For a dog so avowed to following him EVERYWHERE, the only way Kelinale had found that would get Cleric clean was actually bathing with her. If in the pool with him, she wouldn’t struggled, but if he was outside of it, there was always a fight that wound up with both of them soaked. Usually the dog was pretty good about self maintaining, only requiring a bath once every now and again, but this time she had rolled in something. Since the candidate couldn’t find the source of the foul smell, he couldn’t spot clean and so, a full bath was in order.
Most candidates, Kelinale had observed, preferred to bath either early in the morning or late at night. He happened to be the oddity that enjoyed a mid-day soak in the privacy of the often deserted room during this time. Being alone afforded him privacy (not that he was exactly modest), and he could take as long as he wanted. Especially with Cleric, he could really focus on getting her clean before he cleaned himself. The dog relaxed, panting as he worked sweetsand into her fur. She liked being scrubbed like this, despite her distaste in being bathed. Once covered in a good lather, he coaxed her into a deeper part of the pool and rubbed her down again to rinse water through her coat.
Cleric shook herself, spraying water everywhere, and climbed out of the pool, shaking herself off again. She then sat down and proceeded to lick herself “clean”, pick tongue flicking out over her shoulder. Her coat dripped water onto Kelinale’s clothes and he tried to pull them out from under her, leaning over the side. Why she always insisted upon sitting on his clothes, he knew not. Only that he was wet, a bit chilly, and really wanted to finish up and dress. When Cleric heard someone approach the candidate communal bathing room, she stood up , a shirt flying out from one of her hind paws, and Kelinale flailing backward into the water, submerging suddenly. Waves washed over the side. Great, now the rest of his clothes were going to be soaked and he’d have to find a way to do something about the now soaked floor.

Alcherion had been working in the stables all morning as per candidate chore rotation dictated and was not in a happy mood. In fact he'd have preferred almost any other job on the chore list, aside from checking glows and a few other chores he felt beneath him. The candidate lodging was typically deserted this time of day and he decided he might as well take advantage to wash the stench of manure and animals from his body. He ducked into his room long enough to peel a sweat soaked shirt from his body and plop it on the floor next to his chest. The pants came off next and soon there was a pile of damp, dirty, smelly clothes in a little pile. He then got out a pair of clean clothes, careful not to let them touch anything but his hands.
Not wanting to dirty anything else for the sake of propriety he takes his clean clothes and walks toward the bathing area. A splash alerts him of someone there and he pauses. Then with a shrug he saunters in to see who's there, not caring about his current lack of clothes. He stops when he sees his room mate and that filthy annoying animal of his.
He sets his clothes on the stand for the towels, careful not to slip on the wet floor, and walks to the edge of the pool and waits for Kelinale to come back up. With his hands on his hips his muscled arms seemed to bunch. Then he looks down at the younger man and says, "All you needed to do was ask. I'd have helped you drown." He glances at the dog and back at Kelinale. "By the way, if that dirty mutt keeps sleeping on my bed you're going to find him missing one day." He gives Kelinale a mean smirk and looking down at the man with narrowed eyes continues, "By the way, its time for my bath so you can scoot out now."

If the bottom hadn’t been so slick with freshly rinsed sand, he’d have been fine. Perfectly able to save himself the fall into the water. With a gasp, Kelinale surfaced. “No, I’m quite able to do it myse-” he began, but he stopped short. Did this guy actually just call Cleric a dirty mutt?! Not only that, but he had just made a threat to her life!! It took a second for him to register, a glare coming form his face as he stood up to his full height (which, compared to Alcherion, wasn’t much).
“For starters, she is purebred.” He emphasized her gender and status. “Her father happens to be one of the best dogs from the Fort kennels.” Perhaps it wasn’t the best idea to mention that his dog was northern-bred, or to imply that he was either, but at the moment he didn’t care. Insulting Cleric for him, was probably akin to insulting someone’s dragon. Or perhaps insulting the best stallion in a stable whilst riding an obviously inferior beast. “And if you are so keen on bathing, you can either wait for me to finish, or find another pool.”
With brusque motions, Kelinale turned his back to Alcherion and continued his bathing, rubbing sweetsand into his hair, while Cleric watched the larger candidate warily. She didn’t like it when her person was angry, especially when it was obvious who it was that he was angry with. She had stopped her licking to stare at Alcherion. A growl ready in her throat if he decided to take advantage of her person’s back being turned. This was a contest of alphas, and while she was no leader, she would still defend him. She was on guard, ready…waiting. Hoping that this other would just leave. She really didn’t want to fight.

Normally, Alcherion would have found other means to deal with all this unpleasantness. Unfortunately the man turning his back on him as if he was insignificant touched a nerve. And so, as the man turned to wash his hair Alcherion reached down and grabbed his roommate by the arms and none too gently hoisted him from the water with the intent to toss him out by brute strength. Alcherion might have completed the maneuver if it weren't for a threatening growl. With his concentration diverted slightly he lost his footing on the wet stone and slid.
He twisted, barely turned to allow the brunt of the impact hit both his and Kelinale's side. Kelinale's body was the closest to his dog and Alcherion was wasted no time to attempt to make sure the Kelinale's body was a meat shield for what was sure to come and slid into water up to his waist while wresting Kelinale from behind.

Kelinale hadn’t had enough frame of mind to react when he was lifted form the pool and then suddenly hitting the ground. He could hear Cleric growling and barking; he could she her bare teeth and raised hackles; but he had lost the air in his lungs and couldn’t muster the command to tell her down. Being so slick and wet gave Kelinale and advantage, but not enough of one. He could feel Alcherion’s grip slipping on his arms and he wriggled and thrashed, kicking backwards as best he could. When one of his arms broke free, he twisted around swinging for anything near the face.
He felt his fist connect with something hard, pushing all the force he could behind the knuckles of his right hand. With that blow complete, Kelinale found his footing and swung out with his left fist. How dare he! How dare he insult Cleric, and threaten her life! She was the only family he had since he’d been from the Harper Hall! She was the only friend he had since he’d been sent out on his first assignment!
Cleric lunged for Alcherion, jaws wide, aiming for anything she could grab on the man. He had attacked her person and that was unforgivable! She scrambled up the little stone steps of the pool, paws slipping in puddles and slick sand. This was an alpha battle, after all, so instinct fought to let them fight it out. Her devotion to Kelinale was winning, however, and her ears were down with her tail held dominantly high. There would be blood somewhere, and it wouldn’t be hers or her person’s blood.

Alcherion continued to grapple with Kelinale but could feel his hold slipping. The man soon broke free and swung on Alcherion with such a fast turn that his attempt to move his head was futile. The punch would have landed against Alcherion's forehead with little damage but after moving the fist lined right up for eye. Growling in pain and anger Alcherion let go of Kelinale so he could put his full weight behind the punch that connected with Kelinale's jaw.
The growling dog making a slippery dash for him was the next on his list. He grabbed the dog, risking a bite of his forearm and smacked it. While he didn't particularly want to kill the animal he wanted to give it a clear message to back off and pushed the animal away. Hoping that Kelinale wouldn't recover in time, he attempted to drag the man back into water so he could use his height and strength to his advantage.

The contact with his jaw was painful and the boy stumbled back a bit, splashing water around. He had stepped into the pool, so he was still close enough to Alcherion to not have to worry about getting too far away. He took a minute to collect himself, probing his teeth with his tongue real quick to make sure he hadn’t lost any. One felt loose, but there were no holes…yet. It would bruise quite beautifully, but he wasn’t about to think about it right now. The adrenaline in his system was pumping and he shook off the pain. Now he didn’t even care to call off Cleric.
The dog felt flesh and it wasn’t the flesh of her person. Her teeth sank into Alcherion’s arm with a grip only a canine jaw could muster. The blow to her head, however, loosened her maw just enough to make her teeth slip. The muscle would probably tear a bit, but it would otherwise be fine if Alcherion was careful enough. She growled deep in her chest, letting go to gather herself for another plunge. Splashing out of the water of the pool to get a good enough footing to put her whole weight behind her next attempt.
It was in the span of time that Cleric backed off that Kelinale dove. “Don’t hit my dog!” he screamed, hands reaching forward, one in a fist. Oh, he could take a beating, Alcherion could break his bones for all he cared at the moment if it spared the canine, but NO ONE was going to strike Cleric and get away with it. He would beat Alcherion bloody for hitting Cleric if it was the last thing he did!

Alcherion's arm bled freely but he could move it. The puncture wounds would heal and in the meantime he had bigger problems. Good news, the water slowed down forward movement. The bad? Alcherion was in a near rage from having been bitten and getting punched in the eye. It was almost too easy for him to lift his leg high enough out of the water to send a strong roundhouse kick into Kelinale's shoulders. The blow knocked the poor man sides ways and Alcherion took advantage of his vulnerable state to reach out and wrap a large hand around Kelinale's throat and put his weight down. Forcing the man's face into and hopefully under the water.....

No, no, no, no, NO!! He hadn’t accounted for the water and in quick succession not only did he lose the wind form his lungs, he felt himself being forced under the water. He struggled to get a good breath but failed, succeeding only in a mouthful of water that quickly went down the wrong side. He flailed, grabbing at the hand on his throat, kicking at the body holding him down, trying desperately to force a foot into Alcherion’s abdomen to push him off. It couldn’t end like this! It simply couldn’t! All because this one guy had been so pushy about a bath. Why couldn’t he have just waited? And now, the thought crossed Kelinale’s mind as he struggled for his life, if anyone would save him.
Cleric growled as lunged for Alcherion’s back, trying her best to tear him apart. He was killing her person! She couldn’t live without him! She could lose him! She would kill the offender, she would tear him to bits and chew his bones! She growled and barked, tail held high as she gave it her all. One hand reached up and she bit at it, the candidate eventually letting go of Kelinale. The smaller man struggled in the water still, thinking that he was still being held down. If only he could get a hold of the side, he could pull himself up…

Weight on his back alerted Alcherion to the dog and as he tried to swat it away with his free hand it got bit. With a yowl and much cursing he let go of Kelinale and reached around for the dog that was his back with a vice grip. His movements carried him away from Kelinale, giving the man space if he could find his footing.
He flailed and eventually fell backwards into the pool in an attempt to dislodge the dog. With both of them under the water he felt the dog's grasp loosen and he did the same. As the dog made to swim away he tried to find his footing and stand back up...
The blood from his arm and hand mixed with the water, creating a reddish brown cloud in the water around it.
