Humans:
Name: Samael
Age: 21 (Born December 19, 3001)
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Weyrfolk
Physical Appearance:
The first thing most people notice about Samael are his eyes... bright, clear blue irises surrounding clouded white pupils. Said eyes are set in a thin, sharp-featured, high-cheekboned face, and topped by a pair of narrow, expressive eyebrows. His hair is a chestnut-blonde, neck-length and covering his ears with loose curls, and often slightly disheveled due to his inability to use a mirror. He has a round, upturned nose and pouty lips over a square chin that usually juts out a bit defiantly. His skin is a bit pale, but healthy, and his overall shape is more undeveloped than frail. He stands at around 5'8" and 150 lbs.
Personality:
Samael used to be a quiet, but happy child, his disability causing social awkwardness but not preventing him from enjoying his life. That all changed when his sister was murdered, and he's hardened over the past turn into a bitter, angry young man. Around those of Selenitas, those he feels he can trust, he's more like his old self. He's cautious physically and socially, often not starting conversations, but being comfortable enough once he's involved in one. Being mostly blind has taught him to be careful where he steps, and he brings that caution to his relationships, taking measure of someone before trusting them with what lies within his heart.
Around Wastelanders, though, he forms a shell around himself socially, showing absolutely no trust and quick aggression... though not too much, as his sister's death showed him that Wastelanders are not afraid to kill those who stand in their way. So, he shows more passive aggression towards the hated Wastelanders, biding his time and hoping to find a way to strike back at them one day. There's one person, though, who he shows absolute trust towards, and that's his faithful canine Heimdall... when he and Heimdall are seperated, Samael is often reluctant to even move anywhere, usually waiting in one place until Heimdall returns to him, refusing to leave unless he's informed of danger nearby.
Samael's blindness makes conversations with him sometimes disconcerting to those he speaks to, since he can only see basic shapes, and so never makes eye contact, preferring instead to direct one ear or the other towards the other speaker, since his other senses are enhanced to make up for his poor eyesight. If they allow it, Samael also enjoys placing his hands on the faces of those he befriends, using his sensitive touch to determine what his companion's face is shaped like.
History:
3001 - 3014: Birth, Early Life
In turn 3001, in Blossom Hold, a pair of fraternal twins was born to silk weaver Tomell and his wife Serin: Samael and Tomerin. The pair, other than sex, were nearly identical, though Tomerin took after her father's sandy blonde hair, while Samael took more of his mother's chestnut blonde hair. There was another important difference between the two, though... the cloudiness that covered the irises of Samael's eyes. At first they hoped it was just a defect that would fade with age, but soon it became apparent it was permanent, and the baby boy's minimal reaction to visual stimuli made them realize that he was nearly blind.
As they grew, Tomerin and Samael were nearly inseperable. Even as babies, when one would leave the presence of the other, the one left behind would scream and cry until their sibling was returned. As they grew into children, they found that Samael could see, just with no detail... his congenital cataracts simply prevented him from seeing anything but general shapes. Tomerin was always there for her brother, though, helping him not only maneuver around without tripping or knocking into anything, but also making sure he knew he was just as worth affection and attention as someone with "normal" eyes, and though he never became outgoing, his sister did keep him from becoming completely socially defunct from his disability. While his sister soon took to training to become a tailor, Samael did what he could to help her, arranging her tools in a certain way and learning each of them by feel and weight, so he could still assist her despite his inability to perform such detail work himself.
3014 - 3015: Tomerin's Search, Move to Selenitas, Finding Heimdall
Finally, in turn 3014, amid word of a Weyr to the north being destroyed by Fort and the Selenitas River being poisoned, a group of Searchriders arrived at Blossom Hold. Welcomed by the Lord Holder as Selenitas riders always were, they had soon found one of their Candidates... the now 13-turn Tomerin. Preparing to return her to Selenitas Weyr, they were stopped by her pleas to take her brother with them, knowing he wouldn't be able to survive without her help. At first, they refused, knowing the near-blind boy would never be able to Impress and doubting his ability to contribute, but if Tomerin was good at anything, it was being charming, and soon the Selenitas Searchriders had relented, taking both Tomerin and Samael with them back to Selenitas Weyr.
Both Tomerin and Samael were excited to live in Selenitas Weyr, but soon a problem became apparent... with Tomerin a Candidate and Samael just weyrfolk, the two siblings could not be together all the time as they were used to, as Tomerin had to stay in the Candidate Barracks and attend lessons and obey the curfew of all Candidates, while Samael could not join her. Tomerin was at first willing to give up her Candidacy for her brother, but Samael refused to let his sister sacrifice being a dragonrider for him, and tried to survive as best he could on his own. It was rough going, however, Samael never having been alone since the day he was born, and injuries both physical (from having no one to help him avoid obstacles) and emotional began to add up. Just as he thought all hope was lost, he suddenly made a couple friends: Greenrider Erilena and her dragon Feyrianth. Under the belief that "those born differently should stick together", the weyrhealer and her four-winged bondmate assisted Samael when they could, and though it wasn't perfect, Samael figured this was his chance to be independent as he could be.
Things were soon to change again for Samael, though, for the better. A couple months after befriending Erilena and Feyrianth, Samael stumbled across a canine bitch of one of the weyrfolk birthing a litter of puppies. Reaching down among the puppies as they crawled and tumbled around their mother's teats, Samael suddenly felt a strong sensation, and picked up the squirming bundle of fur he had his hands on, and at that point he knew he had just met the best friend he'd ever have. Naming the pup Heimdall, the two were inseperable from the point he was weaned from his mother, and the pup (the Terran equivalent to a Brazilian Mastiff) soon became protective of it's disabled master, learning of his inadequacies and helping to warn him of danger with a bark, or nuzzling him away from hazards with a bump of his muzzle. The two learned each other's moods and thoughts, and soon the two acted nearly as one.
3015 - 3016: New Life, Wasteland Clutch Culling, Death of Tomerin
Samael and Heimdall were happy, and with the help of Heimdall, Samael began to earn his keep helping out in the stables, mucking out stalls and occassionally grooming the runners. Even after the horrors of the Wasteland assault of Selenitas, Samael kept his wits about him, and soon everything seemed to settle down in a kind of normalcy. All that changed, however, in turn 3015, when Gold Millieth had a clutch... a clutch his sister would Stand for. Though they were not as close as they were growing up, due to Candidate training keeping the siblings apart, Samael could still feel his sister's excitement even from his place in the stands, sitting hear his friend Feyrianth while her bonded acted as healer for the hatching in case of a mauling.
As the hatching unfolded, Feyrianth mindspeaking all the details to Samael so he wouldn't miss any of it due to his disability, Samael was a bit concerned to hear of the mutated hatchlings, but nodded knowingly as the green Lipeth, with her stubby tail, Impressed to his sister. Leave it to Tomerin to Impress a disabled dragon, thought Samael. It must have known Tomerin was well-versed in helping someone disabled, and so went right to her. He even heard of one of the hatchlings having congenital cataracts like him.
Then, in the joy and excitement, everything suddenly went wrong. Just before it happened, he felt Heimdall tense, and then it was chaos. The keening of dying hatchlings and the roars of enraged dragons filled the air, and then, like a knife to his heart, Samael heard his sister's surpised cry cut off in a gurgle as Z'ves slit her throat. Crying out in agony, as if he felt the blade himself, he was jostled and eventually herded from the stands as battles broke out and people retreated from the area in a panic, Heimdall staying with him and keeping him on his feet.
Samael changed that day... the hole left in his heart by his sister's murder slowly filling with hatred and anger at Wasteland. Not even a turn later, Samael heard he would be denied even vengeance as Z'ves died, apparently passing in his sleep... though the dragonrider's otherwise good health made Samael suspect another of the man's enemies had merely gotten to him before Samael. Though Samael enjoyed hearing of his demise, he wished it could have been him to deliver the killing blow. Afterward, he simply bode his time, knowing he had little chance by himself against the Wasteland invaders, but doing what he could to find allies in his secret battle to free Selenitas from the plague of Wasteland, and return things to what they once were... though his sister would always be gone.
3016 - 3017: Impressing Freyr, Meeting Vellani, Selenitas Earthquake
Things slightly improved in mid-3017, when Samael's attendance to gold flit Rose's clutch in order to deliver a clutching bowl he had made for the event resulted in his Impression of the bronze firelizard Freyr. Thanks to Freyr, Samael's life changed even more severely due to their link allowing Samael to see the world with clear eyes for the first time, though only through still images.
Another meeting had occurred directly before that hatching, however, when Samael ended up meeting the Candidate Vellani while they were both in the Infirmary. Samael, never having had a girl other than his sister treat him so nicely, instantly developed a crush on the attractive blonde Candidate girl, though she herself only saw him as a friend.
Just as things were going well, suddenly everything was shaken up... quite literally. The Selenitas Earthquake destroyed the Weyr, and luckily Samael and his companions made it out in one piece, though with the damage to the Weyr, riders from another Weyr, a Weyr composed of those who had escaped the Wasteland takeover, came and apparently decided to combine the Weyrs, moving Samael and everyone to the hidden Weyr of Burimyu, which was soon renamed New Selenitas. Being simple weyrfolk, Samael's involvement in the move was minimal, though he was glad to hear many more Wastelanders were slain in the earthquake, and no longer had power over the Weyr as a whole.
3017 - 3018: New Selenitas Weyr, Friends Lost, Friends Gained,
Settling in the new Weyr was not difficult for Samael, who with the combined help of both Heimdall and Freyr, adapted to the new twists and turns of his room and the halls quickly enough. Soon after the move, however, Millieth's clutch (which had been luckily undamaged and transferred to the new Weyr) hatched, and Vellani Impressed a green named Gweneveth. Samael was ecstatically happy for the girl he pined for, but that joy soon turned sour as Vellani immediately began ignoring him in favor of a bluerider named Er'ani, who swooped in to begin flirting with her the moment she Impressed.
After that, the blind weyrfolk boy became terribly depressed, and sequestered himself in his room for months, only emerging to perform his duties and eat. His personal hygiene fell to the wayside, and he had no contact with anyone outside Heimdall and Freyr. Finally, however, a chance meeting with a greenrider named Ruliana and her boisterous new puppy Azrain pulled Samael from his shell, and he finally emerged out of his self-imposed exile to occasionally have dinner with his newfound friend.
Beyond a hatching in mid-3018, which was uneventful save for an incident involving a foolhardy wherhandler and the unsettled goldrider who's dragon laid the clutch, the remainder of the Turn passed with little incident for Samael and his two ever-present companions.
3018 - 3023: The Dragon War, Summit
Samael's life had nothing much worth noting for the next four Turns... though the Dragon War occurred in the North, Samael, being a simple weyrfolk, had no input or interest in it, as his only dragonriding friend, Ruliana, did not fight in the War. The thought of dragonriders fighting other dragonriders disturbed Samael, so even though Ruliana heard stories of the War from her other friends, Samael always tried to change the subject if she tried to bring it up.
Things changed, however, in 3020, when the Summit was held after the War was completed. Again, Samael's life was not affected very much... his only dragonriding friend, Ruliana, was allowed to stay in Selenitas, and most of the weyrfolk Samael knew had no desire to leave Selenitas, and so stayed as Inverness Weyr was mostly populated by Northern drudges and weyrfolk.
Finally, the first Turn of 3023 is dawning, and Samael waits to see if his life will continue as dull as always, or if something might shake things up a little.

Appearance: Lean and tall, strong and cut, this young fellow strikes an impressive profile. Throw his reddish bronze coloring in on top of all that, and he is completely drool-worthy! But the smooth, slick handsome coloring is not complete, no. Right where the flitter can parade it around and show it to every little lady he meets, he has a discolored spot that spans over the front of both shoulders and that area of his chest. If he sits down and places his front legs together just so, the very undeniably red blotch on his chest becomes a very recognizable and distinguished shape - that of a bright red heart.
He tends to carry himself with an enviable grace, a high arch to his neck and a proud catch to his step. He obviously knows he's a looker, and is not afraid to play it up. It does not matter if there are any onlookers, for it would not do at all to be surprised by company and be seen in a slouch! Surprisingly, he's not a stickler for being oiled or bathed, so while he may not have that freshly-oiled sheen all the time, he wears even a day's hard work handsomely.
Personality: Slick, he always knows just what to 'say' to any creature he comes across, making them all feel empowered just by his presence. He makes friends easily and keeps them even more easily. Even other bronzes can get a positive word from this fellow, even if it is a veiled comment ... like how they could better hold themselves. He is a bit of a know it all, though it's hard to realize that and even harder to pin it on him. Because he's just so. Sharding. Nice.
That aside, he is one hundred percent a lady's man. If there is a lady in the area, he has to wow, he has to impress. And there is no such thing as loyalty in his mind. He would collect a harem if he could! He is the stuff in the strut, he will court any lovely little lady, whether they are Flitter or Mandyr (or both?) Encountering more than one at a time doesn't phase him a bit, he will court both at once! Neither can he be cornered by two loves meeting up at the same time. He acts as if it is perfectly natural for him to have many, many lovely ladies at his beck and call. He will never truly understand that most females ... don't like to share.
