It was all happening so fast now. Mer hardly had time to see the first blue and green choose a pair a girls, before two more eggs hatched. The second blue was a handsome pale color that made her eyes lit up. He seemed to know what he wanted though and was soon paired with one of the boys. Mer watched them go and turned back in time to see another green impress out of a gaggle of girls. She couldn't help smirking a little. At least she wasn't that silly. The green seemed to have a similar opinion and had picked one of the calmer girls.
Six eggs were left now and the Hatching was more than half over. A green tail already poked from a white egg while another showed proud, bronze wings. Mer shifted on her feet, hardly able to keep standing still. Would her dragon be in this clutch? Her eyes fell on the yet on moving eggs. It was impossible to tell what they contained. A glance around at the other candidates confirmed that there were more than the number eggs. It was sad to think that some of them would not impress, but she wasn't going to let that bother her. She had helped defend this place, and she was staying whether she had a dragon or not.

Finally he noticed the fascinating shades of all the dragonets. He should have noticed earlier, but his attentions were a bit too clouded by jealousy to see the cool, light, colorings of their hides. Frost-bitten most of them seemed; kissed by a layer of ice. They were magnificent and he rather appreciated the way they were so toned down from the vibrant chroma of the eggs in which they have been hiding. Still his admiration did little to quell his growing frustrations with the hatching. His arms remained crossed.
He watched the blues and greens travel to their destinations and it quickly appeared to him that his list of friends and acquaintances were quickly dwindling down. Both the girls he had met before, Thora and Burena, were joined with dragons and he was still standing there. And he was really starting to feel like an idiot. Why is it that all those times that someone said, "Oh well your dragon just hasn't hatched yet..."he was quick to believe them? He never believed most of what people said, yet he took their word for it on this. Was it wishful thinking? Was he being a moron for standing time and time again and failing to Impress? Kasella couldn't answer those questions, he could only grit his teeth together, hiding his smoldering angst and frustration.
He glanced around the eggs, each swirled orb of color was another tally mark in his brain. One, two, three, fou- oh.... He saw a green tail poking out of one, and two bronze wings out of another, so maybe things weren't as close to over as he might have thought.

As was expected, the Zinnia Bronze broke free of his shell. He reared back in surprise, he had not expected the world to be so bright! Fluttering his wings, he settled back down on all four of his small paws. He was pale, like his clutchbrother Olanreth, but his hide shimmered a bit more brightly in comparison. Small for a Bronze, the Zinnia male stood as tall as a large Brown hatchling. Titling his head to the side as his claws hit a large portion of his shell, the little Bronze paused before purposely tapping the section of egg. How pretty that sounded! Bending down, he scooped the shell into his mouth before trotting over to his peeping sister, apparently she needed some help! He didn't want her to be stuck in there... cooing back, the Zinnia Bronze swung his tail, hitting just above the hole that was already there. Crouching, he waited to see if his Greensister was okay.
Crawling feebly out from her confines, the Q.A.L Green rested on the warm sands at her clutchbrother's feet. Boy was she tired. She had been trying to hatch since the very beginning, but she had just been too weak to free herself fully! Trilling softly, the extraordinarily dark Green thanked her Bronzebrother for his help. She would be fine now, she just needed to rest a little... then she'd go and find her Mine.
Leaving his sister, the Zinnia Bronze trotted happily toward a pair of boys near the outskirts of the group, toting his piece of shell with him. He stopped once to look back at the Q.A.L Green, but then continued is trek, weaving between the boys only to have to back track. Plopping down near the black haired boy, the Zinnia male crooned through the shell piece in his mouth. /Ba'al mine. This made a pretty noise so I kept it for you! I am Brekoth, can we eat now please?/
While the Zinnia and the Queen Anne's Lace hatchlings had been conversing, the Hypericum and Hybiscus Eggs had cracked open. It took both of their occupants a while to realize they were free, both exiting their shells moments after each other. The Hypericum Blue looked questioningly over to the Hybiscus Brown, the two sharing a moment of confusion. The Blue sat down with a huff, and the Brown mimicked his Brother's movements. Noticing this, the Blue opened a wing and saw that his Brother did the same. The Hypericum Blue found this both incredibly entertaining and rather confusing at the same time. The two Brother began to play a sort of game, not noticing that the Zinnia Green had finally risen to her feet.
Despite her healthy color, the little Green looked rather skinny and awkward, as if she had grown too fast. Almost sickly in appearance, the Zinnia female stood firmly rooted to the spot, her eyes still trying to adjust to the contrast in light. After a few moments, the Green slowly wove her through a maze of egg shards and eggs that were yet to be hatched. Her pace was slow and steady, though it looked as if she went any faster she might simply collapse. But looks are often deceiving. Stepping softly over to Nris, the Zinnia Green peeped softly before looking up at the girl's face. /Nris mine... Your Lilliemeneth is starving. I would like some food please./
Meanwhile, the Hypericum Blue had grown tired with playing with his Brother. Picking himself up, he dashed quickly over to a young cheery looking boy, and put his paws on his sandled feet. /M'rian mine, let us go now you and I, to eat. I am Gadath./
Taking his time to trundle over to the Candidates, the Hybiscus Brown slowly made his way through the male candidates with interest, inspecting each of them before making another circuit. His mahogany hide could clearly be marked as one of the darkest of his clutch, second only to Lilliemeneth. Wrapping his tail around the ankle of one of the boys, the Hybiscus Brown tilted his head slightly before bespeaking him. /H'thor, I am Trondoth. I want to eat now please./
Now only two of the original thirteen eggs lay silently on the sands, what will hatch out of these colorful eggs only Faranath knows.

Merridan was almost growing dizzy with all the was happening. Four more had impressed already and only two left! It was hard not to loose a little confidence at this point. The last two eggs were still on moving and they were not ones she had recalled paying much attention to at the Touching. Did that mean she would be left standing. Mer clenched her fist and stood tall with the other remaining candidates. It didn't matter, she told herself. D'nar had stood at his first hatching, and look at him now! She just had to wait and see and hope for the best.
~
He was late. Very late. But the reason for that was very clear. As he was being practically dragged by a blue dragon. Garaeth you great, blue, wherry-brained git! It was probably a blessing only the dragon could hear him. PUT ME DOWN! Garaeth hummed pleasently and did no such think. We should see the Hatching, T'ke-mine! It is a joyous day for everyone! Not for me! T'ke said sulkily. I already have a sharding dragon. Or hadn't you noticed? Oh, but T'ke-mine! Think of all the lovely new weyrlings! I'm thinking about them alright. And all the damage they can cause with their innocent, little claws. Do not be so morbid. Garaeth scolded. Besides, they can not reach you from way up here. Oh no, T'ke grumbled unhappily. They'll only cover the sands with blood. And then I will faint. What fun. Garaeth just hummed on, refusing to be bated on this most happy day.

That blue really was adorable, hopping across the sands. He looked like he was trying to fly! Uh-oh, he was leaping right in her direction...Burena took a step back, narrowly missing a crash. The blue landed right in front of her, rump in the air. She laughed out loud, then fell silent abruptly as a voice sounded in her head. Burenamiine. Can we eat and then go... whats word... oh play? I'm just so happy to finally meet you! We're gonna be just the best together! Burena just stared, mouth half-open in an expression of silent surprise as her dragon happily babbled on. Ohoh! I'm your Hypirioth! I almost forgot! Oh look! Clutchsister made friends with your friend! We can all be friends!
Finally, she regained her wits and gave a joyful little squeal, putting her arms around Hypirioth in a gentle hug. "It's so nice to meet you, Hypirioth! That sounds wonderful." She leaned back again, taking a good look at her Hypirioth. The blue crooned, eyes whirling happily as he wiggled his rump. "First we should get you some food, though. I can tell you're hungry."
Yes, I am! Let's go! Without waiting for an answer, he bounded off towards the food, and Burena hurried after him. Hypirioth eagerly stood on his hind legs, pulling down a bowl of meat, but he dropped it and it crashed to the ground. Oops!
Let me handle that, love, Burena said, picking up another bowl and feeding Hypirioth carefully, making sure he didn't eat too fast and choke.

You can't win them all. He said to himself at first as he began to cope with the low, low, chances that he would Impress something coming out of one of those last eggs. But on the outside, it was really starting to show that he was going to crack. He let go of his crossed arms so that he could wip the sweat off his forehead and ruffle his hair that began to stick to the sides of his head. Again and again his fingers ran through the blackish locks and grabbed and pushed hair into place. It was all he could do, besides, he was going to handle this all with dignity and grace....
Why won't a sharding one of these sharding dragons pick me? They would all rather go between even if I was the only option on the sands wouldn't they? Well, at very least he was yelling it in his head, but still his attitude was going to get him nowhere in life. Huffing, he looked at the two eggs that were left once more, and only felt consolation in the fact that the Bird of Paradise Egg, the one egg he probably actually spent some time with, were one of the remainders. This little ray of hope was crushed when he saw the other candidates. Yeah, they were all probably better adjusted human beings...he didn't stand a chance.

Of the two, the Bird of Paradise Egg was the first one to reveal it's bundle of life, a pretty Blue by the hue of his hide. Sneezing several times, the young male shook his body free of the clinging shell fragments. His hide was a powdery blue, like snow that had been dyed the color of the sky. Turning around to face the remaining Candidate, the B.o.P Blue darted forward and then paused, his paw raised halfway through a step. Where oh where, was his little Human hiding? It took an agonizing few minutes before the B.o.P Blue found her standing near Merridan. Trotting over to the flaxen haired girl, he sniffed at her hand before rubbing his head against it. /Taelette love, I am Broth. I would like to eat whatever smells so good./
The last egg cracked with vigor, apparently no longer finding it's confines suitable enough. Kicking out portions of his egg, the Heliotrope Brown finally broke free. By the look his face had obtained in the moments after hatching, it was clear that he was annoyed. He wasted no time stalking over the sands to the boy he wanted, growling slightly before standing up and pushing him down, thrusting his face within inches of the boy's. /First, if you ever doubt yourself again, I will bite you so hard you will forget everything BUT the fact you leak. And second, If I do not get food with in the next few moments I will bite you. I mean it K'sel. I am Pettahth, and I demand to be fed. So get up./ Pushing himself off of his Mine, the Heliotrope Brown grunted and waited impatiently for the Weyrling to get to his feet. He was serious. He would bite His if he wasn't fast enough.
And with the Impression of the Heliotrope Brown known now as Pettahth, the Hatching came to an end. The new Weyrlings would start their lives anew with the teachings of one of their new Weyrlingmasters... and Kaegan could now go back to bed and sleep. For she was very tired and the fellis was starting to wear off. No one likes a cranky Weyrwoman.

The eggs were hatching so thick and fast, it was mind boggling! And oh, it was so hot! ... gosh it was hot. She wasn't sweating anymore, so at least she wasn't going to make a puddle around her ankles in the sand from it running down her legs. Oh, gosh, that would be so embarrassing... to look like she'd wet herself ... at least she wasn't sweating anymore.
Nris never realized that this was not a good thing at all ... having spent most of her life in the water, she'd never had to experience heat like that ... or learn what signs meant what on a body that was hot. She started feeling a little faint around the edges, and cracked her mouth open to get some more air a little faster, trying to cool off. Oh Faranth, it was hot out here! She resisted the urge to grab the front of her gown and start flapping it off her body to get air moving... who knew, it might scare the dragonets! And that would never do. So she stood still, trying to watch and concentrate. Trying to pay attention ... and ignore the heat.
Nris received a glaring blast of reality again, when she suddenly discovered a gorgeously green dragon looking up at her. She'd said something ... what had she said? Oh, but she was so rich in color! ... even if she was kinda gangly looking... And she was so sweet...! Nris' heart swelled with love for the little dragon, and then she collapsed in a dead faint.
The gangly looking green stared in horror as her newly chosen Hers folded up and tumbled into the sands before her. Mine! Nrismine! She cried in alarm, hunger suddenly forgotten in the alarm of the situation. Lilliemeneth lifted a fore foot and dropped her head down, but did not move from where she was standing, terrified for hers. Sending up a wail, she started looking around for someone to help. Hers was sleeping on the sands! That couldn't be good! Mine! Someone help mine!! Lilliemeneth requested, desperately, of anyone who would.

He was just about to flail and give up after he saw the Bird of Paradise egg break apart and it's blue contents spill out and choose a girl. That was it he thought, he was done and over with. So he thought of slinking off and slipping through the nearest exit before anyone could tell that once again he was standing around partnerless. However in some sort of leap of faith he stood for the last egg to hatch, and it did with a vengeance.
The dragon didn't just escape, it practically punched it's way through like a Pernese action hero. Kasella paused in admiration for the dragon's chutzpah, not thinking for a second that the pointed stare was meant for him. Not from the moment he hatched, to the moment the dragon made his swift steps over to him. Even when the dragon knocked him over he suspected he was going to be an innocent bystander caught in a freak mauling, and that the voice was merely hallucinations from the intense heat of the sands.
He felt himself drop with a resounding thud, the sand was hardly a softening cushion when your attacker was a freshly hatched brown. And that voice, oh that voice, it meant business. As soon as he was able to gather his bearings he sat up stiffly You are not that hurt. But if you don't feed me.... Kasella...or K'sel was being more compliant than he probably ever was in his life he quickly got to his feet and ushered to dragon off towards food.

Merridan's shoulders slumped in a brief moment of disappointment. No dragon for her. Then she shrugged, smiled and joined in the applause for the newly impressed. She could always try next time. She had plenty to do the keep her busy until then. Living at the Weyr was still something she wanted to do, even if she never impressed. They weren't going to get ride of her so easily!
Mer turned to leave the sands when she realized that one of the hatchlings hadn't left yet. She cocked her head curiously then rolled her eyes. Had the girl seriously fainted? How pathetic was that? But Mer couldn't just leave her there and it was clearly making the little green very upset. With a sigh, she trotted over, knelt down and gave Nris a firm shake. "Oi!" she called. "Wake up, girl!" If only she had some water to dump on her, that would probably be more effective.

Nris did not react at all to being shaken, still quite out of the world. All whilst her new hatchling dragon stressed out over her. It was plain that Nris was not dead, for Lilliemeneth was still there ... and still stressing.
Mine! Mine! Are you ok? Mine! Wake up, please! Mine! Ohhhh ... can you help mine? Mine is asleep ... and during the day! Mine is not a wher! Please help mine...! she beseeched, of Merridan, litterally hopping in place with so much emotion.

Merridan sighed. She wasn't having any luck in waking the girl and her green was becoming increasingly distressed. Nris's cheeks were flushed and she felt warm to the touch. Overheated, Mer thought. It hadn't occurred to her how hot is was on the sands until now. She was used to working in her father's forge where sweltering heat was the norm.
Mer turned to the young green in surprise as her panicked words interrupted her thoughts. Even Behruth, Checkoth, and Oquith had never spoken to her directly during the efforts to help after the attack. They were the only dragons she knew personally so far. Hearing the voice was odd, but she didn't have time to wonder about it. She had to get Nris awake before her dragon had a fit.
"I'm trying," Mer grumbled a response. If only she had some water. She turned to the crowd. Why were they just sitting there? "Hey! Anyone got some water?" Without waiting to see, she leaned down and slapped Nris on the cheek. "Wake up already," she muttered to herself.

Crevenaire scrambled down through the stands, jumping over the rail at the bottom, and sprinted across the sands. Oh! That was hot! She had no idea the sands were so hot! Dancing across the sands, she reached the passed out girl and the other one who hadn't impressed. "Here!" She said, stripping off the canteen she always carried from her hip, handing it to her.
"Is she ok?" She asked, with concern. "We should get her off the sand ... it's sharding hot!" she said, dancing from foot to foot.

Mer's eyes lit up. Water at last! "Thanks!" She took the water from the woman and looked at Nris thoughtfully. She showed no signs of waking up and Mer was getting impatient. Barely hesitating, Mer tipped the canteen over and dumped nearly half it's contents on Nris's face. That aught to do the trick if anything would.
"I'm sure she'll be fine," Mer was saying as she poured the water. Then she set the canteen down and waited to see if the girl would respond. If this didn't work, getting her off the sands was probably best. It was awfully hot. Even if she didn't mind, that didn't mean everyone could tolerate it. "If you help me," she addressed Crevenaire. "I think we can carry her over there." She gestured to an open stop near the feeding tables. "Then at least her dragon can get something to eat." The green must be hungry, being all panicked on top of hatching.
