Hepaticath and Ciceroth proudly present...
The Ben & Jerry's Clutch
Grouped in a tight cluster very near the couch on which Hepaticath rests, this clutch of eggs is largely painted in shades of brown and white. However, all of the eggs are quite sizable, if one is lucky enough to be able to catch a glimpse of them. Hepaticath is an extremely overprotective mother, and after the problems with High Reaches last time, she may not let people in for a peek.
Cherry Garcia
This egg is of an odd shape in comparison to its peers. It is almost as though someone smooshed two eggs together, and the result is a single shell with an indent running vertically around it. Thankfully, the indent is not very deep, and Hepaticath’s careful attention toward the egg should comfort those who are concerned about the hatchling inside. The shell is a curious shade of light brown, sprinkled in with irregular splotches of dark red and chocolate brown with no real regard for pattern or order. Thankfully, the colors of this egg are not so bright as some of the others, so a person can stare without feeling as though they might go blind. Still, despite the dull colors, this smooth little egg is enough to lift anyone’s spirits, and nothing, not even the close proximity of its Peach Cobbler clutchsibling can dampen the mood.
Peach Cobbler
This is undeniably a gorgeous egg, of a larger size in comparison to some of the others. Its shape and texture are nothing very special, the only noticeable thing being the slightly lumpier midsection of the egg compared to the fine-gravel texture at the ends. The colors, however, are enough to make the mouth water. A delicate golden brown cap crowns each end of the egg, and the top of the egg is marked with a circle of six perfect isosceles triangles, the long points of which all point towards the very tip of the egg. The rest of the egg is covered by mild orange semi-circles that overlap each other and a light brown background. There are a smattering of speckles all through the midsection of the egg, tiny and almost indiscernible brown spots that make the egg seem almost edible. The feeling of the egg, however, is completely at odds to its delectable appearance. How strange that something so lovely is so… cold and unfeeling.
Phish Food
This little egg is a strange one, a bizarre mix of color and texture that forms a rather off-putting sort of egg. The shell is lumpy all over in such an odd way that one has to wonder how it can stay upright. The lumps are not limited to visible oddities, though, as a person running a hand over the shell can feel innumerable lumps and bumps and indents that are too small to be visible to the naked eye. The entire egg is a deep shade of brown that is scattered with spots of bright white and toffee, the spots not correlating in the least with the irregularities in the shape of the shell. This funky little egg seems a little disconsolate about its appearance, and maybe it would be best to whisper about its oddities somewhere where it can’t hear you.
Strawberry Cheesecake
This tiny little egg looks almost too small to belong to one of Hepaticath’s clutches, a bitty little blip that seems to prefer to be mostly buried in the sand to hide its shame. Its ‘shame’ is the color of its shell, a pale shade of pink with swirls of light brown. The tan swirls feel almost like thousands of tiny little braids in comparison to the silky smoothness of the pink areas of the shell. This pink is cheerful, rosy, and entirely misleading as to the nature of the creature inside, for anyone touching the egg will find themselves wishing they hadn’t. Dark thoughts cloud this egg… dark and vicious. The creature hates those around it. Only about a third of the shell is actually showing above the mound of sand, perhaps because Hepaticath can sense the creature inside wishes to remain largely undisturbed.
Banana Split
This egg is one of the most colorful of the bunch, despite the fact that it is still strangely lacking the brilliant colors that Hepaticath’s eggs were previously known for. The bottom of the egg is a bright yellow that fades into a ring of offwhite near the middle of the egg. Most of the rest of the egg is a swirling and splotchy mess of light and dark browns, topped up with a crowning spot of red that is just off-center on the top of the egg. The egg has a pleasing sort of texture, neither too smooth nor too rough and lumpy, instead just a strange sort of feel that encourages the candidates to touch it again. And again. And… again. Thankfully for all, this egg does not seem to be a dark brooder, like the nearby Strawberry Cheesecake Egg, so it welcomes the attention bestowed upon it. Aren’t its colors just so pretty?
Karamel Sutra
This large egg is the center of the tight cluster, and it stands proudly in its place, looming over the other eggs with such dignity and poise. Its shell is smooth to the touch, silky in a way that incites a feeling of great tactile pleasure upon contact. Candidates will undoubtedly want to linger over this egg, and the egg itself does not seem to repel such advances. In fact, it welcomes the attention, particularly that of the female candidates, to whom it extends feelings of muted pleasure and wordless enjoyment. The males do not receive such positive attention, but they are given no negative feelings instead, just a sensation of acceptance. The coloration of the shell is a swirling of beautiful dull gold and dark brown ribbons, intertwined in various enticing patterns all over the shell. People are advised to not stare too long; they might become dizzy or hypnotized by the power of it.
Peanut Butter Cup
Glossy in appearance, this medium-sized egg is tucked near the edge of the cluster of its clutchsiblings, standing perfectly upright next to the crooked Half-Baked egg that sits beside it. This egg is standard in shape and in color, a dark brown background smudged with hints of darker and lighter brown in no seemingly discernable pattern. The glossy overtone to the colors are the only remarkable thing about the egg until one decides to lay a hand on the shell. Except for a smooth ‘cap’ at the top and bottom, small long ridges run from the top of the shell to the bottom, forming a wonderful texture to run one’s hand over from side to side. Strangely, the dragon inside this shell seems unconcerned with the outside world, happily living in its own little bubble of egg sac and shell with no real concern for whose hand drifts over its egg.
Mint Chocolate Cookie
Green. Green, green, green. Breaking with the muted shades of yellows and browns that mark most of the rest of the eggs, this shell is colored nearly entirely in a pale, smooth green. Teensy black speckles and perfectly round black spots of uniform size dot the surface, black polka dots over a nice layer of green. Keeping with its own pattern of breaking the pattern of the clutch, this fat little egg is more reminiscent of a sphere than a true dragon egg, a fact that makes it difficult for Hepaticath to keep it in place. It has to be buried up to its middle in sand to keep from rolling, but somehow, it keeps getting free. Sabotage is suspected, though the egg seems to be suffering no damage from its misadventures. If anything, the creature inside seems more lively after a good roll-around.
Cake Batter
The majority of this egg’s shell is a somewhat dull shade of yellow, wholly unremarkable save for the fact that it looks perfectly edible. Something about the texture of the shell gives off the appearance of a blob of pudding. Swirled throughout the shell are dark brown traces, little swirls of chocolate amongst the vanilla of the remainder of the shell. Though you might be tempted to lick it, it would be best to restrain yourself. Hepaticath does not take kindly to the implication of someone trying to eat her eggs. Thankfully, the egg (or, more accurately, the creature inside of it) does not seem to mind that most people find it yummy to look at. Any attention is good attention, right?
Americone Dream
On the smaller side of average compared to its clutchsiblings, this egg’s shell is dominated by a blotchy pattern of various shades of brown and white, almost a coat of camouflage were it not for the stark whiteness of those white patches. The shell looks very smooth and consistent, but anyone who lays a hand on it will find themselves bleeding from little pinpricks. The shell is sharp in places, and one can only hope it formed that way after Hepaticath rid herself of it. The little tiny ridges on the shell are more noticeable with bloodstains, so the last candidate to get to this egg might have warning enough to know not to touch it. The only smooth spot on it is a circular patch on one side, and those lucky enough to be in contact with the egg for more than a second will find themselves richly rewarded with a flood of passionately warm and almost overwhelmingly good feelings. The creature inside obviously adores others.
Chocolate Fudge Brownie
To be perfectly honest, it might seem like someone switched a giant lump of dragon dung in for one of the eggs. The egg is a slightly lumpy one, very dark and mottled in color such that it is difficult to tell what is shell color and what is shadow. The colors are all varying shades of very dark brown, some of which look slightly more appetizing while others just… don’t. The primary color is a rich chocolatey sort of hue that somehow gets overshadowed by all of the less edible-seeming shades that are splotched in, over, and around it. The shell feels almost slick in a nauseating sort of way, and most candidates will probably not want to stay in contact with it for very long given that fact. That is a true shame, though, considering this little egg fairly radiates sweetness. Anyone and everyone who even strays near it will be rewarded with sensations of love and adoration.
Chunky Monkey
This large egg is perhaps not the greatest in height, but what it lacks there it more than makes up for in girth, being quite the stout and formidable sort of egg. The surface of the shell is uneven, almost slightly lumpy in a manner that is seemingly without pattern all the way around. Thankfully, none of the protrusions are very sharp or even well-defined, instead just strange bulges of various sizes with random spacing all over the surface of the shell. The color of the shell is not especially remarkable, a pale yellow color that is somehow not sickly but instead cheery in appearance. Scattered over the shell and inconsistent with the lumpy pattern are dark brown splotches of various colors. What the shape of each splotch is could be debated endlessly and will probably be the topic of various discussions for those who choose to stare long enough. Settled at the edge of the clutch, this egg seems muted in sensation compared to some of its clutchmates, content to just sit and let things roll on by without trouble.
Half-Baked
One egg… or two? Like its Cherry Garcia clutchsibling, this egg looks like two eggs became smashed together to form this single egg. The shape of the egg is flawless, smooth without any noticeable lumps, bumps, or imperfections. The egg’s coloration is split roughly down the middle in a squiggly border that runs vertically around the shell. One half of the shell is an edible dark brown in color, and the other is a very pale tan in color. Sprinkled all over both sides are irregular circles of light brown, and inside those circles are smaller dots of a shade of dark brown that is near to black. The shell is slightly warmer to the touch than the others, perhaps indicative of the activity going on inside. This egg is eerie to touch, giving one a sensation that someone has plucked a gitar string that refuses to stop vibrating. This curious, constant vibrating is the only feeling that comes from the egg, the creature inside a great mystery.
