Hobbies. Most people had them. They varied from person to person. Some collected rocks. Other collected other random items - such as buttons or leaves. Roselle had a hobby, but it didn't include collecting things. No she had no need for a bunch of junk cluttering up her not-so-spacious room. Her hobby was more organized, more refined. She made things.
More specifically she made jewelry. Used to doing so for her father in Hyphen - all for his profit of course - now that she could do so without him harping her about perfection or knowing she would never see the proceeds it seemed a lot more... fun to her. And what makes Roselle happy makes Tserieth happy, so it was natural the Green would take a slight interest in her rider's pastimes.
When not busy with chores, lessons, or just general care of her Green, Roselle had been spending time in her room cutting the raw gems she'd brought with her from Hyphen and fashioning different things. Bracelets. A necklace. Two rings. They were nothing exciting, nothing that would start the latest fashion trend - but they made her happy and kept her from walking around brooding.
Today was such a day she had time to make something pretty, and after some harping from her Green she agreed to make something for Tserieth. A necklace wouldn't be practical, it'd be in the way when it came time to fly (when she eventually got to that part of her training) and it would make her already awkward walk on the ground even more awkward. So Roselle thought about it long and hard, sketched out some designs, and now here she was trying to fit her newest creation onto her dragon's... head knobs.
Yes the item she'd made for the Green was a head-dress of sorts, there were parts that would curl delicately around her head knobs to keep it in place. There were various deep blue and deep green gems strewn along the thin rolled metal that made up the head-dress. The pair were outside of the barracks, Roselle wanted to see how it looked in better lighting. She tweaked it here and there, fixing this angle and moving that gem every so often until finally she was pleased with the outcome.
You were already the most beautiful dragon, now the others have more to be jealous of. Roselle boasted to her Green as she leaned in to rest her forehead against hers briefly. Standing up she stepped back and grinned before finding somewhere nearby to sit. Tserieth moved so Roselle could lean against her side as she sat on the ground, the pair choosing to relax out in the sun for now instead of running right back to their room.

Jazz was, for lack of a better word, bored. Not actively so, mind you. She hadn't gone looking for anyone to spend time with, nor had she gone hunting, or any of the usual fun things. She simply wandered around in a sort of dazed state, trying to decide what to do. Cr'oph unfortunately seemed mostly interested in getting into her pants whenever she was around and it was beginning to turn into a sour point for her. Not one to hold unpleasant things in for long, she occasionally wondered when it would boil over - aka, when would she tell him she thought he was a prick sometimes? Oh, but he was charming about it. Her indecision was slowly driving her nuts.
She'd started off with him okay, confident in her actions and knowing she felt little more than a growing attraction to him. As the feelings continued to grow, however, she started to get a little tentative in her thoughts towards him. What in the world was she getting into? Jazheera was not against falling in love, though she outright refused to be Joined under any circumstances. The very thought brought up her bitter resentment of her father. Besides, M'ta had been Joined to R'wign and that hadn't kept him around. If they loved one another, what need was there to get it...acknowledged that way?
She shook off her thoughts in time to notice that her wandering had actually brought her close to one of the weyrlings. Didn't know her name, unfortunately, but the green had drawn her curiosity and Jazz was not one to let information she wanted pass her by. The diminutive woman wandered closer and called out, "'lo there. Quite an interesting headpiece your green is wearing there." The bluerider was not an unfriendly sort but she really wished she'd tried to get to know some of the weyrlings. They were their only hope after all.

Roselle turned her head to look over at the other woman, a bit cross that Tserieth hadn't bothered to warn her someone was coming. After all the Green was looking right at the rider and definitely saw her heading their way. A bit of a heads up would have been nice. Sitting up fully Roselle quickly pushed herself up and brushed off. "Thank you. Made it myself."
A bit of pride hinted in her voice as she spoke, nodding politely to the rider as she approached.
Rosemine makes many pretty things. Tserieth informed Jazheera as she bowed her head a bit so the woman could get a full view of her pretty head-dress.
To this Roselle nodded and her cheeks tinged a light pink. She didn't enjoy talking about herself, nor did she enjoy when others talked about her. The only time she 'boasted' about her wares were when they were for sale. She rarely sought out people to go 'look what I did!' - she just wasn't that kind of gal. Even if her skill was rather impressive given she had no formal training and all.
Thank you, little one. Roselle silently snapped at her Green, eying her before turning her attention back to Jazheera.
"Name is Roselle, this lunk is Tserieth."

Jazheera was startled into an impressed smile at the greenweyrling's words. She always seemed to meet the most skilled of people. Tenlie and now...urgh, she really needed to find out the girl's name. "You have quite a talent," Jazz acknowledged verbally. Granted, people had said the same thing about her but she couldn't make anything. To create something from nothing...she almost made the mistake of scowling when Dhavalth made a smart comment about bearing a child.
Ignoring her dragon she leaned forward a little to get a better look at the headdress when Tserieth tilted her head forward. "Pretty indeed. A certain blue dragon is a little envious," she commented, nonplussed by another dragon bespeaking her. Dhavalth spoke to others too. A momentary pause before she added wryly, "He'd also like me to inform you that you're a lovely green yourself, well deserving of such pretty jewlery." He was ever the flirt, wasn't he? She doubted Rajnith would take that well.
Jazz didn't even notice the girl's blush. Instead she latched onto the name. "Nice to meet ya. I'm Jazheera, or Jazz if you like. Dhavalth is the blue lunk attached to my mind." She was quite aware she was borrowing Roselle's word to describe her dragon too. It was rather fitting and amusing to boot. "So...you made this. Have you made anything else?" The bluerider asked out of curiosity. Jazz was not necessarily into pretty things. More like interesting things. If the two happened to describe the same thing was of no consequence to her.

Roselle was pleased when the other woman admired her work. True she didn't like to brag about her skills, and yes she knew she was skilled, but when someone else just happened to critique it in a favorable way... she did enjoy it. Smiling she gave a slight nod, "Aye, my father had me making jewelery in Hyphen. Cutting raw gems after inspecting them and fashioning different things. Rings. Bracelets. Necklaces."
Meanwhile, it was Tserieth's turn to 'blush' - well not really since she couldn't, but her head ducked down and she crooned quietly at the compliment Jazheera had passed on from her Blue. Roselle's cheeks blushed as her dragon's emotions hit her and she glanced over at Tserieth. Stop that, she's going to think I'm constantly embarrassed.
"Its nice to meet you too... Jazz." When she spoke she paused before saying the woman's name, as if trying to decide which version she preferred. While she wasn't one-hundred percent comfortable with the familiarity implied with a nickname, she found it easier to say than the Bluerider's full name. Dark eyes looked over the rider for a moment, studying her briefly. Roselle had been coming out of her shell since she Impressed, but still it was a slow process and she hadn't had much practice interacting with people the past few turns.
Something troubles her mind.
You have to stop doing that Tserieth. You cannot possibly know what is on her mind. Half the time you don't even know what is on your own mind.
Her eyes. Tserieth said to Roselle before looking to Jazheera, Rosemine wonders what you do here, Dhavalth's. It was true, Roselle had been idly wondering what role the Bluerider played in the Weyr. Searchrider? Something else? She partially wondered because she was trying to figure out what role she would play when Tserieth was grown. Still though, the Green didn't need to be so nosey and pushy - she would have asked on her own, eventually.
You shouldn't talk to others like that. I can talk for myself, thank-you-very-much-little-one. I've heard most dragons don't bespeak any but theirs though, it might be unsettling. Roselle looked pointedly at her dragon as she said this.
Others are interesting. They do not mind it.
"I'm so glad you know everything." Roselle said to her dragon - ears tinged red as she realized she'd said that out loud. Clearing her throat she looked around awkwardly before she looked back at Jazz. "Sorry about that... But like Tserieth said... what is it you do around the Weyr?"

"I see," Jazz said, smiling faintly. "Hyphen, huh? Nice enough place sometimes. They can be a bit stiff there, though." Indeed, Hyphen wasn't terribly fond of dragonriders. They were a lot better than LightTower Hold but...they probably still held a grudge over the force mining a long time ago now. Jazheera wished they could let go of that now. It's not like the current leadership of a weyr had naything to do with the leadership from before. The bluerider pulled out of her musings to watch the green's reaction and mentally rolled her eyes at her blue.
A bit young for flirting, Dhavalth. Quit it, she scolded her rhyming mindpartner and he settled with a poetic apology. He was quite aware of his mistake. It didn't make his compliment any less true. Jazz blinked, nonplussed, as Roselle and Tserieth both seemed to be examining her. For one reason or another, she was used to being examined. Either it was her short height, her boy-ish mannerisms, or she had just performed some trick or said something strange. When the green finally spoke to her, Jazz simply shrugged.
She would have answered right away too but the weyrling girl spoke up to her dragon. A bright smile pulled its way across her face and she tipped her head to the side a tiny bit. "You get fairly used to that eventually," she commented dismissively but fondly. "As for what I do...well, I'm not terribly important around here. I go on the occasional sweep or recon mission. Not often though. Mostly I go hunting in my spare time to bring in a little extra food. Other than that, whatever people need me for I help out."
She paused, mentally going over the tasks people could do before shrugging again. "Not much to do, really. We've already explored what we need of the weyr right now. No point for searchriders, not that Dhavalth is a search dragon anyways. Mostly we jsut try and lay low and...wait." Wait for the weyrligns to grow up. Wait for a chance to do something. Wait, wait, wait. Jazz hated the inactivity even as she liked the sort of freedom it gave her. She'd grown used to travelling so being weyr-bound where she was constantly busy had been growing a bit tiring.

"I doubt I'll ever get used to sharing a mind-space with this loud mouth here. Hopefully she learns some better manners." Roselle said, glaring at her Green before listening to Jazz's reply. Interesting. So it seemed like there was a whole lot of... nothing to do. "Any idea what the Weyrlings will be assigned to do when our dragons are grown?"
Really, sitting around doing nothing may be fun for some people - she thought of T'ri and his Blue here - but for her it seemed rather... boring. Wasteful. Was there really nothing to do around Burimyu? What was the point then? It'd almost seem better to be back at Selenitas under Wasteland rule than to sit off in exile doing nothing all the time.
Frowning she looked back at Tserieth's head-dress and tweaked part of it. There, it was perfect now. She smiled and then pulled another length of metal from her pouch - it was thin and easily manipulated. Soon she was braiding it with other pieces and weaving some cut gems into it as she made a bracelet. "So then... I take it there isn't much to do around here overall."

"Manners, huh? At least Tserieth talks normally. Dhavalth talks in rhyme. All. The. Time. If I can get used to that, I think you can handle a loud mouth," Jazheera said in response, though not unkindly to the green dragon who she smiled and winked at. She felt Dhavalth bristle slightly in her mind and begin poetically explaining that his speech was an art. It should not be mocked by those who do not understand such. Jazz merely ignored his ranting as Roselle brought her attention back to the pair in front of her.
"Hmm, I really don't have any clue," Jazz stated bluntly, "but if it was up to me I'd have you guys training more past weyrlinghood. Combat training and then aerial training...probably in the desert we use for green flights." The bluerider shrugged then. "But it's not up to me. Sel'n and the council may decide whatever training you get through lessons will be enough. In which case you'd graduate and be put to work doing...well, whatever pops up I imagine." In other words: pretty much nothing, since beyond going out and looking for trouble Burimyu doesn't have much of it.
She watched as Roselle started on another piece of jewlery and she tipped her head in interest. Her attention was so focused on what the weyrling was doing it took her a moment to rememberto answer the new question. "No, not much. Just whatever hobbies you happen to have. personally I'd love to go for a runner ride but I'd either have to make a land trip to a Hold and buy one with marks I don't have or capture and tame a wild one. I was never so good with disobedient runners so I doubt that would turn out well even if I tried it."

At the mention of the older rider her ears tinged pink - and Tserieth gave an odd croon which could have been described as a draconic giggle.
Hush! Roselle hissed in her mind at her dragon, glaring at her before turning her attention back on the bracelet she was working on.
"Runners. Hm." She said, half to herself-half to Jazz. "Taming a wild runner does sound like it might be a bit tricky, but it might give you something to do? Sounds like its pretty boring here otherwise."
Roselle wasn't the best conversationalist, which may have been obvious at this point to the rider - since she'd brought up the lack of things to do numerous times already. Still she was trying - which was something for her. Before she Impressed her Green, she wouldn't have been caught outside of her room or talking to anyone here in Burimyu. Tserieth was definitely bringing a bit of Roselle's old personality back out of hiding.

Jazz wasn't exactly oblivious but she wasn't exactly perceptive either. She did catch the dragon's croon and noted Roselle's expression but only blinked it away. It seemed like pretty standard dragon-rider interaction, really. It was kind of amusing seeing it in a weyrling though. Older riders tended to function entirely on the mental communication when bantering with their life partner. Weyrlings, apparently, let outsiders see a bit more.
The bluerider inclined her head forward, acknowledging Roselle's point. "In that case I don't see why I cannot try..." She paused, eyeing the weyrling pair consideringly. "Maybe not right now since I should probably ask Sel'n and you're occupied, but maybe you could accompany me? Since, y'know, the weyr is soooo boring." There was a slight teasing note to her voice. Roselle brought it on herself, mentioning the lack of anything to do so often.
To clarify she was serious about the offer, though, she added," I wouldn't make you do any of the dangerous stuff. Heck, the first time we go looking would probably be just that - to find where any wild ones might be." Jazz would certainly like company if she undertook the endeavor and she was rather warming to the idea of befriending Roselle.

An offer to leave the Weyr? Roselle was all about that. She'd been stuck in Buri since she was Searched - and would be for quite some time until she finally became a full rider. Even then she knew there would be a lot of talk about being extra careful outside of the Weyr since Selenitas patrols were increasing. She nodded and offered a bit of a smile, "I wouldn't mind helping at all. Haven't been out of here since I was Searched."
She wrapped the bracelet she was working on around her wrist to size it, glancing towards Jazheera's wrist briefly before making the bracelet a tad wider. A few more gems went onto the braided metal and she worked at fixing them into place so they wouldn't all slide to one side when worn. Her fingers worked quickly, bending and shaping the rolled metal with skill until she had it just how she wanted it. Finally she laced the ends together so the bracelet was whole and complete. Smiling, mostly to herself, she held the bracelet up and eyed it - had to make sure it was just right.
Satisfied she offered it out to the Bluerider, "Here. It should fit, I hope."
The jewelry was nothing extravagant, a simple metal braid for the base with five or so cut and smoothed gems weaved into place evenly around it. The gems she'd picked were shades of blue - dark and light blue. It seemed fitting in her mind for the Bluerider.
