Elysia was on her way back when something collided with her chest. She back stepped in surprise and then blinked down at the little wet brown creature clinging to her chest. As he turned his adoring gaze up towards her she sucked in a breath. Oh she was nice and lovely and she would feed him please? He was very hungry. Slowly and carefully the greenrider plucked the baby brown flit off her chest and held him aloft for inspection. The Watermelon brown merely hung and chirped lovingly. Food yes? Oh you got one. He is very good looking isn’t he? Handsome. What will we call him mine love? “I don’t know.” Elysia breathed quietly and out loud as she cradled the flit against her chest and offered him a piece of meat. He snapped it up quickly and turned his head back towards her maw open and waiting for more.
Moving towards the door and out of the press of people she murmured and fed the tiny brown. Nothing seemed to faze him. Not the press of people, the chaos around, or the noise. Then again it could just be that he was hungry and nothing else mattered. Poised her new baby was. At least at the moment. It took the greenrider a minute or two to come up with a suitable name. Baron. It fit, it sounded tough and masculine yet it also had a refined ring to it. Yes Baron would do.
I like that name. I hope it fits our new little one. I want to see him. “Yes I know Onyth. I am coming.” No part of her wanted to stick around the press of people much longer anyway. She had come for food and she would return with a flit. Ah well she could always get a drudge to bring something up later. Right now she wanted to show Onyth the new addition to their little family.
~~~
Tynaris watched in fascination as more of the little babies impressed. How many where left? Five had already impressed how many had they started out with? He didn’t know. He hadn’t been close when the pillow was brought in. Hopefully there where still enough that he had a shot.
Tucking his shell necklace back into his shirt he leaned back in his chair to watch the rest of the hatching. People watching was almost just as fun though and he found himself torn between watching the nest and the other hopefuls.
M'kai supressed a smirk at Nephele's blush. So he made her uncomfortable now, did he? That could be used to his advantage, but not now. Instead he turned the smirk into a gentle smile, and stepped back to get out of the way of the fire lizards that had found their people- namely, Nephele and her friend, someone M'kai recognized but wasn't sure where from.
He allowed his eyes to wander past the candidate staring at the clutch as if he could control it with his mind. Some people just didn't understand how to impress, he thought, conveniently forgetting that he'd spent nearly two decades without so much as a pet fish. A goodlooking Greenrider's treatment of the boy made M'kai grin; Todmund had just about withered when Elysia spun him around, not to mention how he looked after she'd moved on. Well, M'kai thought, at least his mind was off the clutch.
Tenlie offered Miguel a gentle smile, squezing his fingers before releasing the pressure a bit. "I do be Tenlie," she offered. "What be your name?" Once they had been properly introduced, she started pointing out which eggs she thought would hatch next, making a game out of it. "Who do you think that Green do be going to?" she asked, watching the Storms of Spring Green huff off down the table. Nephele was the answer, of course, so she pointed at the egg now in Rose's forepaws, opening her mouth to ask what Miguel thought that one would hatch.
What came out instead was "Eek!" as she danced sideways, dropping Miguel's hand. "What the SHARDS?" she demanded, bending over to fish the blue out of the cuff of her short pants, holding him by the scruff of his neck. Curling himself into an impossible looking ball, the blue squaked his indignation, still peering in every direction. "You do be..." Tenlie murmured, still confused by the addition of a little ball of feelings that were distinctly not hers (and were very, very suspicious). Watching the Blue's head whip around, though, made Tenlie laugh. "You do remind me of one of my Glassmasters, little one, the one in charge of new apprentices. Master Pavato, but we all did call him Big Brother. What do you think of that?" she asked. Big Brother ignored her, more worried about some very tall people over his left shoulder. There MUST be something wrong with them, no one should be so tall.
Azaran twitched his wings as the fields of flowers Blue backed up off the pillow. Ouch? Was the little one okay? He chirped in concern, but the rocking eggs stole his attention once more. The Bronze put a paw to his muzzle as Rose began to turn the eggs again, couldn't she just let the poor little ones alone for a while? Turning them was going to make them dizzy! When the Watermelon Brown chirped at him, Azaran crooned happily. Moving his tail as the brown strode past him, the older firelizard gently poked his nose at one of the closest eggs, sniffing it quietly. He was distracted with the egg when the Petal Blue hatched, not noticing the Queen when she dumped him out. The hissing though, that brought his attention around. Oh dear, she had the Blueling by the tail.
As the two separated, Azaran tracked the Bluelings trek across the pillow. Tilting his head slightly he cheeped at the other male, the Bronze greeted him happily before his attention was stolen by another egg.
--
When the Blue dropped off of the table, Eliah held onto Rishin's collar in case she decided to lunge after the flitter playfully. Using his other hand to stroke her head, the Candidate watched as more of the clutch hatched. First a Brown, who quickly headed off toward a woman and a Blue who well... seemed to be sulking in the corner of the pillow. He didn't know how diverse a Flitter hatching could be. It was probably naive of him to assume that it was only Dragon and wher hatchings that showed such a diverse emotional range at birth, but then again, he had been positively cut off at Hyphen because of his family. Shifting his position so that Rishin was resting against the lip of the chair rather than his leg, Eliah let go of her collar. The young blue was no longer on the floor, so he didn't have to hold onto her any more.
What was this? Cer’c peered curiously at the throng of people that had suddenly assembled in the Main Hall. They were particularly noisy with waves of loud gasps that seem to rise up every few minutes. Completely forgetting what he was doing and where he was going, the junior weyrling skipped over and tried see what all the fuss was about. Jumping granted him a few glimpses the spectacle, which appeared to be a Rose making a giant fuss over what looked to be a ripped up blanket? Pillow? Something feathery.
“What’s going on heeeerrreeee?!” he exclaimed to no one in particular. Eventually, it became somewhat clear what was going on. “OMIFARNARTHFLITTERS!” Cer’c eyes lit up and he started bouncing sideways in an attempt to find a path closer. He had a dragon and a firelizard already (<3 <3 <3 Harmonyth! <3 <3 <3 Eee!) but seeing baby mini-dragons brought him great joy even if they had all chosen a bonded.
So off he went, jumping and bouncing around the perimeter of the group like an oversized cricket.
Harmonyth was sprawled outside, fidgeting at the emotions emanating from Hers. They were all happy so she wasn’t worried, but it was… a bit overwhelming nonetheless. Cer’clove~ What’s going on? Her mindvoice was simply inquisitive as she did her best to hold back her unease. How silly. Nothing would happen to Cer’chers.
Flitters! L’nu’s gold’s eggs are hatching! Cer’c immediately sent her an image of what he was seeing, except his jumping was making the scene intensely nauseating for the green.
Harmonyth squeezed her faceted eyes closed to no avail. Oh? That is… very nice.
The Petal Blue looked at Azaran, and then scowled deeply. Even him, the big bronze! More interested in the stupid egg sitting there doing … what? Nothing? What was wrong with the world? Why was he so ignored and mistreated?! Getting to his feet, he tried to wade across the pillow on short legs. Needless to say, it didn't work too well. He floundered more than anything else, and eventually just splatted off the far edge, sulking. No one liked him! It was proof! But he'd show them! He was better than the rest! Lifting his ridiculously short tail, he waddled across the top of the table over toward where Ellie was perched. Looking up at her, he peeped. Surely she would treat him right? She was nicer than Rose (simply because she hadn't pulled his tail yet), so she would! Right? He looked around to see who all was there… right now he wasn't particularly thinking of food, it was the least of his concerns. His trodden-on feelings were bothering him more. He wanted someone who would see him for his true worth and treat him grandly. Someone … ah hah! Someone who was already adored by so many was surely good! The Petal Blue trundled traipsed across the table top on his little legs, all the way to where the closest point to where R'wign was standing. With a valiant cry, he shoved off of the edge like a tugboat into a river: most would expect him to crash. But he didn't. For all his other lacks, he actually had nice wings. Unfortunately, he couldn't steer too well with such a short tail. Instead of landing on his mark, he ended up zipping past R'wign and crashing into one of the many flitters around him in a spectacular display of limbs and pieces. However, it was a softer landing than anything else would have been …? Rather proud of himself, he righted himself and looked at R'wign expectantly.
In the nest, three of the four remaining eggs all hatched as one, as if they had planned it that way. Synchronized hatching … who would have thought? The big Rainflower Egg in the middle shattered to reveal a fine bronze hatchling. He straightened, but remained where he was, arching his neck regally before looking to either side at his siblings. Both were green, one each from the Pollen in the Air Egg and the Crazy Grass Egg. Both of which were upside down in the remains of their utterly destroyed eggs. The Crazy Grass Green rolled over first, and sat up as she blinked at the sand in front of her. She was quite a pretty creature, if somewhat pale … but she didn't seem overly concerned with anything at all. Looking up, she peeped with curiosity at her much larger brother. On his far side, the Pollen Green flailed a bit until she too managed to roll over upright. She, too, sat there and stared. But there was more to her stare than her sister's… when she looked at someone, they got the feeling they were really being watched in minute detail, if aloofly.
Rose chirped happily, and picked up the very last, remaining egg, turning it over. Only one more to go!! It was wobbling in her grasp, so she knew for sure it was not dead. Setting it down, she looked at the three arranged before her. Why were they just sitting there? They had things to do, yes? Go! Rose chirped at them, encouraging them to do what Azaran had said was best … go find someone to feed them. Help them grow strong and healthy!
The Rainflower Bronze chirped back, and then nudged first one sister and then the other. Getting to his feet, he sauntered across the pillow and down off it gracefully to the hard tabletop. There, he paused to flap his wings and make as big of a show as he could. Everyone could see him, yes?
Behind him, the Crazy Grass Green peeped curiously. Do … what? Now? Um … okay! That sounded like a good idea, so she hopped up, gave her wings an experimental flap, and then tried her wings at flying. Of course, just as soon as she managed to pull off the feat called flight, she forgot why she was doing it. Cruising in a crazy, wobbly circle over the table, she chirped in alarm. What now?! Legs splayed out to all four corners as she flapped desperately, she dive bombed for a landing. It was scary up there!! Piling up in Eliah's lap right there not far from the nest she'd started out in, she righted herself for the second time that day and looked up at him. The biggest flitter-grin of all graced her happy little face.
Petal Blue
Color: Blue Impressed to: R'wign Appearance: This is another flitter with a normal body. But the attachments seem to be all mixed up for being normal the rest of the way. This blue is bestowed lovingly with very short, stubby legs that are often held out to the sides. When he walks places, it makes for more of a scuttling, side to side motion, his belly hardly held above the floor. If he ends up outside, he very well may end up spending more time flopping past obstacles than actually walking over them. He also has a very little tail. Not only is it short, but it is thin. Which makes flying for him difficult at best, despite having normal sized wings for his weight. While he can fly, and quite well at times, it is an exercise to do so, wearing him out quickly, as balance is a very hard thing to attain for him with such a short tail. Steering is also a fairly large issue, and he much prefers wider spaces to fly in for fear of smacking into things.
His hide is blue, no doubt about it. But there is no one shade to it. His coloring is more like many layers of paint all poured together in shades of blue from black to white, then vigorously stirred with a small stick so that the blended variegations were all swirled together. Two large, prominent swirls decorate his sides, and the marks on his wings are aligned in such a way that it looks more like the direction of airflow over his wings as he flies, swirling near the front, ends, and rear edges of the sails, but more or less wavy-straight for the middles. His neck and tail are simply swirled with no rhyme or reason to the pattern.
Personality: Always grumpy, he is. But not for the typical reasons. He always feels slighted, no matter what happens. Even when he has the upper hand. It gets worse when it comes to his owner, as he will perceive that someone or something else is getting more, better attention. More, better stuff. Nothing is ever good enough when it is given to him, because he thinks someone, something else got better. Jealous of attention, items, food, anything, he will often sulk, grump, or in general be aloof.
His bowl is never half full, it's always half empty. Others' bowls are half full, and he wants those, and is always resentful because it wasn't given to him originally. Even if it was either less than what he originally had, or was not as good, his perceptions are plainly skewed. Some might say he looks for reasons to be unhappy, no matter what his allotment is. As a side effect to the jealousy, he feels he shouldn't have to do anything at all … he already did plenty and was not rewarded suitably to his tastes for his efforts. There really is no way to make this fellow happy at all.
Crazy Grass Green
Color: Green Impressed to: Eliah Appearance: Pale, pale green of new forest growth is the underlying color of this little girl. Sprawling neatly all over her body in a very even dispersment is a light, slightly darker leafy pattern. It looks a lot as if she is merely sitting in the shadow of a delicate plant with very small, roundish leaves.
Her body small all around, a very dainty creature indeed. Even with the leafy coloration, she looks every bit the refined lady that really ought not lift anything too heavy at all lest she break a couple bones. Very lightly muscled with graceful, delicate fingers, she does manage to be fairly streamlined. When she flies, it is a very graceful action as her body sloughs right through the air as if she didn't exist at all to create any resistance. Fluttering through the forest, she sometimes can pull off the appearance of an ethereal spirit appearing and vanishing against the leaves.
Personality: Looks do not make up everything, and this little girl makes that point very clearly all by herself. Though a pretty little creature, she doesn't seem to have much of a mind. All greens are forgetful to an extent, but this little green seems to have gotten the short end of the stick when it came to retaining memories. She will forget just about anything almost as fast as she learns it. This leads to a daydreamy state at times, and an ever curious state at others. She spends so much time blowing through memories that she doesn't have the capability of holding grudges. With a temperament much akin to a very young child, she is very trusting of everyone and everything, even if they have previously done her wrong. She is everyone's friend, for eternity. Doesn't matter who or what you are.
Her owner should take great care to keep track of her, as she might eventually get herself eaten trying to be friendly to something that would really just rather eat her. Thankfully, the one thing she does remember all her life, is her human. Making it easier to keep track of her incidentally, she spends almost all of her time within arms reach of her person. It is almost as if she does not wish to forget they are there, and thus must always be there.
Azaran watched as the sulky Blue impressed to the PinkBrown one, at least the little male impressed to someone who he liked. He'd be happy with all of the flitters. Although... he wondered how his favorite Green would take the new addition. Turning his head back toward the nest, he flared his wings slightly in surprise. Two little Greens and a Bronze! Oh how nice they looked all curled and tangled up together. To tell the truth, Azaran was a little miffed that he had sired only one Bronzeling in this clutch so far. It had to be Rose's fault, but of course, he'd never say that out loud. He trilled happily at the three hatchlings as they righted themselves within the pillow, sneezing as he inhaled a flying piece of fluff. Redirecting his head until his sneezes stopped coming, he looked back in time to see one of the Greenlings impress.
Pushing her plate away, Kaegan gathered Kai into her arms and shouldered her bag. She couldn't finish her meal, her stomach wouldn't let her consume anything more without feeling like it would burst. Maybe she was coming down with something like Kai had. She wouldn't be surprised if she was, it had happened before so it could happen again. Rocking onto her feet the Weyrwoman left her table and skirted the outside of the crowd, stopping on the boarder of it to call to her Firelizard. "Azzie. Love, we're leaving. Coming?"
Azaran turned to look at his Human when she called to him, torn between leaving with her and her hatchling and staying to watch the end of his own hatching. He hesitated. Maybe his would wait just a little while longer? The hatching was almost over. Sending her a few pictures, he cooed when she sighed and wondered over to a near by table and sat on the very edge. Oh good, she'd wait for him! He crooned lovingly again, before turning his attention back on the babies and the unhatched egg. He chirped happily at the remaining three, eying the Bronze as he showed off.
---
"Ouch." He winced when the short tailed Blue crashed into another flitter, wondering if it hurt as bad as the collision had looked. Eliah hoped it didn't. In the span of time it took him to tare his gaze from the Blue and replace it on the pillow, three more Flitters had hatched. Two Greens and a Bronze. The females were having trouble righting themselves, but from the flailing wings and their positions, it looked like they were getting on fine. One of the Greens took off from the table and turned in the air... in a circle... right toward him. RIGHT TOWARD HIM. "AHH!" He almost threw himself backward as the Green dive-bombed him, instead he pushed Rishin off of the chair so she wouldn't go after the Green when she landed.
He squawked as the female hit his legs, tossing his hands to either side to prevent her from rolling off and onto the floor. He didn't have the biggest lap after all. "Ow..." The Candidate hoped that he wouldn't have a bruise on his leg tomorrow from the impact. Well as long as the flitter was okay, he didn't mind. Looking down he twitched a little when he saw the rainbow colors swirl through the Green's eyes, he groaned. Not another pet to feed. Koulko was enough trouble, and Rishin ate like he starved her. What was his family going to say when he visited them with a Flitter? Sighing, Eliah smiled slightly as the Green's good nature trickled into his mind. As he stroked her head, he couldn't help but notice her patterning. "You look like you've got leave shapes all over you." A pause. "Lets be cliche... I'm going to call you Leifa." The little Green chirped, her eyes gently shifting color. "Oh you're hungry. Lets find you some food." Wow, it was weird feeling emotions that weren't his own. It was something he'd have to get used to.
The candidate smiled as he listened to the two talk amongst each other, giggling as X'rx was forced to agree with Eveyth's choice of name. Tobby once more glanced back toward the table with all of the eggs on it. "The Gold's your's?" He asked in clear awe as he looked up to L'nu. "She's a beauty." It was pretty clear that he longed for one of the critters for his own. "Is this her first clutch?" The boy added, before realizing that neither L'nu or X'rx was in front of him anymore. Tobby only had a to look a short ways to find them again in the crowd, but he declined to follow them. He could see everything from where he currently stood, and there was no use to go pushing through all the people.
As the next three eggs hatched, the candidate once more had his attention completely focused on them. There weren't many of the hatchlings left who hadn't Impressed, and Tobby was determined to actually see who these went to. So, of course, it was easy for him to see when the little blue crash landed into one of R'wign's brood. Not again! Tobby frowned at the brownrider for a moment, his childhood grudge against the man flaring up, before he looked away. It just wasn't any fair! Didn't he have enough flitters already? Why'd he have to keep coming to the Hatchings? With a soft grumble to himself, the young lad turned his eyes back to the table, now already half convinced that he wouldn't be Impressing this time around.
But that was no attitude! He sighed, trying to clear his head, and instead focused on sending loving thoughts to the remaining hatchlings. Somehow, he was determined to prove to the brownrider(who probably had no clue even who he was) that he too could Impress one of the little marvels.
R’wign crinkled his nose in response and looked at Grouch before poking the firelizard in the stomach stubbornly. This served to earn a series of insults directed straight at him before Grouch went back to scolding Lord – quite fascinated by the way the other firelizard seemed to cow to his will. There was no denying that Grouch was an unfriendly creature – there were only a handful of beings he’d listen to under dire circumstances and one meek little blue did not qualify. So, despite R’wign’s mental prodding, Grouch continued to chatter at Lord until R’wign literally brushed him away – which sent the firelizard hissing between in a fit of temper. He’d no doubt be back in a very short amount of time but at least he’d gone away and stopped bothering the little boy’s firelizard. For the moment. Ellie was too busy to talk sense into him; he usually trusted the gold to keep his grumpy blue in line. Sigh.
The launch into explanations made R’wign blink and then smile before he shook his head. “Don’t explain it. Are you under the impression that I’m mad at you? I’d rather Ellie’s babies go to people who will love them over those who won’t, and you obviously like that little guy.” He nodded emphatically before blinking at the speaking woman. He shrugged at her before saying to the little boy, “If you change your mind, don’t hesitate to ask~”
In the nest, Ellie regarded Rose with a hint of amusement; it seemed she was going to be respectful. Good. Her tail swished from side to side and she cooed to the hatchlings encouragingly. The sudden loud outburst from one of the greens made her jump away and Ellie moved a little further away from the clutch, one wing coming up to shield her head as if the loudness could be stopped. So many loud babies. She missed her own clutches which did not have quite so many loud babies – maybe it was because she wasn’t loud? Possible. The gold flicked her tail toward Azaran in greeting before leaning forward to look at the clutch, trying to greet each of the new babies in her own way – welcome to the world and all. The brown greeting her made Ellie puff up and she fluted a sweet greeting to him before nudging him encouragingly; obviously favoring. She liked browns, always had, and he was a proper baby, yes yes. So sweet. Not loud like that green…
Her focus turned back to the nest as the sound of cracking followed, and Ellie leaned her head forward to examine the new hatchling. She squeaked in surprise and peeped a hint of disapproval at Rose for grabbing the baby’s tail; didn’t she know she might hurt him that way? It wasn’t good to be so rough – much better to be gentle, they learned better that way. It was her first clutch, she’d learn, Ellie was sure. She actually nudged the larger, if younger gold gently; must calm down, please, relax and be easier on the babies. They were all lovely. Her focus was stolen back to the upset blue as he cheeped at her and Ellie turned to nudge him gently, reassuring; calm down, silly, it would be okay. She likely would’ve reassured him more if not for the fact that the blue then took off – presumably to find His – except –
SCREECH.
Ellie flinched as Roxie, having been landed on, flew into an assortment of screaming that was impossible to ignore. The green started flapping her wings and scolding like the end of the world was coming, all at the new blue. Her fury sent Stumpy between in terror, and Crash too disappeared, while Hazard literally hid his face behind a wing in embarrassment. Grouch was still gone, and Ellie flew over in a hurried show of worry, determined to stop Roxie from eating the little hatchling for daring to land on top of her.
Flailing in panic, R’wign scooped the little blue up and looked at Roxie who was still giving Rose a run for her money in how loud she could be. Only a very sharp hiss from Ellie stopped her, and it sent Roxie between in a fury. The gold resumed her usual spot on R’wign’s shoulders while he stroked the little blue and sighed in exasperation, “You don’t want me. I’ve already got six firelizards and a salamandyr. You really don’t.” But it was kind of futile, wasn’t it? The little male was already offended (and mortally so at Roxie’s behavior – why was she freaking out so?) so it was fairly obvious that he was stuck. Where was someone with food? Ellie leapt down into his hands and started grooming the baby firelizard as if he was her own and R’wign blew a raspberry in exasperation. “I blame you. He only picked me because he liked you. Honestly, El… Um, who has meat still…?”
Nephele stepped back once when Hoayamae offered the firelizard. She didn't say anything but she shook her head with amusement dancing in her eyes. The blue no more wanted to come to her than she wanted to take him from Mae. She was convinced he would do the kitchen woman good...though maybe no one else. Maybe she'd be more willing to part with meat for the weyrs' critters from then on. Of course, firelizards could just as easily fish for themselves. Sometimes she sent hers down to the coast but not often.
She hadn't noticed K'sel's approach until he was already talking. She looked at him rather blankly, not quite sure how she was supposed to act around him now. After she'd woken up after the flight expecting a specific person she'd realized it wasn't just a 'maybe' about liking them. It would be too weird to just randomly start being nice. Almost all of their meetings consisted of snarking at each other. Not to mention K'sel had pegged it right at that Gather way back. Nephele just didn't do relationships. She slipped on an amused mask and replied, "Hello K'sel. Not like I didn't have enough before her." She ignored the sarcasm, it just came as part of the package with him.
Another joined the little group and Nephele vaguely recognized him. She recognized him as someone who had often been in the kitchens, but that was all she knew about him. She was itching to edge away from so many people. She was beginning to feel a little trapped among so many guys. Mother's hatching had been okay despite the number of guys since Erilena had been near at hand, but without her....It was uncomfortable, to say the least. Nephele was on the verge of leaving when Elysia came over.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as she realized what the greenrider was doing. Poaching on her territory. The reach, the sway to her hips....All spoke of a person much like she still occasionally was. She'd been advertising what she had and she'd attempted to lure K'sel of all people. Jealousy rose up uninvited and she clenched down on the emotion. Elysia had moved on so there was no need to make a scene. Thinking about it, Nephele was pretty sure she recognized the woman though she'd never met her. Benden? Or just someone she'd seen around Selenitas? Hmm.
Nephele reached up and relieved Mother of keeping Diva from falling off. She cradled the green in her arms and was amused when the green grabbed at her hand with her forelegs as if trying to assert her claim on the girl. "Well, I've fed my little one now. I'm going back to my own food. Good luck," she told the others pleasantly. She smiled a little less innocently at M'kai, K'sel, and even X'rx before retreating to her food. She found she breathed a little easier away from the boys. She took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. She hated being surrounded by men.
Nhim's belly filled up surprisingly quickly, just in time for X'rx, K'sel and several other people to crowd around. Nhim scurried back up her arm and into Hoayamae's shirt again. Mae scowled and yanked him out again. "None of that," she scolded firmly, putting him on her shoulder like she'd seen others. Nhim crossed to the other shoulder, and made a move for her shirt again. She whacked him on the nose. He chirped sadly and hit in her hair, eying the crevis. He'd sneak in sooner or later.
Mae ignored him and turned to X'rx. "Minnie, eh," she looked at the fire lizard skeptically. It certainly was an odd one, she was sure. "You may," she agreed, a little grudgingly. She passed over the bowl. Not that she minded sharing, but what was she going to cook for dinner now? The bowl probably only had enough for Minnie left in it, and pretty soon even more of the little pests would need to be fed. She glanced at Nephele's departure and shrugged. The girl obviously didn't like the crowd.
Mae glanced around the room. She could already see that R'wign and a few others were going to need more meat for hatchlings and more were hatching every second. Just how many eggs were there anyway? "Looks like I better get more before they invade my kitchen," she said with a sigh. Nhim chirped helpfully. He didn't eat much. Mae turned to hurry back into the kitchen, calling over her shoulder to the group as she went. "But don't blame me if there's nothing to eat for supper!"
((If your character needs meat, Mae will be back with plenty next post. ^_^))
The Rainflower Bronze posed once more, casting his gaze across the faces present. He knew he was going to pick one ... it was something that he just knew. One such as he deserved to have a servant, after all. One to pamper him and feed him ... oh, yes. Feed especially. He was hungry. But not so hungry as to not take caution in his choice. Each was considered, weighed and measured in the values of a flitter's mind, before being discarded. Too big; would be clumsy, too crowded in other pets to lavish the attention needed, too depressed looking, too intent looking ... indeed, he needed someone perfect. Someone who had the energy to tend to his needs, who would cheerfully do the things that needed done. Someone that he could lay claim to, someone he would be proud to show off to other flitters. Yes, nothing less than perfection for the Rainflower Bronze!
But, sad to say, such as was reality was, there is no such thing as perfection, no matter the lens it is looked for with. So he was forced to either make his own way in the world with no servant at all, or simply settle for the best that was on hand. Deciding that less than perfect was better than nothing at all, the stately bronze bounced twice, flapping his wings. On the second bounce, he made it into the air. The first few flaps were a tad unsteady, but after that they evened out. Cruising as was proper of his station, the Rainflower Bronze circled the room, pursuing his quarry.
Definitely no lack of energy in this one. Finally, growing weary of the chase, he issued a sharp bark of an order. Hold still already!!!! And he'd better have food on hand, too ... he was hungry! Especially in having to chase one's servant down all around the world, sheesh. With no more ado, the Rainflower Bronze settled onto C'erc's shoulder, sternly chiding him for not attending to his needs. There were things to be done!!
Rose watched as her proud son made his debut into the main hall in such a strange fashion, then effected what was pretty much a queenly flitter shrug. Whatever. Her attention shifted to Ellie for a moment, watching the older Queen for a moment. Just who did she think she was, raining on her parade like that?! With a stern bark, Rose practically shoved Elegance away from the nest without actually touching her. More of a posturing, Rose held just enough respect to not actually grab and toss Elegance off the table. This was her nest, she would do as she pleased in her own nest, thankyouverymuch!
As such, she forgot the last egg she had been holding, abandoning it to hatch all on its own. Or ... not quite alone, as there was still one little green flitter in the nest. Tasting a feather thoughtfully, she spat it out again before watching as Azaran started sneezing up a storm. Oh! Was that what one did with feathers? She tried her hand at a sneeze, but it was obviously not a real sneeze. Confused, the Pollen in the Air Green turned her attention to other things. So, the going theme seemed to be that everyone needed a biggie to sit on. Well, the benifits seemed to be that there was ready food and a warm place to curl up and sleep. She could already see plenty of her siblings sound asleep after their exertions and first meal. Hm! Did she need someone? Not really. Did she want someone? Not really. Was she hungry? Kinda. Okay, yes. Very. Welll .... alright. Might as well. Getting to her feet, she bounced out of the nest now that her mind was made up. Time to act. Fluttering her wings, she bounced from one table to the other. It really couldn't be called flight, but it wasn't not flight, either. Scrambling for footing on the new table was a trick, as she'd landed on a slick spot. Apparently someone's hot roll had leaked butter... not the best landing strip, no. Once she regained her stance, she headed off down the table again, hunting. Hunting for that right body. The one that would take care of her, but not try to mush her into a cute little bow or worse. Finding her person, she stopped and struck a pose on the edge of the table. Front legs straight, back arced downward slightly and tail raised but straight, she lifted her wings and opened her mouth.
A raucous string of horrible sounds fit to label her quite accurately as Rose's daughter ensued. Demanding, yes. One would almost assume there was a healthy amount of biting sarcasm and maybe a few flitter swear-words thrown in for good measure. He had better get over here and feed her right now, she was hungry!! Finally, she fell silent for a breath. While she did, she just stared K'sel down. Eventually, a back foot started tapping on the table top.
The last, only lonely little egg rocked in the nest. Well ... maybe not so little. The Rain on the Pond egg was by far not a little thing. It was actually among the biggest eggs of the clutch. Why it was the last to hatch was anyone's guess... quite likely all the rolling from Rose had made the hatchling fear to come out to find an earthquake or worse. But now, now that the world was still once more, it wobbled and tumbled, trying to hatch at last. Tiny fissures cobwebbed across the surface, but the shell did not give way just yet. Instead the egg stilled, as if the hatchling inside were taking a breather of a break. Hatching was hard work, after all!
Color: Bronze Impressed To: C'erc Appearance: Easily the largest flitter in the clutch, he fails utterly when it comes to being the heaviest. He is by far out massed by his bulky brown brother, as his own form is quite lanky. Tall and distinguished he is, a powerful brute he is not. With a vaguely regal air to him, he walks with his head held high and a high step, wings usually carried at a jaunty angle that only emphasize his tall stature. His wings are longer than they strictly ought to be, though a tad narrower than they really ought to be. This makes him a tad more agile in the air than most bronzes or browns, but does cut into his flying power. If it weren't for his agility, he would quickly be left in the tail end of the pack.
His hide is a glistening, shiny-looking green-bronze in color, almost as if he was slimed by a combination of snot and river moss over something that might once have been a brilliant bronze creation. The patterning is not solid, but textured all over his body, making him a somewhat unattractive thing to behold when it comes to color. He doesn't seem to realize this, however, as he still carries that high step.
Personality: Somewhat self-absorbed, this bronze does have one redeeming quality to him. His person will always be safe, to the best of his ability. When everything is hunky dory, he is a calm, preening, attention-grabbing (hopefully) bronze. But when things get ugly, this bronze becomes a raging monster that is all teeth and talons and screaming shrieks. If it is in his ability, he will protect. And what is "his" is extended to anything that belongs to his, up to and including other pets that might otherwise be considered beneath him.
The only problem is in that his tolerance for stuff happening is really low. In his opinion, things get ugly long before they actually do. So to almost everyone around him, he is a lot like an overprotective attack flitter. It doesn't take much to set him off into his massively snarly rage mode. Though not aggressive at all when calm, he is a completely other flitter when riled up, no aggression withheld. He has a long memory, too. If someone did his person wrong, as much as a week later he can be caught dropping something from on high onto their head with a screamed insult. But only if he just happens to catch sight of them, for he does not actively seek people out to exact retribution.
Pollen in the Air Green
Color: Green Impressed to: K'sel
Personality: It is really a shame when a creature so pretty will not be handled lightly. She prefers to tend to her own, though she will hang around the general vicinity of the one that feeds her. Not at all a very affectionate creature in the least, she really would rather to be left completely alone as she stares down the world around her. Often times she will be found perched on something high, out of reach, staring intently at everything – especially things that move. She is highly suspicious of anything, really, but it is a passive suspicion, as she usually utterly fails to do anything about anything. It's really not worth her effort, after all.
When she does decide she needs or wants something (usually food) she gets really loud and obnoxious about it. Whatever it is she wants, it had best be tended to right now. Not later. Now. Once she gets it, though, she goes right back to her aloof mannerisms, staring at or ignoring people alternately.
Appearance: The colors of green on this little lady vary like ripples of water down the length of her body, starting just behind her earknobs and running all the way down her tail. Some might even argue that the lines are not waves at all, but tabby stripes – just in green. A series of darker green stripes range over her body, on a lighter emerald green base. She is not entirely green, however, as the end of her snout, all four feet, and the last inch of her tail are all such a pale green as they appear to be white. These areas only betray their pale green nature when laid against true-white objects, at which time the green tinge becomes apparent.
She is a very finely built creature with long limbs, neck, and tail, her wings light and long. A picture of grace, her form is all smooth lines that curve graciously from one point to the next. Her movements mirror this physical grace, as well, whether walking, bouncing, or flying, every movement is as fluid as water.
