Terilyn was upset. No that was an understatement. She was angry. More angry then she had ever been before. Not only was her daddy having a new baby with Ruliana but her brother had finally revealed to them that when he turned ten in May he wanted to start his apprenticeship in Healer Hall. To Terilyn it was all a betrayal of the worst kind. Didn’t any of them care about her? Didn’t they care what she wanted? What she thought of it all? Why was Riaren leaving her? Didn’t he love her? Was she not his best friend? She had spent the last few days in complete silence which was extremely unusual for her. When she was angry the girl normally yelled, complained, was snotty, and occasionally threw things. But this was a silent fury. One that she couldn’t let out in normal ways.
Finally the nine turn old had come to a decision. If they all didn’t care about her then she was simply going to punish them. She was going to run away and never come back and they could all just deal with the fact that it was all their fault! She had turned her head away from M’ta’s attempt to kiss her cheek this morning, outright ignored Ruliana’s pleasant “Have a good day!”, and outright refused her brother’s offer to walk together with Kai to the creche for the day. Nope. She was having none of it. Instead she simply let her feet drag as she slowly made her way after the pair of boys and then when she was sure they wouldn’t notice she darted into the nearest stone hallway.
She had begun to thoroughly explore the underground weyr when she was no more than four and knew most of the corridors like the back of her hand. Thus it didn’t take Terilyn long to reach the place where she had stuck a leather bag containing all her possessions that she thought important and a few changes of clothes. She had it all planned out. She just needed a ride. Couldn’t obviously ask Behruth and she only had a few candlemarks probably until someone discovered she was missing. All she needed was a ride away from Selenitas. Surely some dragon would indulge her?
With that thought in mind she made sure her hair had not escaped her braid, fixed a brown headband around her forehead, and then crept out into the weyrbowl. Most dragons were at drills or returning from them. M’ta and Behruth would be with the weyrlings. She was in the clear. Making her way out into the weyrbowl she slipped between this rock and that one near the lake and glanced at the dragons being oiled or lounging there, as well as some of the ones sunning on the ledges high above. Hmm. Surely one of them could be cajoled to take her north.
Reaching out her mind towards them she made herself known to them all with a light greeting. Hello lovelies! She greeted, mentally her mental tone bright and friendly. Would any of you be kind enough to help a lady in distress? There was just the slightest note of desperation added to the mental feeling. Just enough to inspire interest in the creatures.

Normally Detrith would not be caught just lounging around wasting time. After all, there were things to plan out actions to plot. Not to mention Bronzes and Golds to dote upon and follow about. However he had been brushed off and dismissed by one of the Bronzes and His was being difficult, so a short sunning was definitely in order. He was getting quite comfortable up along the ledge of the Weyrbowl when a small voice interrupted all that, Hello lovelies! Would any of you be kind enough to help a lady in distress?
One eye peeked open as he glanced lazily around him. It definitely was not one of the other dragons, the mindvoice was decidedly human - and young. So he stretched out his neck and tilted his head to one side until he saw the young girl. You do not look like a lady, nor do you appear to be in distress. He bespoke the girl, his voice would be just barely above a whisper in her mind.
Watching her for some time he finally stood and stretched out, much like a feline would, before spreading his wings to drop down into the Weyrbowl. Gently, with the ease that only comes with plenty of practice, he landed and made his way towards Terilyn, What could cause distress for a hatchling? You have all your bits and pieces, yes? You are not bleeding, correct? No one appears to be chasing you either. So please, tell me what was so important you must interrupt my nap.
He was neither warm nor cold towards the girl, just curious. Meanwhile T'vis was just leaving the dining hall, making his way through the Weyrbowl to his next destination. Seeing Detrith on the ground facing down a child he quickened his pace, That shiny got you in such a piss-poor mood you've taken to bullying kids now? Leave her alone blueblood!
Detrith blinked and turned his head towards His, Hatchling, this is mine. then to T'vis, The hatchling claimed to be a lady in distress. I was merely trying to find out what distresses her.

Had she not been patiently trying to filter out the backdrop of noise the murmuring dragons around her were making she might have missed it with how quietly he whispered. But Terilyn caught the end of Detrith’s mental whisper and locked onto his mental signature before carefully blocking out the others for now, leaving her with just the blue’s mental consciousness to concentrate on. It was an exercise she had been practicing since before she had learned to talk, the juggling of so many mental voices. Sometimes it was tiring but it had come to the point where it was comforting to hear them and if things were too silent it bothered her. The girl raised her head to turn it toward where the blue was lounging and locked eyes with him. He was pretty. Dark in coloration but a well put together beast. She tended to like blues a lot. There was not one who deigned not to speak to her and, though not all of them were overly friendly, their personalities were all as unique as their hides. Greens too were outgoing and tended to speak freely. Browns as well. It was the shiny ones who were a bit more snobbish. Even then she could normally charm something out of most of them. Some of them thought her a very interesting curiosity.
As Detrith landed Terilyn turned her body to face him and stood her ground smiling brightly up at the darkly colored blue. She thought to offer a hand to him as she often did Ruth but this was not her father’s dragon and she had learned that not all of the dragons liked to be touched. Some of them were more standoffish and they all needed to be treated with much respect. They were not anything like runners or dogs or cats. They were as varied as people and sometimes got offended just as easily. So she kept her hands at her sides and simply gazed up at the beast with nothing but confidence. There was not an ounce of fear in eyes or movement as she wrinkled her nose in response to his words. I didn’t mean to interrupt your nap. I’m sorry. And no I’m not hurt. I just need some help and I was hoping that someone would be able to assist me. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me. Stepping further towards him she examined the elegant lines to his neck the deep color to his hide and the tapering of his muzzle. A very elegant looking beast even if he was on the thin side. I’m trying to get away from a bad situation and I have the need for wings to carry me you see. She had begun before she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye and her head turned in unintentional synch with Detrith’s
Before Terilyn could form the words to the question that sprang into her mind the blue had already answered the question. Ah so then this man was his rider. Well then seemed she would have to try and charm both dragon and rider at the same time. She was hoping she could endear herself to the dragon before attempting the rider. Doing both at once was more of a challenge. But it was not challenge she would run from. Not at all. “Hello there.” Terilyn said brightly to T’vis and affected an innocent air. “I was just telling him that I needed some help. Maybe you both would be able to help me?” Suddenly she covered her mouth with her hand and offered him an apologetic look before lowering it. “I’m sorry. I forget my manners. I’m Terilyn. I’m afraid I haven’t gotten your name yet? I already know Detrith’s. I’ve heard him speak it. I’m afraid I don’t follow the names of the riders as well as I should.” That at least was the truth. The dragons always had ranked as far more important in her mind. She knew almost all of their names, and could recognize most by sight alone. It was hard to forget any of them. This perhaps wasn’t so amazing when you came to the realization that she had grown up in tune with all these minds.

"Terilyn?" T'vis eyed the young girl and hiked a brow up at her, "I've seen you before, haven't I?"
The bluerider looked thoughtful for a moment, he was sure he'd seen the tow headed young girl before - but not any time recently. Glancing towards Detrith, What made you interested in her? T'vis asked.
As I said, she asked me for help.
It dawned on T'vis then, he'd seen her before in the Weyrling Barracks. She had been smaller then, younger. "You're M'ta's kid aren't ya?"
Before she could respond, something else dawned on him, "Wait, hold up. You can speak to dragons? Any dragon you want? You don't know Detrith from any other blue yet you called him down. How long you been able to do that?" Gone was the concern as to whose brat she was, this was far far more interesting to the bluerider - he'd never had anyone else speak to Detrith without the aid of their own dragon or him. How was it this little girl was able to do so?
You must forgive mine, he is rather slow minded at times. Detrith explained to Terilyn, earning a glare from his rider. Where is it you wish my wings to take you, hatchling?
