpet.
