Tobby didn't want to seem like he was ignoring either of the females, but he wasn't quite sure how to respond to both of them. He glanced sideways to Nephele to show he'd heard her question but continued to pay attention to Minzy. The boy nodded as she finished, his eyes down on the bottles. "Yeah, I definetely want to try them first." He agreed before frowning as he tried to pick which of his two he wanted to try it on. Melly was his first pick of course, but his little brown seemed like the sort to reject any oil simply because Melly liked it. It would have to be him.
He sighed softly and reached up to gently grab the now squealing firelizard from his shoulder before placing the brown on the counter. "We can try them on him." Tobby said with a grim smile, staring down at the hatchling. Said hatchling was snarling, hissing, spitting, and making a whole assortment of angry noises. Tobby was just glad that his brown was sticking to noise instead of claws. He was blushing in embarassment but finally turned to nod to Nephele. "He only just hatched. I bought an egg at the stall for them just down there." Tobby explained, forcing a smile. He regretted spending the marks.
LoveMineLove should listen. No buy flyer. Melly announced calmly before he yawned and strolled down Tobby's arm to sit on the counter as well. The candidate wasn't really sure what he could do so he just stared helplessly at his evil monster, timidly looking back up to Minzy. "Could I try the forest?" He squeaked, reaching out to gently grab his flit as the still screeching firelizard tried to escape.

"I do like the seabreeze," she responded pleasantly. Such a smell in her weyr, for however long she could get them to last, would be very nice. She giggled at Yaz's offer. She really had no problem giving him a kiss. She'd done worse with men who were considerably more unpleasant. Here came the 'but' - there was a young boy present. "Would a kiss on the cheek do?" She made a vague motion in the direction of the boy to make it clear why she asked.
Mother, sensing the poor boy's unhappiness, hopped over to the boy's shoulder and gently nuzzled his cheek. He made a very soft, comforting peep. Baby was being bad, yes? No fault of Tobby's! While the bronze gave his motherly ministrations to the boy, Nephele smiled sympathetically. "For every loving, wonderful one there's another that takes some getting used to. Since he's still a hatchling you have a bit of a chance to train him and try and get him to mellow out."
Mother hopped off the boy's shoulder to join the brown firelizard and blue mandyr on the table. Before Nephele could stop him, the bronze pecked the brown, much like a mother would scold their child. He should be good and not hurt His! The greenweyrling recalled her pet mentally and shook her head. "Sorry about him. He takes after his name far too much." The bronze had the good grace to look slightly apologetic. It had needed doing though!

"Of course," Minzy said graciously. It looked like the poor lad was having... issues... with his fire-lizard. While she had considerable experience with draconids -- dragons, whers, and fire-lizards alike, though the strange creatures the Selenitas people called 'salamandyrs' were entirely new to her -- her expertise in the training of fire-lizards was neither free nor cheap, in comparison to her expertise in first aid. And she was certainly not here to help boys with animals they probably should not have been buying anyhow. She was here with Yaz to turn a profit for themselves and for the Hall. Here, and many other Gathers like it. She would be glad for the chance to visit Ista on the return voyage, but she was not eager to do all this traveling again.
Yaz gave Nephele a sad look, almost pained. "Ah, circumstances," he sighed dramatically, picking up one of the packs of seabreeze incense and placing it on the table in front of Nephele that served as their counter. "But even a mere kiss on the cheek will be enough to sustain me-- oof!" Minzy had elbowed him sharply in the ribs.
"He's a flair for the poetic," she informed Nephele, rolling her eyes at her brother while picking up the trial bottle of the forest-scent oil. It smelled like what it suggested, musky and earthy with a touch of clean pine. A northern forest more than the tropical forest Southern and Selenitas resided in, but a forest nonetheless. Yaz made a face at his sister's back and turned back to Nephele.
"A kiss on the cheek would do nicely," he said in far less flowerly language, watching as the bronze fire-lizard she carried hopped off to scold the brown fire-lizard hatchling. He wasn't entirely fond of the little creatures, having been bitten by enough of them when dealing with injured riders. It was amazing how protective they could be, and utterly without manners towards healers.
"Here," Minzy said to Tobby, placing the bottle of oil on the table and uncorking it, carefully setting it a little distance from the writhing hatchling. "I'm surprised he's even awake," Minzy added. "Usually they hit torpor -- that's deep sleep -- just after eating when they's young."

The brown froze instantly as he was nipped by the larger firelizard. He turned to stare at the bronze with such obvious hate that Tobby couldn't help but scowl at Mother as well. But no. No. He wasn't mad at the other firelizard, is little creep of a flit was. His hands tightened ever so gently around his monster. "It's okay. He needed it." The firelizard had gone silent, but he was now staring at Mother with such intensity that Tobby felt a chill run down his spine.
"He was asleep earlier." And clearly, he wished that the hatchling still was. "But he woke up again." Tobby felt stupid for stating the obvious, but then again, he already felt stupid just for being there with his monster. Melly crooned softly at his bonded's emotions. The blue didn't want His to feel so sad. Tobby forced a smile and gently scratched his eyeridge before he reached over to grab the tester.
Although the brown twitched as his mindmate applied the oil but offered no protest to the smell. He was so busy staring at Mother that he was totally ignoring them. Like smell, LoveMineLove. Melly chirped, trying to cheer his friend. Tobby nodded, forcing another smile. "I'll take a bottle of this. How much is it?"

Nephele was very much amused by the healer siblings. Yaz in particular was entertaining, making the stop at the healer stall well worth it. The products were great but it was always nicer to be attended by pleasant stallkeepers. She grinned at the exchange between the brother and sister. In the end he settled for a kiss on the cheek and she leaned forward to give him one. She waited for him to present his cheek before pressing a quick kiss against it. She pulled back and winked at him as she fished for the three marks in her pouch.
Mother looked up with relief to hear that the brown's mindmate agreed that it was necessary. The bronze looked back at the brown and shrank back slightly at the stare. Ooh, chilly stare. As the oil was succesfully applied the bronze gave a satisfied flick of his wings and flew back to His' shoulder. Nephele gave him a quick pet as she pulled out the three marks and held them out to the healer. "Here you go, sweetheart." She waited for him to take the marks before she gave Mother the pack of incense. "Back to the weyr with you. Do try and keep those from Diva's sight."
Nephele turned her attention to Tobby as she picked up the two different buttles of oil. She frowned slightly as she realized the boy was likely from the weyr. She had yet to see a salamandyr belonging to a Holder. "Excuse me, but are you from the weyr?" She asked him, checking just to make sure. She wouldn't feel right leaving a young boy alone at a Gather if he was from the weyr. He might not be able to get a ride back to the weyr and the idea of a stranded child...no, just no.

Yaz proffered said cheek and received his payment with a grin, lifting his brow at his sister who diligently ignored him. Lucky for Nephele, he'd shaved just that morning, and had only the barest hint of blond roughness on his cheek. "Thanks, beautiful," he replied, taking Nephele's marks and opening the small chest on the table, placing the marks in their correct locations. There were some smaller marks in there already, of various locales -- clearly this chest had traveled relatively far and had seen many Gathers. He closed it, snicking the latch shut again, and bowed dramatically to the greenrider before turning and heading back to his work.
"They do do that," Minzy said cheerfully to Tobby, not at all minding the stating of the obvious. "The flit oil is a half-mark a bottle," she informed him, recorking the test bottle and settling it back down with the others in the test rack. She picked up a bottle of the forest-scented fire-lizard oil and set it down in front of Tobby as Nephele turned to him. She restrained herself from giving Yaz a wry look. Healers always wanted to save everyone; apparently the girl was quite the same as they.

The boy nodded to Minzy, mumbling under his breath, both ears scarlet. He glanced down once more to his flit and found him still staring at the spot where Mother had been. "Oh you quit that, you creeper." Tobby hissed before he looked back up to the healer and once again nodded. His hand dug into his pocket and he quickly pulled out the half mark needed. "Here." He forced a smile, but it was obvious that he wanted to get out of there. His creeper was embarassing. The candidate glanced downward at his brown, shaking his head. "That's what I'm going to call you. Creeper. Because you're a little creep." He whispered and recieved a sharp pinch of pain in return.
Oh Faranth. Well at least he was done at this stall. He grabbed his bottle of flit oil of the counter and was stepping back into the crowd when the woman's question was asked. "Me?" Tobby asked before he turned back to Nephele. "Yes, I am. I'm a candidate." Despite his embarassment, his words were proud as he told his rank. And why shouldn't they be? He had waited long enough to hold it.

Nephele smiled at the boy's response, though it didn't fully reach her eyes. She was busy thinking about what Emoyan's reaction must have been one of his candidates having a salamandyr. At run times salamandyrs could play havoc with young dragons' emotions since the little creatures affected as much as dragons did. She had never had first hand experience and she never planend to, but the rumours told her enough.
"Is that so? You must be quite the person to be a candidate at such a young age. I wouldn't have had the courage!" She said flatteringly. It was partially true. Part of her fear of standing as a candidate when she'd been at Benden was Impressing and then losing her dragon. When she'd been searched by Selenitas she'd agreed to go willingly because of the weyr's relatively good reputation. She couldn't say she regretted her choice in the end. She had Nuoth and her firelizards thanks to the weyr.
She had yet to meet a candidate who wouldn't want to meet a dragon up close so she offered, "Would you like to meet my dragon? She's quite friendly. I'm sure she'd be pleased to meet you." Nuoth hadn't been doing anything other than lounging on the beach or swimming since Nephele had arrived. Some attention her way would likely be welcome from the green, even if her beast didn't acknowledge it.

"Thankee," Minzy said cheerfully, taking the half-mark from Tobby. "Try feeding 'im again," she added after a moment, but the boy was chatting with the dragonrider woman. Minzy shrugged and went to go label the bottles her brother had filled. They murmured to each other, keeping on the lookout for more company.
((I won't post here again unless comments are directed to the stallkeepers. But feel free to keep chatting :3 ))

Tobby blushed lightly, "It's not really about courage. Both my parents were dragonriders and I was raised and the weyr so it was just kind of the natural choice." He scratched at the back of his neck, holding Creeper close to himself as he smiled up at the rider. "Meet your dragon? Sure! I'd love to!" The candidate instantly brightened. Not even Creeper could put a damper on the excitement of getting to meet a new dragon.
Melly curled up on top of Tobby's head. The tiny blue was glad to see that His was happy again. He drifted off into silent listening as his long tail wrapped around Tobby's ear. Creeper continued to stare at the spot where Mother had sat with such intensity that it would likely give some people chills. Tobby would have to watch this one.

Nephele nearly frowned thoughtfully. If not for the fact that she might worry the boy she would have. Weyrborn huh? That certainly explained his interested in her dragon. She smiled andwaved her hand in the direction of the beach. "She's lounging on the beach right now," she told him. She started towards where her green waited curiously to see just who Hers was bringing for her to meet.
By that time Nuoth was used to Hers trying to make her friends. The girl had decided early on that her green had taken on her less charming trait of being somewhat reclusive. Nephele wanted everyone to see how great her dragon was, but then again, didn't every rider? It wasn't like she had no friends so she wasn't being entirely hypocritical in trying to get Nuoth to be more social. "As a weyrborn lad you probably know a lot of dragons." It was part question, part observation.
