A young woman had been sweeping the floor in another room humming mildly to herself, slowly working her way across the room. Her hazel eyes danced from side to side in the same speed and motion as the broom. Twitching her eyebrow in laughter as a small cat emerged crouching low to the ground. The yellow-green eyes following the same movement as the journeyman harpers. Tail twitching and flicking from side to side, hind legs rising before the cat had burst forth from her crouched hiding place, claws extended diving forward towards the broom. Catching the candidate off gaurd she let out a rather odd yelp before falling back onto her rear with a surprised look.
Letting out her breath as she raised her hand to her chest Chehero shivered, the air drafting in felt cold. Luckily someone had already replaced the glows, so she wasn't in total darkness. Glancing up at the sky, Chehero shifted the sun was quickly fading. Feeling a rather odd twinge in her nose, the older candidate sneezed. The amount of dust she had been sweeping didn't seem to move anywhere, but into the air only to settle back down again. It was an never ending chore, one she didn't like to do but did it on the account it was an order.
Sighing with a glance out the side window Chehero couldn't help but smile. The earth was a very dark brown, though it was winter no snow covered the earth. Frost however did cover a few of the weeping tree's making them look like large waterfalls. The most beautiful part of winter in her opinion. Feeling a tug on the broom once again Chehero scrunched her eye brows together with a smirk. The cat was till playing with her broom. Reaching her hand out while making a rather odd squeaking noise through her lips, Chehero was rewarded when the rather small orange feline moved closer rubbing up against her hand.
The harpers attention was quickly caught when she heard the click, clack, of footsteps coming down the hallway. Frowning blinking twice the candidate quickly scooped up her brush returning to sweeping the floor in a little more frantic fashion than she had previously been working at.

Farryl trudged a little as she came into the Main Hall. She was dressed in her drab grey clothes with her chestnut hair tied back. She had a buck in one hand, a rag in the other, and a cheerful blue fire lizard draped over her shoulders. Chores that involved being indoors were not among her favorites, but they sure beat chores that involved being near water. At least she wasn't alone. Another woman, a little older than she was, was already busily sweeping away.
"Hello," Farryl waved and smiled. She searched her mind. She was sure she knew this woman from somewhere. Wasn't she one of the harpers? "It's Chehero, right?" she asked slowly. "I don't think we've properly met. I'm Farryl." She set her bucket down and soaked the rag in it. Before long, she was busy wiping down tables. Hobbs watched in fascination, half contemplating attacking the moving cloth for fun. "You got stuck with cleaning duty too, huh?" Just because they were working, didn't mean they couldn't talk and Farryl still enjoyed talking to people she didn't know well. It was new and exciting.

Looking up to see who had come into the room Chehero was revealed to find it was only one of the other candidates she was to be working with. "Yes, unfortunately I did get the same cleaning job. But I guess it would be worse. We could have kitchen duty." Chehero subconsciously shivered at the thought, cooking was not a good quality she possessed. Granted she could sing and play, but cook a decent meal that would taste good. No, she would probably add something harmful by accident and end up making everyone sick.
Slowing down her pace at sweeping Chehero sneezed again, rubbing her finger under her nose. She had stirred up so much dust it was almost impossible to move to a clean spot of air. She could just imagine what it would look like to anyone passing by the room, while they where currently working. Billowing dust clouds rolling out into the hallway, maybe that was why she hadn't seen anyone pass by in several hours. They were avoiding the dust clouds she was making.
Turning her attention back to Farryl Chehero sneezed again. "Shards, this dust is rather irritating, sorry about this Farryl." Clearing her throat she continued. "So how long have you been a cand-" She was cut off by a surprising tug on her broom once again, the cat had returned to his playful game of catch.

Farryl chuckled. She wasn't that bad of a cook, but she was no expert either. "Worse still we could be with boats." Farryl shuddered at the thought. She was getting better about boats, but she still hated them. At least Peppeth was finally large enough to fly her around a bit. She didn't have to get people to ferry her across the river while she clung for dear life.
Farryl waved some of the dust from her face with her hand. "Phew! It's a wonder we can even breath in here." She swiped another table, which only seemed to add to the cloud. Hobbs gave a squeaky sneeze to echo Chehero's. At this rate, they were going to need a bath, never mind the floor. "Oh," Farryl looked up. "I'm not a candidate anymore." She glanced down at her shoulder, but was dismayed to find that Hobbs was conveniently covering her weyrling knots. Oh well, she was still young. It was no surprise if people mistook her for a candidate. "I impressed almost a year ago," she went on. "Peppeth is her name, a little green." She smiled at the thought of her dragon. Peppeth was sleepy already, having grown bored of waiting for her to get back.
"Cute feline," Farryl glanced at the troublemaker with a grin. "Is he yours?"

"True, I wouldn't want to be working on the boats in this weather. Much to cold wouldn't you agree?" Chehero didn't have much practice with the boats. Considering she was born in a woodcraft hold. She hadn't seen water there unless if was for drinking. So the very thought of using wood to cross the water seemed a little odd to her. Or would have, had she not studied it in her lessons as a harper. Tugging on the broom to free it from the cats eager paws Chehero huffed reaching down to pick it up by the back of its neck.
Coughing to clear her lungs of the growing dust Chehero shifted her weight onto one leg. This was getting ridiculous, even if the two of them piled several buckets of water. It would take them all day, and several trips of mud, to clean the whole room. It wasn't a surprise the other girl was having so much difficulty trying to clean the table tops. They would need a constant moment of water to clean. Turning her hazel eyes away from the cat in her hand to the weyrling, the candidate twisted the corner of her mouth. "Oh, I'm sorry I... I thought you were another candidate. I didn't know weyrlings did chores with us." A rather sudden sound forced Chehero to jump letting go of the cat, watching it slump back to the other end of the room.
Mine? No this cat wasn't her's but is sure did follow her around a lot. Not that it bothered her, shaking her head slowly the girl replied. "No I don't have any companions, he just kinda showed up out of thin air." Glancing in the direction she had seen him slither off to she grunted. She couldn't even see the wall. Let alone the door, how would they find their way out after this?

"I'm sorry to say we don't escape chores so easily," Farryl returned easily. She was not offended by Chehero's mistake. Anyone could have made it. "Don't worry about it." Farryl chuckled at the feline's antics as she moved to a new table. "I think he's decided you need a friend. I have a feline, Mikka, who is quite the troublemaker." Mostly she was fond of climbing as high as possible, and then knocking whatever she found to the floor. Farryl had long since removed anything of value from her shelves.
"Are you a candidate then?" she went on curiously. "Are you excited? They say Hepaticath should rise soon."

"Yeah, it was a real shock when I was searched." She paused a moment, all the candidates she had met seemed to be exited about the prospect of such a close hatching. To be honest though, she felt intimidated by all the dragonriders around her. "I guess I am exited. Or at least just as exited as the next candidate would be." All the feelings and emotions around seemed to be so impacting Chehero really didn't know what to feel about being a candidate let alone that the gold queen Hepaticath was soon to rise. So many rumors were flying around she found it best to wait until someone with a bit more knowledge than the drudges or other candidates, would tell her about the event.
Brushing the ground with her broom in a couple more strokes Chehero paused. "Hey, uh Farryl. Want to go with me to gather some more water for this room and replace your water." Chehero offered pointed towards the dirty bucket of water. From the looks of it they could both use some clean buckets of water for the room. After all the dust Chehero was stirring up wasn't going anywhere but in the air to settle only a few feet away from were it had originally started.

Farryl nodded. "I was pretty excited myself, but also nervous. It's completely out of your control whether a dragon chooses you or not." She smiled. "But don't worry. I'm sure you'll impress. Hobbs likes you already." The blue fire lizard trilled in approval. He did like Chehero. She was a good human.
Farryl looked down at the icky muck that used to be her water. She made a face at it. "I think so," she agreed. "Or I'll just make the tables more dirty. Besides, we should get out of this dust before we choke." She collected her bucket and started towards the door, glancing to see if the older girl was following.

Smiling at the mention of the blue firelizard taking a liking to her she felt a little lighter. Picking up her broom and setting it to the side against the wall. If anything she was going to grab a broom from the cleaning place and another bucket to mop the floor with. Leading the pair out of the room Chehero was surprised to see a fair amount of the dust had settled outside. That only made things harder, Chehero would spend even more time mopping up in the hallway now as well.
Tugging at a strand of dark hair the candidate glanced back with a sigh. "Do all workers really have this much trouble with cleaning and old room out?" Shaking her head a little Chehero continued on towards the cleaning room. Opening a door to reveal several buckets strewn across the floor followed by a mop and broom Chehero glanced over to Farryl. She had no idea where to get the water from considering it was winter. Pulling up a bucket and broom Chehero turned to the weyrling. "So, er. Where would we get the water from?"

Farryl nodded gloomily. "It's a pain to clean that's for sure. Don't feel discouraged." Farryl followed Chehero to the closet for more cleaning supplies. Farryl grabbed a few more rags while she answered the next question. "Probably from the bathing rooms. They'll have plenty to spare." She smiled and let the way. It wasn't all that far.

"You think so?" Chehero mindfully followed the weyrling her mind humming with newborn question, as she remembered a comment Farryl had said to her earlier. Wasn't she a weyrling that meant even if she was higher rank she could be a little insight to the life that /might/ be ahead of her. Repositioning the mop and empty bucket in her hand she glanced forward, clearing her throat. "H-hey Farryl. What's it like to be bonded to a dragon?" It had been a curious question she had been mulling over some time now. Basically since the day she had met the searchrider. "And, is it hard? You know... being a weyrling."
Closing her mouth out of politeness more curious questions seemed to ebb forth. Like, how old was her dragon, what color, was it male or female or did they even have a specific gender for that matter. Chehero had listened in class but none of these questions seemed to be answered, and she herself was far to shy to ask them in front of everyone. What if all these were common knowledge? She didn't know, especially when everything concerning them seemed to be such a myth until recently.
