Deceased: Died in Selenitas Earthquake Plot
Humans:
Name: L'ian
Age: 36 Turns
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Hetero
Rank: Wingrider
Physical Appearance: L'ian is a fairly tall, standing at 6'2", though he is toned and not really muscular of build, leaning towards the more leaner side while being rather weight-height proportionate in looks. His medium colored dark brown hair is often lighter, golden brown on top if he spends a lot of time out in the sun, and always has a bit of a tussled look to it. Also, he can be counted on to have at least two to four days worth of stubble on his face, since he isn't very consistent with shaving. His eyes are probably his most startling feature. They are highly expressive and a clear, penetrating blue, with slightly darker rims and lighter towards the centers. His brows with these eyes make for many obvious expressions, and though he tends to keep a straight face (or a scowl) most of the time, when he smiles he looks a totally different man. He's considered fairly handsome by some, but that stern and foreboding look he always wears makes him a little intimidating. When he smiles, however? He can be very attractive, much to many people's surprise.
His clothes are usually either neat...or a bit wrinkled and unkempt. It all depends on the occasion, and he prefers clothes that are a bit more dressy than not, even as a rider. No jewelry such as rings or whatnot adorn his being, and he's a rather simple but concise individual when it comes to his looks.
Personality: Sarcastic, morbid, moody, sardonic, imposing, bold, forthright, insensitive...these are all words that describe bluerider L'ian quite well. Really, it's as though all of Pern is against him, and he's telling them all where to shove it. His intelligence is unquestionably high, and yet he doesn't like to talk. In truth he just doesn't get along with people. He's very 'to himself' and the less he has to deal with people, the better. In fact, he acts as though he doesn't even like his dragon--though in all fairness Sevorth does like to annoy his rider, and the banter that goes on between the two is endless and age old. Seventeen years together, and one would think they'd have learned how to get along!
Still, behind that cool exterior there does--gasp!--beat a heart. It may be a few degrees colder in some aspects than that of others, but maybe it's just because he doesn't trust enough to let anyone in? Obviously he really does love Sevorth, at least. He tends to hide from the world but he never shirks the responsibilities that don't involve other people. As a Wingrider he's brave and shows courage, and he and Sevorth are finally a team that shines through even in the most unpredictable of falls. In their seventeen Turns they have had less than a handful of scorings. They are coordinated and precise beyond belief, appearing as agile as any greenrider pairing. They are poetry in motion when fighting Thread.
As for hobbies, L'ian prefers ones which don't include other people. He has his own secret passions, like playing guitar, astrology and reading. He also is an amazing cook, and sometimes late at night he'll be found in the kitchens, making this or that. He has many, many talents for a man of 36 Turns, including ones which people would not expect. He is horrible with relationships of any kind, be they with women, or just making friends. He tends to just avoid all that, disappearing for most flights, avoiding anything leading to conversation, and just keeping to himself. However, he's not a prude, and of course he hasn't been able to stop Sevorth from participating in all green flights--he just happens to not be there when the girl wakes, if he can help it. He sneaks out and avoids them like the plague until they take a hint that he isn't going to be back, if he can help it! Still, rumors of him being a very good lover float around Benden still, rumors he would deny and/or ignore, of course!
L'ian has a lot of 'walls' built up around himself. He tends to cultivate these walls so that they stay put, almost as though he's afraid of letting anyone in. Or maybe, like most people say, he just really doesn't like people. Still, if anyone ever got to know him, they'd see he does have concern for others, and though he is usually sarcastic and seems uncaring, that he can even be empathetic, to a degree. He is very giving of himself and unselfish, putting others first, and he is loyal to his Weyr and duties. These are just qualities it will take the right sort of people to get to see. Otherwise, most will continue to see him as a recluse who doesn't get along with or like anyone--including, it would seem, himself?
History: L'ian used to be Lyian, born and raised in Benden Weyr. His parents were both dragonriders and so he never really knew them, nor did it bother him in the least. From a young age he was more interested in learning and alone time than being overly social, and as he grew that only intensified. It was thought he'd be a healer or a Harper when he grew older, and right as rain he became an apprentice Healer at the age of twelve Turns. It allowed him to keep to himself and deal with his patients and learning, and he learned at an astoundingly fast rate.
L'ian would have made Journeyman if he hadn't been Searched a half a turn later, much to his dismay. However, Benden insisted that everyone stand for their clutches, and Lyian hardly expected to Impress, so he did so, all the while displeased with the idea. However, as fate would have it he impressed to blue Sevorth the first time he stood, and then his life changed completely.
It was obvious right from Weyrlinghood that he wasn't social and was not happy with his new station in life. Yes, he loved his dragon--he had no choice, as he often said, in that!--and he exceeded at Weyrling training, just like with everything else. Still, he would eat alone, and spent most of his time alone with Sevorth, never bothering to consort with the other then graduated riders unless he had to. No one could really complain since he wasn't exactly outright rude and he obeyed orders and was a great Threadfighter from the get go.
When he turned twenty five Turns he was asked to be the Candidate Master, and refused. At thirty two Turns, he might have filled the position of Weyrlingmaster, but also, again, refused. Even though these were positions of honor and prestige in Benden, anything that would have forced him out of his 'hermit' habits, he shied away from. Still, he liked to study and also helped out in the Infirmary.
There was too much pressure at Benden to take on a more prestigeous role, and so L'ian, at thirty-five turns, asked to be transferred to Selenitas, a Weyr where no one knew him and it was smaller and he could keep to himself. However, he negated to mention to anyone any of his other skills that could be put to use, in case it resulted in him being forced to work more with others.
His stay at Benden involved working in the Infirmary and doing everything possible to avoid the battles between Benden and Fort. He was always 'missing' or 'on infirmary' duty, thanks to being such a recluse, and therefor what happened at Benden bothered him not in the least. It was only when he came to Selenitas that he felt anything one way or the other about Benden. He was there for the Seige.
Benden's unwarranted attack of Selenitas had a rather sobering effect on L'ian. He was angry and disgusted that they'd make such an unprecedented attack on the Weyr, and all over what? Because one of their Queens had sought safety and they'd been kindly enough to take her in? He'd never liked the leaders of Benden, and had often gotten into heated debates with the ones who prepared the drugs for the clutches about the risks they took, the wrong they were doing. It was a large part of why he left--that and though it was taught to him that women were inferior, he doesn't really agree with that, either, or the sexism at Benden.
He saw many die and though he was working with the infirmary team to save as many lives as possible, he was still rather shaken, if only inwardly notable, by the deaths and violence. Dragons fought dragons and men and women killed each other. No one was spared, not the children, women or men. Fort then got involved as well, much to his displeasure, and he's starting to believe Selenitas is the only 'decent' Weyr left on Pern.
Dragons/Whers/Fire Lizards/Salamandyrs:
Name: Sevorth
Color: Blue
Age: 17 Turns
Physical Appearance: Sevorth is not small for a blue, and ranks up there with the biggest of them. He has a wide chest which tapers down into a thinner waist, muscular hind legs and a tail which is a bit over long, wings that are tapered and large. He is a lithe and toned dragon, lacking the bulk of a bronze but definitely muscled for a blue.
In color, Sevorth is a dark, dark blue, reminding one of an almost black night sky overhead. Blue-black is the best way to describe his coloration, making him nearly invisible in the night sky or in the forests. Still, underneath his maw, neck, stomach and tail, the color fades to a lighter, clear night sky blue, and underneath his wings is the same color...though with white-blue speckles that look almost like stars. Really he is a handsome devil of a dragon, and knows it! L'ian would call it overconfident but Sevorth knows it to be true.
Personality: It takes quite a dragon to be able to keep up with a rider like L'ian, so Sevorth has grown to be just that! Witty and with a sarcasm that matches that of his rider, Sevorth is the friendlier of the pair by far. He isn't really a socialite, but he can hold a conversation with others, flirts with the greens, and above all? Loves to harass and torture his rider. Their witty banter and insults to one another is purely normal for them by now--they've been at it seventeen Turns, after all! Sevorth has a better memory than most dragons due to his Turns with L'ian. He may not seem it but he is his rider's equal in brains, and better socially than his rider by far. He doesn't lack in confidence, in fact, he seems at times to have a bit too much!
In Threadfall Sevorth is a demon with L'ian on his back. Tactical and intelligent, the pair have been through some of the worst falls un-scored. After all, they spend every day with a practice session, even after seventeen Turns at it. They prepare for anything, have been through a lot, and generally they are something fantastic to see in the skies. Sevorth is no small blue, but he's agile and well-practiced at what he does, so that he has the stamina of a smaller brown but the agility of a medium sized or larger green. He prides himself in his Thread fighting abilities, and in any flight he can participate in, he really shines through. Sevorth loves nothing more than flying, and it shows.
