Finally, the Hatching Arena was full. Syrene stood there with her arms crossed, looking entirely too pissed off for no good reason. She was here now, why couldn't they just hatch? Waiting was a pain in the ass.
A flicker of amusement lit her black eyes as she watched the boy who had screamed at the Brownie Egg get picked up by Jingth and deposited in her general area. Hah, served him right. She watched the events of the arena with a bored look - one that immediately changed to an expression of interest as two of the eggs began to quiver in different fashions. The Brownie Egg was rocking in an almost mathematical fashion, while the Pixie Egg seemed to prefer a more random motion.
Syrene watched as the Brownie Egg cracked and a pale Blue dragon emerged from it systematically. It swept the Candidates with a calm, cool gaze and then proceeded to... seem to communicate with the still-hatching Pixie Egg. Then, suddenly, the first dragon of the Clutch was moving with a symmetrical pace through the Candidates, not paying any attention to any of them. How odd, Syrene thought, observing the oncoming Blue with vaguely curious eyes. He was close now - if he didn't stop soon, he'd run out of Candidates to ignore. Why wasn't he Impressing anybody?
And then, Syrene's eyes widened ever so slightly at the sensation of another presence fusing into her mind. The sensation went deep - a familiar feeling that she'd experienced during the Touching of the Brownie Egg, except now it was a hundred times stronger. She blinked once the initial shock of Bonding had dimmed a little, looking down at the pale dragon standing in front of her. And blinked again. And again. I apologize for my lateness. I wished to confirm the proper procedure with my sibling. I am Wridelth, Syrene mine. I find you highly intelligent as well as aesthetically pleasing. I trust this is satisfactory? And, Mine, repast, at this time, would be much appreciated.
Wridelth's words rang coolly in her mind, his calm, synthetic tone helping to decay her shock. What a weird feeling... a surge of actual emotion flooded her veins. This was what she was born for, and it was happening now. It had just happened. She was now Bonded to a dragon. She was now a Weyrling. Which meant she had to stay in this Weyr until she became a dragonrider, but then after that, she - they - could go back to Fort...
Wridelth... And what happened next was entirely... odd.
Syrene smiled. Yes, smiled. A genuine one. Considering it was Syrene, it was rather small - but it was still there. Her sharp features were softened by the gentle tug on her lips, making her look actually nice for a second, all threat drained from her face and body language. The ambiance of applause caressed them, and she turned to look at Ashlyn and T'san respectively as they congratulated her, unable to wipe the smile from her face because she was... happy.
And almost as soon as it had come, it was gone. Her hard, chiseled expression erased the softness that had briefly taken over her, and she turned her dark brown eyes on the pale Blue, who was regarding her with a calculating gaze. His pale, white eyes were tinged with a calm aqua hue. Yes, Wridelth. Let us get you food, her own toneless mindvoice speaking to the Hatchling. She could feel his starvation and would not delay feeding him.
The new Bluepair made their way over to the table piled high with meat. Immediately, Syrene pulled loose some strips of meat and proceeded to dangle them for Wridelth to eat; which he did, hardly even chewing. She could care less about the rest of the Hatching now that she was Bonded, but despite this she also kept an occasional eye on it.

Apologies, was offered absently to Dsoleth, Jingth nuzzling against the brown’s side, but the gold’s attention was focused on the eggs. The Impression of the first blue, of Wridelth, went off to perfectly, without a hitch, that it had some of the tension draining visibly from Jingth’s body, her tail curling loosely around her haunches. The blues in her gaze became more prominent; if only the remainder of the Hatching would go off so perfectly…without, and the thought was accompanied by a stern glance towards Aephon and, beyond him, Jenna for her lateness, any other Candidate blunders.
The kiss to her hand was barely noticed, but T’san yelling definitely was – Meira blinked in amused surprise before she glanced at the brownrider, lips quirking into a smile that came much more easily with the release of Jingth’s tension. “You know her?” she inquired, mostly a rhetorical question, since it was obvious T’san did. “What’s she like?” She did want to know about the people who Impressed her dragon’s offspring, after all, and at the moment, Meira only knew Syrene as the Candidate who wore a lot of eyeliner – which was not exactly an in-depth character study.
On the Sands, the Pixie Egg’s occupant’s careful work at the shell finally brought about its collapse, the weakened eggshell crumbling under the steady pressure. From the ruins came a startled chirp, and then a pale hatchling crawled out, blinking inquisitively. As the whole of the hatchling’s slick body came free, her coloring became obvious – the Pixie Green fluttered her wings prettily, peering around her with no small amount of interest.
She started on her way to the Candidates, quick on her feet even through her clumsiness. Behind her, the Selkie Egg, evidently not at all as intent as its sibling on a neat Hatched, positively exploded outwards, sending pieces of eggshell raining down on the Candidates bold enough to venture close to the clutch. It left another green sitting in the remains of what had once been her egg, blinking as the liquid from her egg slipped, slick and sticky, down her sides.
Undeterred by the Selkie Green’s hatching, the Pixie Green spared only a brief glance over her shoulder and a croon of agreeable welcome for her sister before she continued on her way through the Candidates. The Pixie Green paced through the small selection of males without so much as pausing, and then began to wind her way through the females. Past Mayari, who received a disinterested sniff at the hem of her robes; she paused at Jenna’s feet, snuffling at the female’s palm briefly before moving on.
As she continued, the Selkie Green had wobbled to her feet, too, but instead of heading for the Candidates, the little female headed right for the waiting tables of food, calling over her shoulder, Ithaaaaanna, love, I see you but I’m sooo hungry and the food’s caaalling, it’s so close! I can smell it from here, meet your Iwyrth there, huh? I promise I’ll love you properly after I eat.
The Pixie Green made a low noise of frustration, eyes whirling more rapidly in dismay. She reared onto her hind legs, claws digging loosely into the length of Isori’s robes, and tugged the girl closer to her, careful not to scratch her, bumping her muzzle hopefully at her face, but a second later she dropped away again and turned away, tail drooping miserably.
Surely Hers was here somewhere.

Selkie Green Name: Iwyrth Impressed to: Ithanna Color: Green (#8DD62E) Appearance: Medium in size, Iwyrth will fall neatly into the middle of greens in terms of size…but in width, Iwyrth is just a little…wide. Okay, she’s chubby. The green is best described as “roly-poly”, a layer of fat thick enough to actually jiggle covering her ribs and flanks. With a compact body anyways, Iwyrth looks…just like a barrel, to be honest, that has a few extra appendages sprouting out in the necessary locations. Short, thick legs end in large, clumsy feet, with startlingly long, sharp claws that look…far too dangerous on such an otherwise soft creature.
At first, it won’t seem likely that Iwyrth will ever be able to achieve any amount of grace, be it on the ground or in the air. Between the size of her feet (which will always be oversized in comparison to her body, not just as a hatchling) and the fact that her wings are very short and wide, Iwyrth will cut a far from imposing figure, all soft curves. Given the right stimuli, though, Iwyrth will be able to move with a surprising amount of speed, if not quite elegance, and efficiency. No, she won’t ever be truly agile, nor will she be able to fly for a terribly long time, but her enthusiasm will have to make up for that.
Color-wise, Iwyrth is cheerful. A relatively bright shade of grassy green, her hide has no spectacular shimmer to it – instead, it gleams in random patches, shining in one spot, matte in a few inches over. Neither is the green a consistent shade, irregular patches of color just a shade off of the previous random across Iwyrth’s hide. It looks, at first, as if Iwyrth is not properly cleaned – but her hide has a constant smoothness to it when well cared-for, and it will be apparent that this is just how she looks – even if it will never quite be truly beautiful.
Despite Iwyrth’s definite lack of anything resembling grace, there is one thing about her that (debatably) one-ups her when compared to the average dragon. Her first eyelid is capable of reflecting even the smallest amount of light, which makes it very much possible for Iwyrth to see perfectly at night. Perfectly enough to fly, go between, you name it – even if she’ll probably end up preferring the day regardless. More dragons awake then.
Personality: Iwyrth…is a quirky dragon, to say the least. She seems to enjoy the simpler things in life; a good nap, basking in the sun, and food. Oh, food – Iwyrth loves food. In fact, oddly enough, she eats more than does a typical dragon, and can often be found gnawing idly on an old herdbeast bone like a canine, though rare is it that a canine can take on an entire rib as a ‘snack’. So much does Iwyrth approve of food, snacks, and just in general having something to chew on, that it often sneaks its way into otherwise unrelated conversation, though certainly not in a vapid manner.
No. Instead, Iwyrth, who really is quite intelligent even if her casual conversation doesn’t show it, likes to use food as metaphors. For the green, unlike most dragons, has the ability to comprehend hypothetical situations and theories to an alarming degree, and will frequently talk at someone, be it Hers or a convenient other dragon, to arrange her own thoughts. Which will undoubtedly become terribly confusing, because Iwyrth’s thought process can become incredibly complex. Fortunately, if Iwyrth is interrupted and asked for an explanation, she does try to explain…with food. Because everyone gets food, right?
Iwyrth is very friendly, though, complex theorems aside. She makes great company if you don’t really want to accomplish anything but fun; Iwyrth will always be perfectly content to roll around in the mud, see who can make the biggest splash in the river…whatever, really; this green is incredibly laid-back and pleasant to all. However, one point of interest is her territorialism – Selenitas is home and home is best, and anyone who even implies insult by accident will find themselves with a hissing little flurry of green wings, though Iwyrth can only be driven to physical aggression by an actual threat to Selenitas. But just leave her home alone and all will be smooth sailing, yes?

ust the sight of the Healer being picked up like a newborn kitten was like fuel to the fire. The urge to start laughing at Aephon again was so great that she could only just contain herself. To the Queen she curtsied. "Of course, I shall not dally." How she managed to say anything was a miracle in and upon itself. Waiting until Jingth swung around, Ithanna followed behind her tail until Dragon passed through the front line of Candidates. It was there that she forced herself to stay. It wasn't that hard, given that she could see Aephon directly from where she was. She'd have to tell him later just how "dashing" he looked with a red face to match his red shirt. Didn't matter that he might not have a red face, as long as she told the story convincingly he'd believe her. Looking at the faces around her she was about to call to one of the other girls when a baby emerged from out of no where. Obviously her attention had not been efficiently divided. Although seeing Jingth pretty much deposit the guy into the middle of the clutch had been a bit distracting, no one would fault her for that right? Honestly though. Her attention span seemed to shorten sugnificantly when she was around Dragons, especially when it came to this hatching.
Lifting her foot out of the way so that the little Blue's tail wouldn't accidentally smack into her ankle, Ithanna watched with curiosity as Syrene Impressed. She added her own clapping to those around her. Looking back at the clutch to make sure a dragon wasn't going to come hurtling at her if she looked away for a mere moment longer, she called softly to one of her 'friends'. The term applied loosely, since they had had only a few solid interactions. "Hiisst. Jenna. Come stand by me." Either the girl would or she wouldn't, either way at least she had been invited. In the off chance that she didn't, Ithanna nudged the girl to her immediate right happily. "This is proving to be very interesting, no?" She was speaking to a girl who's name she'd forgotten. Maya? Maybe but she didn't want to offend the other by calling her a wrong name. And instead of looking at her, the dirty blond rocked onto her toes and then back onto her heels, intent on watching the clutch.
She had noticed the Pixie Egg was hatching, but it seemed to be making a very slow progress of coming out. She supposed all babies were like that. Some wanted straight out and others wanted five more minutes of darkness, like little kids always wanting five more minutes of sleep. Again she pressed her finger tips together in front of her chest. Maybe she should study how the draconid birthing process went... it wouldn't hurt to expand her horizons a little. She grinned wryly.
The Pixie Egg ended up hatching as daintily as it had been working on its egg, but an explosion drew Ithanna's attention away. Well, it was more the egg shard hitting her face and making the pain that she had all but forgotten come back. Tch. Details. But where was the Green... going? A voice, a cheery voice, sprung into her mind as if it were meant to be there. "Ah...wha?" If the expression that spread across her face could be named, it would be somewhere along the lines of 'dumbfounded'. If not 'a gaping idiot'. Her feet told her to move and so she did, her mind not working properly for a few moments. Back to reality she came a'crashin, forcing her slow walk into a run. Yes! See that is better. If you come faster we can eat and then we can get to being with each other. Flawless, eh? By the time she arrived at the table, Iwyrth had gotten about trying to solve the problem of actually getting the food. "I'm here, I'm here. Sorry!" Oh lovely, Mine! Does this taste as good as it smells? "I would assume so." Handing the Green a strip of the meat, Ithanna wondered at the emotions she was feeling. They were distinctly not her own...

Although practically being able to feel the weighted gaze of Jingth, Jenna didn't glance in the gold's direction. If she every so subtly stepped behind a taller candidate, well, that was merely coincidence. Thoughts concerning the mother dragon were quickly shoved aside as two greens appeared on the sands. Even the pain in her hands faded to the more jubilant emotion swelling in her chest. The entire reason for her coming to the weyr hinged on this moment.
Jenna didn't know what she was going to do if she discovered she quite belong here either. These trouble thoughts were abandoned, too, as the Pixie Green wandered near. She lowered a hand, absently reacting to the hatchling as if the green was a runner, holding out her palm to be sniffed. Er, or nuzzled, that works. Jenna smiled, positively beaming at the green until..
Crest fallen, Jenna watched the green move away. Wait – did the touching mean she impressed the green? The candidate master said they would know if they had been chosen. Maaaybe the Pixie Green wanted her to follow? Confused on the whole matter, Jenna made a few hesitating steps after the green until it reared in from of another girl, claws flashing out at white robes. Again those hands flew up to her mouth as her first impulse was to gasp at the possible mauling.
Without even pausing to think, Jenna sprang that last step forward and jerked Isori away from the green (who thankfully seemed to have lost interest) "Don't do that!" Directed sternly at the hatchling before Jenna turned her eyes on to Isori. "Are you okay?"

Maya looked nervously over at Jingth when the gold suddenly deigned to leave her place before the eggs and come onto the sands. For an unreasonable moment she thought that the gold might come her way and wondered what it was she'd done wrong. Only Jingth went past her, over to someone she did not recognize at all. Someone on the sands, dressed in...red? The male who was either not a candidate or a candidate who was asking for trouble was promptly picked up and deposited nearer the gold and her clutch. Maya watched with wide eyes, but couldn't quite help a short laugh that escaped her when she noted a string of drool leak out of the gold's mouth and down the back of said person. Well, that was one way to show her displeasure? She covered her mouth with her hand, light brown eyes dancing in amusement for a moment. But oh, how short that moment was. For the first dragon hatched and heralded the true beginning of the hatching. It was a blue. So pale a blue that his hide appeared blue grey he showed no preamble about where he was going. He wasn't even looking at any of the candidates and he certainly didn't spare her a glance. She followed him with her eyes, making note of his size, how well he seemed to be fashioned--even for a hatchling--and other various things. He was not for her and as she watched him finally stop in front of a morose looking girl she clapped politely along with the rest of the people. She couldn't offer a congratulations from where she stood. Besides, the egg that had begun to show a snout suddenly managed to spill its contents. It was a nice looking green, but it was suddenly followed by yet another green! There was something decidedly cute about the green who tumbled out next. Its feet looked large and it was certainly fair to say the little green was rotund. Adorably so, however. She watched it and tried to keep neutral feelings as it made its way to another girl and Impressed. She remembered Emoyan's kindly speech. Five turns he'd seen candidates left standing. Only to Impress at a later date. He'd said Zexion was a sign she could have a very good chance. She'd only been in the barracks two turns. She remembered his words and the nervousness abated more. She couldn't see Zex from where she was, but she knew that no matter what the 'mandyr would be waiting for her once she came off the sands. The first green to hatch didn't ignore everyone the way her blue clutchsibling had. Instead she seemed friendly and alert. However when she paused to sniff at Maya's own robes her breath caught...only to release as it moved on to sniff at another girl's hand; it finally stopped in front of another candidate, placing its clawed feet on the girl to look her in the face. Had it Impressed? Two of eight had Impressed that she was sure of. That left six and there were more than six candidates on the sands. Still she found herself casting her gaze about for Emoyan. The dragonless man who'd been so kind to her she now sought unexpectedly amongst the spectators. Only now she took a deep breath and watched the eggs and the green with renewed interest. xXx Mihkal broke into a smirk as he saw Jingth heading towards a candidate who had shown up wearing a bright red shirt. He recognized the boy, if only vaguely. He'd been the same one to tell off one of the eggs earlier. The guy had a flair for dramatics, that was for sure. Jingth picked him up by said shirt and deposited him nearer herself. Mihkal made a little huff which was his usual form of laughter as the gold drooled on the guy. Served Mr. Fancy right. You didn't show up for a hatching in anything but the robes. They were stupid. They itched a bit and he wouldn't be caught dead in them anywhere else. Even he knew there as tradition and you had to wear them regardless, though. He didn't wonder if the other young man would get a scolding later. He knew he would. His gaze was averted and drawn away by the hatching of a blue. Not a bad way to start. It was really pale in color and large in size, but not a bad looking dragon at all. T'lor had a blue and Mihkal wouldn't have minded one himself. Dragons were responsibility enough without getting something that was bigger or could end up as Wingsecond, Weyrleader or the like. He wasn't the one this particular blue wanted though. Shells, it didn't even look at him, or any of the candidates it walked past. Something about the way it moved was really...perfect. No jerky or unsure movements, it seemed so precise in the way it crossed those sands. It looked like it knew perfectly well what it was doing. Sure enough it passed by most of the candidates and stopped in front of the girl he'd seen a few times and dubbed 'creepy'. Not that he had a problem with her. He rarely broke a smile himself but she seemed like a blank slate. Nothing there to read, no real emotion. Like she just existed without living. Still, she'd Impressed. So what he thought? Didn't matter. He clapped because everyone else was doing it and because it was nice to see someone Impress. It felt a little mechanical. Not that he wasn't happy for the girl, just he was more interested in the dragons who were hatching next. Turned out the next was a green. That wasn't happening and so he watched knowingly as it headed over to the girls. Then a third green hatched. This green was the opposite of her rather large blue brother. Rounder, not completely proportionate. More so even than some he'd seen--not that he'd seen a whole whack-load of newly hatched dragonets. They tended to grow into themselves though. She might always be a bit on the rounder and softer side, might always have feet that were a touch big. But she'd probably grow into herself and be a nice green. Certainly she was friendly seeming and that in itself counted for something. That kind of dragon tended to meld better. He would know. He was civil but not that social and look at him. The first green to hatch out was also not for him but he was interested to see where it went nonetheless. The second green had Impressed to a girl. More routine clapping though his eyes were on the green that hadn't Impressed. That and the remaining eggs. He had made one right guess so far. One in three. He was glad he wasn't the betting kind as he probably would have lost a lot.

Isori watched with rapt fascination as first a blue hatched and sauntered off, and then two greens followed suit. She elbowed Orena, who elbowed her right back, both of the twins amazed and enthralled at what they were witnessing. It was magical! Though the boy flying through the air hung on the big momma's teeth was enough to set both girls to tittering.
Isori went to step back out of the way of the Pixie green when the dragon came toward her, not really sure what she was supposed to do. She squeaked when the dragon reached out for her with those claws, and stumbled forward again when her gown was yanked on so strongly. "Ooh!" She squeaked, flailing her arms to keep from landing on the green that had so surreptitiously unbalanced her. "Oh!" She said, even as Orena flailed at her arm, trying to catch her.
Orena failed, but another lass didn't. Isori squeaked again as now she stumbled backwards. Inhaling sharply, she grinned and then giggled. "Yes, I'm fine! Thank you. I wasn't so sure I wasn't going to land on that one ..." Balance regained, she looked down at her gown and fingered the mess of holes that were left. "I'm going to need a new dress though. This one ... is barely covering me anymore."
"You don't hardly have time to be going and getting a new dress, you know." Orena remarked, wryly, keeping an eye on the Pixie green. Who knew what it was gonna do next!

Ashlyn's eyes widened with delight as the next eggs hatched both revealing greens. She was momentarily distracted when Jingth picked up a red robed lad and placed him among the candidates but once assured he was alright returned her attention to the hatchlings.
The second green seemed more interested in food but Ash caught the rainbows of impression in its eyes so she turned her attention to the other one. Could it be her dragon? She didn't know but the teen watched the dragonet hopefully.
'Please find yours little one.' she thought smiling at the green hatchling. She would hate to see it go between.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Connor and Yukiro watched the eggs hatch. The greens were pretty but it was obvious they weren't interested in the male candidates. The boys wondered what the other eggs held.
Hopefully all the eggs would hatch and impress safely. Neither boy wanted to see one go between. They kept their eyes on the remaining eggs though they were a bit surprised when Jingth picked up a lad in a red robe and plopped him with the rest of the candidates.
'Well you can't refuse a gold.' Connor thought and chuckled at the boys outburst. Yukiro just rolled his eyes. He'd rather not have the gold single him out for attention.

Aephon's glaring at the queen was interrupted by eggs hatching and he turned his glare on the newly hatched dragons. Stay away. Good, they were doing just that. Sympathy flared briefly as he noticed Ithanna heading towards the green near the meat. Did that mean she Impressed to one of the little monsters? Poor girl. He also felt mild concern for the girl who the other green was interested in, Impressing or not. She could be mauled at that rate. But. There was a pretty big but there. He couldn't help anyone if he actually Impressed.
So he did the only thing he could think of in that situation. He moved towards the gold and her pet brown. He was aiming to get in behind the gold. Out of sight, out of mind right? He hoped so anyways. Especially the out of mind bit. He glared at the gold as he approached. Two could play that game. She wanted him closer then he'd get closer to her. Annoying dragon. "By the way, you owe me an apology gold. This shirt was expensive," he snapped. "Not to mention you've invaded my mind...three times now. You have permission to apologize."
Was he acting a bit high and mighty? Yes, yes he was. He'd be damned if some gold would think herself better than him. He could walk into building without getting stuck...and walk on the ground without looking weird...and...he had opposable thumbs! Beat that stupid gold! She couldn't and he knew it. Really though, he was feeling a little threatened by the gold. She was forcing him to do something he didn't want to, and likely couldn't do - Impress. He knew Healing. He liked Healing. Why did he have to be or do or have anything else?
-----
T'san grinned at Meira's question and nodded. "Yeah. She's an odd one, that one. Quiet. Not very friendly. But she's funny anyways. And she wears way too much kohl." He shrugged slightly. "At the very least she's tough. She can handle a dragon. Not sure if they're a good match given I don't know her blue but..." he trailed off as he continued watching the hatching. He was also giving Meira a chance to digest the information. Sadly, he knew nothing about the girl that seemingly Impressed the green.
Dsoleth watched the new greens happily, offering a quick lick to Jingth. Cute! His babies were so cute! And very attractive, even if that one green was kinda pudgy. And and...what? Dsoleth glanced down at the little human moving towards...them? What was wrong with that one? It definitely didn't seem to want to Impress so why had it gone to the Touching? Tch. More complicated than His (not that T'san was al lthat complicated at all.)

Healer-Candidate was strange. Jingth blinked down at Aephon, and a rumble of definite amusement slipped from her throat, the gold dropping an affectionate lick onto Dsoleth’s shoulder – reassurance. She liked this Candidate-pet-Healer-person; his little frivolities were to be indulged. His words earned a blink of comprehension before Jingth casually extended her neck to nose him back into sight of the clutch. And you have my permission to Stand; I believe it balances out. And this will, for the record, be four.
“Ah…yeah, I saw the kohl part…” The murmur was accompanied by a light laugh, the goldrider nodding in comprehension. T’san’s words hadn’t really implied total approval, but it was good enough for her – she did, at some point, want to meet those who Impressed Jingth’s children. Maybe a weyrling lesson or something…? “Do you know any of the other Candidates? I didn’t get a chance to meet many of them…was kind of disappointed…”
The Pixie Green blinked, looking appropriately abashed, at Jenna’s words – she flicked her wings, offering a raspy little croon of apology, and even deigned to nudge Isori’s hand one last time. She hadn’t meant to frighten the girls; she hadn’t. But she was impatient. She didn’t linger long. Instead, the Pixie Green turned her head, sending one last long glance across the Sands and the Candidates, and then tilted her head up towards the Stands in what was clearly a last-ditch effort to find Hers. And –
Yes!
Her eyes brightened, clear, striking blue and emerald green, and the Pixie Green practically took off until she found the stairs into the Stands. Claws clicked against wood and stone as she pulled herself up as quickly as she could, tail swishing in determination. The attempts of Weyrfolk to slow her down or help her went ignored, but the Pixie Green took care not to hurt any of them, either. Her sides were heaving with the effort by the time she reached the level of the Stands she wanted.
Gently nudging past the legs of watchers, the Pixie Green gave a croon of pure, unadulterated delight, rubbing against the legs of Hers like a cat and squirming around to get as much contact as she possibly could. Raelove, I thought for a minute you had chosen not to come to me. Why on Pern weren’t you on the Sands? We must work on your sense of humor if it was a joke; surely you /knew/ your Quixoth would find you.
The rest of the eggs did not wait for the crowd to regain equilibrium over the Stands Impression, though. If anything, they seemed to be intent on Hatching faster – the Nymph Egg was shaking vigorously, practically vibrating, and the Leprechaun Egg was also rocking steadily, while, next to it, the Elf Egg was beginning to twitch as well.
The Nymph Egg proved to be the fastest, spilling a bright little green hatchling onto the Sands in an utter lack of elegance, wings and legs going everywhere. She was quick to spring back to her feet, huffing as she attempted to scrape the sand from her hide. A loud crack from the Leprechaun Egg distracted the Nymph Green, though, and she pinned a downright malevolent glare onto her clutchsibling. How dare it steal her limelight?
As the Leprechaun Egg failed to cease its infuriating actions, the Nymph Green marched right up to it – and squawked, loudly, as the top came off, the violet-blue head nearly popping her in the chin as it uncurled from the Leprechaun Egg.
The Leprechaun Blue chirruped in undeniable amusement, and then crooned flatteringly at the Nymph Green, who mantled her wings, hissing in disapproval, and then, as further amusement brightened her brother’s eyes, she yowled like a feline and smacked his egg with one paw. Jingth bugled as the Leprechaun Blue, still trapped in his egg, gave a startled eep, tumbling backwards. His egg smacked into the Elf Egg, sending both occupants sprawling out in a sticky mess of legs and wings.
The Nymph Green, clearly sulking at her mother’s negative attention, flipped her tail defiantly, stalking off to the edge of the clutch to preen viciously, attempting to knock the sand grains off of her body. Stupid, stupid sand.
After his initial surprise, though, the Leprechaun Blue, who had found himself tangled with the highly disgruntled-looking Elf Blue, submitted to his brother’s flailing – mostly. The Elf Blue’s intentions soon became apparent: He had his brother pinned down under him, hissing and generally sounding entirely unfriendly, and was poking at him all over with careful talons and his nose alike, looking for injuries even as the Leprechaun Blue, eyes bright with mischievous amusement, squirmed. Ticklish!

Pixie Green Name: Quixoth Impressed to: Raebeli Color: Green (#C8DACE) Appearance: Quixoth is tiny. Full-grown, she’ll end up as one of the smallest dragons in the Weyr, although an extra length to her tail will probably ensure she’s never the smallest. Despite her lack of size, though, Quixoth is nicely built. Hers is not a slender whiplash frame, though; Quixoth is on the heavier side. Her excess weight will likely all be muscle, given her competitive drive (if anything, Hers will have to restrain her from exercising, not encourage it). However, her neck slims out near the top, ending in a very elegant head with a concave profile – proof that she is, indeed, muscular and not chubby.
‘Graceful’ is not a word that could accurately be used to describe Quixoth. Rather, ‘efficient’ would be the best adjective. Each motion is calculated carefully to get somewhere, and honestly, Quixoth couldn’t care less if she bounces up and down or looks like she’s about to fly straight into something. For the most part, she does pull it off with some semblance to proper form, be it walking or flying or even swimming, but it’s more of a happy accident than deliberate.
A very pale shade of jade green, is Quixoth. In fact, she resembles jade in that she has a particular gleam when she moves, too, soft enough to go unnoticed for the most part, but definitely there. One just has to look for it, a definite sign of good health. Though her hide has more than a slight tinge of gray to it, and is light enough to look simply off-white, elegant dark jade lines twine up her legs, fading around her shoulders and flanks, making her ‘true’ color plain to behold – if her size didn’t make it obvious enough that she could never be anything but green.
Such a driven creature as Quixoth shouldn’t really need any assets, but she received them, nonetheless (but pity the one that ever implies they’re necessary to her). She has extraordinary vision at night – not quite as crystal-clear as that in the daylight, but certainly more than clear enough to allow her to fly without trouble and possibly go between, if it’s a risk Hers is willing to take.
Personality: Pride without arrogance; romance without dreaminess; determination without aggression. A series of contradictions is, at first, what seems to make up much of Quixoth. Certainly the green isn’t a shallow creature in any sense of the word. Definitely intelligent, Quixoth typically makes lovely company with a cheerful sense of humor. She’s certainly not lacking in confidence, nor in drive; she’ll throw herself at every challenge and enigma that comes her way, and adores any kind of puzzle. That includes dragons and people, too; Quixoth loves trying to ‘figure out’ body language and how people tick.
But Quixoth could never be described as insensitive, either. She’s adept at picking up near-invisible signals that most would overlook completely, and she can certainly tell when her presence isn’t welcome. That isn’t to say that she’ll leave, if she feels that whoever it is needs her company, but she’ll know nonetheless. Very empathetic, Quixoth is a loyal, sympathetic friend at all times, to whomever might be in need of someone to tell secrets to (and she’ll never repeat them unless it’s necessary), a shoulder to cry on, or just something to take their mind off of boredom.
Quixoth does, however, have a temper, something that can be triggered only by pushing certain buttons. For one, this green, in spite of (or perhaps because of) her size, insists that anything males can do, greens can do, too, and probably better. Therefore, despite the fact that Quixoth loves the idea of having a permanent-mate, most attempts at flirting, unless it appeals to her intelligence instead of her beauty, will be rejected harshly. If they wouldn’t say it to another male, she’s not interested in hearing it! Likewise, she’ll often throw herself into challenges too complex or difficult for a creature of her size; Hers will be hard-pressed to talk her out of something once Quixoth makes up her mind.

Ashlyn watched the Pixie green scramble up the stands to find hers. She was glad the little one had impressed. She turned her head to the remaining eggs. Another green and two blues hatched to join their siblings. Apparently one of the blues was wanting to make sure his brother hadn't been hurt. Ash chuckled at the babies and the green's irate expression. 'She's so cute.' the teen thought smiling. She wondered who would get the green and the blues. They were really pretty creatures and she did hope they impressed. They were taking their time about it though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yukiro watched three more eggs hatch to reveal a green and two blues. It was evident the green had wanted all the attention and he chuckled at her irritated expression. 'She's going to be a handful.' he thought watching the hatchlings. Connor leaned over. "She's going to be a handful for whoever gets her isn't she?" he asked and Yukiro nodded. "Definately." the blonde agreed. The brothers watched the hatchlings with amused expressions. This hatching was certainly interesting that was for sure.

The lack of blood, and Isori's giggling confirmation of being unharmed, helped to settled Jenna's stern features back into a smile. A sparing glance went to the Pixie Green that trotted toward the stands. Her eyes then returned to the two twins, eyes falling down to the claw torn holes. "It's not so bad. Still have your privates covered. Can just pretend you came in your underwear – why do we have to wear these things anyway?"
Jenna plucked at her own robe until the sound of Jingth's bugle. Angry golds were scary golds. Not that Jenna felt afraid, but cautious, definitely. The cause of the conflict became clear as the green skulked away from her two.. wrestling? .. brothers. None of them seemed to venturing their way, and Jenna did her best not to feel impatient, instead turning a grin onto Isori and Orena. "See the guy up there trying to hide behind the dragons? Probably got his shirt ripped up by Jingth. I think he's being shy about showing a little skin."
Not, she didn't really think that was the deal, but making a jab at him from afar to two giggly girls? Why not. If it also served to make Isori feel a bit better about having ripped garments, all the better.

Aephon flinched as the rather large head lowered and he found himself wondering if she would eat him. No! she wasn't allowed! Absolutely not. He wanted to li- huh? Huh huh huh? He stumbled back as she pushed him and ended up losing his balance and falling on the sand. He crossed his arms and refused to stand up. Thankfully his pants provided some protection from the hot Sands. "That wasn't an apology. And what if I don't want to Stand? You can't make me want to Impress." The fact that he wasn't physically standing was his quiet way of rebelling since he had no other choice.
The sounds coming from behind him made him crane his neck around to see. Ah. They went into the Stands too? There really wasn't a safe place was there? Oh but...the stands people could be seen so maybe the key really was to be out of sight. In that case sitting down and being as small as possible was the best chance he had left - not that he really believed any of them would come his way at all, even if he'd been standing over with the other candidates. He was about to turned back to glare at the gold when he noticed more babies hatching.
Hn. He refused to think of them as cute but they were providing entertainment. It looked like there might even be a fight...Jingth's effective response, however, had him covering his ears and glaring at her in annoyance. So now she uses something other than her mind to express soemthing. When he's close enough to be deafened by it. Thanks stupid gold. Clearly she had it in for him. He turned his back stubbornly on the hatchlings when he noticed the one blue pinning the other one down. Huff.
-----
Dsoleth blinked over at Jingth when she licked him. Oh? She liked the brat? Well, he was entitled to his opinion and he didn't like him. Rude. Arrogant. Rude. Loud. Whatever. He'd just ignore him. Fighting babies were more important. While Jingth bugled, Dsoleth mentally addressed his green daughter. Babymine, you won't find Yours like that, he said softly. He approved of the green that had gone into the stands to get Hers. That was the way to do things.
T'san chuckled with amusement. Yes, it was a rather noticeable aspect of her character. Why she saw the need to put so much on he'd never know but it definitely defined her. He shook his head lightly, more out of habit than because she'd be paying attention to the movement. "Nah. I met her by accident. Haven't met any of the others. I'm sure I'll get to know them though. Dsoleth is no doubt going to drag me along to meet them at some point."

Emoyan finally made it to the hatching himself, and paused a moment to see what was going on. Wow, but he'd almost missed the whole thing. Three impressed, three more hatched, and only two left as eggs. This was a very fast hatching... but then it was small, too. He scanned the candidates still arrayed on the sands, looking for traces of anything amiss. He saw one girl with a ripped robe, but she had two other girls standing close with her, and didn't seem the worse for the wear. No blood at any rate. A few of the lads were scattered around, and ... was that someone laying in the sand? Emoyan's first thought was that someone had gotten hurt. But so close to Jingth? Had Jingth done it? Skirting around the edge of the sands, behind the Candidates, Emoyan made short work of ringing the cavern and coming up where the two clutch parents were, along with that body in the sand.
As he drew nearer, it became evident the kid in the sand was not hurt. If anything he looked like he was throwing a temper tantrum, and still watching the hatching. Just ... what ...? In Faranth's name ... Emoyan's face twitched a slight frown as he strode over to where Aephon was sprawled on the hot sand. For a moment he just stood there, looking down at the kid. "What in dragon's fire are you doing?" He asked, sternly, before reaching down and grabbing the lad by an arm to haul him to his feet.
No Candidate robes, either. Tch. "Are you asking to get mauled, or what?" He said, taking a moment to flick the sand off of the lad's back and making sure he was going to stay standing up before he let go of him.
Isori glanced over at Jenna, and nodded again. "I suppose so." She answered, not bothering to point out that she wasn't wearing any undies. That... was a tad bit too much information. She just hoped the holes in her gown didn't announce that for her. After all ... what fun was wearing undies?
Orena looked at Isori for a moment, before giggling again a little bit. But both twins turned to look at Aephon at Jenna's prompting, and Isori shrugged. "If he did something to upset the Queen, he's lucky that's all he got."
"I bet it was fun to fly like that though." Orena answered, with a grin.
But shortly both of them ended up with gazes riveted on the spectacle out on the sand. Three more! One green this time, and two blues. Who seemed to be ... well ... that was a tad disturbing to watch. Especially since they couldn't really see what was going on for all the bits of shell. "Are they ...?" Orena started, uncertainly.
