Deceased: Died in Selenitas Earthquake Plot
Humans:
Name: Jaira
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Rank: Candidate/ Journeyman fisher second mate
Physical Appearance: Jaira is a girl of medium height, at about 5'7", and has the dark hue of someone who started out with olive skin and then spends every day in the sun. She is well built, and while she purposefully avoids muscularity there is no denying the defining curves in her arms, thighs, and back from her work.
Her eyes border on mahogany, and her hair is a black that is (at least according to her) obnoxiously curly. She lets it grow out no longer then her shoulder blades, and at that point chops it off to her ears to let it begin the process over again. Her facial features are surprisingly delicate for her body being anything but.
Her hands and feet are calloused from her work, she could parade down a beach made of pointy rocks and not notice a thing. She prefers lighter clothes, greens, blues, and yellows. What types of clothing she’ll wear depends purely on her mood. Her closet consists of every possible style, just in case she feels it is the day appropriate to that look. Obviously when she's working her clothes style won't vary so much, but the colors might be just as bright.
Personality: Jaira working and Jaira off work are too different subjects. While working in her field of expertise Jaira is commanding, authorative, she understands what is occurring around her, what needs to happen, and how to do it. For this same reason she only works well under someone she trusts and has seen do efficient, good work. Without this assurance she feels as if her skills are being misused, and will subtly try to make improvements in the “sloppy” or “unskillful” managing of her superior. This can lead to confrontation, and soon after a Jaira who is storming off a ship, swearing to never work under that particular shipmaster again. However, those working under her normal status of second mate, especially the apprentices, will admit that she is a good teacher, even if she’ll oftentimes bribe her way out of gutting fish by agreeing not to reveal to the captain an apprentices’ mistake. Once she was exposed to dragons she also developed a tendency to refer to dragons in sailor’s lingo, which occasionally has interesting results, especially the tendency to call all of them “she”.
Jaira off work is shyer, especially around men. Not because she is sexist, or intimidated by them, she simply has a harder time connecting with them in a social manner off of a ship. Women she treats with the upmost respect, she holds doors open for them, always lets them go first, and any girl she is interested in will find herself drowned in gifts. On the rare occasion she is interested in a man romantically, she will let herself be treated romantically, but her tendency to want to woo him back like he’s actually female still remains. She is easily irritated, or frustrated, but prefers not to show it in social arenas. If she has a serious issue with someone she will find them when they’re alone, corner them, and solve it, sometimes in a rather loud manner.
Beyond her craft Jaira enjoys working with wood; carving miniatures of ships she has sailed on or people she has met. She has tried carving miniature dragons before as well, but hasn’t been up close enough to one to place the details correctly. These she often gives to her younger sister Ryli as toys.
History: She was born in 2997, to a family in Southern Hold who had been fisherman for generations, and had every intention of continuing that tradition whether it be by male or female offspring. She was to be the first of (currently) four children, two boys now aged 15 and 13, and one more girl now aged 8. Her father was a master fisherman, respected throughout Southern Hold for his ability to read the sea and the skies to predict the fish’s moods, and whether a particularly bad storm would soon be approaching.
As Jaira entered into the family business at the early age of seven it was hoped she would inherit her father’s wisdom, and to everyone’s delight she was a fast learner. Unfortunately, she was also stubborn and picky about her teacher. When her father was gone on week or month long sailing trips and she couldn’t go with him little Jaira would sit at the piers and refuse to listen to her teachers, waiting for him to return so he and only he could teach her more.
Eventually, around 9, she outgrew this when she met a journeyman fisher who showed her through his own work how you could learn even from teachers you didn’t like, specifically on what not to do. Jaira grew older, passing through puberty and into young adulthood. Her oldest brother, Samor, went an alternative path and apprenticed in forestry, but he and Jaira get along excellently as she uses his new connections to try and get the best supplies for whatever ship she is working on. Jaira was promoted to journeyman seaman at 15, and is now a journeyman second mate.
Jaira has been consciously aware of dragon kinds general existence since she was a pre-teen and thread fell once more, but has always regarded the dragon riders profession as equal to her own, not superior. Simply sailing the skies and braving thread, instead of sailing the seas and braving storms.

[X] By checking this box, I am saying that I have read the Rules and History, and will follow them.
Other: So, with the history section I would love some help considering the unique back story of Selenitas and the general area, and how southern hold was affected by it all.
