C'loy had actually arrived early for this lesson, which never happened. He actually was unaware of whom he partnered with, he knew he had been told but he had found this rock that was so very interesting, so of course he had zoned out the weyrling master as he had examined the stone. But swimming was swimming, so C'loy had dragged his but out of bed at sunrise and towed Kallandrith to the lake.
The bronze was not exceptionally pleased about being roused so earlly, but he did not complain. The bronze padded next to his rider, muscles tensing and contracting with each step, his tail dragging on the ground behind him. When they reached the lake, Kallandrith didn't hesitate. He continued walking, not changing his gait and slid into the water. Boy, what are you waiting for? "The other weyrling pair." Kallandrith snorted, causing the water to ripple violently, but his eyes whirled a calm green, so C'loy laughed. "Sorry, if I could make them come faster, I would!" Mind you it was still very early, so their counterparts wouldn't need to be there for a while yet.
But they could hope.

Of all the ridiculous things Kyr'n thought they might be taught, swimming was not one of them. True enough they lived near a river, but why did they have to learn swimming? He was fairly confident he could manage not to drown, even if he had grown up far inland. True, he'd never actually put that to the test, but that didn't mean he was looking forward to a morning of getting himself soaked. Ironically, in this he and Yeomenth were in agreement.
The water is filthy, she complained as they trudged down to the meeting place. If I must be covered in it, I insist on being bathed afterwards. Kyr'n snorted. "I already bathed you once today. You want another bath, you can do it yourself." Yeomenth flicked her tail at him, catching his legs a little sharply. How rude, Kyr'nMine. Do you want my beautiful hide to be stained with awful mud? Before Kyr'n could snap back that he could care less and she could turn brown for all he cared, they'd arrived at the pool.
Relieved to have anyone male to talk to, even C'loy, Kyr'n trotted forward. "Good morning," he said, in a tone that said he did not think it was a 'good' morning at all. "I trust you're ready?" He didn't really bother to elaborate. They aught to both know why they were here. Yeomenth stopped at the edge of the water, sniffing it with distaste. You are so brave, Kallandrith, she crooned sweetly. You must be a magnificent swimmer. Kyr'n rolled his eyes. Flirt.

C'loy being C'loy was not able to find the irony in Kyr'n tone and replied with a chipper, "Morning!" He smiled cheerfully and inserted, "As ready as I will ever be," giving a furtive glance to the river. Cold water and the early morning did not mix as far as the blonde was concerned, and that was coming from the outdoors man.
C'loy felt Kallandrith's rumble of approval as his sister came to the water's edge. A sister was much easier to handle than a brother. Good morning sister. Kallandrith flicked his tail in the green's direction. More impatient than brave on all acounts. I should think not, but if you would come in and show me how it's done, perhaps I could learn. The bronze dragon waded further out, trailing wings leading ripples in the water. Would you like to join me? I would like to see your hide glisten in the morning sun.
C'loy watched Kallandrith apprehensively. "Do you think we should join them?" Obviously. Ignoring the bronze, the boy bent down and tested the water with his fingers. Yep, it was cold. "Hows Yeomenth doing, she looks well," he asked Kyr'n, groping for a topic of conversation. C'loy wasn't know for his communication skills.

Kyr'n shrugged, glancing at the water with a slight frown. It looked like C'loy was perky enough for the morning, though possibly even less excited about water than he was. At least they would have that in common. Kyr'n started to pull his shirt off, so at least one piece of his clothing would be dry later. He grunted with indifference. "That would be the point of the exercise," he agreed. He moved close enough to stick a foot in the water, drawing it out quickly. It was much colder than he'd expected.
Yeomenth purred appreciatively, feeling more than a little flattered. She wouldn't mind getting wet if Kallandrith thought she would look beautiful. You are too kind, Kallandrith, she answered sweetly. And I am sorry to have kept you waiting. Kyr'n snorted, but she ignored him as she slipped delicately into the water. She moved a little farther out, so that most of her her body was submerged, but claws still firmly on land. Would you like to go first? she asked politely.
"She's well enough," Kyr'n said in response to the question. He had to admit she was a rather pretty green and a large one. Not that he would ever tell her. Her ego was large enough without him stroking it. If only she wasn't female, pesky beast. Kyr'n let his feet stay in the water this time to get used to the cold, but he frowned in distaste. "Kallandrith also seems to be growing well," he added, more out of politeness than anything. He really didn't care one way or another.

Well, K'yrn was brave, why he would ever get in the water at this hour was anybody's guess, but the other weyrling was right... he would have to get in the water... eventually. The least he could do was to follow suit and strip his shirt off, if he was going to be miserably cold in the water, he'd rather not be equally miserably when he got back out. "He is, he's pretty big, getting to be a pain to oil" Kallandrith looked back at C'loy with a baleful eye.
It's no matter, you are here now. Kallandrith padded with felinesk grace through the water, enjoying the cooling sensation. I suppose I will, the bronze said before thrusting forward unexpectantly, his large girth creating a large splash as he submerged. Coming up for air, he shook his head to dislodge some of the water, and cast a glance back at C'loy. I'm sorry, did I get you wet?
C'loy was indeed soaked, before even stepping into the water. Muttering curses, the boy darted into the water and began swimming towards Kallandrith, his classmate forgotten on the shores (who was probably equally as wet at this point) as he made a beeline for the bronze. "You're going to get it." Kallandrith bulged in amusement and cast a look back at Yeomenth. I think we should try to outrun ours, they seem to not be happy with getting a refreshing soak!

Kyr'n nodded in understanding. It was already taking a while to oil Yeomenth and she was much smaller than C'loy's dragon. It still seemed unfair that C'loy had gotten such a strong male dragon and he, Kyr'n, was stuck with the arrogant female. Exact colors didn't bother him though, only the gender. If Yeomenth had been a queen, which she already seemed to think herself, Kyr'n would have felt no less disturbed at the Impression. Not that boys ever Impressed queens, thank Faranth.
Yeomenth chuckled lightly at Kallandrith's large splash. She slipped deeper into the water in a dainty fashion, hardly making more than a few small waves. She tried a few strokes, but had to work harder to get as far as her larger brother. What silly creatures, she laughed, especially at the sight of C'loy trying to chase them. Do they not know that baths are good? Why, we have them nearly every morning. She flicked a bit of water off her tail at Kyr'n who scowled darkly at her.
Kyr'n was indeed quite soaked now, and not at all pleased. True, he'd meant to get wet eventually, but Kallandrith had been awfully rude to do it without warning. "Don't think about it, Yeomenth," he scolded. "I'm quite wet enough, thank you." Wrinkling his nose as the water, he finally shrugged and waded all the way in. C'loy seemed to have forgotten him, and didn't seem that bad a swimmer. Maybe it wasn't that hard. Kyr'n made a few tentative strokes into deeper water.
