E'ri frowned as he watched Cezine looking at Z'hin. His dislike seemed to just grow of the young brownrider. Why was his weyrmate looking at him like that? The seed of discomfort settled into his stomach, red-hot. But it was probably nothing. Maybe she was just checking him out? But he didn't get it. Z'hin wasn't handsome. Still, even if Cezine was merely checking him out, why was she so anxious at suddenly seeing himself?! His eyes searched her own, noting how they flickered back over to Z'hin. "You'll be fine," he repeated, somewhat coldly. What on Pern made her think that staring at Z'hin was all right with him? They were weyrmates. Weyrmates weren't supposed to stare at other people like that. They were supposed to be monogamous, devoted to one another... not staring at stupid brownriders. Perhaps he was being oversensitive. But Mal had never done anything like that...
She is not her, Bazeth said firmly. E'ri folded his arms, focusing his eyes on Ka'rys. But his thoughts were elsewhere.
It's still foolish to be eyeing someone like that when you're weyrmated, though, he replied angrily. How would you feel if Brennath cuddled with a different dragon?
Bazeth didn't respond, and E'ri knew that had struck a nerve. He wasn't possessive, but he did like being the only one intimate enough with Brennath to cuddle her. Cuddling was something reserved for only the dragons he was closest with. He would undoubtedly be hurt if he saw Brennath lavishing affection on some other male. He suddenly had the desire to cuddle with his green as soon as the drills were over. Would you like to sun with me later? he asked, hiding the discomfort he felt from his rider.
E'ri, meanwhile, listened to what Ka'rys was saying. Looking around briefly at the other members of his wing, he frowned. There were a lot of fresh riders, which could be bad-- well, not bad necessarily, but they were still inexperienced. One could be the best in the weyrling class but still be petrified at their first Threadfall. Hopefully, the practice would help a lot with that. He shook his head at Ka'rys' call for questions. He was eager to get this started. Maybe it would take his mind off things.
