Kaedryn stared as egg after egg hatched, already nearly half out of their shells... Blues and browns and bronzes and greens... Shells flying left and right, loud humms echoing in the air and joyful shouts as dragonets impressed their chosen. Her stormy eyes shifted around the great room, hands twisting over and around each other and she began to nervously gnaw on her lips. One by one the little ggs were hatching and with each one down, her heart beat more and more madly... Would there be a little one in there for her?

The Ruby Egg was the next to Hatch. It was the largest and Leyan was not at all surprised when a bronze emerged. There was stilll hope! Leyan refused to believe that he, so worthy a candidate* and one who had been dreaming of this practically ever sense he could, would be left standing. Maybe this bronze would choose him! Remembering how his last encounter with a bronze Hatchling had gone, he readied himself for whatever happened next.
The green dragonet didn't seem to like the fact that her brother was claiming the attentio she so obviously felt she deserved. With a screech, she charged at the bronze... or would have had it not been for two candidates in the way. He merely blinked as he watched them. Served them right for not getting out of the way! He frowned. The brown had disappeared! Obviously not /between/ because the dragons would have keened.
The bronze Impressed. Once again, it wasn't him. He sighed, not even bothering to acknowledge the new pair. What was the point when everyone would be saying the same thing and in their daze no one would notice? The green too Impressed... to the boy who had been standing next to the one chosen by the bronze. He grinned.
Now what about that brown? Apparently he too had found His. Leyan's grin faded. The amount of unHatched eggs was rapidly diminishing. Apparently two more greens had Hatched sometime during the commotion. It was getting harder to keep track of all that was going on!
But he was doing his best. One of the greens was making her way through the females. Well, she hadn't looked at the males so perhaps her lifemate was among them. The other green had chosen though.
It seemed like he and his sister were having the same luck which was to say none. Maybe they would both Impress at the next Hatching. It would be nice to go through Weyrlinghood together. Leyan glanced at the remaining eggs. Come on, he thought. He's got to be out there somewhere...
* that is Leyan's thoughts not mine as a writer, just to clarify.

Ilena watched and clapped as each hatchling emerged and Impressed. Something was so beautiful about Hatchings. It was wondrous to get to sit up in the Stands and watch as bondings were created and as people's lives were changed, forever. She remembered when she Impressed her beautiful green. She had just been Standing...hoping for the best and, actually, thinking of her sister when Opeith had Chosen her. Somehow the young dragonet, just out of the shell, knew that this little stick of a girl was Hers, meant for none other. Their bonding had been beautiful. There was love, support, trust, everything all in a few moments followed with the most intense happiness and hunger Ilena had ever felt. It was like finding a part of herself that she didn't even know was missing. She loved thinking of that instant, that tiny portion of time that changed her life's course forever. She was no longer a misfit; she belonged with her Opeith.
And just sitting up there in the Stands, watching others experience what she had was beautiful. She could see the happiness on the faces of those who were bonded and the eagerness on those who had yet to find their bondeds. It was just...beautiful. That was the only word she could find for it. Ilena knew that she could never relive her own Impression and, even if given the chance, she wouldn't. But just watching others experience it gave her a taste of what it had been for her; allowed her to remember.

((So sorry for the crappiness of this post. I'll bbs!))
There was that moment, that single moment, when the Topaz Egg hatched, revealing the Topaz Bronze. And then...well, everything went into chaos. Egg after egg hatched, dragonet after dragonet impressed...and none of them even looked in Jaronirew's direction. He felt hidden between the two large, sturdy boys on his left and right -- oh, no, nevermind. One of them impressed, leaving Jaron in a daze. How was this happening so quickly? He just couldn't keep up.
The Ruby Egg hatched, revealing a bronze. However, it was easy to see that Jaron was much more interested with the Peridot Green...she was just so cute! When she impressed, however, the candidate rolled his shoulders back. He still had a chance...right? Jaronirew couldn't even see past the wave of candidates that had moved up, in their eagerness to meet the approaching dragonets. But there had to be an egg there, a dragon there, one for only him...
He hoped.
And there, again, another green impressed. Shard it! Jaron tried to see past the candidates that had floated in front of him, and failed. The dragonets probably couldn't even see him! Filtering out any angry thoughts, and trying to keep Gossip from coming to see all the newest drama, Jaronirew tried to get into the front once more, so that he actually could be seen. Sharding waves of white!

Oh, shards. Just after the largest egg hatched, the little green went running toward him. Rawign abruptly moved to the side, hauling his sister with him by the arm, though his movements were not quick enough to avoid claws yanking down his good side. But compared to what was done to his chest and his other side, the scratches were mere brushes of the skin, bleeding but not nearly as bad as one might expect, and he was fast enough to keep Religna from being bloodied in the process. He felt no scorn as the green moved away, her obvious fury adorable despite the fact that she'd hurt him and probably others as well. He dropped one hand to his side and lifted his bloody fingers before making a face. That wasn't half as bad as what he'd expected, though it would hurt for awhile. The scars wouldn't remotely compare to the rest. Goodness, he was going to be unpleasant to look at, though, and part of his vanity suffered. Just a little, though.
If he hadn't Impressed Roxie, Rawign probably would have found the little green obnoxious. She seemed quite determined to find hers, and she didn't seem to care who she hurt in the process. But her behavior was very much like his beloved green firelizard's, and that made it hard for him to find anything unpleasant about her. She hadn't hurt him any worse than he'd been prepared to be harmed. Actually, he'd half expected to be hauled off the sands as little more than a bloody ball of meat, but... that was his pessimism talking more than rational thought.
His eyes strayed to the large bronze that found one of the boys, and then the green again as she chose the boy... right next to the bronze's new bonded. Amused, Rawign started to turn back to Religna as another green came their way. However, she didn't seem quite as distressed as the last little dragonet, and when she turned to Religna, his eyes lit up with excitement. He moved back, grinning ear-to-ear in nothing short of delight. He'd been about to ask if she was hurt, but it probably didn't matter, as he strongly suspected Religna would not be able or willing to answer him anymore. His delight showed on his face and in his posture, banishing any trepidation that might have lingered as a result of getting clawed. How could he be anything short of thrilled that his baby sister had just Impressed? And such a beautiful green. He stepped out of her way, so as to not be a hindrance.
"Oh, Li~ Congratulations! She's perfect, just wonderful," he purred before back pedaling back in the direction of Keliris, Beka and some girl he didn't know. He didn't speak even as he reached them, though he did turn to watch the Crystal Green, as if he was worried she might turn and tear him open too.
* * *
An abrupt and sharp look was turned back to Lennae and Keliris actually bit his tongue, in order to prevent himself from snapping right back that yes, she obviously was dim since she willingly spoke to him. Her presence distracted him from the antics of the Peridot Green until a loud roar made him turn and look away. The bronze that hatched made him tilt his head and he watched both of the dragonets before taking a step back. Fortunately, the rambunctious (and adorable) little green did not approach them, though the blood that stained Rawign's side sent a chill of guilt through him. He'd promised Li he would protect Rawign, and he hadn't. But.. the Healer didn't look all that distressed at all...
And a second glance explained why. His -- sister? Was that what she was? Cousin maybe? -- had Impressed. Brightening visibly, Keliris turned to Rawign as he approached and pointed lamely around. "Beka, Lennae, Rawign. Rawign, Lennae, Beka." It sounded like a satisfactory introduction to him, but Lir wasn't very good with people. "Are you okay?" At the curt nod from Rawign, he looked back at Lennae, faltering slightly. He wanted to apologize for sniping at her, but the words didn't reach him. So, instead, he offered her a lame smile before turning back toward the direction of the moving crowd and the Crystal Green moving about in the group of girls...
Maybe she wouldn't hold a grudge against him for his snappiness. It wasn't her fault at al, but he felt a surge of protectiveness in regards to Beka. She had, after all, already had a rough time in the hatching. His hand never moved from curled around hers, though he wasn't sure whether or not she'd appreciate his nearness...

((The Hatching part of this post is gonna be a bit shorter...))
While the Crystal Green was darting around amidst the female candidates, two other eggs began to rock with the ministrations of their occupants. The Amethyst Egg and Aquamarine Egg shifted in their berths, two smaller pulsating jewels. Violet shards flew everywhere with one violent kick, a blue leg peeking out of the egg for a moment before it was drawn back in. It seemed that the Amethyst Blue would be hatching first.
Despairing of ever finding Hers amongst these girl peoples, the green dragonet wobbled on her hatchling legs toward the boys, peering at them closely. None were right, though. None! This couldn't be happening. Hers had to be here somewhere! In a sudden fit of pique, the Crystal Green charged into the crowded males, knocking aside those who weren't fast enough to get out of her way. Then she saw him. Suddenly changing directions, she barreled straight for Leyan. Through Leyan, and into the boy standing just behind the young candidate. Why were you hiding from your Snowquith, L'ar? she creeled, piteously.
By this time, the hatching blue had managed to rid himself of most of his egg, shaking out his body and sending up a little joyful scree to the world at large. Look at him! Wasn't he the most handsomest dragonet ever to hatch? The Amethyst Blue danced around his unhatched brethren, a little awkward dance of happiness that nearly landed him in the sands every few steps, but he somehow managed to stay upright. Now, there he was! Latching on to the white tunic of His, the dragonet began dragging the candidate toward the meat. If you don't feed your Krikith, J'rewMine, he will eat this nasty stuff. Krikith let loose with a mock growl, shaking his head and pulling on the fabric of the candidate's robe.
A lull had fallen over the Hatching Grounds with that last Impression, such that the quiet cracking of the Aquamarine Egg could be clearly heard. The top of the egg slowly lifted, a green head peering out over the jagged edge, her eyes blinking slowly as she took in her new world.
***
But they will never have our clutch, Salenth responded to Aslath, a quiet anger behind the tone. Just the thought of Benden and Fort touching their children was enough to upset the bronze. He had taken to nuzzling his mate when the queen roared at the girl with the flit, and was left quite alone as she took after a boy who'd been stupid enough to make the same mistake. With the equivalent of a draconic sigh, he settled in to watch the rest of his egglets hatch.
There were so very many of them. Breaking shell right and left, and such a spirited bunch, too! Which dragon would get the ... hem ... privilege of looking after this group of troublemakers? Oh, yes. He was very pleased with the product of Aslath's first clutch.
***
Was Shmee saying what he thought she was saying? She must be, given Lauranna's titters from somewhere on the other side of his weyrmate. The Weyrwoman hadn't expressed any desires for more than a comforting touch for so long that he had - almost - forgotten the passion they'd shared for each other. It all came rushing back to him at her words, though, and that did nothing to allay the cheshire grin eating up his face. He laughed at her comment. "I know! But I - " He pawed at his face, in pure futility. "- can't get it to go away." It was hard to sound beleaguered with a maniacal grin on your face...
Most of his x-rated thoughts were banished, however, when the hatching picked up in earnest. Dragonets were practically pouring out of their shells and onto the sands. There was such a whirlwind of Impressions that he was beginning to get a headache trying to keep track of them all. Or maybe that was from the ear-splitting smile? S'rei could only be thankful that it was the Weyrlingmaster who would have to babysit this new group of weyrlings. What a handful!
***
Mutasim was quite clearly sulking. He hadn't even wanted to come to the Hatching to begin with, and now Aslath had scared away Jabari - again - and it was all he could do to avoid being trampled by the boys scrambling in reaction to the sudden flood of dragonets. Thankfully, Narna had seemed to catch his warning look, not crossing the sands to confront the queen. He'd seen her move, yes, and was actually glad to see her. Even if he'd beat the silly girl senseless if she ever did something as stupid as standing up to a gold. Especially for his sake.
He'd been steadily distancing himself from the rest of the male candidates, if only to keep from being stomped and elbowed to death. It seemed that the hatching had halted. With a strange hopefulness, he looked to the eggs, but then frowned when he realized that only half had actually broken shell. He'd have to deal with more of this craziness? His eyes snared on the green whose head poked up from the jewel-like blue shell, jaw tightening warily. So far, the greens had been the most aggressive of the bunch, save perhaps that one gigantic bronze.
Not once did Mutasim think of Impressing. He simply wanted to get out of there as fast as he could.

He was... Holding her hand. Shocked by the comfort offered by Lir, she looked up at him, before allowing a timind smile and grasping his hand tighter. "Alright." Was the only response he got, Beka's gaze moving over the sands cautiously, as if believing Aslath would find a reason to chuck her off all together. Thouigh when someone else came over, she jumped, and moved away. Staring at the other girl with a brow raised. Aslath had just yelled at her, and she was supposed to be having a good time? INstead of answering, she quite promptly... Didn't say anything.
Introductions, great. A mumbled 'hi' was about the best they were going to get out of her, since Beka hated talking at the best of times. There was a moment where she missed Anai like she had when she'd first left, only to have the Green's joy in her new toy flow over to her mind. Which, caused another smile. "She likes the toy, she says to say thankyou."
~*~
Religna had only nodded when it was suggested they catch up later, smiling right back at him. "It's good to see you too. I missed you. Things got boring." Pfft, not, liar! Though Religna wasn't going to tell him anything about those times, she would happily recount the good times. Hm- A yelp followed as she was pulled out of the way, before glaring at the green as she walked away. "Oh! Are you okay, we should get a-"
You are hurt, RelignaMine! Don't worry. Your Ith is here now.
INstantly eyes widened, she'd been concerned enough with Rawign not to notice the green coming closer, and the voice in her mind was a shock. Including the over-whelming feelings of love. "No, I'm okay, Rawign just had to pull my away from that other green." Hm, alright. RelignaMine, I'm hungry, could we get some food? Smiling brightly, the girl nodded, turning her head to smile at her brother's praise. "Thanks..."
Food! PleaseMine? Another nodd and the Green fell silent, nudging Hers when Religna spoke first to the Weyrling master. "Religna, Green Ith." That done, she moved away, bending by her green to feed her.
~*~
Too many dragons! Oh so many! Oh look at that silly green, she was having trouble getting out of her egg. Awwh, poor thing. Eyes bright, Rie attempted to follow each dragonet, cheering when the Garnet Egg hatched into a green, a lovely pretty green that was cute and adorable. There were too many to really keep track of! Oh that green was in a bad mood, attacking Candidates, really. Sticking her tongue out at the green as she walked away, Rielana felt much better for having done so.
(-yawn- xD)

The Crystal Green was definitely another one of the cute greens. Jaronirew, yes, favored those greens and blues…probably more the blues, but he couldn’t say why. Smiling as the single green on the Sands dove into the pack of female candidate, he turned his attention towards the Amethyst and Aquamarine Eggs, trying to guess what they would hold. However, before he could decide for either, the Amethyst Egg cracked, having been kicked from the inside. A blue hind leg protruding for a moment before it retreated once more into its egg, so it could fully rid itself of the shell.
A glimpse of green caught Jaron’s eye. The Crystal Green had seemingly decided that her choices were not good enough, within the girls. Now, she was coming here…and she had found her lifemate. It was, apparently, Leyan…or not. It was a boy Jaronirew knew vaguely, who’s name was L—well, now L’ar, most likely. Shooting a sympathetic look towards Leyan, who had probably thought the green was turning those rainbow eyes on him, before looking back to the Amethyst Blue and Aquamarine Egg. In an attempt to decide what color dragonet the Aquamarine Egg would hold, Jaron lost sight of the blue, for a moment.
Jaron didn’t really see the blue, then…he more like felt it. And what he felt, he couldn’t believe. The gentle tug, growing more and more intense rather quickly…and then an actual pull, a pull on his physical form, and words that solidified the connection. If you don’t feed your Krikith, J’rewMine, he will eat this nasty stuff. There was a mock growl, as the blue released the robes, and Jaroni—well, J’rew—grinned. Shells, Krikith-dear. You scared me half to death. But of course I shall feed you. I can only hope that you decide your liking of meat is greater than my robes…I’m not sure if I have to give them back to the Candidate Master or not.
Blinking back the tears, caused by the unexplainable joy that Impression brought, J’rew looked down at Krikith, still walking. He was so lovely, and he was perfect for the candidate (now Weyrling) in every way. Maybe a little better. But of course, J’rew-Mine.
Spotting the Weyrling Master, the weyrling came infront of him, placing a hand on Krikith's head to stop the plea for food that was about to come, due to the halt. "J'rew, Blue Krikith." Neither rider or dragon was very ready for conversation right now, but the blue weyrling did pause for a moment, before Krikith chime, Alright, Mine. Now, please, food? The weyrling obediently continued on towards the food tables, and picked up some scraps of meat, feeding them carefully to his blue.

Lennae was glad at the distraction the bronze hatchling provided. She supposed that things could have gotten ugly between the two of them if it had been allowed to continue, and while she was, in her opinion, a relatively easy person to get along with, today Keliris was certainly trying her patience. She almost couldn’t believe that she had agreed to teach him sword fighting, but then the memory of his eager face arose in her mind. She knew he could be a nice person, but everyone had their off days; perhaps she had merely caught him on one of his.
A young man, candidate by the looks of his robes, approached, and it was clear from the look that he and Keliris shared that the two boys knew each other. It wasn’t his brother, so a friend perhaps? As he drew nearer, she noted the blood staining one side and realized that he had been the victim of, what had Keliris called them? Oh, yes, a mauling. While she felt bad for him, she desperately hoped that he wouldn’t attract any other bloodthirsty hatchlings.
At Keliris’s introductions, she gave a polite smile to Beka and Rawign. Though Keliris had said that he had few to no friends, she had contain a laugh at the fact that he was the one who had brought them all together. After all, she hadn’t known Beka or Rawign before this very moment, which meant that they hadn’t known her, and it was quite possible that Beka and Rawign hadn’t known each other before now either.
She studied them for a moment before her eyes alighted on Beka and Keliris’s fingers entwined. While it was prohibited for relationships to occur between candidates and most certainly not allowed for weyrlings to have romantic entanglements, if anyone were to break the rules, she would have figured it to be him. Her eyes flickered to Beka with a newfound appreciation. If this girl could put up with his mood swings (which she had just experienced and found to be something that she wasn’t sure she could deal with on a regular basis), then she certainly deserved a medal.

By now the clapping for impressions had left her hands quite tired, although Gina persisted in applauding for short amounts of time. Blues, Greens, and a loud powerful Bronze emerged from their eggs with various amounts of noise and clatter. Clapping a hand to her cheek as a stray fragment of shell struck her face, the candidate brought her appendage away to find a line of blood across fingers. Quickly looking away from the blood, Gina quickly wiped it off on the wall behind her, determined not to touch the cut again. Turning her attention back to the hatching, the young woman happily forgot about the slowly bleeding cut on her cheek and let her eyes rove over the remaining Eggs. Only about half of the little ones had hatched and there still remained many more, hopefully one of the eggs would hatch for her and her alone.
---
The scratching of the writing feather began to sound more often than it had in the beginning of the hatching, the swing of impressions had picked up rapidly after the first two or three dragon pairs had been found. Having only enough time to scratch down the names, applaud and then cast a quick glance around the hatching arena, F'rah was kept rather busy. Nodding quickly and pointing to the table the Weyrlingmaster wrote down the name of one of the pairs who had recently impressed. "Religina of Green Ith."
Although the brown eyed man turned an unhappy gaze to the other Green and Blueweyrlings who had yet to give their names, F'rah sighed as he thought about the upcoming weyrling lessons...
*Please guys... Remember to give your character's names to F'rah!*

There was so much going on so quickly that it was nearly impossible to keep up with it all. When dragonets came tottering in his direction, he did his best to just stay out of their ways. Every now and again he’d peer up, just to see what eggs were hatching and who had Impressed. Creels of hunger sounded from seemingly every direction, the sound of shattering eggs playing close accompaniment. While Mavorn had started the hatching feeling fairly calm and collected, the amount of activity going on was starting to become a bit overwhelming. Perhaps he would be better off drifting a little farther back, but he couldn’t manage to get himself moving. His eyes were caught by the eggs and their moving all over again and he willed himself to pay closer attention, to not be so distracted. This was no small feat, with all that was going on. Oh, how he wished he’d been born with more eyes or something! There was just so much! The eggs, the other candidates, the reactions of Golden Aslath herself.....
Then of course, there were the little dragons, all covered in shell goo and crying for food. So adorable! Looking at them, watching as they burst free of their shells and wobbled about the sands in search of those with whom they would share their lives, he felt a bit of his former composure returning to him. Everything would be fine, just fine. Breathe in, breathe out.
His attention finally back on the hatching itself, the Crystal Green was being too cute for words...then all of the sudden went charging into the boys. Thankfully, Mavorn had been out of the way already, but it was still disconcerting, to watch that cute green knocking down whoever got in her way. Being so adorable, you wouldn’t have imagined her capable of it, but obviously looks were deceiving in her case. Glancing up, he noted that the Amethyst Blue had gotten out of his shell now and seemed to be having the time of his life, dancing around the way he was. In no time at all, the blue had found the one he’d been looking for, leading the way to the meat. Hungry little ones, all of them. Truthfully, he couldn’t blame them. He was starting to feel a little hungry himself. Maybe it was all of the excitement catching up with him?
Meanwhile, the Aquamarine Egg was cracking up a storm, before a little green head finally poked through. Oh, just look at her! How precious she was! What a beautiful clutch..

Stormy eyes narrowed, tracking each and every crack just appearing in each of the eggs, a tense smile curved Kaedryn's lips. She laughed at the brazen little green dragon who appeared to be fighting with her elder bronze brother and the lovely little blue who chewed on his bonded's white clothing. Just being here was an experience in itself, a far cry from the tense atmosphere of Lighttower Hold.
Kaedryn decided that even if she did not Impress today, she would never go back to Lighttower... Having seen the tin dragonets, she knew she could never fit in a place that hated what she had grown to love. The tiny creatures had filled the hole in her heart that her betrayel of her hold had created. Even though she had given up a lot to be here, she knew she would never regret it.
Sighing quietly to herself, Kaedryn wrenched her mind from the dark thoughts it had fallen into, focusing back on the eggs. The Aquamarine Egg had just hatched, the silence of the hatching sands lending itself to everyone drawing their attention to it. Unlike the explosion like hatching of her earlier hatched brothers and sisters, this hatching probably would have not been as noticed except for that odd hatching. As it was, all eyes became focused on the little green just peeking from the shattered remains of her egg.

Why couldn't the blue rider go faster? It was obvious by the cluster of dragons down below that the hatching was already taking place. She had been picked up to Impress a dragon. Taken away from everything that she had ever known. From her cold and mountainess home. From her father and mother and her large happy family to this over heated piece of rock. And now down below her the hatching was already underway. She dared not bring this matter up to the rider as she was sure he was just as perturbed about missing part of the hatching. Most riders supposidly loved to go back to hatchings and remember their own hatching day. When the blue finally landed a wool clad Auryn jumped off of the dragon and turned to the blue rider.
"Sir?"
((pardon the NPC random blue rider))
"Well get going girl! Oh! Take off that sweater! Its too colorful! Your skirt should be fine as its just an off gray but get going! Ill take care of your things."
Auryn merely made the smallest of nods and then turned on light feet and raced her way to the hatching sands. She didn't even know if there would be any eggs left. Not that she cared... Ok that was a lie, she did care she wanted to Impress! She would be the first person in her entire families history that would Impress and the honor that it would bring to her and her parents would be so amazing and wonderful that she held the happy though into her mind right up to the point where she reached the sands. When her feet his sand she looked around. There were so many people and dragons here. There was the large Queen. Did she bow? Did she call attention to herself in any way? She didn't know what to do! Well, best wing it. She stopped and paused looking at the great Queen and keeping the big golden dragon in her eyesights the entire time as she did a long and very deep bow. She thought loudly as well as spoke
"Great Queen. I apologize for my tardiness. I am ready to accept the concequences. But if you permit me, I would like to stand for your eggs."
((Im going to let you call this one Muse. She can stand this time or next time. Either way I dont expect her to Impress in the short term lol!))
~*"*~
Rilliana and her green Alayith started to move off of the sands when they saw another girl start to come in. Well she was late, and not even properly dressed. Did she honestly expect Aslath to let her on the sands? Did the silly girl even know the Queen? Rilliana had never seen the girl before so she doubted it. Oh well, it would be her own funeral. She had a dragon too feed. ON the way out though she saw F'rah standing at the entrance and paused.
"I am Rilliana, or Rilla and this is Alayith."
Hello, are you going to give me food? I would really enjoy food. I have heard that food is good. Food will make my stomach stop hurting and that will be good. Things that are good are food yes yes?
"Oh good glows Alayith come on. This man is just here to know our names. Your food is over there."
Well if you say so then i guess that is alright. Do you know how dark it was in that egg? So dark! I thought I was going to be blinded when I hatched out it was just so terrible! Do you love your Alayith even though she is clumsy?
"Yes I do silly thing."

Aslath crooned. Benden will never harm -our- children! she reassured Salenth as she came back to rejoin him. Proudly looking upon her first offspring, she nuzzled her bronze mate. Not a deformed hatchling among them! And so handsome! All of this was owed to their perfect genes, of course. They produced the best hatchlings in all of Pern. They could last longer in Threadfall than any other Weyr could boast, and they would be intelligent and kind…
Our Weyr will be the strongest in all of Pern! she informed her mate confidently, nudging him proudly. We could populate the Weyr with all of this, and the deformed ones will be outshined. We will be remembered as a Weyr with the strong dragons, not with deformed ones! Obviously pleased, she wrapped her tail around his again.
Then, she barely heard a voice audibly speak to her, accompanied by the thought that was desperately trying to intrude into her mind. With a snort, she blocked out the unnecessary attempt to bespeak her. Did this candidate actually expect a mind reply from the queen of Selenitas? Not replying to her, she simply ignored the candidate as she cuddled with Salenth. Were all girls little dimglows?

Shmee smiled to herself at S’rei’s reaction. “I’m sure you can’t, love,” she replied softly, continuing to bounce Miguel up and down. Rolling her eyes, she looked back over to the Hatching. Starting now, she would get comfortable with S’rei’s body all over again. It wouldn’t be as easy as it used to be, but after a couple times, it would probably snap back to normal. “So tonight, after the Hatching,” she told him firmly. “We’ll put Miguel to bed… then we can, erm, tuck ourselves in.” There- was that the right thing to say around innocent ears? Looking down at Miguel, she smiled. She loved mothering him.
“The hatchlings are so cute,” she murmured, not really to either of the two in particular. This was just a statement. To think! These were the blossoms of Aslath and Salenth’s seeds!

“Rawign!” Marra gasped as one of the dragonets slashed at him. Shards! Leaping up, she spilled Mona and Li to the ground. Mona screeched, soaring after Marra as the harper ran down from the tiers. That stupid boy! He was only just healing from the felines, yet here he was, getting attacked all over again by dragons! Of course, Marra wasn’t panicking at all…
“Let me in!” she demanded at one of the drudges guarding the entrance to the sands. “I have to see Rawign, so get out of my way!”
However, the guards shook their heads irritably. Cursing loudly enough for some of the candidates (and perhaps dragonets) to hear, she started calling out on the drudges. “Just let me get in! I’m a harper!” Not that her rank would do much. “It’s not as though they’re paying you much for this! Get the hell outta my way! Rawign, get your sorry pile of dragon dung over here this instant!” she hollered over the drudges, who were now blocking their ears.

The Aquamarine Green looked up calmly, blinking slowly. She didn’t really want to leave the comfort of her shell. It was too warm! Sloshing around in the excess fluid for one more moment, she grumbled slightly. Pulling herself out, she pushed at the sides of the shell, trying to collapse it down so as to let her out easier. Walking upon it like a drawbridge, she looked around at the candidates with mild curiosity. Slowly, as if unsure, she stepped forward.
However, she stopped again, looking at each little group of candidates. Deciding the direction she wanted to travel, she took a step to the side. Chattering to herself a little in chirrups and trills, she speed-walked over to the little group she had in mind. Still looking wary, the green tapped Cezine’s head. Apparently, it satisfied the green, who crooned. So, you are mine, right? I am Brennath, she stated calmly, but her eyes whirled in excitement.
In the midst of Brennath’s Impression, two more eggs broke shell. The Sapphire Egg shook in little spasms as cracks ran every which way across the blue shell. The Emerald Egg was being more patient, giving strong, hard shudders. However, both proved to be effective, for at the same time, two new little dragons hatched. The Sapphire Egg yielded a green, who practically was sent bouncing from the shards from the force of her little crazed shakes. The Emerald Egg was the capsule that held a brown, who toppled over to the side. Pulling himself up, his eyes whirled in embarrassment, while the green had already sent herself flying across the sands to a boy now named R’zaz. I am Nelorth! she announced proudly.

After not being eaten or even really being acknowledged she proceeded onto the sands. She didn't look for a friendly face or someone to stand next to. She didn't know anyone here and she was not about to pretend like she did. As she moved she greatly regretted still having on her wool boots and their thick leather soles. While the bottoms of her feet would not melt from the heat of the sands themselves they may just melt from the amount of sweat that would soon accumulate with in them.
She finally choose to stand at a spot that was somewhere between a group of a few boys and girls that were left with her back to the entrance of the hatching sands. She could see everything that went on from here with out much trouble which suited her habits well. All around her she saw dragonets glisten with after birth from the eggs and smiled at the fact that at least they didn't come out the prettiest. Which set her mind more to the fact of how real dragons actually were. They were still something of a mystery to her after never being around them until the blue that landed and took her to this place. The sleepy green dragonet particularly caught her eye. She was certainly something. Auryn thought to herself how the young dragonet would probably be a calm thing for most of her life and not give any one too much trouble. That would be helpful to the person that the green picked as her own rider.
She watched the Sapphire egg and then the Emerald Egg crack open and reveal another green and brown. They were both very fine creatures and she had to chuckle a little bit as the brown dragon seemed to be almost embarrassed. It certainly was fascinating to watch everything proceed. She may have been late and distinctly dismissed by the Queen, but what else did she expect? She wasn't really anyone here, just another girl. Back home though.... No, she mustn't think of back home right now. There might still be a dragon just for her out there.
