R’aro took the chance t look around while Ka’rys was speaking. Motley crew was probably the right way to describe the wing. Their wingleader wasn’t a man R’aro was particularly familiar with, but he seemed steady enough, apart from being touchy about what he could and couldn’t do with a broken ankle it appeared. R’non, well R’aro would probably always bear some enmity for the former junior weyrleader, a man who betrayed Selenitas to Benden. The fact that he’d betrayed Benden right back didn’t sit easy with the young bronzerider either, he was of a mind to believe that meant R’non was doubly treacherous rather than a man who had a change of heart at the last minute.
As for the wingriders, R’aro was prepared to admit he didn’t know any of them that well. Alicia he knew a little from her time teaching candidates, she was perfectly willing to admit her Tanith had a mean streak and the rider didn’t seem all that friendly herself. Wynmuri seemed all right, she and her green would be experienced in threadfall at least. R’aro’s eyes slid over the other two greenriders in the wing He couldn’t say he knew much of them either beyond that Ciara had just had a baby. Llath seemed eager to be off at least but was excitable all she was?
E’yan, yet another R’aro knew little of, and never did the bronzerider regret his lack of knowledge about the majority of these riders more than now, beyond that he could sing, which did not seem pertinent just now. Z’hin had been off on the mission of late and if R’aro had heard aught of the brownrider he couldn’t bring it to mind, his impression of the man now was that he was no more enthralled with his wingmates than R’aro himself. E’rro, he’d come from Benden, from that children’s wing thing that had been involved in the attack just after R’aro had arrived. Well that was in the past, which was a very good place for it.
Then of course there was R’aro himself, fresh out of weyrlinghood and as green as summer grass. If only it didn’t take so long to get experience…
‘Not very much sir. I can wrestle a bit but not seriously, and use a dagger and sling but I’m far more used to hunting and driving away predators than actually fighting. The only real experience I’ve got came from that mess with Benden not long after I arrived here.’ R’aro wince slightly as his answer got slightly long winded but he wanted to be accurate, better to admit his inability now than have a lie come back to bite him in the butt later.
