"Flights."
Elisabeta faced down her class like a firing squad, hands clasped behind her back and her hair pulled back even more severely than usual. Their run this morning had been especially punishing - it was Elisabeta's birthday, and turning a year older always put her in a bad mood. Yet the Candidatemaster hadn't even broken a sweat, although every candidate not in perfect shape (and even some that were) would be sweating through their clothes. How Elisabeta managed it was anyone's guess. Rakmaninoth skulked behind her, making the whole sight even more intimidating.
"You do not want to be in them. In fact, stay away from the flight rooms at all costs. I do not care what sort of foolish, romantic tales your Harpers told you, that is the opposite of the truth. Riders in Flightlust want nothing more than to remove you from their path, and possibly rape you on the way." The Holdbred candidates especially got significant looks here, and most, if not all, of them were holdbred. Lilu and Cainith were spared, as was Armind, for once. The rest? Not so lucky. "I won't tell you what to do if you get in the way of a flight, because you will not be in the way. Understood?" Without waiting for nods, she turned back, pacing the other way. "I am instructed to encourage those of you that are old enough to lose your virginity before impression. I remove the words 'encourage' and 'old enough' from that statement. My goal is to make sure your dragons are damaged as little as possible; not managing to lose your virginity before impression can damage your dragon. Do it. I don't care how insecure, how insufferably teenaged you are, get it done. If you are too young for sex, you are too young for a dragon.
"I hear that some of you have acquired pests, and I commend those of you who have on keeping them from being a nuisance in Lessons. However, I remind you all that Salamandyr impression is not allowed for Candidates. Their flights are comparable to Greenflights. If you have one, double your chores this week, and keep an eye out of the glow. If they are to run, you might as well use it to your advantage." And with that, the subject was closed. No discussion of healthy practices, no warnings, no request for questions. If they had questions, they could talk to others, or to Farryl. She was not their mother, she was their Master.
"Now. The rest of the lesson is focused on dragon anatomy, and since Rakmaninoth informs me that none of you have impressed her enough that she will not bite you, I have had Farryl request... volunteers." Yes, volunteers was the word, even though it sounded strange and felt stranger coming from Elisabeta's lips. Rakmaninoth? Call them, if you would. Her Green complied, growling the alert to the dragons who had agreed to help. The Whers were ignored, but those lessons would take place at night. As dragons settled in all over the training field, looking for their assigned Candidates, Elisabeta read their names off the list. "Armind, Kyrstin with Dy'shi of Blue Chakraith. Casiloy, with J'ash of... Craivaruth." She refused to say blue-green as a dragon color, it sounded so wrong. "Casandra, Ivy, Vellani with Farryl of Green Peppeth. Osnat, Lilu with R'vor of Blue Piwoth. Tavis, Kaius with Mi'rah of Bronze Kierjaarth." Folding her paper, she looked at Cainith, then swept the class as a whole. "Cainith, you will meet with Nautic of Green Nautsk at sundown. Anyone else interested in Whers should report to Swithin of Blue Swisk. In theory, all Weyrfolk of the right age may attend a Wher hatching, but if any of you believe I will allow you to insult Eikask by being unprepared you have another think coming. If you plan to stand for Whers, report to Swithin."
((There you go! I know we have some new candidates, so if they choose to attend, let me know and I will add them to a group. Your Rider or Handler will post a thread for you, so be on the lookout! Riders, please post the thread link here when you open it, if you would. Thanks again!
EDIT: Just realized the next lesson is a lesson... all about Whers. So if your Candidates attend two threads as part of this lesson (one dragon thread, one wher thread) they will ALSO get credit for the NEXT lesson. Two birds/one stone win? Cainith can attend two wher threads. If Swithin and Nautic's threads (anyone can attend either one) fill up, I'll open a Piden or Hinsero thread, so don't be shy!))
