Rinagth flexed her claws in the dirt like a giant feline and slashed her tail from side to side to further express her frustration with the whole of the world as it stood. The vague feeling that she shouldn’t be angry only served to increase her ire. The green lifted her forepaws from the ground and spun suddenly on her hind legs to regard her rider with eyes that glinted with the faintest of reds and oranges, she was trying hard to be patient, she just wasn’t very good at it.
J’on? Rinagth prodded her rider softly with her muzzle in an attempt to garner his attention, and partly to check he was still in there, when he got like this he shut himself away from Rinagth. She could understand the deep sorrow over Emerith and hers, Rinagth missed her clutchsister too, and not just because she was certain she was prettier than Emerith. But why should hers be sad for the loss of Toryth’s? He had never liked the female greenrider, regarding her as a problem as the best of times. Wasn’t it better that she was gone? However Rinagth lacked the will and the words to express such thoughts so she settled for the poking.
J’on lifted his head and stared at the green snout for a few moments before a thought occurred to him. Rinagth expected a response. J’on lifted a hand and patted the soft hide, as if that would satisfy the dragon. Lately it seemed all his thoughts had been dipped in something sticky they moved that slowly. If it was just his own sorrow he could have handled that. But Wraith shared everything freely with her bonded and the little salamandyr was devastated by the loss of her mate. Naturally she shared her grief as freely as she had shared her love, and it affected J’on just as badly as the unwanted affection had, translating into grief over Ciara and Toryth as well as Chatti.
J’on realised, very slowly, that Rina expected a bit more than a pat on the nose from him. The greenrider ran a hand through his unkempt hair, nearly knocking Wraith flying as he did so, and looked around for inspiration. ‘Why’re you eyes like that?’ he blurted out, and realised as soon as he said it that it had been exactly the wrong thing to say as the angry tones in Rinagth’s eyes picked up speed.
Rinagth flared her wings, backing up several paces so she wouldn’t clip them on any trees. Why are my eyes like this? the green demanded indignantly, lashing her tail across the floor in a spray of dead leaves and assorted other debris. I don’t know, I think it might be because I’m tired of my rider sitting around, undoubtedly tempting some awful illness, moping over some woman he never liked anyway. Rinagth pranced up and down, apparently unable to keep still in her sudden fury. You’re acting stupidly, you haven’t bothered to eat anything all day, again, and when was the last time you had a bath? Or gave me a bath come to that?
J’on giggled, though he’d be ashamed to admit to such a sound, and scrabbled to his feet. ‘What you’re my mother now as well?’ He demanded, hand on hips, foot tapping.
Well someone needs to look after you. You certainly can’t look after yourself. Rinagth retorted, triumph evident in her tone and her stance, she’d made him do something!
