Humans:
Name:V'rael (Vraelnîr)
Age:22
Gender:Male
Sexual Orientation:Hetero
Rank: Dragonrider
Physical Appearance:
Vraelnîr is a tall young man at 6'3 with a broad chest and shoulders. He is well tanned and keeps his facial hair shaven except for a goatee he has been carefully growing. His eyes are typically a stormy gray but occasionally they will color into a dark blue. He has a solid build and his facial features suggest a charismatic strength. His hands are calloused from work at sea and his unusually long fingers are nimble with both sail and rope. He keeps his dark brown hair shoulder length or shorter. Its just long enough for the ends to curl against his neck.
He has various scars but most of them were gained in his teenage years. They are mostly thin scars and faded with age on his arms, hands and legs. The most prominent scar is a small white cut into his thumb from a fish hook.
He typically dresses in loose pants or shorts with open shirts, favoring the ocean wind against his chest. Away from the sea he will favor dark pants and sleeveless shirts of colors such as white, gray, burgundy and blue.
Personality: Vraelnîr is a serious young man who values loyalty and dedication. He greatly dislikes rest and when sick he is still trying to do things. He expects the people he works with to put forth as much effort as he does. He has a strong patient side though and will try to coach some one to be a better worker before letting them go. He likes to see people rise above their hurdles and achieve. He feels very close to the ocean and views the ocean not only as a means of sustenance but as a great teacher and tester of men and women alike.
He is not adverse to women sailing but will expect the same work as a man. He greatly admires a woman strong enough to sail the open water and believes that all men and women have strength if they are willing to learn and work with no holding back. He does not idly flirt with women even though the opportunity often presents its self.
He does have a lighter side if some one can reach it. When he does smile it lights up his eyes as well. A very honest man, he will be straight forward with his likes and dislikes. Those who earn his admiration and friendship are usually life long friends. Those who earn his distrust though have a long and hard road ahead if they want to change his perspective of them.
History:
Vraelnîr grew up in Southern Hold his whole life. His Father was a ship Captain and it was expected of him to one day do the same. When he was ten turns old he began going on fishing trips with his Father's crew. He was expected to work what he was able and was taught all the roles of a shipmate from the lowest deck hand and up. Turns went by and he fell in love with the sea. He studied hard and rose in rank among his father's crew. His Father never gave any favoritism and he never asked, knowing that by his hard work he earned his Father's respect.
At seventeen turns his Father died of a heart attack at sea. After the ship returned to harbor and his Father's burial was taken care of he took over his Father's ship. He kept the same faithful crew and continued to sail and fish as his Father before him. He was always at sea and thus had little social life to find a woman or decide to settle.
Thread didn't stop him from fishing. He would wait eagerly for the Thread to subside and go out to harvest a large catch from the hungry fish. Life went on the same for him for next three turns. He would sail, fish, invest his marks and spend little time elsewhere.
When he was 20 a large storm hit Southern Hold unexpectedly and his ship was destroyed as well as his home. His Mother died in storm from falling debris. He buried her next to his Father. Now he was truly with out family. He was also with out home and ship. Some people had suffered similar disasters but had family for support or still had their jobs. He was loath to the idea of working for another Captain.
It took him about a month of earning his way around and thinking before he thought of dragons. He had never thought much about dragon riders since they don't impact his livelihood unless Thread were eat his ship. As he thought of them and how they could be beneficial the thought occurred that a sky high creature would have more warning of bad weather than a seafaring one. He then began to think that if he knew that storms were coming before hand that people lives and work could be saved. So when a search rider came to Southern he was one of the few to go. It was obvious that people had mixed views about his leaving. Some understood, or thought they did, with his family gone. Others decided to dislike him for what they saw as running.
He wasn't at the Weyr long before impressing to Brown Taith. The cheerful dragon helped ease the grief he still felt for friends and family lost. He kept an active routine although weyrling training and into present time. Many things happened in just his first year alone. The River was poisoned, leaving many dead and making V'rael even more protective of Taith. It didn't seem to long after that Fort attacked Selenitas and he had to fight to protect Taith and others. He began to feel depressed, fearing that he joined Selenitas only to see more people (and dragons) he cared for die.
Then on the fateful night that Wastelander took over Selenitas the only thing holding him back was Taith. If not for Taith, V'rael would have fought-and died that night. He accepted their leadership with disdain, and decided he would bide his time....in hopes that something would happen to change Selenitas situation. From then on he has stayed away from gaining notice. Only doing his job, and looking out for Taith. During the past year he bonded with a green Mandyr who named herself Sexy and life became more interesting. Every once in a while he and Taith between to a remote area to get away from weyr life and to vent their frustrations.
Dark Chocolate Green
Name: Sexy
Age: Adult
Born: June 3016
Color: Base D1E231 Stripes 5E2605
Species: Mandyr
Looks to: V’rael
Physical Appearance:
This green is on the large side of the green size spectrum. She might measure nose to tip about the size of some small blues. Her body structure could best be described as soft. She’s not really fat but nor is she skinny. Instead falling somewhere neatly between. Perhaps just a bit heavier than what could be considered ideal weight for a mandyr. She’s a decently well put together creature except for the fact that her hind quarters are rather large. Giving her an almost pear shape. She will always sport a rather largish back end which is only accented by her rather long and thick tail. Her wings aren’t as large as most of her siblings. Nor are they as strong. This means she won’t be capable of flight as some of her siblings are but she will be a spectacular glider. She sports the same sharp tipped bony frill spines her mother does. Her’s being a quite shiny black. Instead of being straight however the tines have a bit of a wave to them. It gives her a quite interesting look when she has them extended.
Almost as if her body shape wanted to match her coloration she is a soft almost green yellow. The color of a pear in fact. The color is pretty much uniform only darkening slightly on her wing membranes. Little speckles of brown cover her body from nose to tail tip the speckling even present on the wing membrane. The congregation of brown specks varies along her body with the biggest concentration being present across her rear. Twin rows of the same brown run in spots down her spine ending where the brown raccoon rings start on her tail.
Personality:
This little girl is kind of quirky. Her vocabulary is about average for a green. Nothing special but at least she manages to get her point across. Well most of the time. She doesn’t seem to pay much attention to what is going on around her really. Instead it almost seems as if she is in her own little world. A world that just has to be so, so. She is obsessively clean with her living space. Her things must be placed in just such a way too. You see this green hoards things and not just things that are shiny. Anything she takes a fancy to could be added to her collection. Each new addition is placed in a particular place and fussed over until she thinks she has it is perfect. Then she will proceed to make sure all her collected items are still in their spaces. This behavior takes up nearly half of her day. The rest of her day is spent alternately paying attention to hers, finding new items, or fussing over her current ‘baby’. You see the green’s obsession with her items has a purpose. It’s a nesting behavior. She has an almost scary obsession with eggs and she doesn’t want to eat them either. Oh no. She wants to hatch them. She will frequently raid nests of any type for eggs. Flitter, darter, tunnelsnake, heck even dragon and wher if she could figure out a way to move it. However she will only acquire one egg at any given time. It doesn’t even matter if the egg is bigger than her either, she will do her level best to get it home and safe. Even if she has to get hers to help her do it.
The egg will be fussed and loved on and dotted on for whatever length of time necessary. Until it hatches or goes rotten. Most of the time they simply go rotten because she seems to mother them to death messing with them too often and moving them around the nest constantly. A lot of the time she doesn’t even realize it was gone rotten either so hers will have to beware or suffer the consequences should the egg break. After each of her failed attempts at motherhood she will go into a severe depression the only thing seeming to bring her out of it being, you guessed it, another egg. Should her attempts at motherhood ever succeed after a moment of shock she is likely to push the baby right out of her nest to make room for the next one. The green simply does not seem to know what to do with the creatures she mothered once they hatch. So besides rotten eggs hers might also find themselves with a grouping of confused and hungry babies. Joy! This mandyr doesn’t really pay much attention to others of her species, or even firelizards, unless they are female. Males seems to be completely invisible to her. In fact in matters of running she will only ever pick another green as a mate.
Tiger Brown
Name: Taith
Color Code: B74513
Impresses to: Vraelnir/V’rael (3014
Appearance: Taith is not large for a brown, about average in length for his color. His build is nothing spectacular either, seemingly not very large nor very slender. A close inspection will reveal this brown to be ripped with muscle, though, a dangerous and powerful creature when he chooses to flex that advantage. He could easily overpower most other browns and any smaller dragon and would probably be able to take on a bronze, given the power hidden in his seemingly-inconspicuous form. Only as he matures will that muscle become fully evident, and only then will he be treated with some respect. Until then, well… Taith is somewhat comical.
The amusement of onlookers will derive solely from the garish coloration of this brown’s hide. The majority of his hide is largely of an orange shade, and while some might find it rather cute, it is something of an eyesore when freshly oiled… and if a person is stupid enough to stare at it for that long. Across his rump are jagged dark chocolate stripes, starting and stopping and twisting and winding with no real pattern, providing a new degree of painful to anyone who looks at him for that long. Still, Taith himself seems immune to blinding qualities of his coloration, though His might get a headache from it.
Taith is positively lethal on the air and in the ground when he wants to be. His movements are quick, fluid, and surprisingly graceful for a creature of his size. He can leap very powerfully into the air and will probably be one of the first weyrlings to try gliding, simply because he refuses to stay landbound or completely still. Taith is nearly always in motion and only very still when he stalks. He will always hunt and fly well, and his prowess in the air will undoubtedly attract many females to him. Of course, they would have to overlook the orange-brown of his hide and his bewildering butt-markings, but those are minor details.
Personality: Powerful in presence and in personality, Taith is a force to be reckoned with from the sheer energy that he exudes. He flaunts his indomitable will and insatiable need to do whatever he wants in the face of those who would stubbornly uphold the laws. Taith hates laws and rules and prefers to do things by the proverbial seat of his pants. He is wholly unpredictable, impulsive, and reckless, even to the point of being undisciplined at times. Wherever he is or whatever he is doing, it is almost a guarantee that Taith is making some dragon of rank beat their head on a rock in utter frustration at his inability to follow orders. The weyrlingmaster and wingleaders who have to deal with him will have to find a way to work around his need to move at incredible speeds on whatever whim floats through his head. When he wants to go, he goes, and nothing on Pern (not even His) can stop him.
To go along with his impatience and recklessness, Taith can be incredibly aggressive, especially toward those who would challenge his right to cause chaos and mayhem wherever he goes. On the flipside, though, this aggression can be quite easily turned in defense of others. For all his wild unpredictability, Taith is very attuned to the needs of others, especially those who are shy or scared. He will work to get them excited, sharing his energy and enthusiasm until he feels they can stand on their own feet with some confidence. He loves to help and is the first in line to volunteer when there are people or dragonfolk in need. These are the rare occasions when he is focused and on task, for the duration of whatever event is at hand.
Taith’s cheerful generosity make him easy to befriend, and his passionate nature will make him very, very popular with the females. It would be unwise to expect him to stay steadily with one female, though one can never quite tell, given how unpredictable he can prove to be. The only thing that can be assured is that he will give wholeheartedly to his friends and to His, enjoying every moment of making them happy. Unfortunately, the thing that would make them most happy (his focus and obedience) is probably the one thing that he will never be able to give. Still, he will occasionally try when he can. Just… don’t expect him to try for too long. He enjoys too much his wild and crazy stunts.
