Name: Terilyn (Teri-Lyn)
Age: 9 turns
Birthdate: June 29th of 3013
Biological Parents: T'rid of bronze Corinth (deceased), Raylin of green Ebolath (deceased)
Adoptive Father: M'ta of brown Behruth
Adoptive Mother: Ruliana of Amalath
Adoptive Brother: Riaren
Appearance:
Terilyn’s most noticeable feature are her eyes. Wide and expressive they are a rather deep hazel color almost exactly the same shade as her biological father’s. Due to the difficulties her mother had with her birth the Terilyn got off to a rough start. Though this remedied quickly as she grew Terilyn is still a rather small and slight child. She can not quite be described as sickly though almost delicate would not be a wrong way to describe her in build. Not that that seems to stop her or hold her back when she wants to do something.
Her hair is a dark chestnut color, perhaps a shade darker than her fathers, but it is prone to developing natural highlights when she’s out in the sun. There is no doubt at all to the parentage of the child by looking at her if you knew either Raylin or T’rid. Rather short, as she continues to grow, there is no doubt that as she will be probably never be very tall and she will probably have the same slender body structure her mother had.
In clothing Terilyn is rather picky almost demanding to choose what she wears herself and she isn’t fond of skirts and dresses at all. They are far too restrictive in her opinion. If one wants to get her into a dress they better be ready to have one heck of a fight on their hands about it. Despite her revulsion for dresses Terilyn does tend to admire jewelry, like Ruliana often wears, and she will wear it when Ruliana allows her too. Though she does wish for her own jewelry some day.
Personality:
Almost seemingly from birth Terilyn has showed a remarkable amount of independence for a child. Seeking out what she wanted with a fearless tenacity. Extremely clingy and loving to those she trusts the amount of people this numbers is still very small. It’s not that she doesn’t trust people rather easily it’s just that she’s rather picky about who she tends to associate with. A lot of people simply annoy her sometimes and she’s not yet patient or skilled enough not to let this feeling show.
There is no doubt that the child is intelligent and Terilyn picks up on things rather quickly. She uses this intelligence to her advantage by being deliberately manipulative. When things don’t go her way Terilyn will attempt to change that in any way she can and if she fails to get a positive reaction despite her best efforts she will positively sulk. These moments are normally short lived but recently they have increased in intensity until she sometimes becomes almost outright defiant. Thankfully, despite her defiance and manipulation Terilyn is hardly ever malicious in her actions. In fact despair in any of her loved ones causes her to become extremely concerned, helpful, and loving in an attempt to soothe. She seems to be very in tune with the emotions around her and is able to pick up on even subtle emotional hints that most people would miss.
In public Terilyn is happy and bubbly to almost everyone she meets, though she still tends to be a little shy around most males. Other then that however she is loud and boisterous and not at all afraid to let her voice be heard even when the grownups are talking. After all she has things to say too. Stubborn in nature Terilyn will continue at something until she accomplishes it whether it be trying to convince M’ta of something, being the leader in one of her favorite games, or getting one of the more particularly stubborn dragons to answer her. This extreme stubbornness will no doubt be an asset and at times a hindrance to her as she grows.
She’s still a picky eater and she refuses to eat food she does not like the texture or taste of. Especially most green vegetables. Though she has a large sweet tooth and can often be bribed by sweets if you catch her in the right mood. As Terilyn grew it become apparent that her babbling to dragons is just not some random trait. In fact Terilyn was discovered to be a HAD (hear all dragons). Not only is she able to hear dragons and block them out at will, but she can also speak to them. She uses this ability frequently now and her memory for the names and mental signatures for dragons is staggering. Even if she can’t remember a rider if she has spoken to a dragon she will hardly forget it.
History:
3013-3016 Birth, Early childhood
Terilyn was born at the end of June in 3013 to her mother Raylin. (Her father T’rid having died a couple months previous.) Her labor was extremely hard on the greenrider and in her weakened state when the plague came though the weyr the woman had little defense. Raylin died before the little girl was even two months old. Terilyn was given to a wet-nurse in the creche and it was there she would have stayed if not for Behruth who had been good friends with her mother’s dragon Ebolath. As it was the brown dragon mentioned her to M’ta and his weyrmate and not long after the pair decided to adopt her.
Having lost both her parents before her sixth month of life, Terilyn had no recollection of them. To her, R'wign and M'ta were her parents. There was no denying that as the little girl grew she adored both men, though she seemed to have a particular fondness for M’ta. Riaren (having been born the same turn she was and only a few months older in age) she saw as something of a brother. Even if she also saw him as a competitor for her parents' attention.
Eventually things changed in her small world. R’wign was gone one day and even as young as she was the little girl felt the hole and sadness he left, even if she didn’t quite understand what happened. She did her best to consol those left the only way she knew how. Kisses and hugs and trying to be very, very good. Not long after R’wign left, Riaren left too. Though she missed Riaren and R'wign, the young girl always had a particularly strong connection to M'ta. So she is was still pretty content. She enjoyed going to play with the weyrlings and talking to the 'baby' dragons her daddy taught when she could go too. If he seemed to feel particularly oh so sad and upset she did her best to try and help where she could.
Then daddy got a new friend in the form of a rider with a dragon who’s mind was very pained and she wasn’t sure what to make of him. He seemed friendly enough but there was something behind his eyes that was unsetting to her, even as young as she was. Terilyn especially didn’t like her daddy’s new friend when it meant she had to start spending more time away from M’ta and with a nanny, and even some time with Erilena and Dmitri who were having emotional troubles of their own. It was a bit of a whirlwind to the little girl. Though thankfully Terilyn was stable enough herself that even if she didn’t understand these things she knew they could not last forever. When things got really bad the girl was more quiet and clingy then usual and spent hours mentally babbling to Behruth or some of the other friendly dragons who seemed to delight in indulging her. Though Daddy said she couldn’t talk to too many Behruth, Feyrianth, and a few select others were great company when she needed them.
Eventually daddy’s new friend left and wasn’t coming back. Terilyn knew because she felt Lucith’s death just as she had felt Checkoth’s. Though the death of any dragon was upsetting to her Lucith’s was less so. Probably because of how convoluted and wrong the male’s mind had felt to her. It wasn’t too long after that that Riaren came back to live with them. Terilyn was privately really happy about it though she made sure to act properly bratty. Riaren was something of a distraction from what was going on and certainly had always been a good playmate even if she thought he as something of a wimp sometimes.
3017-3022 Earthquake, Living with E’rro, Return to M’ta, War, Aftermath
After Riaren’s return life feel into a bit of a pattern and Terilyn was as always sensitive to her father’s moods. She did her best to temper things were she could but without being able to fully understand the reasons behind them, due to her youth, she was fighting something of a losing battle. For the most part the tragedies that affected the weyr when she was nothing but a baby and toddler effected the girl little besides when a dragon lost their life. Those were always times when she was effected quite emotionally due to her connection with most of them. Even if she was told not talk to them all she could hear them speak. Know their moods and even if she couldn’t understand all of what they were saying their mental chatter was something of a soothing type of white noise. If they were not speaking it almost felt too eerily silent for her tastes.
When the earthquake hit it was the first time where Terilyn could remember being so scared. Part of that however was the loss of life with the quake. The deaths of so many, especially the dragons, made her feel physically ill and she spent her time in the aftermath clinging to those few people she could trust. When they made the move to Burimyu it was like a new adventure for her. She was excited to have more to explore and do and there were dragons that she did not remember there to listen to. Life at the new weyr was interesting for the most part even if after a time her daddy started to get worse emotionally. There wasn’t much the little girl could do about it though she certainly tried. Sadly it wasn’t enough and in 3018 the brownrider felt it safer to let E’rro take her and Riaren to live with him. Terilyn wasn’t happy. Not at all. Though she liked Ismaroth well enough she wasn’t hugely fond of living away from M’ta and though E’rro was nice he was not her daddy. Riaren did better with the change then her and she privately was angry with her brother that he found it so easy to adjust.
Thankfully the spilt from M’ta didn’t last too long though it seemed far too long to Terilyn. She was more then happy to move back in with her father. The war had little effect on Terilyn besides the regrettable disappearance of some of the dragon mind voices she had grown accustomed too. She was too young to understand much about the war besides what emotional consequences it had on the people around her. Finally things started to change again though by this time she could understand it a bit better Terilyn only really cared about what effected her for the most part. Auntie Ruli moved in and her father seemed to get happier day by day. Riaren was still his typical almost detached self and some of her dragon friends moved away to live somewhere else. Furthermore she didn’t have to hide that she could talk to dragons anymore. That excited her more then anything else did.
It was bound to happen at some point really. Around the time she turned eight Terilyn began to take more notice of things she hadn’t before. Why didn’t she look like her father? Ria didn’t really either. Nor did Ria look like her. Why when other kids had a mother did she not? When she asked of course she was told. It didn’t really change much, the knowledge. She knew the why of those things now. It didn’t change her emotions any though. Riaren was still her brother, Ruliana was a decent replacement for a mother, and her father still was and always had been M’ta. Her real mother’s dragon had been a good friend of Behruth’s apparently and though M’ta didn’t know too much about her parents Terilyn figured that if she ever really wanted to know surely someone had that type of information.
Current
Currently Terilyn spends the majority of her time exploring and learning what every child should. She loves her family. She makes friends with the other weyrbrats, plays with her brother, causes trouble on a regular basis, and even sometimes gets to visit her daddy’s friends at the hold and other weyrs. Though at times she certainly causes more trouble then she means too it’s not like she’s trying to. Daddy always forgives her at least. Though how could he not? He’s the best daddy in the world.
