Raylin was intent on the firelizard eggs one minute and in the next she was suddenly viciously attacked by her friend Saeo. “Saeo what the heck are you talking about.” She hissed under her breath. “I was going to the infirmary to have my ankle checked. I had no idea they we’re going to hatch or I would have let you know.” She peered over her younger friends shoulder at the boy beside her and elbowed Saeo lightly. “Who the heck is that? Nevermind tell me after the hatching.” She resumed her intent watch on the unhatched eggs only mildly aware of the looks Saeo’s outburst had granted them.

It had taken him a very long time to get to the Infirmary because he had been so horribly far away ... it took awhile to run through the forest back to the weyr and to the spot. Cloar had gotten up really early and had headed out before the break of dawn to do a little at-dark exploring. Since he couldn't do that in the evenings due to the curfew, he had done it in the morning. Only to hear the call about the flitters.
Ugh, timing! He arrived through the door, gasping like he'd just run ten miles flat out ... never mind it hadn't been nearly that far. He landed against the wall with his shoulders, and slumped to the floor, drinking in air like he was fixing to die. His bright eyes flitted across the room, though, and noted that only two had hatched so far ... good! He wasn't too late to get one, then! Hurrah!
~~~
Arriving in a more dignified manner, E'yan came in by the other door. Though it was a tad early for him, he was completely dressed and presentable. He had taken a boat to get to the infirmary, as Kindrith was still sound asleep in thier weyr ... thus it had taken him a little longer than he'd expected to get there. He had banked on Kindrith bringing him ... and it just simply hadn't happened. The blue had totally refused to even wake up!
He stopped behind several of the young people, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked around. He smiled as he saw a little blue had impressed already. Things were well underway, it seemed. That little green, though, looked a little on the lost side, to him.
Yelling. Meira, who had been shrinking, torn between pride and absolute misery, against the countertop as if wishing she could melt into the stonework, twitched visibly, her eyes flying from the assorted hopefuls - and first Impression went to the pregnant woman that Savitri had been lecturing, Meira noted vaguely - to the source of the yelling, which had consisted of two words: Checkoth and no. Thus, she'd a fairly good idea of who had been doing the yelling before she caught sight of R'wign, wondering if she had the nerve to ask him to keep quiet - Zesa had responded with clear agitation, fluttering her wings and hissing softly, at the sound of the Brownweyrling's raised voice - but decided against it. Maybe he'd just quiet down on his own.
Her eyes widened, confusion prominent on her face, as a very muddy dragonet - Checkoth - flopped directly in the entrance of the Infirmary - preening? Why muddy? Meira stared, bewildered, at him for a second - now she understood why R'wign had yelled - and then, with a slight shake of her head, had just dismissed it when a recognizable voice was heard in her head. Same voice that had uttered the call for the Weyr to Zesa's Hatching. She blinked and hesitated, flicking a glance at Zesa, who was watching her eggs keenly, warning away anybody who approached within an armslength of the cabinet, and then slid away to the edge of the crowd. An excuse to slip away from the crowd - thank Faranth for Checkoth...dirty though he was and...bad though R'wign smelled.
She slid away from the growing group, and, as soon as she was far away from the crowd of people, relaxed notably, absently plopping herself on one of the Infirmary chairs before she glanced at Checkoth and answered, slowly. "Warm...? Not - not very warm, but Zesa's got things in there, to make it warmer for the clutch." Meira glanced at the Hatching again, hoping nobody would notice or care for her evasion. "I'm pretty sure she Clutched in here because I'm usually in here," she added, shrugging absently as she kicked her heels against the bedpost and then, clear confusion slipping into her tones, voiced her curiosity to both R'wign and Checkoth. "...why so muddy? And, erm...?" She coughed, rather pointedly wrinkling her nose at R'wign. Smelly. Very smelly.
Zesa raised her voice above the crowd, voicing a greeting to Checkoth, though a bit of confusion laced the gold's call - dirty - before she settled again, watching her clutch with the same possessive pride she'd awarded her hatchlings, though she hissed a soft warning at Saeo's noisy approach. Sure, it wasn't as loud as the brown's human yelling, but it was still noisy and she wanted it to be less so. Quiet! As the girl's rant stopped abruptly, turning to attention to her, Zesa didn't protest anymore - especially since she was familiar with this Candidate-girl - and merely crooned, recognizing a compliment when she heard it, before she turned her attention back to the clutch, after giving the other two that had come, a Candidate and a Rider, a quick glance.. Such a pretty clutch she'd made!
Slowly, slowly the Northern Lights Green worked, her eyes solemnly regarding all of the potentials even as she tugged one wing loose, pulled her leg out, gave a little wriggle and fell into the cabinet, the crumpled remains of her shell discarded as she huffed in surprise, her skinny frame plopped on the hard wood as she lifted her head, stretching, wings, legs, and even tail extended for a brief minute. Done with her stretching, the Northern Lights Green yawned, blinking the first lid of her eyes as it looked around again, tail flicking lazily against her haunches, but - but, oh. She was hungry. Ever so hungry. It was gnawing at her stomach, and - well, she was sleepy, too. The green hesitated, wavering, clearly trying to decide which of the warring desires should be settled first. On one hand, she was awfully hungry, but then...sleeping held a certain appeal, too.
Well...hmm. Eat first, then sleep, she thought. Or she'd be even hungrier when she woke! Pleased by the logic, the Northern Lights Green teetered to the edge of the shelf, her wings dragged along behind her, seemingly oblivious to the scrape of wood against fragile membrane as she wobbled on the edge of the shelf - and then the sharp crack of one of the other eggs made her jump, plummeting from the shelf with a startled squawk of dismay, only her dangling wings keeping her from falling flat on the ground as they caught air and slowed her fall, sending her shooting forward, claws outstretched with a look of almost comical panic as she collided with Ieoha, ending up draped over the old woman's right shoulder, tail dangling over the woman's back and her head resting along the collarbone of her neck. Hmm. This one would do, as long as she fed her and let her sleep, right? Not even bothering to twitch a muscle, she chirruped lazily, giving her a mental nudge. Food!
The culprit had finished discarding his shell quietly and had been watching his clutchsister's actions with an anxiety bordering on indifference. The remains of the Icy Ocean Egg had been almost silently shaken off of the small brown's body, and now he sat, glancing first at his clutchmother, and, at her approving croon, back at the assorted 'Candidates'. At the arrival of a mud-coated dragon in the Infirmary, though, the Icy Ocean Brown started in surprise, jumping and rustling his wings in slight surprise as he cocked his head at an almost ninety-degree angle, uttering a slightly confused chirrup as he watched Checkoth briefly. Why so dirty? With a slight flutter of his wings, the brown took flight, landing on one of the Infirmary beds near Checkoth and giving a questioning chirrup until -
The force of his sneeze sent the Icy Ocean Brown flopping on the bed behind him, the remains of his egg goo smeared on the fortunately empty sheets as he struggled upright, uttering a reprimand in R'wign's direction. Must he smell so bad? Well...he was His, so he'd be forgiven. But next time, His mustn't smell so badly. What had prompted the Impression was known only to the brown himself as he scrambled back onto the bedpost, paused a moment, and then launched himself at R'wign, plopping onto the Healer's shoulder with another sneeze, quieter this time, as the scents tickled his nose. Silly His, why was he messing with scents if he had to smell so badly? The brown gave another reproving chirp before it turned pleading. Yes, His smelled bad, but he could bathe later. Right now, he needed to be fed, couldn't he see that?
For a moment, Zesa's thrum lowered back to its original pitch, and then it sharpened again, almost slipping into a trill, as another crack was heard somewhere among the clutch - and yes, long, dark lines were etched down the side of not one, but two eggs, the Iceberg Egg and its similarly sized sibling, the Diamond Dust Egg. Seated side by side, it was only a matter of time before - the shells smashed into each other, cracks spiderwebbing both eggs and crumpling, sending their occupants rolling in two different directions, the Iceberg Green ending with her back and wings against the cabinet's bottom, her rear and tail supported by one of the walls, gazing upside-down and very reprovingly at her clutchbrother, who'd ended flat on his stomach, limbs askew and wings crooked, blinking in surprise at her. There was a pause, in which neither the green nor the Diamond Dust Blue moved.
Then, with a huff, the blue rolled onto his feet, throwing a guilty look out into the crowd and - THAT GREEDY BROWN! A sharp squeal of irritation slipped from the blue's throat, so shrill that Zesa uttered a reproving hiss as the Diamond Dust Blue flapped its wings experimentally, eyes glued to R'wign and his clutchbrother. Seeing as R'wign possessed of no meat, the conclusion reached by the blue was that his clutchbrother had eaten it all. Greedyguts! His eyes flashed, another hiss bursting from him as he fluttered his wings again, bridling. What if he wanted meat too, what if he wanted - ?! Without thinking about anything but that greedy brown - and indeed, R'wign himself never really registered to the blue - and ignoring the confused warble of the Iceberg Green - the blue launched himself from the shelf, the momentum taking him directly towards the brown until he realized his forward speed and tried to check it, flaring his wings and shooting over the brown's head and -
The Diamond Dust Blue uttered a clearly confused croon as he clung to R'wign's hair, blinking down at the young man whose head he'd very efficiently landed on. Well - oops. The blue flared his wings, carefully circling on top of R'wign to peek down at his clutchbrother with another disapproving hiss before he sat down on his perch, leaning down to nip R'wign's forehead, wrinkling his nose at the scent. Just because that greedy little brown had eaten it all didn't mean his new pet couldn't get him more, right? And he wanted a bed, and if that brown got to it first, he'd be unhappy. Very, very unhappy...
Which left the Iceberg Green to scramble to her feet herself, peeping at her clutchmother cheerily, the previous incident apparently forgotten as she walked forward, the rainbow of green hues swirling across her body vibrantly visible as she stepped into the light on the edge of the cabinet shelf, sitting down and looking over her choices, her head tilted as if that alone could change what she saw about each of the 'Candidates'.
~*~*~ Northern Lights Green Looks to- Ieoha Color- Green Physical Appearance- Thin. Very, very thin is this green's most noticeable personality trait, and though it isn't unhealthy, it gives her an extremely fragile appearance. She's all angles, her whiplash body lank. What's more, her neck and tail are long, making her look even thinner, and her head slightly larger than average, with bulging eyes, making her look completely unproportionate. Wings, large to the point of clumsy, are usually crumpled against her sides or ocassionally dragged on the ground when she forgets to keep them furled, and when this happens, they trail just ahead of her tailtip. Her hide is a soft, pastel green with a slight blue tinge to it, becoming more defined around her stomach and where her wings meet her body.
Personality- This little green could, possibly, be described as quiet, but the only reason for her lack of noise is laziness. She does very little, cares very little, and overall, her precense is usually overlooked for more exciting things. Laid-back and sleepy, she wastes very little energy doing anything and usually is sprawled carelessly wherever is the most comfortable, simply watching everything go around her through half-closed eyes - or dead asleep in what appears to be a very uncomfortable position, all her limbs flopping every which way. If this green ever stirs herself to do anything but eat and sleep, that is a major accomplishment and should be thus rewarded if you want her to do anything else of the sort for the next few sevendays.
Icy Ocean Brown Looks to- R'wign Color- Brown Physical Appearance- Built more like a blue than a brown, this flitter, just smaller than average for a brown, possesses a slender, agile body, whatever muscles he bears wiry. This look is emphasized by an unusually long neck and tail, though his head, small and refined, is proportional to the slimness of his neck. With eyes that are positioned a bit farther apart then normal, giving this brown a solemn appearance, delicate nostrils, and softly rounded foreheard, this flit is what most people consider cute. Long, narrow wings grant him grace in the air, added with his streamlined form to make a good flier indeed. As befits his lack of bulk, this brown is an exceptionally pale shade of brown, bordering on tan. Klah-colored "freckles" dot his muzzle, one well-placed, particularly large one giving his right eye a patch.
Personality- Like his dam, this brown is quiet, preferring a serene peacefulness to any raucousness. However, on the other hand, he's extremely patient, and even if he's irritated, he tends to keep it to himself, not protesting under any circumstances. Laid back to a fault, he has nothing against being ordered around by anyone. Eager to please, this flit is definitely intelligent; it shows in his silent, solemn way of watching everything, interpreting and analyzing everything, that goes around him. However, while normally patient, if one does irritate this brown past the point of no return, which will take quite a lot, his temper is quite fierce. Not physical, but the scoldings he can give are not something to be easily forgotten. While they can seem ridiculous coming from him, in all likelihood only someone exceptionally brave or stupid would dare bug him so much again - but chances are, hardly anyone will ever know about this dormant volcano, as he'll try to leave if he's being bothered that much. Observant, this brown is withdrawn around others, preferring to watch their antics than to join them; only around His will he ever drop the solemnity, and even that is doubtful.
Diamond Dust Blue Looks to- R'wign Color- Blue Physical Appearance- Medium in size for his color, this blue isn't anything special to look at, emphasized by the stormy blue color of his hide, a darker shade of blue tinged with eternal gray. Darker blue freckles grace his rump just above his tail, much like an appaloosa runner's markings, fading into nothingness as one proceeds either up his back or down his tail or flanks. Speckles of the same dark blue color appear on his lower forelegs, disappearing halfway up his legs. His wings are disproportionately long and slender, with a habit of coming unfurled while this blue learns to gain control over them. Despite his eternal clusminess on the ground, this blue is all grace in the air, where his long, lithe body aids him in anything he might attempt.
Personality- If he's unremarkable in appearance, this blue is also quite unremarkable in personality. This blue doesn't seem to have a lot of opinions, merely observing what goes on around him with, usually, polite disinterest. However, even if something does occur that merits this flit's attention, be it Rising green or simply a brawl that catches his eye, he's unlikely to stay interested in it very long, merely offering a brief opinion in passing before moving on with his life. With a very short memory span, faces and names are forever lost to this blue; it should be taken as a high compliment if one is remembered. Sleeping and eating hold eternal fascination to this flitter, and one of the few things that can get a reaction out of him is a threat of being deprived of either.
E'yan almost laughed as he witnessed the ruckus that was going on in a swirl around R'wign. The unfortunate lad seemed to be swarming with draconics. And quite the ruckus they were making ... one muddy dragonet and two squabbling baby flitters. E'yan was pretty sure that R'wign already had a few flitters, though he wasn't absolutely certain on that. The poor lad was a flitter magnet it seemed. His eyes glinted merrily as he watched the new bondeds getting situated and figuring things out. Of course the other impression was just as equally interesting ... that little green looked like she was stoked up on sleeping herbs. Ans somehow she managed to make that awkward position on Ieoha look totally comfortable.
Cloar realized that flitters were zooming all around the place, over head, and then scrambled back to his feet breathlessly. He didn't want to get over looked because he had been sitting on the floor! He glanced over at R'wign, and his eyes about popped out of his head. Was there even a person under all those flitters?!
Raylin watched as the Northern Lights Green plummeted and gave a gasp of horror. The candidate sighed in relief as the lucky green was able to save herself and ended up bonding to the old woman. She faintly smiled as she watched the other two flits, brown and blue respectively, bond to a brown rider. He seemed to attract the little flitters like flame attracts moths. She wondered why that was.
The candidate turned her eyes toward the remaining Iceberg Green. Now who would she choose if anyone? There were three eggs yet to break shell and one green unclaimed, but there were a lot of people present also. Even if she did not impress one there were always other clutches and it was worth coming just to watch the fragile little darlings hatch.
G'tor laughed heartily at the antics of the new hatchings. They behaved so much like his siblings when they were young that he couldn't help but express his amusement. He was pleased to see each one impress so easily, even though it was looking more and more like he wouldn't get one. He didn't mind so much about that. He could always keep trying at another clutch. The one thing you could count on with fire lizards was that their hunger drove them to impress. They wouldn't have any go between for lack of choice, as sadly happened to some dragonets.
~
Farryl was so entranced by the little lizards that she had nearly forgotten that she herself hoped to impress one. They were each so adorable and fascinating to her. Her mind was also drifting to the distance hatching. Would dragons be this wondrous? She didn't see how they could be any less.
Farryl did look up when Saeo came. She flashed a smile and waved bright to the other girl, giggling at her excitement. "Good luck!" she called cheerfully. She was sure her new friend would love one of the little creatures even more than she would.
Keloran just stared. "I guess some people collect firelizards...some people get everything, don't they."
The boy couldn't even attract a firelizard...maybe... "I don't have it," he said, softly. He didn't back away...there was still hope.
Who was he kidding? It was time for him to leave. Go. Find something else to do. His face set in a mask as he regarded the firelizards. He'd tried and failed and tried and failed...he knew he wasn't completely dragondeaf, but the only explanation was that he wasn't sensitive enough to Impress. Not even enough for a firelizard. So much for trying for a wher.
So much for...doing what his father wanted, what his family said, never doing anything that was for *him*. He had no place here other than as a failure who would, in a few turns, be nothing but a drudge. "I'm leaving," the boy murmured. Suddenly, he had to get out of there, but he couldn't, quite, bear to leave before the hatching was over.
What should he take? He didn't have much that was his...and where could he go? There were whers at Hyphen, so not there. Blossom? Selenitas Hold? EIther of those might work.
Blossom. It was further away. Less chance of anyone trying to haul him back. He'd never been Searched. He'd just been allowed to Stand. Wrongly, it seemed.
The fact that he hadn't been thinking straight for weeks? He wasn't aware of that.
Saeo's former aggitation was slowly beginning to re-surface as the hatching progressed. It seemed to her that just as soon as she'd gotten a good look at one of the flitters, thought up a name for it and decided just what kind of fun they would have together one they were bonded, it's eyes would dart away from her and it would claim it's place atop one of the others. A quick glance around the room told her that none of the candidates seemed to have impressed one of the tiny creatures yet. It was a small comfort, since it offered the girl a tentative excuse as to why none of the darling little dragonkin would offer her more than a passing glance. Maybe they just didn't like Candidates...
Keirin couldn't help but feel progressively more heartbroken as first the sleepy green, then two other flitters impressed. Was he really so unimpressive that no flitter would go near him? No, there were far more people than flits in the room. It only made sense that a few of them would walk away disapointed. Still, the nagging human selfishness in the back of his mind couldn't quite dismiss the hope that he wouldn't be among those disapointed few.
"Hey, any bets on how many flitters that guy is going to walk out of here with?"
He asked Raylin softly in an attempt to destract himself from the doubt and disapointment he was feeling. He touched her arm gently and smiled, making a small gesture with his head in R'wign's direction.
"My guess is that all the rest of the hatchlings flock to him like wherries to the kill when they see how popular he is."
Suddenly the Northern Lights Green rocketed with uncharacteristic speed towards Ieoha. The two crashed comically; The green sprawled out on one of the woman’s shoulders while the woman staggered backwards from the impact, arms windmilling in a desperate attempt not to topple over. While the look on the fire lizard’s face was one of humorous horror, the look on Ieoha’s face could only be compared to the one that people sport at a surprise turn-day party at the exact moment that everyone jumps out and yells surprise. The bewildered yet ecstatic emotion that flashed across her face was quickly replaced by a skeptical glare.
“You’re not going to die on me, are you?” She couldn’t shake the old superstition that had slowly grown onto her like a fungus, especially since the flit draped about on her shoulder snugly looked fragile at best. It also didn’t help that her fallacies had been confirmed at the last Hatching when the first-born green that had betweened itself without Impressing. The Northern Lights Green slowly looked down at the bowl of food in cradled in the woman’s arm, then back to the woman’s face with a single heavy blink of her vast faceted eyes. They were leisurely whirling a starving red, a contradiction that confused and somewhat frightened Ieoha. She didn’t want to have finally gotten another fire lizard just to lose it due to her own incompetence. Hurriedly she wormed her way over to a cot and seated herself so her hands were now free to feed the flit. Though unusually lethargic, the green was still had enough energy to move her head around in order to lap up the pieces of meat offered, so her bonded relaxed.
“Some ill omen you turned out to be!” the old auntie chuckled to herself as her superstitions were thrown out the open window, “The oldest of the clutch paired with the oldest of the suitors. We fit together like pieces to a puzzle!” A cackle lept into the air but the flit remained unperturbed. “And your color reminds me a little of the crèche’s walls.” She paused to tickle the crest of the green where the soft blue became more defined from the pastel green. “In fact, there was a child like you once. He was so popular and so lucky, atch, but even lazier! His name was Laef and he was the oldest in the crèche at the time… Such a troublemaker… Always making others do the work for him. One time he even got all the younger ones to…”
Ieoha began rambling about times past and Laef was happy to listen, provided that meat was continually being feed to her. Soon her dainty stomach was full and her head drooped to her bonded’s shoulder sleepily, lulled by the bedtime story that was still being recounted by the time all three lids closed shut on calm, contented blue eyes.
So the old crone wanted to live, hmm?
The crechewoman's comment was rewarded with a mild glare as Aliscia bristled at the thought of someone else touching her precious child. She knew she was being irrational, overprotective, moody, and just plain difficult, but at the moment, the greenrider was happy to be as irritable as she was. It was her child, shardit, and it was not to be passed around to various people's arms to be held, sneezed on, and cooed over. Had she not been fatigued and just in a sour mood after getting a lecture--Savitri was still watching her like she was going to pop at any moment--she might have at least been semi-polite. Now, she was glad when the old woman created distance between them. Yes.... distance was good. It made her less tempted to throw something.
The woman turned her attention back to the clutch just in time to see a few of the little critters hatch themselves out of their eggs. People were getting into her line of vision, though, and she scowled heavily at the realization that she could no longer see. They were all in her way! Standing would do little good; she would still be far, far too short to look over their heads. Her near-gold eyes narrowed, and she was tempted to throw a piece of meat at the back of the nearest person's head, just out of irritation and a perverse need to make someone else share in her misery.
It seemed there were other plans for her, though, as a little flitter--obviously having trouble keeping his rotund little body airborne--suddenly appeared from amongst the crowds and landed not-so-gently against her stomach. She felt his claws prickling through her shirt and very nearly jumped in surprise. Her child did react, and she felt the skin in the flitter's vicinity bulge out a bit as a foot--or was it an elbow?--nudged out at the offending little weight. The little blue's cautious peep turned into a squawk, and he crawled clumsily up her stomach to perch on top, meeping in confusion as to why His was kicking him from the inside. It was all so strange to him!
Belatedly realizing that the little creature now looked to her, Aliscia quickly scooped him up with her free hand and cradled him against her chest. "Sorry about baby. No manners," she murmured soothingly to the little creature, gratified when he immediately curled up into a chubby and hungry little ball of blue flesh in her hand. Apparently, her chest made a good bed, for he cuddled against it quite willingly, his head tipped up with mouth not-so-subtly hanging open to wait for the morsels in the bowl. The pregnant woman happily proceeded to ignore her chuckling friend--Savitri was highly amused that Aliscia was the first to snag one of the little beasts--and fed her new friend, popping bits of meat into the wide-open mouth until it finally was closed in satiation.
She looked over her rather hefty little friend, noting with amusement that the two of them now matched with both of their bellies rather distended, his from food and hers from an oversized unborn child. How cute! She set aside the bowl of meat and proceeded to stroke him as he crawled up to her shoulders and curled his fat body around her neck. His little chirrups were adorable, and she simply petted him until he drifted off, one foreleg dangling off her shoulder and down toward her chest. "Sure you don't want one?" the greenrider inquired of Savitri, snickering softly at the weyrling's crinkle-nosed expression. "Oh, come on now... isn't he precious? He's cuddling. I think... I'll call him Cuddles," she mused thoughtfully, stroking the little flitter as he snored softly in her ear.
"Original," was Savitri's only comment to her gravid friend, the healer staying well away from the flitter clutch. She did see the next few pairings, and she was hard-put to hide a chuckle at R'wign's expense. Oh, he would have his hands full, no doubts. I want one. Hepaticath suddenly piped up, quite calm despite the fact that she was interested. Savitri quickly quashed that idea, not wanting to add another headache to her life. The ones she had were quite enough, thank you. It was so tempting to chase after R'wign and his new little pets--and mindmate, she noted--but she decided to stay put and keep a wary eye on Aliscia. Hopefully, the snarky greenrider would consent to being dragged back to her weyr soon. Savitri did not want to stick around any longer than she had to.
The Iceberg Green seemed to be in no hurry to find her Bonded, though she assured the crowd with a cheerful warble that she was in no way intimidated by their precense. Why didn't they all be friends?! She'd love that, and why not? Friendship was good, right? Of course. Of course it was. But oh, she was rather hungry...but no matter. She could wait just a little bit - hunger wasn't too bad and wasn't there so many interesting things to look at! A muddy dragon (how funny; what was he doing?); so many people (all watching her, weren't they? How nice of them - ); a nice stack of eggs behind her, some twitching and some already cracked (was the Blizzard Egg rocking particularly hard, or was it just her?); and of course her already-Impressed clutchsiblings. The Iceberg Green took a hop forwards, warbling in excitement to the hatchlings, pleased by the attention as she flared her wings, bouncing slightly.
Crack. The Blizzard Egg had been shaking quietly, and now, a long, sharp crack speared through the center of the shell, the jagged edges falling, catching and locking into place, a flash of blue hide briefly visible before a long, surprised squeak was heard from the egg. The Iceberg Green whirled, scrambling back to the clutch, ignoring Zesa's squeak of protest, nuzzling the egg's surface until the shell crumpled outwards, splitting cleanly and falling to the sides, revealing a pale blue fire lizard, blinking in obvious surprise at the Iceberg Green, who echoed Zesa's welcoming croon with one of her own before she nuzzled her clutchbrother on his neck, nearly knocking over the small Blizzard Blue in his enthusiasm. Ohh, her brother was so small! How cute! The blue chirruped shyly, ducking his head as he nuzzled her back after a moment of painful hesitation, and then took a glance around at the crowd and shied back nervously.
So many people! As if to reassure her blue brother that all was fine, the Iceberg Green gave another cheerful trill, clearly accustomed to movement now as she fluttered her wings, lifting off the shelf and looping around the crowd, even veering to include R'wign and Checkoth in the circle with an undeniably gleeful shrill at her two clutchbrothers that adorned the Brownweyrling, and then swinging back to the cabinet and perching there with another nudge to the Blizzard Blue. See? All was good. All was fine. Was he still nervous? He didn't need to be. Honest he didn't; look how lovely and friendly and - and - well-stocked these people were! Those huge bowls of meat; all for them? Oh, how hungry she was...
The blue forgotten, the Iceberg Green crawled swiftly forward to the edge of the cabinet again, uttering a questioning flute to both the Blizzard Blue and her mother. Zesa answered with an encouraging croon; the blue gave no reply. Evidently satisfied nonetheless, she took another leap from the cabinet, her wings protesting the movement now; evidently, her muscles weak as she plopped down on Farryl with a loving nuzzle to the girl's cheek as she uttered a slight rasp of hunger, pressing her muzzle, no long damp from her hatching, into Farryl's cheek, and moving it along the girl's jaw with another hopeful chirrup. Hers would feed her now, yes? Please? She was, after all, very hungry, and surely Farryl could feel it? It was practically radiating from her!
Meanwhile, the Blizzard Blue eyed the crowd shyly, drawing his dark wings around his pale body as if to conceal it before he took a slight hopping step forwards, head cocked as he considered his options for Impression. As his mother gave an encouraging croon from above, the blue twitched in shock, skitteirng a step to the side and teetering before he regained balance, uttering a slight embarrassed keen. He'd nearly fallen - and in front of all of these people! The Blizzard Blue flicked another hopeful glance towards his newly-Impressed clutchsister, as if hoping he could point her in the right direction, but...she seemed occupied, and - and maybe that one that Hers had been talking to would be good for him? But then, maybe someone else....?
As the blue mulled over his choices, pulling his limbs into a slight huddle, an egg behind him cracked open dramatically from where it had been shaking enthusiastically, depositing a large brown on the shelf. The brown hissed softly as it kicked off the last, clinging fragment of the Glacier Egg. Ugh! Silly egg. What was its problem, clinging to him like that?! It'd mar his hide if it wasn't careful and then he'd be so, so upset. The Glacier Brown's gaze swung around, landing on the Blizzard Blue, who had swung around to stare at him with an anxious, decidedly nervous peep. For a moment, the fire lizards stared at each other, and then the brown uttered a petulant squawk, flaring its wings and tacking on a hiss for good measure.
These people should be looking at him, not at the Blizzard Blue, after all. The anger in the brown's tones sent the blue scurrying backwards, launching himself from the shelf with a pitiful keen as he overshot in his panic, flapping his wings hard and nearly shooting upwards before he moderated his pace and dropped lower, swinging on one wingtip and latching onto Raylin as he re-entered the crowd, giving another pathetic croon as he pressed his still-damp, quivering body against her throat, tail locking him in place as the hungry sensations included the girl, his new Bonded, with another keen. Scary! Scary, scary brown, that one was...
The Glacier Brown gave a huff of clear delight as he realized that he was center stage - and no, that the Blue Ice Egg was wriggling behind him did not register - and plopped himself down, eyeing his spectators for a moment in obvious delight before he arched his neck back, glancing at his clutchmother. Wasn't he handsome? Wasn't she proud? With an answering croon, Zesa huffed softly, encouraging him to choose - but, not yet! No. Instead, the brown flared his wings, puffing up his chest and prancing regally across the shelf in a display that was really quite comical for such a small, birth-clumsy creature, though his delighted flash of blue and green shades in his jeweled eyes proved that he was absolutely delighted with himself and his appearance. He was much more handsome than any of the others, after all, and anybody with eyes could see that!
~*~*~ Iceberg Green Looks to- Farryl Color- Green Physical Appearance- The most eye-catching thing about this green is undoubtedly her coloration: it varies from a lime green to a black-green, the swirls of coloring usually harmonious, though an ocassional clash takes place on her hide. It seems impossible to trace one spiral, as they fade and melt into others quite quickly, giving her an almost camoflauged appearance. Around her face, though, the markings seem to be at war, with a dark green tipping her nose and then fading into a lighter green as it nears her neck, but vivid green markings swirl just under her eyes and around her nostrils, standing out sharply. Neither slender nor chubby, this green is very average otherwise. Little sticks out about her; her size, wingspan, and conformation is - average.
Personality- Like most of her build, this green's personality fits into the stereotype that most people give to green flitters. With a very short attention span, she's not overly intelligent, and her concentration flips from one thing to another as fast as they come, making her difficult to train. While not the most intelligent, this green's constantly optimistic outlook and cheerful, outgoing approach makes her easy to love. Exciteable and energetic, this little one can be rather tiring to try to manage or keep track of, and her rather crazy playfulness is, while it can be appealing to some, will no doubt wear out her Bonded in time. This green is, too, extremely friendly to basically anyone, be it human, flitter, dragon, or ever 'mandyr, though the open affection she holds for her Bonded will always guarantee that she'll stick loyally by Hers if they so ask it.
Blizzard Blue Looks to- Raylin Color- Blue Physical Appearance- An extremely pale blue hide characterizes this blue, verging on white, with only the faintest blue tinge to it. However, the deep sapphire blue shade of his wing membranes leaves no doubt as to the coloring of this little flitter, odd though the stark contrast appears. The same sapphire blue tips each of his neck ridges, and his the tip of his tail fades into the same shade as well. His size, too, sticks out, being extremely small to the point where some greens might dwarf him. His body is slender and relatively long, his tail longer still, but his wings are short and wide, making flight rather difficult. Luckily, there isn't much weight for those wings to bear.
Personality- There's no getting around the fact that this blue is self-conscious about his awkward conformation, most especially his size. Queens, bronzes, and browns of any species make this little one a nervous wreck, and no matter how kind any of them may be, he'll never be as open around them as he can be. Blues and greens, however, are a different story, and while he's still slightly shy upon first meeting, he's much more forward. This flit is undeniably sweet, caring and eager to please any who ask it. A slightly flirty side of him comes out with greens that are smaller than or the same size as he, though he's apt to loose attention if his interests are returned too quickly, or if they are returned too slowly. Thus, the only one that will likely ever have his eternal adoration is His.
Farryl was watching the little green with delight. True, she had yet to choose anyone, but she was clearly enjoying herself. Her color was lovely, a mix of greens that Farryl could not quite see because the little thing hardly ever sat still. One minute she was wondering out and the next she was returning to the clutch.
Farryl smiled as she saw the little blue emerge. He was so adorable and the green was so kind to help him. She hoped he impressed to a kind person who would give him love and support that he clearly needed. Her eyes were still on the blue, when the flighty green practically fell onto her shoulder.
"Oh!" She giggled as the green tickled her cheek and face. "Alright, alright!" she gave in. "You're hungry, I get it!" She produced a small chunk of meat from her bowl, which the little green rapid snatched. Soon she was devouring meat almost as fast as Farryl could hand it to her. 'Shards!' she thought. 'If this is a little dragon, I'm almost afraid to see how much those eat!'
The green halted her gorging in time to see her blue brother chased off by the brown. Food forgotten for the moment, she cocked her head at the brown as if trying to decide what his problem was. Than she ignored him to give the blue a cheerful chirp before returning her attention once more to food. Her tail twitched energetically as she perched on Farryl's wrist so she could reach into the bowl for more meat.
Farryl smiled and scratched the back of her neck lovingly with a finger. "You're a flighty one, aren't you?" she noted with amusement. The green was clearly going to be a handful, but Farryl did not mind in the least. She would certainly keep life interesting from now on. "I'll name you Tille, how's that?" Tille burped loudly and Farryl laughed, taking that as an affirmative.
G'tor smiled fondly at the little green's display of affection for her brother before flying to a candidate girl. The blue too, found a Bonded, though after a rather frightening experience with his sibling. The brown seemed more like a bronze to G'tor, with his superior and demanding attitude, especial where attention was concern. Still, he was handsome. One one other egg remained unshelled, but G'tor didn't mind. If he did not Impress one, he could always try again at another time. Zesa should be proud of such a healthy first clutch.
Raylin flinched as Keirin touched her arm and spun to face him. She only vaguely registered that he was speaking to her. She felt that same familiar gnawing panic in the pit of her stomach, the same feeling she got whenever an attractive man touched her. Was he actually expecting her to answer? She was saved from having to choke out an answer when another baby flitter burst from its shell effectively capturing her attention.
The Iceberg Green seemed to be trying to comfort her small nervous Blizzard Blue brother and Shards was he tiny. Raylin felt a pang of sympathy for the little creature. She knew what it was like to be so nervous that the world seemed like a huge hole just waiting to swallow you up. While the candidate was focused on the tiny blue the Iceberg green had finally chosen her bonded. One of the candidate girls Raylin had yet to speak to yet.
The dark haired girl turned to offer a congratulatory smile to the lucky girl, when the Glacier Brown made his dramatic entrance, scaring his poor clutch brother out of his wits and sending him flying straight into Raylin. She jumped as she was assaulted by waves of panic and hunger. It took her a few moments to realize that the emotions were coming off the little flitter. Her little flitter. The candidate raised her hand and gently unattached the blue setting him on her lap and softly stroking him. “It’s ok little one.” She crooned reassuringly, “I won’t let him harm you.” The little blue gave an anxious peep but began to settle, hunger now becoming his dominate emotion.
Raylin hummed a lullaby that she used to sing to her twin brothers as she began to feed her little flitter choosing the pieces with care. His mouth was so small she didn’t want him to choke. “You need a name.” she stated softly to the little flitter keeping her voice almost to a whisper to avoid startling him. The rest of the room and its occupants were forgotten. All that mattered right now was her new little mindmate.
While disapointed that she had been once again ignored by the newborn flitters, Saeo couldn't help but smile at the choice of people the sweet green and her timid brother made for their impressions. The fact that both Farryl and Raylin had impressed was nothing short of fantastic, because not only would the two obviously close clutchmates be able to visit each other often due to thier bonded's similar ranks, but she now had a perfect excuse to introduce her two friends to one another. All in all, this was turning out to be a rather fine day.
"Oh goodness Raylin!"
The girl giggled as quitely as her excitement woudl allow, leaning in to get a better look at the tiny, almost white creature that had wrapped himself around her friend's neck like a ravenous, ineffective scarf.
"He certainly is a nervous little fellow! You'd think he was part wherry! My, what lovely colours he has on him..."
Keirin offered the lucky candidate next to him little more than a congratulatory smile and nod of his head before focusing his attention back on the soon-to-be-over hatching. He could feel happy for the others later -right now though, the pressure of weather he would impress or not was driving him mad. The Glacier Brown, who had sent his tiny blue clutchmate fleeing in panic, certainly did seem to have a high opinion of himself. What a proper little drama king, the boy thought with a wry grin. Well, who could deny him that, beautiful as he was? He'd impress on one of the riders, he was sure. That much ego could never be handled by a candidate.
Now that Ieoha’s story had dwindled down to an anticlimactic end as she noticed her audience had fallen asleep, the woman was faced with a dilemma. Should she move the slumbering flitt or allow it to remain on her shoulder? She didn’t have to worry about mobility since she wasn’t expected back at the crèche until at least tomorrow morning and she didn’t have any other place to go. Besides,
But that was getting away from the actual problem. While Laef looked too fragile to move, she also was precariously perched upon Ieoha’s shoulder. She feared she might fall off and shatter into a million pieces. Carefully, ever so carefully, the auntie slid her hands under the green’s bulging stomach and lifted her off of her risky roost. Her hands were spread like a soft plate beneath the frail frame, but still the wings spilt over the edge of her worn fingertips. Ieoha grinned. Laef would give the blues and possibly the browns a run for their money she eventually Flew, that was for certain.
Gently the crèchewoman laid the fire lizard onto her lap and spent the next few minutes cautiously folding the sprawled form into a neatly curled ball. It almost looked like Laef would fit right back into her shell again if one took the time to collect all the pieces and glue them back together. The petite green stirred not once during the entire process.
In the time this took another blue and green had found their bonded. Ieoha looked back up towards the shelf, just barely able to peak at it through a small hole in the crowd, to find it surprisingly empty. Just one more egg left rocking and a brown strutting his gawky hatching body rather proudly. Ieoha guffawed deep in her throat, feeling a little bit of sluggishness through the sleepy flit on her legs. Looked like a bronze had been trapped in a brown body!
