Darkness crept over the Weyr slowly but surely until the only lights present came from glows. With the darkness came quiet - not silence however, as the wherhandlers and their beasts roamed the Weyr during the night. Dragons could be heard breathing heavily on their respective ledges, slumber stealing them away for the evening.
It was during this time that Ivy stole away from the barracks - again. From the dark bags forming under her eyes it seemed this sneaking off into the night had become a regular thing for the eldest female Candidate. Usually she would have headed to check on Cainith and Cainsk, as they no doubt would just be waking and starting their 'day'. Tonight she had other plans though, as her route took her away from the Barracks and towards the Hatching Grounds.
Holding a glow in one hand she shielded most of its light with the other, not wanting anyone out and about at this hour to see who she was. She had no ill intentions of course, but she wanted to see the eggs without the other Candidates crowding around. Slipping into the entrance she headed for the Stands, not foolish enough to step on the Sands themselves with Nitrath sleeping there. She knew how protective the Gold was of her clutch and in no way wanted to invite the Gold's wrath upon her. So she climbed higher into the Stands until she was around the middle and then sat down, staring down at the eggs nestled on the Sands. True she couldn't make them out very well from where she sat in the dark, but just being in the same area as them was enough for her right now.
Idly she wondered to herself how long it would be until they were called to the hatching, and if perhaps this truly would be her time to shine... or just another bitter disappointment.
She sat like that for well over a candlemark, letting her mind wander and wonder - what would each egg hold? A Bronze? A Gold? Surely Greens and Blues... but how many? And would any be for her? Eyes began to droop as she sat there, and soon she shifted to lay down across the bench seats - all to get more comfortable. Head turned towards the Sands she could just barely make out the eggs and the massive sleeping form of the Gold. Slowly but surely her weariness got the better of her and she nodded off to sleep in the Stands.
