That smirk was getting rather annoying, grating on Beka's nerves in the most complete sense of the phrase. He really was the most aggravating person Beka had ever met, not that she'd met many people but still! Keliris seemed to have devoted his life to finding the ways to annoy people most, to drive them insane, or just plain annoy them until they left him alone. Going by what she knew of him over their brief meeting, Beka was pretty sure the latter was the more correct term to use. Beka had never really learnt to read any mood other than the varying degrees of fear and anger, that was all she'd been exposed to as a child, and that had been all she'd learnt. When to duck, how to dodge, how to convince her aching body to take one more step. Unfortunately, it had never taught her to keep her mouth shut.
"I like the background, yes. However, you're wrong about Impressing, I want more than anything for a dragon to choose me, to have someone care for me like Anai does, to feel protected, and finally have someone believe I can be worth something. I don't want to Stand there, hoping, believing, only to have every dragon turn away for someone better." There was a pause as Beka spoke, though she showed none of the un easiness she felt, he'd read her so well, did she not hide her feelings as effectively as she'd like? That was something she should have expected, since when did she have the chance to appear calm when excited? When had she been able to practice an emotionless mask?
"And you know, it's not very nice to compare someone to a festering wound, did anyone ever tell you that?" The comment was off handed, obviously meant as a joke, or a comment to lighten the mood at least.
There was no reason she couldn't face her fear of people, not really. She had Lura, and... In a way, she had I'ir, and she had Liralla. The little girl was probably just as important to Beka as Anai was, since the older girl had adopted the babe as her little sister, in a way. She'd do anything for the child and anyone that upset her was in for at least a severe talking to. Even so, she coudn't quite talk to anyone else, no one was more surprised than she the amount she'd told Keliris, he wasn't a friend, he wasn't family, he was just someone she found she had something in common with. Whether that was simillar feelings to the main population of Pern, or liking flitters better than people, it didn't matter. He'd given advice, though Beka doubted he ever listened to the advice he gave.
"You aren't a very social person, are you? Why don't you do the same? Try and step out of your comfort zone. It's not really right to give advice you wouldn't take." Beka's words were thoughtful, she wasn't intending to make him uncomfortable, or put him on the spot. It was merely a thought that had occured to her, purely out of the blue, what ever that expression meant. Personally, no thought of Beka's had ever dropped out of the sky and rapped her on the head until she questioned it. Sighing slightly, she turned her attention to his comment about Anai behaving like a Weyrbrat, which brought a smile to her lips.
"I don't know why she's chewing on your hair, she's never done that before. She must like you. Liralla chews on things alot, but Lura says she's teething. I have to admit I don't know much about the habits of Weyrbrats." The comment was spoken ith a laugh as Anai seemed to examin the damage she'd done to his hair beofre placing it delicately over his forehead, careless of whether it was wet from being chewed on or not. Before taking another clump in her talons and chewing the ends softly.
