Kyrstin wasn't sure if he should count himself lucky to be uninjured or unlucky. It was nice to be able to move around with so much more easy than many, but with so many of the other healers either dead or wounded, it had hardly been fun. He'd barely gotten any sleep in the days since the earthquake, only enough to keep him functioning. Most of the worst injuries had been treated, but he still had so much work to do just keeping everyone alive.
The working conditions weren't helping. The triage camp was set up with a few canvas tents and supplies salvaged from the infirmary. It just wasn't enough. One good storm and the whole place would come down and supplies were woefully low. They could gain more supplies from the Holds, but how long would it last? The Weyr was in ruins and rebuilding would take turns from what Kyrstin could tell.
Kyrstin hid a yawn as he walked into one of the tents. He needed to check up on his patients, make sure they weren't being stupid. More than half these injuries he was sure were the result of stupidity. Shards and shells, but he was a healer not a baby sitter! These Southern folk were so easily rattled by a disaster like this, it was hard to imagine them withstanding Northern attacks of any size. Certainly they were no threat to anyone now.

Dy'shi woke up, as he had the past few days, a little lost and disoriented. Why he had to stay in the triage tents he had no idea. His wounds really weren't all that bad in comparison to most others. He had really just...wanted to help people and gotten a little scratched up. Nothing to fuss so much over. Little did he know he had begun to show a few signs of slight infection to his nasty scrapes from wiggling out of an opening that he was too big for.
He sat up and ignored the twinges of pain as he stretched upwards. Now then...how could he actually be of some use? He was getting tired of being in the tent when he was perfectly capable of helping out. They wouldn't begrudge him assisting them with Healing would they? He was fairly good at fetch and carry. Sheya awakened with a little cheep and she fluttered over to her bonded and landed on his shoulder. Good morning, good morning! And..oh what waas this?
The green flashed two separate images to two different people. To Dy'shi she flashed an image of a certain Healer he found kind of attractive (even if he was annoying) entering the tent. To Kyrstin she sent an image of Hers stretching oh so nicely. Look, wasn't Hers awesome~? Do come over and chat. Scheming little green firelizards were scheming...for the best of Theirs, of course.

Kyrstin blinked, frowning deeply and glanced around until his eyes fell on Dy'shi. Sharding, stupid fire lizard, he thought darkly. He'd forgotten which tent he was walking into and Sheya's annoying habit to send him suggestive images of her owner. Just because they talked on occasion did not mean he found the boy attractive and certainly not when he was a patient. Kyrstin had a rule about getting too close to patients, it was bad for their health and his concentration. Besides, Dy'shi had that female blue mutation that even now gave him shivers to think about. Shards and shells, but he wouldn't be caught dead with a female dragon, not ever.
Kyrstin stalked over in Dy'shi's direction. Attractive or no, he was not getting up and doing something else stupid. He leaned down and pushed the younger boy firmly back onto his bedroll. Kyrstin wished for the hundreth time he had real cots for all the patients, but those that had been salvaged were reserved for the seriously injured. Certainly not for crazy blueriders who got an infection climbing through rocks being heroic. "I said no moving," Kyrstin's voice was hard and unfeeling. "Or do you want the fever to spike?" That would certainly be an unpleasant way to die, he thought. Not that he might care, necessarily, but he didn't want people thinking he wasn't doing his job just because one patient wouldn't follow orders.

Dy'shi sighed at the picture Sheya shot him. Oh lovely. He knew what Kyrstin's presence would mean. The guy was rather strict about things, despite the fact that his wound really was nothing compared to most people's. The bluerider didn't quite expect the Healer to march right over and refuse to even let him up though. As Dy'shi was pushed down he made a sound of discontent and scowled up at Kyrstin. Really? Confined to bed during Selenitas' possibly worst crisis ever?
The young bluerider let out a little frustrated growl. "Oh come on, walking around a little won't kill me. Others have it way worse than I do," he commented peevishly. Then Dy'shi sighed because, really, he was no expert and even he knew he'd healer faster if he just listened. Still, if he could just..."Can't I at least stand up?" Sheya comfortingly rubbed her head against the underside of Hers' jaw, though she was watching Kyrstin curiously.

Kyrstin scowled at Dy'shi's response. He was too tired and too busy for yet more arguments from his patients. "It might," he said flatly and with complete sincerity. "I don't have enough supplies to treat a serious infection on top of what everyone else already has. Even if I manage to keep you alive, that means even less supplies for the next person who feels being helpful is more important than being alive." Kyrstin sighed. He hadn't meant to rant that much. He didn't usually talk much at all. He must be more tired than he thought, maybe he should find time for a nap after his rounds.

Oddly enough, it wasn't Kyrstin's words that managed to get Dy'shi to stay still. Well, not the meaning behind the words, anyways. Dy'shi was nothing if not observant and intelligent (self-injury aside) and had been in the care of Kyrstin long enough already to know the prickly Healer was not, in fact, acting like usual. Runner brown eyes flicked across Kyrstin's face a few times as he talked. Something about being helpful and dying, right?
With a decidedly uncharacteristic snort of what sounded like concern and frustration he sat up again and snatched Kyrstin's wrist. He gave it a hearty tug - heartier than any truly sick person would have been able to manage. He was just fine, see? - in an attempt to pull Kyrstin down onto the bed roll. "You're a hypocrite then. All you healers running around helping people are going to pass out and leave us without anyone who can heal. Sit. It wouldn't kill you to take a rest."
Sheya was practically purring in pleasure when Hers was bold enough to pull at the other male. She preferred a more subtle way of getting a male's attention but...but that just might work too.

Kyrstin growled at the action. Instinct from turns of being bully had him automatically twisted himself free of Dy'shi's grasp, but the damage was done. He must have been more tired than he'd realized because the pull had his knees sinking onto the inviting ground far too readily. It was nice to sit down for a second, not that Kyrstin would ever admit to such weakness.
His eyes burned with a mix of anger and embarrassment, though his face did well to hide the emotion. he settled for shifting his knees to a more comfortable position, as though he'd meant to sit down all along. No one was critical anymore, so he could probably afford to take a short break after all. Not that he would admit Dy'shi was right about him overworking himself, but if only to keep the younger boy in bed where he belonged.
"Very well," he accepted grudgingly. "Perhaps in the meantime, if you insist on being awake, you can tell me more of dragon hatchings. Will the queen be able to clutch under these conditions?" He heard talk among the patients, but hadn't really had time to listen that closely. From what he was hearing, it didn't sound like Millieth would be able to use the Sands. Would she have to go elsewhere to clutch? Or would she hold onto the eggs and eventually die? It was a sobering thought.

The corner's of Dy'shi's mouth might have twisted upwards faintly in a smug grin. Hah! Even though Kyrstin tried to play it of, Dy knew he hadn't planned on sitting down. Indeed, he probably wouldn't have at all without the bluerider's 'encouragement.' The Healer's reaction to being grabbed, however, was a bit concerning. Was he really that adverse to being touched? Or something else? Despite everything between them, Dy'shi would like to know more about the prickly man.
He was half tempted to make some smart comment about insisting on being awake but the topic Kyrstin chose overrode that desire. He frowned as he considered the question for the first time. Being confined to his bed roll he hadn't exactly gotten a good grasp on the siutation. Chakraith's calm observations helped a little but didn't give him a proper sense of things at the same time. Tilting his head a little in thought, Dy'shi's hand automatically drifted to Sheya. He'd always found physical contact with a mindmate helped.
"I'm not really sure. If she can't lay the eggs in a safe, hot place they'll probably die, and I'm not sure she would even lay them at all if that were the case," was what Dy'shi finally said, concern lacing his voice. He gave a slightly apologetic shrug as he realised the answer wasn't exactly helpful. "Most people prefer to hear about Impression and the like. You don't actually want to Impress, do you?" It was a bit much to assume, even the bluerider would admit that. But...

Kyrstin nodded absently. His face betrayed no real concern, only curiosity. He still new only a little about the creatures he was meant to Impress, and from the looks of it, it would be even longer before he got the chance. Not that he was really interesting in Impressing at all, but it was good to be prepared for each eventuality. Would the queen died if she wouldn't lay? He imagined it was possible, but the young queen would mature soon enough, so the Weyr would continue. A heartless way of looking at it, but reasonable from his prospective.
Kyrstin shrugged at Dy'shi's question, taking a moment to check over the meager supplies in his pouch while sat. "Not particularly," he admitted, without a hint of sadness or disappointment. "I came because the rider who stopped the caravan I traveled with was insistent." He frowned at the memory. 'Insistent' was putting it mildly. He'd practically been kidnapped and he was sure the rider wouldn't have been against it. "At the time, it seemed a more interesting line of work than a simple Hold." He didn't necessarily regret that assessment, but he was finding the Weyr far more work than even he could have hoped for.

Dy'shi mentally congratulated himself for correctly reading the Healer, though the answer didn't exactly make him happy. Not like he could say much. When Kyrstin was done complaining, the bluerider said, "I didn't really want to Impress either." Which, all considered, was a bit of an understatement. "Actually, I was downright terrified of it." He ought to remember if he cried when Chakraith chose him anyways but he couldn't. Some said they remembered the exact moment. He only remembered the feelings.
"We came for similar reasons though," Dy'shi offered. "I thought the weyr would be more interesting than Hyphen." Though he spoke seemingly confidently, the bluerider was actual quite tentative about sharing all that information with the candidate healer. Dy'shi wasn't particularly used to talking about himself to anyone other than Chakraith and Sheya. It was pretty strange.
Out of curiosity, Dy'shi asked, "If you did Impress, what colour would you prefer?" Considering Kyrstin's reaction to females in general, he was willing to bet 'anything but green' would be about the right answer. Still, it was worth asking.

Kyrstin made a few uninterested noises at Dy'shi's response. It didn't matter to him if the young rider cared or not, though the idea of someone being terrified of Impressing and actually doing it was intriguing. Maybe there was more to Dy'shi that he had assumed. Still, it wasn't his business and he wasn't here to make friends. Dy'shi likely had a long list of people he would rather talk to and Kyrstin was far more interested in keeping busy himself.
He starting putting supplies back in his pouch, frowning at how little he had. He answered the next question without really thinking about it. "Not green," he said flatly. "Blue or brown is most likely." Truth be told, he wasn't fond of the idea of Impressing anything, but at least blues and browns seemed like pleasant partners. He didn't want a flashy bronze or anything remotely female, thank you very much. He started to stand up, ignore the protest from his knees. He'd been lazy long enough, though he made a note to set aside time to sleep in the next few hours.

Dy'shi was a little put out by Kyrstin's lack of interest even if it was kind of understandable. He sighed mentally only to receive reassurances from Chakraith and Sheya that what he had to say was important. He brushed them away, ruefully grateful. He didn't need quite that much coddling! The bluerider went back to listening to a response, if he even got one. When it was what he expected he grinned, then full out smiled, then outright laughed. Damn but it was funny how well he'd pegged that one!
"F-fair enough!" Dy'shi managed between his laughter. He caught Kyrstin starting to stand up, though, and that killed his laughter enough that he could speak a little easier. "Well, thanks for the company. Do get some more rest later. I have enough to worry about without adding you to the list..." The bluerider trailed off as he realized that was a little odd to say and he looked away with a faint frown. The heck was he sayig to some guy he barely knew?
