It’s going to rain soon. A dark blue, dragon sized shape gazed up at the clouds as if judging them, which he was in a way but as most dragons did Azrath was using his rider’s mind to find the information he wanted. Predictive meteorology was not Azrath’s strong point.
In fact it was hardly Darya’s strong point either, but dark rolling clouds and a rising wind that made the whippet lean woman huddle in her thin shirt and shorts that had seemed like a good idea earlier in the day were sort of a give away. They were probably due a wild early summer storm. If they were lucky it might even stop the whole Weyr stinking of smoke and ashes. However, despite the chill in the air Darya merely set her jaw stubbornly and shrugged.
Azrath sighed heavily and flopped over on his side to eye his rider, who currently sat in the sand with her knees drawn up to her chest, her arms folded around them, and her chin resting on her knees. It didn’t look like a very comfortable way for a human to sit but that probably wouldn’t stop Darya doing it. I take it you are not interested in going home then? The dragon inquired pleasantly and received a grunt for his trouble. I’ll take that as a no then. What are you interested in doing, anything? Or is the heat making you too bad tempered to function again? No, impossible, you’re always bad tempered. Well if you’re sure the rain won’t make it worse… Azrath paused and blinked slowly gauging the effect of his needling
I’m just bad tempered? The thought was slightly amused and with a darker edge of irritation than normally accompanied Darya’s thoughts. Everyone else gets by without an excuse, why not me?
I don’t have to live with everyone else. If you get a cold you’ll be even worse than you already are. You can get colds from sitting put in the rain. Azrath pointed out implacably, his eyes whirling brighter shades in victory over a coherent response. You’ve probably got sunburn already, you know you burn easily.
Fussy dragon. I’m only a bit pink. It’ll be gone by this evening. I want to stay here. You’re free to go, if you want. I’ll enjoy the rain.
Stubborn human
