Tekisith, wake up, I'mny ordered, standing at the edge of the weyrledge. It was time for the blue to ferry His down to the Weyrling Barracks so he could awaken his class. The blue, however, wasn't fond of this plan. He would much rather stay sprawled out on his weyrledge, soaking up the beginning of the sunrise and enjoying the benefits of sleep. You know, the not having to think or move or barely even breathe. But I'mny wasn't going to let that happen. Now, he added in a rather threatening tone.
Tekisith just grumbled. You don't really need to teach them. They can just figure it out on their own. In his opinion, the weyrlings were just leeches. The little babies could learn all this stuff by themselves and if they didn't figure it out, well, then they weren't smart enough to be any good to the weyr anyway. Be nice, we need all of them, I'mny scolded, walking over to nudge his dragon a little forcibly with the toe of his riding boot. The blue just opened a single eye, glaring quite impressively at His. I Chose you, not them, he complained, letting a lid recover his eye.
Yeah, yeah, I've heard. Come on. It would be inappropriate for me to be late. It was like this every morning so I'mny had learned long ago to wake up just a tad bit earlier so that he wasn't late because he was having to convince his grumpy dragon to take him down to do his duties. You should be nicer to me, Tekisith decided, opening up both of his eyes. We're past our weyrling turns, we don't need to wake up this early. I'mny ignored him, knowing that he had already won the battle. Once the blue's eyes were both opened, it meant that he was awake and ready to fly.
Tekisith didn't like His' lack of reply, but he didn't comment on it. The sooner he made it to his feet and got His down to the barracks, the sooner he could fly back and enjoy the sun. Come on, he ordered, finding his feet. After you're done with the leeches, we're going flying. I'mny just laughed, hopping up on his dragon and bracing himself for the take-off. They were always a bit rough this early in the morning. It was Tekisith's way of expressing his distaste for the activity. Sometimes the bluerider scolded him for it, but he didn't have the energy today. He was going to be doing too much instructing on take-offs to start now with his own dragon.
Tekisith took that as a small victory, spiraling down quickly to the barracks and only waiting the smallest amount possible before taking off again. He was ready to get back up to the ledge. He had sunning to do. All in all, the little excursion lasted only about a third of what it took to get the blue ready to take it. But Tekisith didn't realize that. All he knew that he was rudely awakened and it happened almost every morning and he didn't like it. He didn't like those dumb little ones.
With a rumble to express his distaste, he touched back down on his ledge. It took him another few moments to curl back up, wrapping his tail around his body until it almost touched his muzzle. Sadly, though, he couldn't convince his body to go back to sleep. The sun felt nice, but he was awake. Darn those little brats.

//Mine, there are annoying creatures here waking me up.//
The petulant tone of Tanith's mental voice alerted Aliscia to something going on, but that was not proper motivation to stir the greenrider from the comfort of her furs. After her bath the previous night, the woman had dropped nude into her bed, too exhausted to bother getting dressed after drying off. She did not have to get up for several more candlemarks, so she was loathe to stir, though she did touch on her green's mind to see what was bothering the snappish dragon. She was sure it was not that the green was close to Rising--thank goodness for that!--so she was mildly bewildered until the dragon flashed her an image of the blue and his rider on the nearby ledge.
Stop, Tanny. They have every right to be up and about early. I told you not to go to sleep early last night. You're /always/ up early when you sleep early... her rider groused right back, snuggling down into the furs and ignoring her dragon's grumblings. Tanith was not happy unless she something to complain about or someone to fight with, so ignoring her just discouraged the grumblings before she really got going. There was a sudden, palpable feeling of delight as the annoyances left, and Aliscia rolled her eyes. Something told her it would be a long day, and starting it early was not a comforting though.
//We should visit Hepaticath and Hers today. Hers will need advice// the green continued on an entirely separate vein, which annoyed her rider to no end. Tanith seemed to excel at irking her rider with constant hopping of subjects, especially when Aliscia was in such a sour sort of mood to start with. //You need a mate, Mine... a nice one that will keep you happy and not let you get proddy.// Tanith's tone was entirely too gleeful for such an early morning, especially when Aliscia was not in the mood to tolerate such talk, not with the memory of what Tanith's last Flight had been like.
Sensing her rider's dislike and distress over the idea, the green fell silent, though she was miffed by Aliscia's firm response to the negative of the idea. Well, Tanith knew what was best for Hers, so she would do as she saw fit, even if the greenrider fought her on that issue.
Suddenly, the green lifted her scarred head and growled loudly as a large shadow passed over her, blocking her access to the rising sun. She spied the blue landing back on his ledge again, sans rider, and it annoyed her beyond belief. He was too close for comfort, even if he was all the way over on his own ledge. Seeing as her rider was discontented somehow and Tanith herself felt to be in a bad mood now, the green decided that removing such a pain would be best. She did not want him within a queenlength of her at the moment. //I suppose it is impossible for you to find a less inconvenient place to sun for now, is it? You are hampering my enjoyment of rest and sun.// she impolitely informed the blue on the next ledge over.

Tekisth was minding his own business, enjoying his own little section of time when he heard a scolding. Wait, only His was allowed to scold him and the voice was way to feminine to be his rider's voice. Even though the tone of grumpiness was oddly similar. Good morning to you as well, he grumbled, debating whether or not her wanted to be rude or ignore the stupid green. The challenge in her tone, however, was too much for him to completely ignore.
I'm on my ledge and you're on yours. Unless you have a real complaint, or a compliment, those are always nice, leave me alone. I'm not stealing your sun or your rest, he continued, letting his tone drift to a snappy aloofness. He was not in the mood to deal with another grumpy being this morning. His waking him up was bad enough. Now he had an irritable green accusing him of doing something that was impossible due to the positions that both of them were in. He couldn't steal her sun when he was lying next to her on a separate ledge. And he didn't know how to steal her rest without touching her or talking to her. He had a feeling that she was just in the mood for a fight. Tekisith was great for that, but he was tired.
However, he'd already retaliated, so he figured that he might as well wake up enough to have a proper fight. Darn His for having to wake up so early, now he got to deal with an irritable green. It would be fine, though, now he had someone to take his own frustration out on. Maybe this would work out just fine after all.

//It is morning, but there is nothing 'good' about it. I was rudely awakened by all of the activity on /your/ ledge, and Mine is not in a happy mood.// Tanith informed the errant blue, arching her neck to eye him distastefully from the warm comfort of her ledge. His rudeness was not surprising, and it only served to fuel the green's desire to strike him across the face, the overgrown idiot wherry. She did not get to her feet, though, only moving her head and neck to glare up and over at him. As if she would compliment him!
Aliscia caught a brief impression of the thread of Tanith's thoughts, and the woman groaned, rolling onto her stomach and burying her head beneath her pillow, pulling the furs up over her head as well to complete the futile gesture of trying to avoid the rapidly-approaching conflict. She did not want to deal with this right now, not with how tired she was and how cranky Tanith was rapidly becoming. Let the blue deal with it himself; she was having no part of it unless his rider raised a ruckus.
As if I would compliment a male as small and pathetic as you. You would not be the slightest challenge in a fight, and only males who can hold their own are worthy of compliments.// the green added further, slightly unfurling her broad wings and tossing her head, coming into full and aggressive wakefulness. //All of the activity on your ledge and all of Yours' fussing has awakened me and Mine, and you flying overhead disturbed my sunning. Find somewhere closer to Yours to be a pain.// Truth be told, Tanith would rather he stayed so she could get a few swats in at him. Hers had not let her take a chomp at the other blue to anger her just the other day, so this little weakling would have to suffice for venting her aggression.

Tekisith snorted. And you think that I wished to be awakened this morning? I was in the process of going back to sleep when you rudely decided to put in your two cents. If you have an issue with the early morning wake-up call, take it up with Mine because it surely wasn't my doing. He had no issue putting His on the chopping list for the irritable green, it was his fault for making him get up so early. Wait, maybe he could pan some of the blame on the little leeches. And for that matter, Mine wouldn't have needed to get up if it weren't for the little dragons and their bondeds. You should talk to them about it. Mine was simply doing his duty.
Truth be told, Tekisith couldn't have gone back to bed whether or not the green had interrupted him. He just needed someone to blame it on besides His at the moment. The little leeches were getting enough blame as it was. The green made a perfect target for the blame and he was happily going to pan it off on her. It doesn't matter how good I'd be in a fight. I'm agile enough, though, that I could avoid any hits directed at me. I don't need to be big. You're not that large yourself, are you saying that you're unworthy of compliments? He was trying not to be too harsh, but it was so easy. She left so many openings. And due to his small stature, he was very quick and agile in the sky. It wouldn't matter if a big bronze was trying to crush him, he could just dodge the blows.
At her suggestion that he rejoin His, Tekisith rumbled with a bit of laughter. Then I'd have to fly over you again and that would disrupt your sun. And why would I want to be anywhere near those little ones? They just bug me, the blue reasoned. It would make no sense for him to leave now if her complaint was that him flying blocked her sunlight and the last thing that he wanted to do was sit next to His and somehow end up being used as a teaching prop. No, that wouldn't work. He had too much dignity for that.

The blue's whining and off-putting of blame was nothing short of irritating. Tanith got to her feet and shook herself to loosen up sleep-stiffened muscles, a few old scars offering up complaints at the movement. Ignoring those tugs of discomfort, she stretched out her legs one by one, giving the blue on the neighboring ledge a disdainful look. //And I was about to go back to sleep when you flew over and disturbed my sleep. It seems I am avenged, then, in making you stay awake. You should not blame the poor weyrlings. It is not their fault that Yours is such a poor teacher that they need him constantly.// Tanith knew it was a low blow to insult His, but she felt herself justified in it. He had disturbed her peace, after all.
At Tekisith's comment, Tanith let out a low rumble of amusement. Agile enough to dodge her?! She doubted it. The comment about her size smarted little, if at all. She enjoyed being small. It made the other dragons underestimate her, which often gave her quite the advantage in fights. //My size lends me an advantage, and I could still fly circles around you if I wished. My build compensates for my lack of stature. You, however, are just puny.// Tanith had to allow that the blue was still a decent bit bigger than her, but she was still the more capable flier, at least in her overconfident mind. She had much more aerial experience, even if the pathetic blue was older. She was of fine Benden upbringing, after all.
She growled lowly at him, debating hopping over to his weyrledge to smack him about to teach him a lesson. What a sharding idiot. She would deal with that minor inconvenience easily if it meant getting rid of him. //It would disrupt my sun but rid me of you for the remainder of the morning, which suits me much better than having to see you. If you were the least bit attractive, it would be at least slightly more tolerable.// she said rather nastily, flaring out her broad wings and giving them an experimental flap before settling down on her belly again, sprawling out to maximize the amount of area exposed to the increasing sunlight.

Tekisith snorted. His was a great teacher; it wasn’t his fault that the little leeches were dimglows. Mine is a very good teacher. The dimglow little brats are just bad learners. They have too much to learn and they too thick to learn it by themselves. He was surprised that His could even put up with such idiocy. He was barely able to put up with one of them and she’d only been irritating him for a short while. He couldn’t imagine putting up with it every day.
Her fly circles around him? That was a joke. He was very agile and she wasn’t exactly the slimmest green. There was no way that she could outfly him. You wish that you could fly circles around me. Mine and I train and train hard. If he’s to teach, we need to be the best. You can’t teach what you haven’t achieved. And on top of all of that, if you haven’t noticed, I’m a good bit larger than you. So you can’t even begin to try and call me puny. She was a silly green. He hoped that she was proddy so she at least had excuse for her poor behavior. He’d done nothing to warrant her irritability being focused on him. Oh well, he was more than equipped to put up with it though.
Tekisith lifted his head to look at her, an emotion rolling through him that clearly spoke that he would have rolled his eyes if at all possible. I have done nothing since flying above you to draw your attention. If you were really that bothered by my mere presence, you’d ignore me and then you wouldn’t even have to have your sun blocked by me flying away. It was you who felt the need to engage in a fight with me. This green just couldn’t leave well enough alone. It wasn’t his fault that she was in such a foul mood.

//If he is such a brilliant teacher, then why is he up so early? The little weyrlings will not stir for quite a time yet.// Tanith felt mildly insulted by his overview of the weyrlings, being that she was fond--and not in a bullying way--of one or two. They were not dimglows by any means, though this blue appeared to be one to the extreme. Was he that thickheaded so as not to see the truth? Pity. Ah well, it just gave her more to prod him about.
The insult to her abilities had the green back on her feet and growling again, flaring out her wings as she glared over at the other dragon. She realized belatedly that she had roused Hers from a light doze, but insult took precedence over Hers' comfort at the moment. How dare he imply that she was incapable! //I am Benden-raised, you pathetic excuse for an overgrown wherry. Simpering, soft wreck of a Selenitas-born hatchling.... I was raised to fly and to fight, and you stand no chance!// she raged quietly, casting a biased eye over his less-than-impressive form. He had no appreciable store of muscles, and she was willing to wager he was only mildly agile in the air. //I have skill and muscle to compensate, while you have nothing. You do no teaching. All you do is lounge about like an overfed wher while Yours pretends to do a job. Pathetic excuse for a fighting dragon, you are. Pathetic.//
Roused by her dragon's ire, Aliscia groaned and slipped into a light tunic and pants, putting sandals on her feet before wandering out onto the ledge, her hair lightly tussled by sleep. "Tanith, can't you just leave it alone?!" she grumbled, rubbing a hand across her eyes as she went to her dragon's head to try to soothe the insulted beast. She gave the blue the briefest of glances and then just shook her head. Sharding idiot males. Didn't they know to just ignore Tanith's warmongering?
Tanith would not be soothed, and though she did bump her nose lightly against Hers in greeting, her full attention could not be swayed from the useless lump of dragonflesh on the other weyrledge. //I am not ignoring you now that you have insulted me. You started this by disturbing my rest, and I will finish it one way or another. Now, move before I make you.//
Aliscia just sighed and put a hand over her face. It was too sharding early to deal with this right now! Tanith at her most infuriatingly intractable was a headache at best and an absolute nightmare at her very worst. The greenrider guessed this would end up somewhere in between the two extremes, although operating nearer the 'headache' end of the spectrum. The fiesty green just was not going to budge.

He goes to wake them up. He makes them start early. He thinks that if he wakes them up early and tells them things over and over again, maybe they’ll begin to understand. They need all the help and direction they can get, Tekisith responded condescendingly. His was great, but the little ones needed a lot of help. He had to wake them up early and teach and teach and teach. Tekisith didn’t like it, but His said it was necessary. It just meant that His would have to indulge him when he wasn’t with the weyrlings to make up it up to him.
Oh shards, a green on a rampage. If he was smart, he’d compliment her on her abilities and then fly off. There was nothing more dangerous than a green that was angry. But that wasn’t Tekisith. He wasn’t that smart. Benden-raised, now I’m scared. Sit down and enjoy the sun. Dragons don’t fight other dragons here at Selenitas. I am very able in the skies, fighting Thread and Mine and I fly a lot, practicing. I’m fit and agile and I feel no need to prove it to you. You’re an over competitive conceited green who has a temper issue. Control yourself. His tone wasn’t condescending, simply instructive. It was like a healer trying to talk a woman from taking the jump between. Okay…maybe not quite like that…a little bit ruder than that. But it was as close as the blue was going to get.
He put his head back down, choosing to ignore the green now that Hers was there to comfort her. Hopefully the woman would be able to talk some sense into the idiotic green and then he would be able to get some sleep. All he needed was a enraged green coming over and trying to maul him. That would mean he would actually have to jump off the ledge and avoid her. Sharding greens.
