When Instincts Collide (Reysalth's Flight)

Laurie knelt calmly in the middle of the room, her hands folded demurely in her lap. Reysalth had fallen asleep in the middle of the day. Now, Reys never did that, and she'd been proddy for long enough that Lauranna knew what that meant. About an hour, maybe two, and then the green would take to the skies again. Reysalth had been rising for over twelve turns now, and the greenrider was both weyrbred and generally unflappable when it came to this sort of thing. Why would she get her panties all in a bunch over a free tumble with a possible stranger? You get the enjoyment of a little diversity, without the responsibility. Nothing wrong with that. And of course it would be fun to wake up to F'rah again if it came to that...although...Reysalth wasn't particularly known for always choosing her weyrmate. The green was rather fickle.

The restlessness that indicated her mindmate was close to waking made Laurie giggle a little to herself. She'd taken her hours and used them in the way she'd been using most of her free time lately - to primp. The greenrider was in a lightweight shift that clung to every curve of her frame, so short it barely covered her kneeling as she was. Nor did she wear a stitch of clothing beneath it. In fact, her trek to the Flightroom had been ever so amusing, Laurie rolling her hips a little more than absolutely necessary as she walked, a knowing smile greeting the blatant stares of men and women alike. There was just something about loose, clingy material that seemed far more provocative than simply walking around stark naked. Her hair had been let down and carefully brushed to a shining luster, the curls spilling over her shoulders and nearly touching the ground in her kneeling position.

Right in the center of the Flightroom. Waiting. Waiting for Reysalth to waken, and for her lovely males to come to her. Laurie smiled.

The green wakened to a burning need, her eyes flaring in a swift, swirling purple. She stalked along her weyrledge, flashing her wings out, then folding them again, almost as if in a nervous gesture. Every muscle and nerve in her body was screaming at her to fly, to throw herself from the ledge and charge blindly toward Rukbat, leading her bevy of hopefuls straight up through the atmosphere in a primal dance that would last forever. Turning her head, she hissed at all the greens who watched, daring them to challenge her beauty, to try to steal her males from her. Reysalth owned the weyr at this moment. She would Fly, and they would Chase, because, for this moment in time, she was their queen. And who would want anyone else?

The small green glowed like a brilliant emerald, lit from within, a beacon on her weyrledge, flashing with every movement of her wings. Then she could not restrain herself anymore. She cried sharply in open challenge and flung herself into a dive at the same time, streaking down the cliff face to try to catch the attention of any male stupid enough not to notice already. Down at a stunning pace, the rock wall zipping past her. Then she tucked a wing, swerved, bellied out, and rushed over the ground with the momentum from the dive powering her, taking her over the water and spraying her with water droplets.

Another jubilant scream, laced with impatience. She wasn't about to wait forever. If they didn't respond immediately, they'd be left behind! The trees rushed up before her, and Reysalth angled sharply upward, crashing through the leaves and spraying branches in all directions as her lithe, glowing figure twisted upward, silhouetting itself against the mid-afternoon sun. Reysalth competed with the bright light - and won, hissing at Rukbat for even attempting to outshine her. Silly celestial body.

Ch'ero was calmly sitting with his dragon in their weyr, the brown napping beside him. The great brute couldn't sleep without Ch'ero next to him until he fell asleep. Rosilinth's weird little quirk didn't bother his Rider at all though. They were lifemates and would do anything for each other. The brown had been sleeping long enough that Ch'ero could leave the weyr now if he chose to but the short brownrider didn't feel like it.

The minutes passed and Ch'ero considered falling asleep propped against the smooth hide of his dragon. This was not to be though. The sudden challenging bugle of a green sent chills down his spine. As Rosilinth shifted in his sleep Ch'ero prayed he'd stay asleep. Shh, sleep Rosi. All is well. The attempt to keep the brown asleep was futile. At first the brown opened sleepy green-blue eyes, but as he woke up more they quickly shifted to a lustful purple.

Reysalth, beautiful Reysalth Flies! Rosilinth said simply. He pulled himself to his feet, pushing Ch'ero out of his way while he did it. The brownrider shook his head and asked, "I'm not going to be able to stop you, am I?" Reysalth will be mine! That answered that question. Rosilinth moved to the edge of his weyr and launched himself into the air. Ch'ero watched the brown fly towards Reysalth for a moment before being overcome by Flight Lust. He must find His!

Rosilinth Chased his green, his Reysalth above her, watching and waiting for her to head upwards and into the heavens. There! As she shot upwards, Rosilinth followed his gorgeous green queen of the skies. He didn't care if he had competition for Reysalth for she would be his and he would be hers! Her shimmering form enticed him to go faster. As the brown Chased his green. Ch'ero was drawn to the Flightroom. There he found his Lauranna, kneeling prettily in the center of the room and the center of his attention. He approached as closely as he dared, his world revolving around her like Pern revolved around Rubat.

The fallow brown dragon and his young looking Rider were trapped in the female pair's deadly spell, dancing to the beat they had chosen. Each longed for their bright beauty that gleamed temptingly nearby. Joined together in Flight Lust, the four of them were destined for each other. The brown pair were determined to catch green Reysalth and Lauranna in body and spirit!

Reysalth is Rising.

T’rid blinked warily at Corinth, who had spoken in dead calm tones, his head turned to watch said green ascending into the skies. His mental voice held polite interest. The Bronzerider frowned. And…? he pressed. Did Corinth really think he needed to be kept up-to-date on every Greenflight?

She is very pretty, said the bronze.
I take it you want to Chase? asked T’rid, groaning mentally. He was all up for Flights, sure, but if Corinth so much as let it slip that this Greenrider was a…and then he remembered who Reysalth was Impressed to. Laurie. Of course. Corinth rumbled in quiet assent. “So, ah, why are you still in here, as opposed to out there?” T’rid queried, raising one eyebrow at the bronze.

Still that irritatingly calm voice. You are leaning on my tail, and I believe my chances would be higher if you were in the flightrooms with head intact as opposed to in here with a concussion.

“Ah.” T’rid frowned, sliding off of Corinth’s tail, and then heading for the Weyr. “Just don’t get too carried away and hurt someone, hmm?” And then the Dragonlust exploded inside of him and he groaned in dismay. Corinth just had to let it out now? The bronze was already out of the Weyr, though, sweeping into the sky, his bronze wings unfurled to their full extent, bugling to Reysalth exultantly as he flipped in the air for her, pausing to hiss at the brown.

What was he doing here? Didn’t he know that Reysalth was his, and only his? He wasn’t going to share this glowing beauty! Then, forgetting instantaneously about the brown—he was just there, that was all; there was no way Reysalth would pick him over Corinth—the latter bronze bugled again, and angled himself after Reysalth, determination glittering fiercely in his purple eyes.

T’rid, meanwhile, was muttering to himself, probably nothing that anyone would like to hear, as he trotted hurriedly towards the flightrooms. What was it about Corinth’s timing that bothered him? Flightlust was not known for being particularly easy to think through, and unless T’rid was very much mistaken, it would be a while before he could find his shining green beauty.

Oh.

Clearly by accident and pure dumb luck, T’rid found himself inside of a flightroom, blinking at the dazzling beauty of his green, kneeling in the room. And what was that stupid brown doing there?! The young man hissed, his lip curling indignantly in his snarl. He didn’t deserve to be here. Besides, Reysalth was his. And this impertinent brown was getting very, very close to her.

Dangerously close.

T’rid would have gone for his knife had he not discarded his tunic for the heat back in the Weyr. Shard that. He ignored the brown, moving quickly towards Laurie and stopping a few meters away, his voice rising in a croon. His green beauty had to choose him. There was no one else worthy of being picked.

Broad leaves slapped against leather-clad legs as a certain lithe and quick figure darted through the depths of the jungle. The thud of racing footfalls accompanied the whoosh of wings from above as Dramuth glided leisurely above the jungle treetops. It was ritual, something that he and His did every single day, usually at the same time but it could and did vary. The brown glanced down just in time to see his rider launch herself into the air at the edge of a deep, narrow ravine. For an instant, it almost looked as if she was flying, truly flying without Dramuth’s wings, her own arms spread wide at her sides before they came together and folded over her head, her body becoming tucked into a neat, almost perfectly round ball as she impacted with the ground on the other side. But she didn’t even seem to slow down, much less stop as she rolled right to her feet and popped up, still running at the same breakneck pace as before.

That was when the calls reached Dramuth, and the brown cast about to see. Mine, above. Aryna came to a halt and immediately looked up, wisps of her loosened plait swaying in the breeze. At first she didn’t see anything, and a frown marred the young woman’s features. But then, through a break in the canopy, she saw a flash of green dart past. Another Flight. A slow smile spread across her face as she felt the first inklings of lust from her brown’s mind.

Give me a head start. Even before Dramuth rumbled his assent, his rider dashed off, following the vaguely beaten path back toward the Weyr. By the time she reached the river, Dramuth was answering Reysalth’s cries with bugles of his own as he darted up into the skies. There were already two others chasing her, and he couldn’t afford to give His much more of a head start if he had any hopes of catching this lovely green for himself. Another brown and a bronze had taken it upon themselves to fly after her, which meant Dramuth had his work cut out for him. But as he rose into the air, he made certain that Reysalth saw him, knew that he was definitely in this and he wasn’t quitting till she’d Chosen, be it him or one of the others.

Aryna had barely enough time to find the proper Flight room before her dragon’s lust completely enveloped her mind. And there they were, two men already circling the object of their desire like wherries about to pounce on a newly hatched nest of firelizards. Well, Reysalth was a lovely green, a brilliant beauty in every sense of the word, and she would see that only he would do. Aryna sauntered closer, her footsteps soft and her pale gray eyes half-lidded as she made her way toward the group. Those others couldn’t be closer than she was after all. And Aryna just wouldn’t be Aryna if she couldn’t start something… even lost in Flight lust.

Afternoon flights were not K'von's favorite, but given that both brown and rider had slept in a bit that morning, it made it a necessity. Their activity had been a lazy glide over the jungle, both dragon and rider enjoying the momentary peace and lack of disturbances. Oh, K'von quite loved having someone on his mind--and his body, as crude as that thought was--but there came a time when a man needed a little space to think, and he and Dohulth had snatched that little bit of alone time for a flight every day. Today, they were just... later than usual.

Dohulth had just settled down onto his weyrledge and was patiently waiting for his rider to dismount when a familiar instinct had him whipping his gray-brown head around, eyes flaring a bright violet. Ahh... he knew that feeling! He had been watching her since the wing drills, and he curved his neck as he heard and saw the green issue her challenge and throw herself off her weyrledge, rumbling deep in his chest at the appreciation of the fine sight. Oh, she was a fine specimen of mature green, and the instinct to Chase was just too strong to ignore. He impatiently shifted his weight from foot to foot as K'von took his sweet time in dismounting and unbuckling the straps. Mine, you will hurry, or I will Chase Reysalth's with you still attached. the brown said with an uncharacteristic show of impatience. It had been a long, long time since he had Flown. Chased often. Flown rarely, and he wanted.

K'von, lost in his own thoughts, had failed to notice Dohulth's interest until the brown was kind enough to point it out. The brownrider was startled and mouthed soundlessly for a moment. His hand was finally well enough that bandages and stitches were gone. It was weak and would need more rehabilitation, but he had been dutifully working on slowly getting it back to normal... or as normal as it could get. That--and a certain lust-inducing dragonhealer--had had his mind fully occupied until his dragon pointed out his desire to Chase. It was only after the brownrider took the straps and stepped back that his mind fully kicked into gear, and he let out a combination of exasperated groan and lustful moan. Of course, Dohulth would want to Chase that green...

Well, being weyrbred and as easygoing as he was, he was scarcely about to protest the fact that his brown was about to get airborne again... this time in pursuit. In fact, he was quite excited about it when he heard the brown's bellowing acceptance of the challenge and then heard and felt the explosion of wings as Dohulth arched his back and threw himself into the air with surprising speed. That short little exercise run had just been a warm-up. Now he was ready for some real flying, and even if he was a little slower on the draw, owing to his rider's idiocy, his enthusiasm and oversized wings had him soaring toward the glowing beacon of a green in record time. There were other males already in pursuit, but Dohulth's first priority was to dip his wings in a salute to the beauty that was Reysalth, crooning as he followed her up. She had challenged him... and he was quite willing to meet her, gorgeous and clever and mature green that she was!

K'von had enough sense to set aside his riding straps and gear in his weyr before making for the Flightrooms at a light jog. He was not the first to arrive, and there were already two men and... a woman? Ah! The female brownrider!... present. He was undeterred though and made straight for Laurie, dropping to his knees a safe and proper distance away to look at her, eyes fairly alight with excitement. She was such a little tease... and an attractive one so that any remaining hesitations he had were quickly pitched aside. Dohulth's lust for the beautiful green was making K'von see her rider in an even better light, and he made a noise of appreciation at her choice of attire... or, really, lack thereof, for the most part. He leaned forward a bit, hands resting on his thighs as he watched her. He was not the type to stand and circle... or just stand. No, he liked to pick a spot, make a pose, and make it known that he was here and he was interested. Even as he was largely lost to Dohulth's lust, he was aware of his rivals for her attention and affection, but that hardly dissuaded him. His focus was entirely on her....

Reysalth's lungs exploded with another cry, acknowledging her pursuers as they came, one by one, to attempt to prove their worth. She brought her wings in tighter, with shorter strokes, throwing herself into a tighter spin as she climbed, before suddenly folding in half and plummeting down toward the first the answer her call, a lovely, mature brown. The green adjusted course, making her dive more shallow as she neared him. Her approving croon was just barely audible at the speed in which she passed him. The first would always receive special consideration when it came time to Choose! He was large though, poor thing, and that might make things difficult for him. Reysalth was one of the smallest greens within the weyr. Still, if he tried hard...

She flipped, speeding off on a line perpendicular to the ground, her underbelly presented to the rival celestial body above. Reysalth twisted around the looping form of the great bronze who had dared to join. Brave creature. Most didn't think to chase what they had little hope of catching and, ironically, that built him up in her mind. But then he hissed at the first of her suitors, and she hissed in return, deciding he wasn't so much fun to play with after all. Silly beast. If he didn't know to keep his eye on the prize, he would surely lose it! Reysalth peeled away, her tail lashing out at him as she turned her attention to one perhaps more worthy.

The bass bugles rolled through the trees, a reddish-brown more the size she was used to coming from upriver. Oh, she saw him. Returning his call, the female dipped below the treeline to skim along the water in her rush to meet him, darting back up occasionally to be sure he saw her. In a matter of seconds she'd closed the distance. Green and brown passed so close to one another she could feel the wind off his wingstrokes, Reysalth letting out a strident call and shooting back up toward the skies, leaving a croon for the male who had traveled so far in her wake. She played in and out of the cloud wisps, enjoying the feel of speed, of each powerful stroke of her wings, though she didn't yet employ the clouds in anything but a teasing manner. She wanted them all to see her!

Oh, lovely! Another brown was rising belatedly from the weyr far below, and she noticed the salute he offered on the heels of his bellow. What irritation might have been there from how long he'd taken to join was quickly replaced by a smug joy. Here was one who knew how to treat the queen of Selenitas! Reysalth slid downwards, moving to greet this most recent of her chasers with a rumbling growl that was more like a purr, wing tip flipping out to trail along his side before she clamped her wings tight to her body, lashing her tail to throw her to one side and downward in another tight barrel roll. Reysalth descended quickly, through the rising curtain of water spray that surrounded the falls. The green pulled out of her dive just above the trees, each wingstroke barely missing the topmost branches as she flitted along the course of the river and toward the sea in the distance.

Footsteps. Her eyes rose, a small, mischievous smile on her lips, the smile warm with welcoming to the first who came to her. Ah, to be first. She extended her arm to Rosilinth, palm up, the arm retracting with each step that brought him closer, as if she were drawing him in. He was the sprite to her faerie, and she crooned to him. Yes. Come, lovely. Closer. Her hand fell back to her knees as he stopped advancing, her eyes flicking toward the man who followed on Rosilinth's heels. Bronze. The small blonde's back straightened slightly, eyes flashing with something like smug pride. Look who couldn't resist her! A pup, but no matter.

The eyes flashed with something else entirely the moment he let his attention waver to Rosilinth. Growling low in her throat, she snatched up one of the shoes she'd kicked off the moment she came to kneel here in the Flightroom and whipped it at his chest. A soft shoe, certainly, but it should get her point across. Tossing her head, her curls swirled around her shoulders, the woman's gaze narrowed to a piercing glare for a moment more before she pointedly looked away from Corinth. Rivals or no, Reysalth was the one he must impress, and she was a jealous creature.

Reysalth turned the brilliance of her grin back on Rosilinth, partly to continue to display her annoyance at Corinth, but mostly because he was a lovely thing. She hoped he might prove himself. Just as her eyes settled on his, though, she spotted a slinking figure, her head tilting to one side in open curiosity. Female. No, male. Dramuth. Lovely, supple Dramuth. Leaning forward, she arched her back, beckoning this third rival closer with a finger. Yes, she loved to be surrounded by her admirers, to be worshiped. She was Reysalth, after all, and if she didn't want to be touched, to be caught, they could not do so. The close proximity did not bother her.

And another, approaching swiftly. Her welcoming smile faltered as he dropped to his knees, though, momentarily confused, but then it grew broader. Ah. He came as supplicant. She liked that. Unable to contain her excitement, she rose, looking to all of hers with a knowing little smirk. The filmy material shifted against her bare skin as she took a step toward Rosilinth, trailing a finger along his bicep before standing in front of Corinth. The small woman rose on tiptoe, her chin tilting up, body leaning forward...but no! She ducked away from him before he could touch, willing to forgive but still having not forgotten how he seemed to think Rosilinth was more important. Her steps took her toward Dramuth, insinuating past him with a casual brush of the hip before she came to Dohulth.

Reysalth smiled down at him - though it wasn't very far down, admittedly - before running a finger beneath his chin and drawing him up, wishing for him to stand. She winked and faded back into the center of the four vying for her attention, stretching cattishly and pushing her breasts against the airy material of her shift, regarding their reactions from behind lowered lashes.

This time, C'le knew what was coming. Not that he didn't recognize the tenseness that any male dragon felt just before a flight... it was just that he was ready this time. As soon as he saw Enouth head for the Weyrledge, C'le himself headed out the door. There was no point delaying now that he knew where the flightrooms were, and he wasn't so distracted. He hurried, of course, knowing that flightlust would hit him any moment- and he'd rather not be in the middle of a busy corridor when that happened.

But... it didn't. He was outside the door, about to enter, when he realized that he was still firmly grounded in his own mind. Had Enouth somehow chosen not to rise? C'le figured he would have been informed if that were the case. So he sought out his dragon's mind, trying to figure out what was going on.

Enouth was still on the ledge, bony wings folded tight to his sides, caught somewhere in the middle of the action of leaving the ledge. Reysalth was there, waiting... but as soon as C'le actively touched his lifemate's mind, he knew the problem. This was a green, yes- but look at the dragons that had risen to her challenge! Three browns and a bronze. Although Enouth would have been considered a large blue if he weren't so starved-thin, he was intimidated. Was there something special about this green? Was he for some reason not allowed to chase her?

Without words, C'le assured his blue that this couldn't be so, that the other blues were simply busy or out of the Weyr. Many were probably on search, he reasoned, like C'le and Enouth themselves would be once they were approved as Searchriders. Enouth took heart from that- and realized that Reysalth was fast, nearly as fast as Enouth himself was. Browns and Bronzes were- or at least could be- slow, and it appeared that already, in the first few seconds of the Flight, Reysalth was flying circles around them.

That was all it took. Still standing in the corridor, C'le-Enouth shook as flightlust ripped through him, three times as strong due to the delay. At the same moment, Enouth himself dropped off the ledge, announcing his entry and apologizing for his tardiness in one thin bugle, nicely matching the emaciated dragon. Both pieces of the now-joined mind lunged forward, Enouth surging upwards and into a front triple-flip to slow his descent, avoid the dangerous buffet of the green's passing, and send him spiraling in the right direction, along the line of the river, trying to stay below or ahead of the pack so as to avoid the wind of their passing, C'le-Enouth through the door, freezing just inside to offer Reysalth's the opportunity to judge him, to tell whether his late arrival was approved of or not. No thought of the rider's gender crossed his mind- as C'le had discovered during his first flight at Selenitas, not knowing the gender of the rider beforehand meant that he didn't have to worry about the nerves and discomfort that usually went along with Enouth chasing a female with a female rider. The rider WAS Reysalth, with no residual human judgements overlaid. Enouth wanted Reysalth, so C'le wanted Reysalth. Whether Reysalth's was a he or a she didn't even cross his mind.

Rosilinth crooned in appreciation of Reysalth's aerial acrobatics. Every movement she made only served to make the big brown want her more. Such a perfect, lovely green she was! The response from her made him follow her dive, folding his wings close and performing a small spin. The queen of his world had captured his full attention. No other dragon could possibly be of more importance to him right now than the brilliant Reysalth. If she wanted him to try harder he had but one choice: comply. Her wish was his.

Again Rosilinth didn't drop all the way down to her altitude. He followed behind her on a higher perpendicular line, ignoring the bronze as she neared him. It was Resyalth he had eyes for only. He could see his opposition but they meant nothing to Rosilinth when he was the one who would Fly Resysalth! Suddenly they were going up again, Rosilinth was amused with her use of the clouds to taunt him. He let out another bugle as the pale coloured brown angled towards Pern to Chase his beloved Reysalth.

The brown felt the gentle mist from the watefall on his hide, making his purple eyes whirl faster in excitement. Rosilinth's large shadow passed over the land, the powerful strokes from his wings creating a big enough gust to rustle the trees. His bulk may be slowing him down but he could never just give up his green lady, his shimmering Reysalth to another dragon. Never!

Rosilinth saw the smile, the beckoning hand and nearly went all the way to her had he not been certain she was the queen and he was simply her pawn or her knight. Reysalth would not simply be Caught, no...she'd be the one to Choose. She was the one to impress. Rosilinth had to stay positive. Who else but he would she Choose? The knight always won the fair maiden's heart. He would not settle with simply being her pawn. It already seemed like the bronze had lost her favor as the shoe soared through the air at him. As Reysalth honoured him with another look, Rosilinth smiled back flirtatiously.

The special attention he received was short lived but he didn't mind. Soon enough he'd have her all to himself. Rosilinth was very single minded in his quest for the green. He shivered in excitement as she rose, the touch eliciting a playful, throaty growl from him as she passed. Rosilinth followed her graceful motion around the room. He couldn't help but move closer at her display, taking one, two, three steps before stopping and grinning coyly.

Dohulth was a patient creature, and thus he was not too anxious when the agile, speedy little beauty took her time in greeting her other suitors first. Granted, the second male to take to the air--a bronze, he noted with some curiosity--was not on the receiving end of a great deal of affection, and he could scarcely blame their little queen for disliking his behavior. Many males liked to intimidate rivals in Flight, but Dohulth was not among them, if only because it was not in his nature to take his eyes from the creature that so obviously held his interest. His eyes whirled a brilliant purple with lust, neck arched as he watched her flirt closely with another of the browns. She was dancing amongst the dainty wisps of clouds, it seemed, and he crooned lightly to affirm that while her agility was enticing, he would rather the view not be blocked. Such an attractive thing should not be hidden from view!

Oh, but she was going to pay attention to him, and he gave her a low rumble of appreciation, tilting his head to better see her as she got up close to him. The growl could have been intimidating had it not inspired him to arch his neck at the realization that she was not shoving him aside. His lateness was not being held against him--yet--and he crooned in thanks, his eyes whirling quicker for a moment as a wingtip trailed across his side. Then she was away, and he angled his body after her, angling his wings to let him slide into a comfortable distance near to her. She was a quick one!

A thin little bugle echoed, and Dohulth had to wonder if a very young weyrling had decided to join in. He would have looked to investigate, but, frankly, Reysalth was far too beautiful a sight to turn from. She was stunningly radiant, and even the glaring sun overhead could not compete with her for brilliance. His dive was shallower than hers by a bit, given his much greater wingspan and larger size, but his enthusiasm was not dimmed by his inability to skim the treetops. He could not win her over with agility, but he could appeal to her still. He side-slipped a bit in the air to put himself off to the side and not directly behind her. Perhaps she could see him from here, and he let out a low-pitched rumble deep in his chest, flaring out his wings and tilting his body from side to side as one wing and then the other dipped in rhythm to make sure she got a good look... if she wanted it. He was not a lazy, idle dragon, no. He was young--the gray of his hide was not indicative of age, oh no!--and quite fit, and he would do his very best to keep up with skies' queen!

Reysalth seemed a bit confused by his gesture at first, but then she seemed to understand that he was not about to stand and circle like a predator. No, he was putting himself near to her, on level with her, and she seemed to realize that he was not trying to crowd by to appeal. His chest puffed out a bit, though he lowered his head and shoulders lightly in what could have been a bow of sorts. In reality, it was something more like an apology for his tardiness. Oh, he knew that he should not have taken so long, but she had been so far away! He did have to make a noise of fervent appreciation of her beauty, though, as she rose to her feet and the material of her... outfit... moved. His eyes darkened, widened, lips parting slightly as he stared adoringly at the little beauty. Little, yes... oh, so little! But so beautiful, still, and he wished he could touch her, stroke her, to assure her beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was gorgeous beyond measure.

But... she was moving away to see the others, and he just watched her, just waiting for her to circle back to him. She had not sent him away, so surely he could not be ignored! She was touching and teasing the others, and he wanted to nuzzle that hand that came beneath his chin to urge him to his feet. Rise, he did, getting fluidly to his feet despite his height and frame. If she wanted him up, then up he would be. Granted, up was never a problem, but- he was getting ahead of himself again. He needed to focus, and his attention centered again on the beautiful little flirt that was stretching in the midst of her foursome of suitors. She must know have known what a desirable creature she was, and it took much of K'von's will to keep himself from lifting his hands to touch those breasts that pushed so teasingly against the flimsy material. His wide eyes spoke volumes about his appreciation of her attention for him.. and his appreciation of the beauty of her body. But... he would not touch and had to rub his hands along the outside of his thighs to keep the temptation at bay. So lovely... so close...

It also made the Brownrider trip over himself to release his Dragon from the riding leathers he had just put on not more than five minutes ago. Why Styth was acting like such was a mystery, that was until the rage subsided and the real emotion hit him like a cinder block. The Brown was lusting, since he rose very rarely, F'rah could only guess that he was after a familiar Green. Although his thoughts immediately zeroed in on Reysalth, the Weyrlingmaster kept his mind open to the fact it might be a rising Green that Styth felt at least a little fancy for. Watching as the last of his dragon's leathers slip onto the floor, F'rah was almost knocked onto his butt as the Brown took off the ledge in a hurry. Feeling the lust begin to settle in, the Wingleader made off down the Weyrlingbuilding at a dead run, throwing his leathers into his office without stopping to see if he had accidentally hit his temporary assistant.

He was late. He was late and Reysalth was going to kill him... tear him up shred by shred. Flapping his wings as if his life depended on it, Styth was intent on continuously picking up speed, keeping to the always useful thermal updrafts. His feelings were battling like Fort and Benden in his chest, lust was beating his anger at not being the first to join his Weyrmate's flight sooner to a bloody and gory pulp. Snarling as he searched through the skies for his beloved and her chasers, Styth spiraled down into a cloud bank before bursting out through the bottom. The height at which he had accented to left him a good Dragon's-eye-view of the Weyr and it's surrounding area's, she was somewhere in this maze of humanity and nature.

There! It took only a few moments to locate the shinning green that caught his attention so many years ago, she was near the jungle, a suiting place for a feral female to be. Roaring as he dropped into a lower flight layer, Styth preformed a barrel roll to rearrange his position in the sky, making sure he took the fastest way toward Reysalth. And from the amounts of flashing hide he saw darting after the Green, he knew he had at least five other males to contend with, including Browns... which were her favorite color to flirt with. Snaking through the clouds that separated him and the rest of the chasers, Styth dropped down over the river, knowing that it would lead him to the one he so desired. Pushing himself up after a precious amount of moments passed by, the Brown angled his wings to pick up speed, carefully weaving his way to the back of the pack, rumbling loudly in agitation. If he didn't win, he'd beat himself up later for it, and if he did... he'd still beat himself up, but less severely.

It was the fastest run and boat ride he had ever preformed in his life, but it was worth it, for he got to the flightrooms in record time. Rounding the corner, F'rah-Styth barred his teeth slightly, both feeling the agitation over how many contenders for their Green's heart there were. Laurie-Reysalth was past beautiful, she was almost ethereal, something that could have fallen from the heavens... a falling star that had taken the form of a human. Prowling closer to the largest gap in between two of the chaser's, F'rah-Styth crooned a greeting, one filled with apology and yearning.

Corinth was miffed by Reysalth’s cry, and perhaps in a time when he was more in control of mind and emotions, he could have figured out why she was irritated. As it was, it took a while before he could grasp the concept. Of course: jealousy. Just as he wanted all of her attention to himself, she wanted his attention…along with her other suitors’. He crooned apologetically, looping to catch her attention. He hadn’t meant to anger her, surely she could understand that he wanted her to himself? Was it hard to understand why he would be jealous that her attention would shift away from him? Another apologetic croon issued from the bronze’s throat as he followed her, although it was against his instincts to head directly towards another dragon…

As she closed the distance to him, Corinth veered sideways, shifting his weight to one side and following Reysalth in a more circular route, trying to make sure that Rukbat’s rays glinted off of his body—see? He was a fine, shiny bronze, and he was here. The only bronze in her Flight, the only bronze clever enough to see what a gorgeous green was in the air. And it wasn’t like he was too much bigger than her! Just a little bigger than the average brown, perhaps, but that could be accommodated, surely?

He followed her upwards route. Thank Faranth for his wingspan, too, or he’d have been falling by now. Corinth’s lithe form looped again; he crooned lovingly. She was his, wasn’t she? His glowing, beautiful green? Wouldn’t she honor him with some attention? Irrationally, Corinth felt himself growing even more delighted by her antics as she dove, even though his larger body would probably slow him down. He was, still, smaller than that brown, the one whom he had hissed at. At another time, Corinth might have been huffy if this was pointed out to him.

Not now. Not with such a green on the line.

He dove, closing his wings to drop faster. Acceleration built up as Corinth pulled his body into a nearly vertical dive, eyes fixed determinedly on Reysalth. If she had been angry at him before for letting his attention waver, he was determined to make up for it. He was not, EVER, going to look away. Never, never, NEVER, no matter what! The bronze’s instincts rose inside of him as the trees neared, but he still kept his wings closed against his body, until he saw Reysalth pull out, until he reached the level she had reached.

He flared out his wings, pulling out of the vertical dive with an effort. No, bronzes were definitely not made for this. One wingtip flicked painfully against the rough wood of a tree he’d gotten too near, but he didn’t bother looking. No, if Reysalth didn’t choose him, at least he could honor her by concentrating on her, and only her. The sting in his wingtip as the air rushed by was hard to ignore, but the bronze still managed to keep the pain from his croon as he followed intently, his voice rising in tribute as he followed doggedly in her path.

T’rid automatically closed his fingers around the shoe that was tossed at him, without knowing what exactly he was doing, just before it hit his chest, even though his attention was already back on Reysalth. His mind, clouded by the dragon-incited emotions, didn’t quite register than it was Reysalth that had thrown said shoe, just that she had acknowledged him. He would stay acknowledged.

As her gaze and smile turned from him, he crooned anxiously, an apologetic note in his tone. Had he hurt her? How? He hadn’t meant to…the shoe slipped from his fingers, onto the ground, as he regarded her wistfully, longing for her to see him, know that he was the best…and that he would do anything to have her to himself, all to himself…

His throat tightened in another croon as she approached him, even though a pang of envy flashed through him when she approached Rosilinth first. As if he deserved to even be within a dragonlength of her! As Reysalth leaned towards him, the bronze moved forward automatically, but before he could put the very satisfying thoughts into actions, Reysalth had pulled away.

He watched intently as she paid attentions to each of her other suitors, and although the same stab of envy was felt each time, he managed not to snarl at them. Reysalth hadn’t liked it before. His croon grew in intensity, though, as if begging for attention. Didn’t she see him, here? Waiting for her? A bronze, a handsome bronze, waiting for her attentions? As she moved back to the center, his croon faded, and he regarded her with head tipped slightly to one side, longing in his eyes as she stretched.

Did she not know how hard it was to wait and watch her, without doing anything? Did she wish to kill him?

Dramuth’s eyes whirled expressively as he saw the glowing green beauty actually come over to greet him as he rose well above the jungle canopy. The fact that she sped away again only made him more determined that he catch her. Taking mighty scoops of air with his large wings, the brown surged forward, following Reysalth eagerly through the clouds. His wingbeats were strong, lifting him higher while requiring less energy. And it became clear that he knew how to use them to his advantage, along with the long tail he sported. It was as though none of the other males existed; Dramuth’s full focus was on Reysalth, and Reysalth alone.

Although the lust was well and truly upon him, Dramuth wasn’t as impulsive as some; he had noticed the green’s displeasure at having the males’ attention on their rivals, rather than her. And why not? She was splendid, and deserved everyone’s undivided attention! He knew to focus on other things as well… like whether or not he should expend the energy to follow her in her dive. Rather than look to see what the others were doing, the brown made his own decision. His wings suddenly fell closed against his sides before he plunged down on a sideways angle after her. It cost him nothing to dive, though he didn’t follow her barrel roll. His large wings flared at the crucial moment, sending the mists from the waterfall swirling around him, the moisture clinging to his hide as he shot through the fine droplets. He had gained admirable speed from that dive, and now he angled his wings slightly to sail in an upward angle without having to beat the air with his wings. After a few seconds, though, he gave several fast strokes and regained the speed he’d lost before, shooting above the treetops after his glowing green beauty.

On the ground, Aryna’s mind had long since melded with that of her dragon. As far as she was concerned, they were high above the Weyr, racing through the skies in pursuit of lovely Reysalth. As the beautiful green came near, it was hard to keep her hands to herself. Oh, she was so close, stunning Reysalth! But it was obvious she wasn’t choosing anyone so early, merely greeting… or perhaps teasing was a better word! It seemed that as soon as she arrived, Reysalth was gone, and Aryna/Dramuth turned quickly to keep her within sight. A spark of jealousy that was really more rider than dragon flared into her eyes. But this was about the dragons, and while it was very much Aryna’s nature to put a dagger in every single rival in the room and make off with the prize, it was fortunately very much NOT Dramuth’s. So Aryna had to settle for a low growl to herself as she kept a close eye on Lauranna…

Reysalth was not pleased. Oh, logically six males in pursuit - was it really so many? - was better than four, but why were two of them so very late? Was she not good enough to chase right from the start? They thought they could take their time? And for one of them to be her chosen cuddlemate was enough to have Reysalth fairly shrieking with fury. He should have been first! Or, at the very least, not last. Not late. Writhing, the green slashed downward beneath the tops of the trees, taking the narrowest paths through the branches that would still accomodate her size. With so many chasers, she was determined to take only the strongest, the best, and her anger made her even crueler than usual in that regard. They were all in for the chase of their lives!

A few more paralyzingly swift twists and turns, and then the green burst from the trees, directly beneath the blue. She flirted with browns for a reason. They were not like the blues who seemed to think that they could match her in speed and agility, nor like the bronzes, who thought their sheer power could carry the day. Browns chased with the certain knowledge that they were best at nothing, which meant they chased for her! To show their devotion and hope she would acknowledge it by giving herself to them. Reysalth was not a prize to be caught; she was a green whose favor must be earned! The thin blue might have been granted a measure of respect for his temerity, but his tardiness weighed against him. To her, he came to challenge her supremacy in the skies. His hubris was greater than that of a bronze! No one could fly better than she.

And so her talons raked forward as she twisted and shot past him, lashing out as his flank. That was his punishment. From here on out, he had as much chance as all the rest, if the ichor didn't slow him down. The other of her latecomers was expressly ignored after her initial angst-filled reaction. Shunned. A lot more than an apologetic croon would have to be offered to get Reysalth to so much as notice him. Her lithe form shot heavenward, then plunged into a dive that swiftly changed vertical momentum to horizontal speed. Her wings skimmed the water, throwing it up in her wake. The first of the winnowing had begun.

To the five who were not Shunned, she offered an encouraging croon. Even the bronze and blue. Both had already been forgiven, and the bronze's display, his willingness to go closer to the trees than perhaps was wise, pleased her. Reysalth did not much care for dragons with no innovation; following her move for move did not win respect. The smallest brown, too, received special notice, Reysalth dipping a wing to him. Oh, she saw, and it pleased her! The river poured into an open plain, widening, and she took that opportunity to turn sharply, flying into the tall grasses. A group of grazing herdbeasts bellowed in fear and began to run. The second of her tests. No mate of hers could be distracted by something so inconsequential!

The woman Reysalth basked in their adoration, immediately forgetting her annoyance at Corinth as his longing stare fixated on her and her alone. She did not notice Enouth until Styth forged past the man and forward, her stretch freezing at its zenith and hovering there, eyes narrowed. In a moment, she darted forward through a gap in her suitors - between Rosilinth and Dramuth - to stare up at the blue with a snarl. Late! Why late? Reysalth pushed him back into the wall. Hard. Yes, hard enough to give him a nice bump on the back of the head if he wasn't wary. She sniffed, tossing her head before turning to walk back toward her other suitors. About halfway there, she paused, casting a glance over her shoulder to see if Enouth was coming. Oh, he had better, or she'd do even worse things to him. Not polite to arrive late - less polite to leave.

It was there, halfway between Enouth and her other chasers, that Reysalth flashed her winning smile, returning the croons of her several males, though she pointedly never looked at Styth. Her arms rose lithely above her head, and she twirled, just fast enough to lift the very edge of her already extremely short skirt near to the point of no return. Stopping just before it could reveal anymore, she smirked at them. Rosilinth was gifted with a playful wink. Then she slithered pointedly between Corinth and Dohulth, pressing perhaps a little closer to each than necessary. Back within her ring, Reysalth shrugged a shoulder, allowing the material to slide down and bare that shoulder on one side.

The green suddenly pulled up out of the grasses, hissing at the great feline that had taken exception to the dragon in its territory. Her tail lashed, clipping it across the snout, even as more of the creatures decided to scare off any of the other dragons come too close to their hunting grounds. Reysalth let out a bugle of warning, flashing high to draw her chasers away from the angry felines. Irritated at having her Flight interrupted, she briefly considered plucking one of the creatures from the earth and showing it what a fall was, but changed her mind. Darting up into the clouds, she led them to their final test. Who would be able to follow her, to keep her in sight?

The Flight was beginning to tire Reysalth, though she refused to allow that to effect her speed. Her Choice was coming. Who would prove himself?

Corinth’s wingtip had started to sting slightly as air rushed by the scrape; a brief flicker of consideration flickered through the lust-filled mind, but in a second the bronze shook it off, his croons falling silent as Reysalth led her suitors on an unerring dive directly into the trees. Now that was not very nice, was it, he being so large as to probably get all scraped up due to the trees? But he had already lost some of Reysalth’s favor, and Corinth was determined to keep what he still had.

He dove, closing his wings slightly to better fit into the trees, wincing sharply as branches flicked painfully at his wings and body. Corinth bugled, trying to alert Reysalth. See? See? He was following her, albeit at a price, through the trees! He was getting hurt for her. Did she see him? Favor him just a little, for the pain he was putting himself through to earn her attention?

The idea of running through the trees after his glowing beauty came at a price, though. Corinth was considerably slowed down as he tried to seek the largest gaps through the trees, crashing over a couple in his haste. Finally, he couldn’t stand it any longer. With Reysalth still in the trees, he launched himself out of the thick undergrowth and into the air, speeding up to make sure he hadn’t lost Reysalth and crooning to her, looping as he waited. He couldn’t catch her if she was on the ground!

Ultimately, the bronze was grateful when she brought the flight back into the air again, although he twisted, veering around the blue, a smug glee rising when Reysalth scratched him. Corinth twisted mid-flight as she dove, bugling again before following, closing his wings into a nearly vertical drop. It didn’t hurt so much when he didn’t fly on them, and even that was manageable for Reysalth’s support.

As she skimmed along the water, he followed at a higher altitude, rolling over to let the sun flash off of his hide, clearly hoping his shininess would appeal to the green; his wings flared and caught him before his roll could send him into the water, although he dipped one talon into the water, sending up a small spurt of the cold liquid.

Her croon of encouragement included Corinth—he was sure of it! The bronze warbled back, his throat tightening as he drew out the soft, low notes in his throat, wondering if the sound would even carry what with all the noise around them. But if she did hear, she would know it was him, right? Of course she would. His hearing pricked at the sound of frightened herdbeasts, sounding below; the sound of hooves thundered in his ears.

Oh, was she trying to trick them? Corinth bugled to her, rolling sideways, so instead of being directly behind her where Reysalth couldn’t see him, he was able to be seen, maybe, in her peripheral view, in all his shiny bronze glory. Corinth was unaware of the felines’ presence until Reysalth assaulted one. Well, it deserved it, of course. The bronze hummed encouragingly, tucking his wings for a more streamlined upwards flight, following Reysalth as she led them away from the felines.

A good thing, too, because they probably weren’t very happy at having their hunting interrupted.

Corinth’s eyes were fixated directly on the green. Clouds or no clouds, he was going to follow her until she Chose. Oh, perhaps she wouldn’t choose him; she had shown favor to the browns that had arrived as well. But at least he could honor her in his flight. The bronze veered around a cloud, caught a glimpse of green above, and then shot after her. There was no way he was going to loose sight of her. Not now, when he was so close.

Far, far below, in the flightrooms, the bronze had already learned his lesson. Don’t look at anyone else, even to show jealousy that Reysalth might be focusing her attentions on them. She was all-important and wanted everyone. And Corinth was not going to fail at this attention-thing, when this green was glowingly wonderful like this. Making her his idol was simple.

He watched, lip tugged into an appreciative crooked grin, as she attacked one of the latecomers. He deserved it, that blue did. Didn’t he know that he was supposed to show up as fast as possible? Not late! Where was his honor? As she smiled, crooned, twirled, Corinth’s crooked grin widened; his head was still tipped to one side, the longing in his hazel eyes frankly admiring.

Reysalth…she passed close to him, and again the very tasteful thoughts appealed to the bronze, but he restricted his motion before the Dragonlust could get the better of him and he could do something he’d later regret. The green Chose…

He was going to have to remember that. Corinth watched, still humming low in his throat, as she returned to the center. Yes, she’d favored several of them with attentions, but this whole returning-to-the-center thing—did that mean she hadn’t picked out a favorite yet?

Rosilinth lowered closer to the trees. He knew it was risky but he was more determined to impress now that she was angry. He watched passively as she made her displeasure clear to the bony blue. Rosilinth could only feel glad he wasn't on the receiving end of her claws. He briefly wondered why any would bother entering the Flight late. It won them nothing in Reysalth's eyes. The brown quickly refocused on the object of all their attentions. As she dived down towards the water Rosilinth followed with eagerness.

The lightly coloured brown crooned back to her, as much to acknowledge her call as to gain her attention. Rosilinth made a giant stroke with his wings before turning onto his side and dipping one wing tip into the water. He waited as long as he could before straightening himself out. He also did this so he might better follow her turn. He was forced to make a wider one than she, not nearly agile enough to mimic the move. Ah, herdbeasts! They were a temptation of a different kind, one he could not afford to pay attention to just then. His attention was already occupied.

Rosilinth watched Reysalth's reaction to the new men entering the flightroom, crooning gently as she passed him to all but attack another. Why be mad? Those who had ignored her for so long deserve nothing but to be ignored in return. It was their loss if they did not desire the gorgeous Reysalth as much as he did. He was pleased to see her smile again and go back to her teasing. She was excellent at teasing! Rosilinth craved to be twined with her now, and forget about all the others trying to be noticed. The wink did not go unnoticed either. His returning smile was full of adoration and respect.

The dragon of the pair let out an annoyed bugle as he turned upwards to get out of range of the danger. What feline dared attack his glorious Reysalth? Were it not for the fact that the green didn't seem intent on stopping her Flight the brown would have gladly taken on a pack of the worthless creatures for her sake. With a low hiss he ascended into the sky after her, his energy starting to slip. Rosilinth hoped this was the last leg of the Flight as he forced himself after her. He passed over, under, and around the gentle white clouds as quickly as he could.

The flashes of green through the white of the clouds led him to barrel through one, the moisture clinging to him and making him nearly as shiny as the bronze, and yet his pale colouring made a weird mix. Shiny and dull at the same time. He was having a hard time keeping his eyes on her through the maze of clouds, but the brown tried to keep up. She was surely the quickest and most beautiful green on all of Pern! He crooned lovingly one last time as he waited to see her Choice.
