(... owo *cant think of things* )
"Just some idiot who didn't know who he was fooling with. I got him back later." Answering responding to the second thing he said first, Saraina turned the conversation back unto the comment about the 'pets'. "If you have the patience, then Faranth speed to you. They drive me nuts sometimes. I guess it's worth it, since both Dragonkin are extremely loyal... but honestly. They are a pain in the butt." As if he was summoned, Saraina looked up as a loud pop shattered the momentary silence, and a rush of cold air hit her face. The large, dark Blue flitter trilled her a greeting before diving at her chest, pulling up soon enough to hover just above her breasts before dropping down, hooking his talons into her shirt so he could turn and look at the others. "And this is Zor. He tends to appear whenever I'm talking about him... he was my first Blue, he's actually older than Hokth." Watching as Zor poofed up in pride, the young Dragonrider itched his eyeridges before returning her attention on T'kal.
"Good. Never give up, never surrender. Fin used to say that all the..." Her voice faded as her mind jumped to a face in her past, but the moment lasted only a moment. "... time. You'll get fit in no time." Grinning ruefully, her painful memory forgotten in a split moment, the Bluerider leaned forward and rested her elbows on her erect knees. "Even better. If you're riding the watch circit, try to get the mornings off, if you haven't signed up yet. Most people like the early shift because they wont have to do it later on in the day, especially since it gets pretty hot round midday and early afternoon. Mornings should be easy to get out of. I chose late after noon and early evening, a double back to back shift."
Tilting his head to the side slightly, the teal colored Blue flicked his tail around, thinking about what his Clutchbrother had said. /The drugs the Humans fed Yours were that bad? I could not see my Rainmine being so dipsy that she could not ride with me./ It wasn't a pleasant thought to think about, if he disliked bing to far away from his, he would probably be enraged if something like that ever happened to His. Not that His would ever be Wherrieheaded enough to take drugs on purpose of course. /It must have been horrible feeling, not being able to trust Yours. I, certainly, would be upset if something was wrong with Saraina's Mind. I am gad Selenitas has not yet been touched by any of that filth the Humans took, I hope it never comes around. If it does, I shall burn all of it with my flames!/

The Brownrider's eyebrow rose slightly at her response, although he didn't question it. Well, eh. She really didn't seem the type to allow herself to be pushed around - T'kal approved wholeheartedly of that. It was annoying when someone was completely submissive and offered no opinions - although perhaps that was merely because he'd become used to Leweleth. The brown dragon was certainly in no way submissive - unless there was a bronze involved. He nodded in quiet agreement to her comments about 'pets'; he'd heard the same from those lucky (yes, he was slightly envious sometimes) owners of 'mandyrs and flitters. "Salamandyrs are more - erm, obnoxious - than flitters are as a whole, aren't they? That's what I've heard," he commented. "I think I'd prefer a flitter." The brownrider started slightly at the blue fire lizard's appearance - as if he'd been given a cue, the young Harper thought wryrly as he inclined his head in a solemn half-bow to the fire lizard. "It's a pleasure," he stated quietly. "He seems pretty...normal - by way of personality - to me," he added, glancing curiously at Saraina.
She approved, at any rate, of his exercise scheme - run until he dropped of exhaustion, drink some water, run some more - as far as not giving up went. T'kal doubted that anybody, especially anyone with any Healer roots, would approve of the scheme in its - stability, considering sooner or later he'd probably just drop into a faint, but until that happened, he'd keep running. At least, that was what the Brownrider told himself. Leweleth huffed quietly at the thought, flicking his tail around his haunches, but didn't comment, though a sense of disapproval flicked through their bond; T'kal ignored him, nodding. "That's what I'm hoping," he agreed. He hadn't missed the slight falter at the name she'd mentioned - even the drug's numbing effects hadn't completely dispersed his ability to notice things like that - but aside from a questioning quirk of his eyebrow that might well go ignored, he didn't comment. He was already pleased by what little of the Bluerider's history she had chosen to reveal to him; he didn't need anything else. The Brownrider nodded at her suggestion. "Mm. Yeah, I probably should sign up for that soon...Leth wants to be useful." And so do I. The unspoken words hung in the air. "I'll see what I can do about evening shifts..." he added, almost to himself. Evenings were frankly preferable. With darkness came lack of activity, and with that came the brooding thoughts that T'kal resented.
Leweleth shrugged at Hokth's comment. I would not have thought it either, he pointed out. I suppose he could ride me and stay on, but - we could not between. I wouldn't let him; the coordinates he gave me were bad. Most of the time he didn't come out much - it was - hard. The dragon was bewildered; he shook his head slightly with a snort, nostrils flaring angrily at the mere thought of the drugs touching Selenitas. No. The drugs mustn't come here, he stated firmly, If they do, I'll burn them with you. I'm not letting T'kalmine get hurt that badly again if I can help it. No. He'd sit on the drugs for all eternity if that was what it took.

"So true. I've 'ad the pleasure of bein' around Dash, the Junior Weyrwoman's 'Mandyr, and boy... he didn't shut up, or stop hecklin' my flitters. I prefer Firelizards too, at least they can't talk to ya'." Grinning as Zor trilled in indignation, for he thought it would be better if he could talk like his cousins, Saraina returned to scratching his eyeridges. "Just wait. 'E acts up 'round female Flitters, plus, 'e's just about obsessive compulsive about me." The wiry Blue chirped once more as he shifted his weight on her shirt, swinging his head around to look at the man, the bluerider watched as he eyed him suspiciously. "They're cuter too, but ya' didn't hear that from me. Plus, their much bigger than 'Mandyrs, and I don't think I could 'andle more than one impulsive bond. Hokth already will be annoyin' enough when 'e chooses to Chase. Not particularly 'nthused by the thought of 'im chasin' Greens with female riders." Boy, that was the truth. Saraina liked her strong men, and although she held no grudges against the female kind, they just didn't hold the same attraction for her. She knew it was going to happen, she had even somewhat come to terms with it, but it didn't mean she was looking forward to it at all. "Kae-- er... The Junior Weyrwoman says that 'Mandyrs bond more like Dragon's emotionally, so when they Rise or Chase, the effect is like a Green Flight."
"I've been scheduled for Duty in an 'our's time and Latenight duty tonight. I get to sleep in t'morrow mornin'. Hokth's been getting antsy, but only Faranth knows why." Unhooking her Firelizard from her tunic and placing him into her lap, Saraina continued talking. "The Red Star has been quiet of late. I 'ave a bad feelin', and Hokth is gettin' rather bored. 'E wants to do 'is job, but the Red Star ain't giving 'im 'is chance."
It was almost disgusting to think of a time when a Dragon couldn't trust Their's enough to Between, even if it was no fault of the Dragon, the Human was responsible for their health. Hokth knew that Saraina would never touch anything that had the possibility to do that, he shared her mind and knew her better than even herself, but it did make him worry only slightly. If she did somehow get involved with something like that, he would try and do whatever it took to stop her from continuing it, even if it meant pinning her down under his claws and leaving her there for a while. /It disturbs me, that Dragonriders would use this in the first place. We are paired, mind and soul, to do a single and important duty. To fight the Thread. And we can't do that if we can't Between to free ourselves from the Burning Scores./ "The Traditions have been lost, and not many people feel the teaching songs in their hearts." Glancing down at His when her speech diverted from her conversation, the Blue nodded in response to her intrusion, he had been unaware that she had been listening to his side of the conversation. /Mine is right. Harpers need to speak up and continue spreading the words of our Ancient Kin./ Crossing his wrists, Hokth yawned. /Humans have lost the urge to be Harpers. I believe, we only have one at Selenitas./

The Junior Weyrwoman Impressed a Salamandyr? For some reason, T'kal was torn between amusement and consternation at the idea. Amusement, since most 'mandyrs seemed to thrive on putting their Bondeds in uncomfortable positions - and it couldn't be too great to be thrust into such positions when one was supposed to be dignified - i.e. the Junior Weyrwoman. And then consternation - again for Kaegan. She had to be terribly busy, didn't she? "Was he obnoxious?" the Brownrider queried, amusement winning over anxiety. A slight grin flicked across his lips. "At least most flitters - if they could talk, they'd be a lot nicer than 'mandyrs," he commented wryly, blinking as he realized that the blue flit - Zor - was eyeing him - in what he took to be a suspicious manner. The Brownrider chuckled lightly, shifting as he bowed solemnly to the blue. "Your Bonded is very nice," he informed the flitter solemnly, one brow rising slightly as if waiting for a response.
T'kal's gaze rose back to Saraina's face as she went on, a slightly amused smile tugging at his lip. And it did amuse him, knowing that blues could Bond to women who had no interest whatsoever in other women - same as greens. "How many male Greenriders do we have at Selenitas?" He wrinkled his nose slightly. "Hope I don't discourage you or anything, but I think I've got a better chance of ending up with the opposite sex than you do - thank Faranth," he added devoutly, flicking a playful glance at Leweleth, who huffed lightly. Another slight chuckle escaped the Brownrider at her comment on the 'mandyrs, though he didn't miss the informal title the Bluerider had started to give the Weyrwoman. Was she close to her, then? "All the more reason to prefer flitters," he stated. "If obnoxiousness and endless chatter wasn't enough reason already."
An hour. An hour left before she had to go? T'kal couldn't help feeling sorry - and no surprise, either, considering Saraina was possibly the first person he'd actually held a decent conversation with for much too long - aside, naturally, for his Leth. The Brownrider glanced questioningly at Hokth at the woman's statements, one brow rising in something between amusement and admiration. The blue wanted Threadfall to come? Brave of him - or foolish, though T'kal was more biased towards courage. Leweleth had never wanted or liked Threadfall; the brown had merely accepted it as his duty, and though he'd never been frightened, never ducked out of it - neither had he looked forward to it. "There's only so much time." A faintly sad smile. "Should probably savor what peace we have nowadays."
Leweleth huffed softly, sorrow flickering across his jeweled eyes. I don't think we were planning on fighting Thread, he admitted, his voice dropping low in shame. What were dragons made for, if not Threadfighting? It was as Hokth said - and to be deprived of that - made them little better than a mere wherry. No - lower still than that. At least wherries could be used for food. They were parasites. The brown's head whipped around in surprise to regard Saraina solemnly, and he crooned softly, though he didn't answer her - he probably never would, either. It would help if the Harper Hall was in the South, the brown answered Hokth after a moment. T'kalmine didn't go to Harper Hall; his parents were Harpers that taught him - but he's as good as any, and the brown's voice took on an unwavering pride for His, So now we have two Harpers. Who's the other? he added, now curious.

"Obnoxious? A little bit, but 'E was mainly Obsessive Compulsive over the Weyrwoman. I got bit a few times, because I was a 'meanprettyhead'." In fact, the Mandyr seemed inclined to repeat 'Meanprettyhead no talk to Beautiful' at her, he hadn't been very happy to see she didn't listen to him. "Oh. I wouldn't be so sure. Scipio probably would spit insults left and right, and Zor... I really don't want to know what goes through 'is 'ead." Although she turned her attention to the Blue, his attentions were on the Brownrider, what he could be thinking was lost to her. As far as she knew, the Firelizard could be thinking how tasty T'kal's pinky finger would be, and Sara wouldn't put it past him to be thinking exactly that. Not even the trill he gave in response to the Brownrider betrayed his thoughts.
"Three. An' I've come to accept the statistics, thank you very much. Come to terms with it and all the rest." Snorting slightly as T'kal thanked the Grand Gold, Saraina shook a strand of hair from her face. "Sure, sure. Count your lucky stars. I suppose I was just to gruff for a Green, don't think they'd suit me anyways." The Bluerider preferred the male Dragons over the female ones, though that bias was most likely caused because she was bonded to one, she liked the fact the blues were a little arrogant despite their low status. They were the underdogs of /three/ color types, instead of just two. Regaining her thoughts, she realized T'kal was speaking once more. Flitters? Thats right, she had said something about emotional bonding before. "Exactly. At least ya' can shove off the Lust the Flitter's 'ave."
"Its not like I don't agree with you. Its just not normal. We should be gettin' Threadfall anytime soon, but the Dawn Star just ain't active. Its a bit worrisome, I'm afraid the next fall will be a doozy. 'Specailly since the Queens are populating the Weyr quickly and all. More clutches means threads a'comin'." The Red Star was an ominous presence normally, but now a days, it just wasn't the same. Sure, she liked the peace and all, but other than Games, Rises and Watchduty, there wasn't much to do around the Weyr... or even in Pern. Well, save for joining the War, but she doubted anyone at Selenitas -excluding a few people- wanted to full on enter the War. What they had done in regards to it had always been a forced hand, something done rather unwillingly and always on the defensive. Shifting slightly as Leweleth crooned at her in response to her comments, she flashed him a thumbs up before settling her hand back onto the sand.
/You are worried about Yours?/ Tilting his head at an angle to view the Brown's Human, Hokth continued. /I do not think, you will have to worry. There is always Wing Drills and Flaming Practice to help hone abilities. His mind will become clearer the longer he is here. Rainmine is helping him also, though she might not know it. Flying helps our lungs and makes the air feed our brains, and so will running with Humans. / He had picked that little fact up in passing from a conversation with a Dragon who had a healer as a Rider, the name escaped him though. /I do not remember the name of the Harper, only that there is one somewhere about./ He said, matter of fact-ly.

An un-obnoxious salamandyr. Mm, he'd never heard of that before. Most people were constantly waging war with the little creatures, though some apparently had an inexplicable fondness for them. Shards, their Bondeds didn't even like them sometimes - that clearly said something about their personality, didn't it? T'kal grinned slightly, shaking his head in amused amazement, clicking his tongue slightly. No matter how he thought, he still couldn't get his mind around the fact that a Weyrwoman would want a 'mandyr. Fire lizard, he could see; they were - as a whole, he reminded himself, as Saraina commented on the personalities of her two - more malleable. Perhaps it was an accidental Impression; those seemed to occur quite often. Absently, he glanced at Zor at the trill the blue offered, though it gave little insight to his thoughts - neither approval nor disapproval was indicated.
He couldn't help laughing at the bluerider's comment, his grin crooked as he shrugged. "Maybe you'll get lucky," he stated wryly. He was only aware of one male Greenrider - K'lir - mainly because his Calistoth had been Impressed at Leweleth's Hatching, and the brown had memorized his clutchsiblings and their Bondeds' names to keep the desperate loneliness from completely claiming him. "You approve of the few we have?" he added teasingly. He didn't really expect an answer, considering that it was a rather personal question; it was meant only as a lighthearted taunt.
T'kal, in a flash of something between horror and self-recrimination, realized he'd - forgotten. Forgotten how long it had been since the last Fall. Had Thread fallen while he was away? Around High Reaches Weyr, around them, while they were oblivious to the danger writhing and burrowing? The thought made him feel slightly sick as he glanced at Leweleth, hoping for reassurance. I don't remember. The swift, firm answer was not altogether appeasing, considering the short memory span of dragons, but - the quiet confidence with which it was uttered made T'kal feel immeasurably better. "We'll be ready," he commented softly, leaning against Leweleth's shoulder and pressing his cheek against the large brown's dark, smooth hide. "We'll be ready," he echoed his own words, as if trying to convince himself of the same fact. We will always be ready, Leweleth agreed with a soft croon, his eyes whirling at Saraina. I approve of her, he added. She thinks.
The brown dragon's attention turned back to Hokth; he nodded slightly at his reassurance, though he couldn't repress a slight jealousy. Hokth need never know that terrible, desperate terror, the living nightmare that had controlled the lives of the dragons at High Reaches. He would never know the urges for those repulsive drugs, the urges that made His curl up and isolate himself from the rest of the Weyr to keep himself from doing anything rash, took away concentration and anything but that desperate, desperate need. It was impossible not to worry for His. Perhaps you're right, he allowed, wrapping his tailtip protectively around T'kal's ankles. But my worrying isn't something I can help. It was more a natural reaction than anything else, and Leweleth couldn't repress it. Do you recall the gender? the brown added curiously of the Harper. Perhaps it would do T'kalhis some good to speak to a Harper, too. A Weyrsinger, with a dragon of their own, or merely a Harper assigned to the Weyr?
((We should probably end this soon; it's been going on forever. xD))

"I suppose they're good lookin enough, but I think they're all gay. Not exactly my territory." Rolling her eyes as she tossed a strand of hair out of her face, Saraina crossed her ankles. The fact she was forced to participate in flights, was really the only thing she disliked about being a Bluerider, riding a Green would be to awkward. Sure, she liked sex, but Saraina would rather chose the person than endure waking up next to some unknown person. Well... that was going to happen, but at least Hokth could loose a Chase.
"Thats good. We're gonna need as much 'elp as we can. People are gettin' lazy." It was true, the last drill with a full wing call was a while ago, forcing individual members into practicing on their own with Riders of equal or greater experience. /Mine, we're being called to duty by our predecessors./ Pulling her legs up, the Bluerider rocked up to her feet and patted her pants free of most of the sand. "Well... It seems as though, I must leave ya'. Duty calls, Brownie." She really didn't want to get sand in her leathers, they were a pain to clean already, but sand was evil. "I'll catcha later... Oh, feel free ta' drop by the day b'fore ya' want ta' run."
---
/I believe it was a female, Dragonless. Rainmine hasn't seen her recently though./ Tilting his head to the side, Hokth tapped his tail thoughtfully on the ground.
/Hokth, Duty shift is changing. You're required at the sign in area with Yours./
/Baaah... We'll get there when we get there./ Switching his mind to Saraina and blocking out the Green, Hokth informed her that the shift change was called. /Fare-well Leweleth. We shall meet again soon./ On his feet in a moment, the Blue waited quietly for His to climb on. He wanted to be casually late to duty, just to annoy the Green who was on duty before them.
