My Dinner with Detrith (T'vis)

The other bluerider gave literally no readable reaction to his rejection. She didn't even question it, leaving T'vis standing there rather infuriated as she turned on her heel to walk away. He stood there for awhile before he broke into a sprint after her, grabbing her shoulder once he had caught up to her and turning her to face him.

"So then are you going to offer up your services to every member in the Wing then? Is that all you're good for? Fighting and fucking? You know why you make me uneasy? It isn't because I am distractingly attracted to you. It is because you have no personality. You have nothing that makes you you. People rush away when you approach or get that look in their eye, you know the one I am talking about, because you are such a sharding bore. The world isn't at war anymore Lilu, and Thread does not fall every day. People aren't made to be mindless fighting machines. You have no emotion in you unless you are not getting your way. That is why you make me uneasy. If you had any kind of a personality then I would have said yes to the offer of sleeping with you in a second! But you don't. You are hardly even a person."

He wasn't sure what exactly had caused the outburst - perhaps it was the fact that Detrith had a strong disliking of Venideth and it was fueling his already present annoyance. Perhaps it was Apima's jealousy of T'vis' attention towards Lilu. Perhaps it was the fact that Helios was so good with the other gender and he absolutely failed with them - the conversation with Lilu had been the closest he'd gotten to a woman since he came to the Weyr, Apima's run not withstanding. Whatever it was that had caused it, he wasn't exactly sorry - though he fully expected a violent outburst from the other rider.

[Aftershock]

He was lucky his lumbering run was so loud, else her reaction to him grabbing her shoulder and turning her around would have been much worse. She listened to him rant, her brows furrowing slightly, and when he seemed to have spent his verbal load, she carefully grabbed the hand that was still on her shoulder, and slowly twisted his fingers painfully backwards, her face not showing much in terms of anger, but her aura sending out waves of overt threat that might end up making T'vis shiver in fear.

Moving her face close to him, her words thick with venom, she replied, "I am a dragonrider, the same as you. Unlike you, I was BORN to be a dragonrider. I've been a dragonrider TWICE now, and it is my LIFE. I was made to fight Thread and keep those who cannot defend themselves safe, so that they can do what THEY were born to do. I live every day dealing with riders like you, riders who see their Impression to a dragon as some kind of free gift, a powerful friend they can use to screw around with and make themselves feel special. Impression means you ARE special... but that specialness comes with RESPONSIBILITY. Responsibility you and others like you ignore because you're so caught up in your own drama, your own minds... so caught up, you ignore the role you play in the bigger world."

Releasing his fingers, she poked him in the chest, hard, and concluded, "When Thread DOES fall, I'll be ready. I train, and I do what I need to in order to do the job I was born for the best I can. If I fight Thread near you, you can be assured you'll have the best rider watching the back of you and Yours. I only wish I could say the same knowing you might be watching mine, and I only hope I don't fail due to you refusing to do what's necessary to do your job properly and letting me down... letting down everyone who depends on you." With that, she turned yet again and stalked away.

Whatever reaction he had expected from his outburst of anger - it was not this. He winced as she gripped his fingers and pushed them backwards, forcing him to relinquish his grip on her arm. Then she was in his face spitting words at him in such a hateful tone part of him wanted to shrink away, but he managed to stand still.

The other bluerider said her piece and was walking off again. T'vis could think of a million things to say in response to her claim that you could only be a rider or have a life but could not do both. In the back of his mind he wanted to scream at her and tell her that because of her attitude it was unlikely ANYONE in the Weyr would truly ever watch her back - if they did it would be due to duty. Friendships and loyalty could speak volumes more than mere duty - friends fought with a fierceness duty could never inspire in them when another friend was in danger. Didn't she know that? Didn't she see that she was ultimately just hurting herself in the long run? And to claim that no one in the Weyr cared apart from her! Ugh!

Brooding over the inner storm her words had forced to the forefront of his mind he kicked a rock in the direction she had stalked off in. Detrith circled about in the sky before coming to land not far off. Despite not having his riding leathers on or his riding gear, T'vis approached his blue and used the offered foreleg to boost himself up. A leg slid over his dragon's back in practiced grace as he settled his body as close to the blue as possible. Detrith's wings made a powerful stroke and pushed the pair into the air, Helios stayed sitting on the fence nearly purring at the green who held his attention.
