Swithin covered his yawn with the back of his hand as he made his way into the dining hall. While the rest of the Weyr - handlers excluded - were getting up and coming into the hall for breakfast, Swithin and the other handlers were just wrapping up their 'day' with dinner. He idly wondered how the cooks kept up with the work of providing different meals at all hours of the day and night, but dismissed it. He wasn't really that curious. Everyone had a job to do after all, even if it was just cooking.
So he grabbed some sweet cakes and smothered them in berry sauce before making his way to a far table. Sitting down alone he stretched before cutting into the cakes and giving a sleepy smile. True he was eating 'breakfast' food but it was out there for the taking, and he craved it more than any of the 'dinner' foods they had sitting out there. Before he even took his first bite he realized he'd forgotten his klah. So up he went and towards the table once more - grabbing a mug he poured himself some steaming klah. Turning to go back to his table and food - before some firelizard or salamandyr started picking at it - he accidentally bumped into someone.
"Ah, excuse me. Didn't see you there..."
Shards, just like him to run into someone because he wasn't paying attention. Could he do nothing right? His low-self esteem was eating at the back of his mind, especialy since Swisk was asleep and his never-ending optimism and 'I can do anything attitude' weren't there to make him feel better.

R'vor was having a problem. Meal time was always a problem these days, he was not taking kindly to the vegeterian diet he was being forced to comply with since impressing Pisero. The little white mandyr just as vehmently refused to allow his human near any meat whatsoever.
He had been so close this meal time, so close! Pisero had been lounding on his middle finger, tail wound tightly around his wrist, sleeping peacefully, so R'vor had taken the opertunity to sneak to the kitchens from some snacking, the lettage and fruits that he had been allowed to eat earlier had not sated his hunger.
Moving quietly through the kitchens, keeping his hand where Pisero pearched steady, he hastially pocketed some meatrolls before shoving one into his mouth. Meat, glorious meat! Oh how R'vor had missed thee. And for once, he wasn't being assaulted by his mandyr for touching the delecious food!
He took another lage bite, grinning cheerfully. Deciding he should sit down, he turned to a table, carefully of course, and searched for a seat. Out of the blue. he felt a jar to his back which sent him crashing forward. R'vor was fourced to stick his hands out to break his fall, and in the process Pisero woke up.
The White mandyr was up in the air at once, flitt around, eyes whirling shades of orange and red. His was touching the filthy! Noooo! Drop it, drop it right now! he landed on R'vor's head and and began the usual bonbardment of kalidoscope colors, causing R'vor to flinch and wince until finally he gave up and succombed to the tourent of images.
R'vor stood up abrumptly and spat out the meatroll, throwing the rest as far away as possible. Good Human! The white mandyr's eyes ceased rotating and he crawled down to R'vors nose, gracing his human with images of peacefulnnes and cerenity. He had saved R'vor from the meat, so his human could be forgiven.
R'vor shook himself off and turned to see what had knocked him over and disrupted his midnight snack. And who might this be? His knots proclaimed him to be a handler, but R'vor was sure that he had never met him before. Pisero peared at the other human curiously. This is the one that had saved his human from certain death by meat. He needed to be watched, perhaps he was a meat spy in disquise. R'vore patted the head of the white, trying to calm the frantic images it was beginning to project.
"It's quite alright, I'm R'vor, and this is Pisero"

Cue the odd looks. Not directed at him of course, they were coming from the Bluehandler as he looked at the Bluerider. More specifically the Bluerider's little white salamandyr. It seemed to be pretty upset about something until the rider spit out his food and tossed the other meatrolls far away. Were all salamandyr owners this strange?
"I didn't mean to knock you and your pet over. Name's Swithin." Another strange look was given to Pisero. "Is... Is it alright? Seems a bit peeved about something. And... may I ask what the spitting and tossing of food was about?"
Swithin wasn't normally this talkative, or curious. But something about the little white and the rider's actions just sparked something in him. Besides if he focused all his energy on R'vor then he wouldn't be able to think about all of his own faults. Which is what he'd be doing if he went back to his seat right now.

"It's, alright," R'vor said, grimancing while trying to stop the flow of agitated images that were steming from the white mandyr. "And he's alright, just making sure I don't break my plege of Vegetarianism." The last bit was said with an edge, refraining from meat was becoming tiresome. Perhaps it was worth suffering through the explosive colors that made his head hurt just to get a taste of the juicy stuff.
That thought was picked up by Pisero who imediatly jumped into the air. The meat was not good! R'vor was imediatly surounded by a heaping pile of rotting meat, maggots withering around and constricitng him until he couldn't breath. The meat brought death! The magots transformed into ropes that bound R'vors body and held him in place, where an enlarged Pisero could force feed him the lettace.
Meat killed. Lettace saved. R'vor must learn! "Oh shut up," R'vor muttered, swatting the mandyr with annoyance, sighing when the white betweened and landed back on his wrist. "He doesn't like me eating meat. Your not eating meat are you?" the blue rider asked apprehensivly, eyeing the boy. If he was, he was unsure he could spare this new aquaintance from Pisero's 'wrath'.

A brow was raised as the rider explained his salamandyr hated meat. Really? Most of those little creatures adored meat, didn't they? He eyed the white for a moment before looking back to R'vor. Shaking his head he smiled, "No meat here. Sweet cakes with berry sauce, delicious and meat free. So I suppose I'm safe?"
He nodded towards where his plate was, "You're welcome to join me over there if you'd like. Tell me, is it normal for salamandyrs to dislike meat?"
As he spoke he started inching his way towards where his food was, he liked it better when the berry sauce was warm - the longer they stood talking the colder it would get.

R'vor breathed a sigh of relief as the other said he didn't have any meat. It really would be a lot of trouble to pull the white away from the boy as Pisero tried to 'cleanse him'. Pisero's cleansing methods were rather painful, it usually involved seeing yourself die in painful ways.
"Thanks, I think I will," R'vor said decidily, following his new companion over towards the tables. Pisero landed on his wrist and wrapped his tail around it possesivly, giving Swithin a interested look. So he didn't eat the nasty? Perhpas he could be ok.
"Your right, mandyr's do like meat but this one..." he glanced at his pet. "Despises it. Turned me into a vegetarian he has!"

Swithin's brow rose at the Bluerider's proclamation that his salamandyr had turned him into a vegetarian. He couldn't honestly think of anyone else he'd met that lived solely on fruits and vegetables. Obviously the man wanted some meat, it was a bit cruel of his pet to demand he stay away from it.
"Hm. That is certainly an odd quirk... Any ideas why he doesn't like it?" Swithin asked as he arrived at his table and sat down. Taking a sip of his klah he stifled a yawn against the back of his right hand and eyed the white salamandyr. "Makes me a bit glad I missed out on the latest hatchings - I couldn't imagine giving up something I love to eat just to appease a pet."
He meant no offense to the little one of course, though he meant what he said. If he had a pet that wanted him to change his ways, that pet would find itself being blocked out mentally as best as he'd be able to manage. Unfair it was, for the white to do that to his bonded.
