Appearance: Kai is tall for his age. Tall and lean, though not very beanstalkish. Its clearly obvious he has inherited height and facial shape from his father, though it seems many of the similarities to K'roi ends there. Kai got his mother's freckles and olive skin. His hair on the other hand is not red, not is it necessarily brown either. Although his curly hair is currently a dark brown, it will eventually lighten to a dark Auburn. Unlike the super curely hair he had as a toddler, the young boy now has a lovely wave, if he keeps it brushed that is.
His face is more oval than anything else, with high cheek bones and a slightly large nose. Small freckles are smattered across said nose and leak onto the sides of his face. Although numerous, most will fade with time. His almond shaped eyes are a predominately Brown, but have enough green in them to be considered hazel. Medium length lashes frame his lids, and somehow bring a more masculine look to his eyes. Kai tans easily and will almost always sport one in the hotter months, he is not easily kept in side if he doesn't need to be. He likes to wear shorts and tunics and doesn't like getting dressed up all fancy for feasts and gathers, everything is too bleh!
Personality: Talkative and loud, he has grown completely out of his toddler shyness. Kai is extremely curious and often tries to convince his friends to go out on adventures with him. If he likes something, the boy will try to get it however he can (short of stealing it that is, because stealing is wrong). Kai has a bit of a short fuse and will get into fights with other boys if they try to mess with him or any of his friends, and although he might not always win, he makes sure the other person gets a few bruises as justice. He's not really frightened of anything, heights aren't a problem, neither is getting hurt... but what does give him pause are Dragons. Unlike Riaren, Kai finds Dragons unsettling, except for Millieth since she's the only Dragon he grew up with. He knows for certain she's not going to eat him or whatever. On the other hand he is absolutely in love with Firelizards and Salamandyrs. He will always have on or the other species around, usually its Master but not always. Its extremely rare to find him without some sort of little critter around.
Never having known his father Kai is very close to his mom, although he often doesn't show it in public. Cause eww, kisses. But he's sure she knows he loves her. Kai likes to meet new people, especially if he knows they're into fighting or weapons. He often goes to watch the older riders train if they do it close by. But generally, if they're stuffy, old, and boring he's got the attention span of a gnat. Unless of course, he's bribed with something. Like candy or toys, or a get out of trouble free pass. Then they are the most interesting person in the world and nobody else is like them. And, despite being the Weyrwoman's son, Kai doesn't pull that card to get his way. In fact, he hates pulling it, because he doesn't want to be known as Kaegan's son. He wants to be known as Kai.
History: If Kaegan had actually liked K'roi and hadn't been under the powerful effects of runlust, the place of Kai's conception might have been considered romantic. The Weyrwoman had been shell collecting with her Brown Salamandyr Dash when she ran into the Bronzerider, it had all started so innocently. They were walking together on the shore near a secluded cove when Dash fled the scene to chase a wild Green Firelizard. Kaegan then turned on K'roi, for lack of any other choice (he was male and attractive, and that was good enough in her lusty mind), though apparently he didn't mind the sudden change in events. Afterward Kaegan, being the busy person she was, uncharacteristically forgot to fly Between. And so, Kai was conceived. It wouldn't be wrong to say that he certainly was a surprise. Born June 16, Kai is a healthy if large baby. And although Kaegan is his prime caretaker, he often has to be passed off Meiriad or a creche worker.
So far things have been rather smooth for this child, although the plague that had taken his father had been quite a scare. Slowly growing, he's been fortunate to be able to grow up in a single place. For his temperament, it certainly is easier now that he only has a single parent. But maybe, if his mother ever finds someone, he could tolerate another person sharing her attentions. And then in March of 3014, Fort attacked Selenitas. Although he wont remember all of it vividly, such a traumatic smoke covered experience will reside in his subconscious into adulthood, and is the basis for his irrational dislike for fire.
When the Wastelanders took over in 3015, he was used as insurance for Kaegan's cooperation. And when Millieth's fifth clutch hatched under the supervision of the Wastelanders, he was once again used as a chip over Kaegan's shoulder. He was returned safely to her, but it probably isn't the last time he'll be used in such a manner.
3016-3018
3016 was actually rather a calm year for the young boy, filled with playing and other fun things. Although he was too young to really realize the whole tension thing that was going around, he knew that his mommy wasn't very happy all the time. Which she should be cause she was his mommy! In 3017 there was a huuuge earthshake that made all the walls rumble and even fall down. Which was really scary especially when his mommy wouldn't wake up for a long time. Eventually they were saved by a big man who rode a shiny and a smaller man who rode a wher. Though the healers made him drink nasty things and put bandages all over him when they were handed off. It wasn't fun. At all. Soon after they had to move, because they couldn't live in Selenitas anymore cause it was so messy. Which made him sad, because it was his home and he would miss the river and the waterfall. But his mommy said they could take all their pets with them, and that made it a little better. But what made the move worthwhile was that he got to see Riaren again! Now they could play with Teri like before!
3018 rolled around and he actively began to seek out flitters in hope he could find clutches. Kai had always assumed Dash and Azzie were his, like Soleil was, but he now realized they weren't. That they loved his mom a lot more than they loved him, which... was a lot. And it wasn't fair. So he wanted a flitter of his own! He helped take care of his canine and he helped feed Azzie snacks and stuff, and he loved them, so obviously he could take care of his own little one. It was in March of 3018 that Kai managed to stumble onto a hatching he hadn't even known was happening, it could have been a wild clutch, but he didn't really know. Or care. As long as he could watch them hatch, because really, babies were cute. Well despite everything, a little blue hopped his way over and landed in his lap. And then everything went weird, cause he was suddenly feeling very hungry and he could feel that the little flitter loved him because he was Kai. It was very confusing and a little scary but then the little Blue ate some meat and acted funny. And he tried to be angry at someone so, in the end, the little boy named the almost grey flit Master. Cause he was trying to lord over everything.

Other than growing older and learning his maths, Kai didn't have much to do with any of the things going on with the War. In fact the only thing he was remotely connected with was moving in 3020 while with his mother to the place where all the very important people met to talk about the War and stuff. He played with the children of the lords and stuff while he was there, he even managed to meet his grandparents and extended family. They seemed nice enough to his mommy, but he could tell that there wasn't enough happiness. Eitherway, he enjoyed his time while his mom helped talk about things. Kai was very proud that his mom was considered very important. He knew already she was special because she rode a Queen but obviously being part of the talks was very important.
After 3020 he just simply grew up. Well that, and adjusted to having a baby in his house and a Bronzerider hanging around because he was Inanae's dad. When Kai had found out that his mom was pregnant, he was pretty stoked to have a sibling. He wanted it to be another boy so he could have a brother who he could play with, but in the end, he got a sister instead. At first he was bummed, eventually though he accepted it. Kai and amost all is friends got to stay at Selenitas. Learning new things, playing with Ria and Teri, making mischief with the drudges, pulling girls' hair, putting frogs in inopertune places... Normal young boy things. Though his mom began teaching him things about what was going on with the world, suplimenting the history he was already learning with things that the teachers didn't tell them. As he grew he became less afraid of dragons, though his dislike of fire remained. Oh well. But what he really wanted to be was a candidate, but no one would let him because he wasn't old enough. He doesn't want to wait two and a half years to sign uuuuppp. Despite his impatience, Kai knows that there really wasn't anything he could do about it. Everyone knows him and none of the Candidatemasters could be tricked into thinking he was older. Sometimes, being the Weyrwoman's son was so frustrating! Fortunately because of Inanae, some of the spot light has shifted from him and on to her. He likes his little sister, even though she doesn't really look like him, she's just too adorable not to like. Plus her half brother is kind of cool, so, he doesn't mind when the other boy comes over to play.

Appearance: A depressing shade of blue, the base hide of this firelizard is about the same colour of the sky on grey wet days that leech the world of colour and meaning. In addition to that his hide will never show a healthy gleam, it will always remain dull so his bonded will have to watch his behaviour for clues to his health. The only part of him that will ever gleam is his single marking, a deep night blue spot, perfectly circular, right between his eyes.
His form is very nearly as unfortunate as his colour, nothing on this firelizard’s body quite matches up. His back legs are significantly longer than his front legs and actually cause him trouble in getting around on the ground. His tail is better suited to a salamandyr, being as it’s super long and skinny, and as for his head, well that’s just better suited to a bigger firelizard in general. Luckily he has so much personality that hardly anyone will notice his uninspiring looks.
Personality: With his person, and that one person alone this blue is the world’s cuddliest firelizard. If allowed he’ll spend all day, every day snuggled up to his bonded’s neck with very little time off for the other necessities of firelizard life, and if his human objects, well he’ll just spend his time butting his head against a hand, or any other convenient part, in an attempt to garner some attention. However with all other humans, this firelizard has his nose so high in the air it’s surprising he doesn’t walk into things. Prideful does not even begin to cover it. He is their lord, he is their master, it is his right, privilege, and duty to put them all in their place by ignoring or attacking as needed. Sometimes he may even do them the very great favour of allowing them to touch him, but woe betide them if they do it wrong. The Master is not above correcting his slaves with claws.
In matters of other firelizards and salamandyr company this blue isn’t nearly as picky. If it’s female, he love it, if it’s shiny and female he loves it more. If male, it has to be taught its place, right now if not sooner. Really it’s a good thing he doesn’t wander far from his human too often. When he does vanish it’s normally to engage in one of his two favourite activities. The first is chasing anything with a tail, if there’s a Flight or a Run on, he is there.
The second of his favoured pastimes is hunting with an enthusiasm that may shock the unwary. If it’s smaller than him, the same size as him, or only slightly bigger than him, he’ll have a good try at killing and eating it, even if he can’t eat the whole thing. He’s not afraid to attack predatory darters, razorclaw hatchlings, tunnelsnakes, rodents, and probably a few other things that no human has ever seen, all in the name of food and fun. Just in case his hunting skills are in doubt he’ll bring his bonded a few mutilated and partially eaten dead things, with much pride and love.
