Should have taken the opportunity to strike him.
F'lix smiled at the other, a very playful glow to his golden eyes as he met and kept the brownrider's jovial gaze. He gave a patient nod to the words. Yes gray–jaded to the point of not caring either way. Really, T'san should have been the one wondering about his luck that day. F'lix could be quite entertaining, but, unfortunately, the humor would only be for his benefit.
Sure, yes, F'lix admitted the fact that he and T'san were on the same side–but his views on that were far from being normal considering his Benden origins. It didn't matter that they lived in the same place, fought on the same side–and F'lix knew he was no longer at Benden, but he had spent his entire life there. Hard to forget it. There no one trusted each other. A person didn't test another's patience unless they were picking for a fight. T'san was just.. asking to be hurt.
Eyes narrowed slightly, but it only seemed to add to how amusing he found the words. Plaything. The brownrider didn't even pause before spitting out the derogatory term. Did F'lix, on some subconscious level, advertise he was a toy to be played with? He must. Ja'kin had shaped him well. The smile took on a more wry touch. A worried brush from Saboth, I promised Dsoleth you would not hurt His. Hn, F'lix broke eye contact and gazed over the river. Did you mean it? No, but..
F'lix could feel it, Saboth didn't want to hurt Dsoleth's feelings. Annoying, couldn't his dragon be a tad more apathetic and anti-social? This brownrider was just.. begging for it too. F'lix shifted his attention back to T'san, smile still in place but to a lesser degree. He gave the man a slow head to toe look over, "I don't think you have the capacity to play the games I like for fun." He tsked, shaking his head once to each side. Challenging the other? A bit, but F'lix didn't think T'san would bite at the bait. He hadn't before. "Although, you are certainly acting some sort of role. What is the purpose behind giving off the impression of being an idiot?"
—
I've had a lot of time to practice. Since his preferred being out alone in the jungle rather than deal with those living in the Weyr. Drawing in a deep breath, Saboth plunged into the deeper currents, legs tucking in close to his body as he used mostly his folded wings and long tail to steer him through the water. He touched against the bottom, turning his head back to watch Dsoleth.
Stay still here. I'm going to gather some and scare them back your way. Eyes whirling with amusement, Saboth set off against the currents. He knew all the spots the fish liked to collect. And so he began, curling around large boulders and flashing his pale underside against the light to scare them in a particular direction. They were easy to follow, their shiney scales communicated between them.. and Saboth had figured out how to use that against them.
Spotting a larger one hugging the slow bottom current, Saboth herded the fish around, collecting the big one into the mess and then shooing them back toward Dsoleth. Incoming.

T'san more or less acknowledged the danger of poking and prodding at other people mentally. If anything, he was asking to be hurt, if only to laugh at them getting so mad. How long he'd managed to survive in the North sometimes amused him. He suspected that such behaviour at Benden would have spelled an early end for the brownrider. If he ever got the chance to ask those at Fort why they hadn't gutted him he probably would. Too late now.
An amused little smirk found its way onto T'san's face. That had definitely got a reaction from the bluerider. Something not quite likeable about being called a plaything, huh? The brownrider would keep that in mind for later. He was just that annoying. T'san blinked as F'lix looked away before glancing towards the river. A little tired of standing around and physically doing nothing, the brownrider sat down with little grace just as he saw F'lix looking him over. The obvious 'like what you see' retort was implied when he quirked a brow and the edges of his mouth twitched upward.
The challenge made him snort. "Probably not," he admitted. "Dare I ask?" It was open to both the literal answer or the answer that generally came after the next question - 'what games do you prefer?' T'san shrugged at the man's question and smiled. "Why would I need a purpose to act like an idiot? Well, I suppose acting like an idiot normally makes people avoid putting you in positions of responsibility. Faranth knows why I was made wingsecond." The memory upon learning that fact still made him shake his head.
Dsoleth filled his lungs and dipped below the surface, the first of his three eye lids closing over his excitedly whirling eyes. Fishing like this was something humans couldn't do so well. They didn't have the ability to hold their breath as long or swim as fast. He swam deeper and anchored himself to the bottom to avoid drifting upwards or backwards. He attempted a croon but switched the mental speech ruefully when the water distorted the sound. I get the fun job? the brown teased slightly.
The brown squirmed slightly, kicking up a bit of the mud in the process as Saboth informed him the fish were coming. This was exciting! As he saw them approach he made himself wait. Just a little longer...Now! He kicked away from the bottom and rush at the fish. Mm. Rather a lot. The big one caught his attention and he focused on that one, jaws snapping around the fish even as he clawed at another couple of fish and flared his wings to stun or trap some others.
Fun, the brown commented with amusement. They weren't particularily smart creatures, getting stuck in his wings. He felt some of them butting at the membrane in a futile attempt to escape. Several discovered the option of going around and got away. Herdbeasts are a bit smarter. Not by a whole lot but still smarter.

Which game would have best suited the situation? F'lix took a moment to reflect, filing through his memories on what he had observed or endured at Benden. He didn't actively practice the sadistic activities, but he had seen enough to know how. If he wanted to, F'lix could torture a man–but it really didn't sit well with him. He didn't get enjoyment out of it. At least not the long, drawn-out process.. but, smashing in a man's nose for getting on his nerves–that he would do. Break a finger or two to get someone to let go, yes. F'lix knew violence, grew up with it, so it became so.. strange to be at Selenitas. He just didn't understand these people. Likely he never would.
Oh, right, which game? Breaking fingers, yes. See how many fingers it took before T'san shut his mouth. If that didn't work, move to cutting them off, top knuckles first, one by one, then move down the to the second row.. always leave the thumb last so he might be a fraction useful and have something to pawn himself with at night.
A gentle nudging came from Saboth, again F'lix glanced out over the river. Silly dragon. Saboth may not show much emotion, but when he did.. in the faintest way, it always meant more than it seemed. I'm not going to hurt him. Calm down I don't like where your thoughts go. Remembering a few things isn't going to do anything. It always starts as one. I thought /I/ was the pessimist. I'm just being /realistic/.
F'lix gave a snort of his own, more to Saboth's answer than to the returning look T'san gave him. A single eyebrow arched–he had been trying to pick out any further tell-tale signs from the man's posture, not giving him an appreciative once over. But, better to have his actions be mistaken as flirtations–that part F'lix did not mind. He gave a look, disappointment; 'seen better' so to say.
No longer interested in a game (because T'san had offered that there was a game involved, but frankly F'lix did find anything of the sort. An empty offer–what a shame.) F'lix stepped over behind the sitting T'san. If the brownrider didn't mind physical contact than the bluerider would press the matter. Walking away without a word did appeal to F'lix, but he was bored and he did like to get reactions out of others; be them good or bad. Preferably bad. (Admittedly, his earlier musing about torturing made him become more touchy-feely. Nothing like feeling the lifeblood thrumming under fingertips before flesh was open and blood spilled.) He began with a touch to the top of T'san's head, threading fingers through hair to run the touch down the back of the skull.. curling lightly to grip the strands and gently tilt the brownrider's head back, only slightly, to better see his face. His other hand touched the side of T'san's neck, tips settling over the palpable pulse..
"You need a purpose, because otherwise you wouldn't have to act. Like right now, you admit you like to annoy people and behave like a dimglow, and even though you let me know this, you continue. I don't really understand the perks of letting everyone think you're an idiot all the time." He lightly shrugged at the words. "Don't worry T'san, if you keep behaving like a moron, as soon as we get more riders to replaced the ones that died, you can go back to being.. lazy?" Irresponsible? Useless?
F'lix tilted his head down at the brownrider. "Your accent pins you as being from the north." Usually, from his experiences, northerners tended to be more.. wary. "Decide to take a vacation, or do you have a good reason for being here?"
—
Saboth did a tight twirl through the water, wings wrapping around his body, as graceful in the river as he could be in the sky. He rumbled in amusement, the vibrations traveling through the aquatic environment better than it did through the air. Easy to catch fish when they are scared toward you, herding them is something else.. Such small targets, easily darting any direction instead of the single plane a herdbeast ran.
Your turn. Saboth playfully snagged a stunned fish out from under Dsoleth's wing before snaking away to re-surface and take in a new chestful of air. Don't have to scare them back at me. But chasing them is more fun than catching them, I think.

T'san probably would have laughed at the game. Probably....and then run very far away. He very much liked full use of his hands, thank you very much. A sprained wrist shortly after he'd arrived had put one hand mostly out of comission for a while. He had not enjoyed the Gather to the fullest because of that, no doubt. He'd be sulking about that silently for some time yet. The sudden snort made T'san blink slightly. Oh right, no time to be sulking when he had company.
T'san rolled his eyes in a clear 'as if' at F'lix's dismissal. Tsan, vain? A little bit. Or rather, he knew he was attractive and overplayed it. There was only so long T'san would play the flirtation game though...Benden was really bad about homosexuals but Fort wasn't entirely supporting of them either. Flirt too often with the men and some of them decided to try and re-educate you. He'd chosen the path of least resistance: flirt with women lots, men only occasionally. He'd still had problem though. His weyrmate had been a guy after all...but sometimes the excuse of "do you see any other dragons winning the green's flights?" worked.
Movement brought T'san back to the present and he watched F'lix move curiously until he could no longer see him without turning his head. That was just too much for him while he was in his lazy mood. He felt the hand in his hair and tried to fight back a shiver. Mm, failure. He sighed under his breath as his head was tilted back and he quirked a brow at the bluerider. An incredibly cheesy Do you like what you feel? wound its way through the brownrider's brain as he felt the slight pressure of F'lix's fingers on his neck. I could do without the lame comments from my own mind, he thought idly.
T'san grinend slightly then responded to F'lix with a sarcastic, "Oh no! You figured me out! Not only that I must have some secret, absurd purpose to acting the way I do but I do it to convince the higher-ups that I'm useless." He snorted softly. "If you must know, I find it fun. No fun in being serious all the time and people react differently when I act like an idiot. Although I have to admit your idea is quite tempting. They wouldn't keep me on as wingsecond if someone less of an idiot came along." Really, the brownrider was quite lazy.
He sighed more noticeably when the topic of the north came up. Hey, he didn't call F'lix on it! Fine then. "I suppose a mix of both," he answered in a completely serious tone. "Vacation from the more..intense fighting up north and really, isn't wanting to be away from all - most - of that reason enough? I suppose you came from the north as a spy to advise your higher-ups when would be a strategic time to strike?" Considering that the accusation was almost serious it was a bit odd that the brownrider suddenly grinned. "Now see, isn't this fun?"
---
Dsoleth snorted slightly at aquabatics and was amused by the giant bubbles that escaped from his snout. He liked swimming but he generally didn't stay under for this long. Saboth seemed very comfortable in the water and he secretly admired the agile blue. That is true, he said simply as he examined the memroy of the fish coming towards him. The brown grabbed up another fish as Saboth did and snagged His' attention briefly. Do play nice, Mine. Saboth showed me how to fish.
As the fish disappeared into the brown's stomach he broke the surface of the water and gave the blue a little splash in return for the one earlier. He had not forgotten! This should be interesting. What do you bet I come back with one or two only? The brown let himself breathe for a moment before taking another huge breath and diving back towards the bottom. I don't know how many I'll get but I'l ltry and scare them back this way anyways.

Aw, F'lix lips quirked upon feeling the slight shiver, did his touch make T'san disgusted? Good. Maybe T'san would do something about it instead of prattle. Of course not, but F'lix did hear the sighs, and one or two of those grins were not as exuberant as they had once been. Perhaps he was finally wearing down the brownrider's patience. F'lix would much rather have a scuffle then partake in pointless conversation. Words, in the Bendenite's opinion, could not compare to actions.
Lightly he traced fingertips down the pulse in T'san's neck. Golden eyes slitted, concentrating on his touch rather than pay much mind to the brownrider's sarcasm. His fingers trailed back up, moving just under the jawline before pausing. "Fun." He repeated, eyebrow twitching before a smile slid across his features. Again he didn't see the appeal to behaving the part of an idiot to earn reactions–although he did like to earn responses, only through different means. Which his flirtatious actions would easily affirm that fact. "T'san, my reaction to you being an idiot is to–" Firmly he curved his fingers over the edge of the jawline, the other hand still in hair. He made a slight jerk, not too rough, but enough to get the point across. The idea: snap the other's neck in one deft twist. "I've never broken a man's neck before." Always slitted throats. "But you tempt me to try it out and see what's so great about it. That does sound like fun, for me."
Hearing, yes, he could remember the sound of a neck being broken in such a fashion. The crunching, the limp fall of body. In a morbid way, the memory pleased him. F'lix touch softened, both hands moving to either side of T'san's face as he bent low over the other–bring his face closer. "So why don't you try being serious with me." F'lix words purred, "You might like those reactions better."
A grin appeared, along with slitted eyes of that oh-so-reminisce of a overly pleased feline for all the wrong reasons. At least he had gotten T'san to use a more serious tone, but his choice of words were not much better. "Is it that obvious? I guess I can let you in on the secret, since it's just you and me here.. " Yes, the dragon had been lured away to fish, had he not? F'lix moved closer, lowering in volume. "The best time is now. So many have died from the plague, others mysteriously disappearing. This Weyr is weak, and filled with pathetic defects from the north. It would be easy to finish it all off now."
He leaned the rest of the way, brushing the tip of his nose down the bridge of T'san's nose. "But if I did that, then with all the fighting and dying.. well, that would ruin my vacation. And that wouldn't be much fun."
—
Saboth shook his head, after being splash. It shouldn't make a difference really, already being thoroughly sodden, but subconscious reactions were like that. Greens whirled in his eyes at Dsoleth's message. This was fun, Saboth decided, much better than hanging around grumpy war dragons.
I imagine one. A tiny little darter of a fish too. He teased, diving back down after the brown–intending to follow him around to watch. Saboth knew the brown would not be as agile as himself, and his darker hide didn't let him blend in as easily. The very sight of him approaching might scare the fish into a panicked frenzy.
Let's bring some back to Ours. The message came out with a mischievous tone.

Disgust wasn't quite the right word. Surprise maybe...and a slight bit of longing for a touch not born of a Flight. It was somewhat unusual for someone to be touching him. Normally he projected enough of an annoying barrier of sorts that others kept the physical contact to a minimum. He looked up at F'lix searchingly. He certainly was an odd one. T'san snorted as F'lix mimed snapping his neck. "Oooh, scary," he commented dryly, wiggling his fingers up at the bluerider. It was odd to be in the presence of someone like F'lix. Two people looking for reactions in different ways...Interesting but bound to be a power struggle. At least that's how T'san viewed it. Each was fighting to be the one causing reactions and in a way that was a power over the other.
The brownrider quirked a brow as F'lix brought his face closer. That only tempted T'san to do one of two things: kiss him or headbut him. Really, the bluerider should be more careful. Despite the tone and words, F'lix wasn't quite able to attract T'san attention away from the interesting choice he'd been given. "Mm." He grunted absently at F'lix's suggestion. Oh wait, what? The sound could almost be taken as agreement to whatever the bluerider had been saying. He concentrated on the bluerider's next words and found himself rolling his eyes. Why had he brought that up?
A better question would be why F'lix's expression actually made him a little worried. He reached up with one hand and laid it on the bluerider's cheek. "You're weird." And that was probably one of T'san's better non-sequiturs. Or maybe not. He let his hand drift to F'lix's nose and lightly grabbed the bridge of it. "Well, that's fascinating and all coming from another pathetic Northern defect but also not necessarily true. While I'm sure some are not-so-great fighters there ae probably plenty others who are actually pretty decent." With that T'san moved both hands to rest on F'lix's ad slowly pried them off. Once they were he playfully licked F'lix's nose and somehow managed to roll out from under the bluerider.
He would have turned a self-satisfied grin on the bluerider if not for the quickly approaching sound of wings...
—
Dsoleth rumbled amusement at the returning tease. Although he really didn't like the sound underwater...and it was counterproductive, he noted. The few fish that had been nearby quickly swam away from the sound. Or were they swimming away from the sight of his bulk? One might be right, he commented with a slightly sad note.
The mischievous note in the blue's mindvoice made Dsoleth look back and blink. That is a very, very good suggestion. With that idea to egg him on the brow returned to his task. He spotted a group of fish and swam towards them at an angle that would hopefully drive them towards Saboth. Only a bit of luck...of the group only four or five were actually going the direction he wanted. Practise would be needed...Impatient, the brown snapped his jaws shut around a dish and herded the single remaining fish that hadn't gone off in a totally other direction to Saboth. Well...at least one made it to you?
The fish squirming in his mouth made the dragon want to swallow but he intended to bring it to His. I'll go bring this one to Mine, he told Saboth, swimming up to the surface. He swam in to the shore and then took to the air still dripping. His plan was ruined when he heard His shout, "I swear Dsoleth if you try dumping water on me I'm going to take those straps for a sevenday!" You wouldn't! Dsoleth landed some distance from His, eyes whirling an alarmed colour. Liquid dripped out of the dragon's mouth slowly, betraying the fact that along with a fish he had a mouthful of water.
"I would and you know it." T'san gave an almost comradely amused look to F'lix. "Dragons! Feh." Dsoleth was visibly moping as his rider approached him. What was so bad about getting wet? Taking from his special items was ten times meaner than anything he'd have done! "Aww, poor beast. You're welcome to give the weirdo there a soaking?" T'san indicated F'lix and got a wet right arm for his trouble. Sorry, it leaked out~

That was a curious look, F'lix decided, as T'san gave him that.. inquisitive scan. The bluerider didn't know what to make of it, or what the brownrider was searching for, but the waggling fingers pushed the ponderous thought aside. The smile grew and waned in the span of a breathe–a rising of eagerness to snap one of those fingers, then the receding of violent urges.
F'lix likely would have laughed, at either option, if T'san had acted on one of them. Golden eyes flicked over to the hand, curiously watching it rise until it was out of his immediate sight and touching against his cheek. The following comment earned a chuckle from the former Bendenite. "You have no idea." The grabbing of his nose however, F'lix did not approve of and pulled his face away from the touch, ending any friendliness he may have been showing.
A skeptical eyebrow rose, but he chose not reply to the speak of defects and worthy fighters–likely because T'san had licked the end of nose. With a low growl the bluerider took a step to pursue the fleeing brownrider, wiping the back of his hand over his nose as he went. Only T'san's dragon chose that moment to return, and F'lix ended his pursuit, even going so far as to step away, hand reflexively dropping low near the hilt at his thigh. He didn't trust other dragons.
Saboth happily followed after Dsoleth, the fish the brown had herded toward him hanging from the corner of his muzzle. You'll get better He cheerily reassured Dsoleth before splashing up into the shallows. The sound of T'san shouting and the worried whirl in the brown's eyes made Saboth suddenly duck his head, the fish dropping from his muzzle. Coyly he looked down and swirled his tail tip through the water, feigning disinterest when really he felt worried that he had gotten the other in trouble. They were just having fun..
F'lix sent his dragon a gentle reassurance. Saboth quickly turned his attention onto his bonded. You didn't hurt him. F'lix eyes quickly narrowed into a glare. Yeah, he's lucky you liked him. Takes the fun out of it when you tell them I'm not going to hurt them.[/b] Saboth didn't comment, only rumbled in amusement. At least His was no longer brooding or thinking about him. A thanks went out to Dsoleth. Mine is in a better mood.
Without so much as a goodbye, F'lix turned on heel and headed for the trees. No, he did not want a soaking. The bluerider didn't like to get wet, and he especially didn't want that brown dragon near him. He only paused near the tree line, glancing over his shoulder at the brownpair. He spared the man a smirk before moving into the jungle. "I guess I'll be seeing you at drills, since you're S'rei's new wingsecond."
Saboth sat in the water, feeling a tad awkward at being left alone with the brownpair. Really, he is.

T'san was amused at the chuckle. That was at least somewhat more normal, although normal could and often was a bit too boring. With weird people it was more fun to get normal reactions from them, for some reason. Retreating from a nose grab was normal enough too. Good to know his new...toy? Something...Was still human somewhere under his northern shell.
He smiled smugly as F'lix didn't approach him with Dsoleth's bulk nearby. His last move had been rather daring, and considering the bluerider's growl, didn't want to unnecessarily risk himself. At least the brown was being a good shield of sorts. He patted Dsoleth's leg reassuringly. He'd really only been teasing...he knew by now just how much those items meant to the brown.
With his rider's mental assurance that he would not actually take his straps the brown brightened almost immediately. Do you think little Spice kitty would like a fish? I caught it with the intention of dropping it on you but maybe something for our furry friend? T'san smiled at his beast's kindness. A fish for Spice...yes the feline would probably like that. At Saboth's words the brown half preened, half crooned happily. That is good! Then Mine has done his task, the striped brown replied cheerfully.
Dsoleth passed the message along and T'san watched F'lix leave the area feeling sommehow accomplished. He hadn't learned much, and yet he had...sort of. He shrugged to himself and nearly jumped as he was addressed. Oh. He chuckled and waved slightly in acknowledgement. "So he knew I was S'rei's wingsecond. That makes figuring out his name easier..." He mused aloud to his dragon audience. Speaking of the dragons....
T'san climbed up onto Dsoleth's wet neck and fastened a couple of the more major safety straps to his belt. It was only a short flight after all. From his perch on the large brown the man waved at Saboth. "See you and the grump at wing drills, Blue," he said as Dsoleth also said his farewell. Wings drills should be interesting. as you can see, Mine is eager to be off so good bye until the next time. I'm glad Yours is back to normal.
The brown opened his mouth enough to let the water run out before pushing off the ground powerfully and flying off to his weyr.
